ABOUT US

Our work is based on constant research and experimentation through all phases of the project. We consider architecture as the process that does not end with the realization/construction, but continues throughout the life of the facility and interacting with users. That’s why we focus on relationships with clients and users of space, so the social dimension of architecture plays an important role in our work. Our approach to architecture is workshop-like, each project is a special challenge, and the ultimate goal is providing the innovative and unique solutions that deviate from the standard forms and conventional designs. We do not shy away from the constraints; we transform them into a design tool! The specificity of our study is a research, design and presentation of space through architectural scale models, which allow easier understanding of space and defining the strategy work. In addition to research models, which are an integral part of the design process, we also create scale models of existing projects or completed structures in order of presentation. We approach each scale model with care, thoroughly analyzing the needs and purposes of the model, which further defines its production technique, the degree of detail, size and so on. In our work we are constantly exploring different techniques through experimentation with form and using different materials. Activities of our studio are extended by participation in workshops, exhibitions, festivals, and other events in the field of architecture and design. Studio is founded by Dejan Mitov, Jelena Mitov and Krsto Radovanovic in 2009, while studying at the Faculty of Technical Sciences in Novi Sad. tarkett academy TYPE / reanimation of an existing facility into an exhibition

and education center YEAR / 2014. CLIENT / Tarkett d.o.o. PLACE / Backa Palanka, Serbia AREA / 1000m2 STATUS / completed AUTHORS / Dejan Mitov, Jelena Mitov, Krsto Radovanović, in cooperation with Sigma Inženjering d.o.o PHOTOS / Relja Ivanić Tarkett Academy is an exhibition and educational space in the production complex Tarkett in Backa Palanka and was developed as revitalization of an old industrial building. The mission of the Academy is developing and improvement of technique of Tarkett flooring as well as improving knowledge of Tarkett products. This area provides clients, architects and designers with support and assistance in finding the best solution for flooring in a variety of projects, not only in its content and equipment, but also the way the entire facility was established.

The main challenge in designing the Academy was the introduction of new features into an existing industrial building space. The aim was to preserve the industrial character of the building, and to fit the new functions into the existing space with a series of spatial interventions. External architecture is dominated by membrane made of perforated metal sheet which, in combination with large glazed surfaces, creates dynamic effects of shifting of light and shadow. In contrast to the reduced exterior, the interior is much more complex and is divided into two main parts: the showroom and the academy. The first area is an open, fluid space (“space within a space”) with a number of smaller units for displaying products and meeting with clients. This space is designed without strict physical barriers and spatial areas are highlighted as “islands” in the floor, which also show the design options of floor covering. The second part is more closed and it consists of a conference room, office space and training boxes for floor installers. Such concept of space is adjusted to a complex program, with a high level of flexibility and transformability.

The main challenge in designing this space was re-appropriation of one function into another. Originally designed as a tailor’s workshop, the space underwent functional changes after the arrival of new investors, and was converted into an office. Special attention in designing the interior is dedicated to keeping and maintaining the existing values, such as natural lighting. Also, the integrity of the main room was has been retained, with the addition of glass partitions, which makes the physical and acoustic barrier, without distortion of spatial continuity.

Architecture, Novi Sad 2014

Young artists, architects or designers need a multi-purpose space that will be appropriate to live and work. These requirements were a major design challenge in designing the apartment for two architects housed in the old part of Novi Sad, in the area Podbare. The building dates from the first half of the 20th century, as evidenced by its internal and external architecture. The interior of apartment contains a motif of “apartment in the apartment where the entrance space is organized as a studio for work, while the other part is designed as a room apartment with all necessary elements for life. The biggest challenge was to create two separate spaces in order to avoid the interference of functions, while not disturbing the existing geometry of the apartment.

International Building Trade Fair in Belgrade, 2013. AWARD / honourable mention STATUS / conceptual design AUTHORS / Dejan Mitov, Jelena Mitov, Krsto Radovanović, Slobodan Arsenović

The concept of the exhibition pavilion (stand) is based on the Knauf motto: “from the family business to the family of businesses.” The geometry of the building is in the shape of the house as a symbol of a family and gathering under the same roof. A stand occupies the central part, which is also both the exhibition space and a table for the guests, so that all the visitors are gathered around the same table thereby becoming part of the Knauf family.

TYPE / competition entry, conceptual design YEAR / 2011. COMPETITION / student competition “Bajkiraj se ovde!”

(“Bike here!”), organized by RestArt Team, Novi Sad STATUS / 2nd prize AUTHORS / Dejan Mitov, Krsto Radovanović

----------------------------------------------------“A bicycle shed is a building; Lincoln Cathedral is a piece of architecture.” Nikolaus Pevsner Was the great art historian right? Maybe he was, but this understanding has led to the fact that our cities are flooded with buildings, and not architectural works. All around us we see parking lots, garages, sheds, traffic junctions and flyovers without any architectural quality, maybe exactly because someone said that they do not need to possess an architectural quality. However, our goal is to refute this argument. Why not give a bicycle shed another function, as a area for sitting, intermission or socializing? Taking into account that by architecture we can consider all facilities designed for residing and imporoving the comfort of city life - we breathed a new life into the bicycle shed, an architectural life.

RESEARCH & ACADEMIC WORK

architectural studio

--------------------------------------------------TYPE / interior design, semester work YEAR / 2010. STATUS / conceptual design AUTHOR / Jelena Mitov

---------------------------------------------------

The space in which an architect creates is equally important to the projects he or she designes. It must contain a large amount of light as well as act as a stimulus for those that reside within. The presented architectural studio is located in the office building that includes a shared kitchen and toilet facilities, which is the reason why they are not included in the interior project. Interior space is organized as a half gallery due to its hight; the ground floor is intended for the “guests” while the upstairs is organized as employees’ space. Meeting room and exhibition space which provide insight into studio activities through the large glass facade, are located on the ground floor.

education center

-----------------------------------------------------

TYPE / architectural study YEAR / 2011. STATUS / conceptual design AUTHOR / Krsto Radovanović DESCRIPTION / graduate - Bachelor study at the Department

of Architecture and Urban Planning, Faculty of Technical Sciences in Novi Sad, course “The principles of sustainable development in the architectural design”, mentor Prof. Dr. Jelena Atanacković-Jelicic

----------------------------------------------------In addition to being a place for learning and development of an individual, the education center also represents a place of integration into a society; therefore, it is needed to redefine the traditional concept of education and the conception of the facility in accordance with the modern understanding of the term and the concept of lifelong learning. Instead of the closed facility (“boxes”) which is divided into different rooms, an “open” structure is proposed in which the traditional division of space by walls is minimal. In this way we obtain a current area in which a variety of functions in the form of “islands” are placed. Such an area enables a high level of social interaction where, instead of separation, cohesion and unity are being promoted.

Formation of the roof garden as a public space is justified from an economic point of view, but it is far more important in terms of the social aspect. Such a move creates a natural landscape in an urban environment which enables contact between the human and the environment as one of preconditions to healthy, eco-conscious community.

garden segment with > roof housing commune - “hill”

NS2051

NS2051 project is a utopian vision of Novi Sad at 21 century, partly based on the principles of Ebenezer Howard’s garden city. Instead of continuous expansion of urban fabric, it is proposed to divide the city into urban grains - the units with a certain degree of autonomy, which are interconnected. Each of these grains is divided into smaller sub-units - sustainable communities, and each individual community is composed of multifunctional center, made up of an education center, sports complex, spiritual center and park areas.

NS Hills

NS Hills is a transformation project of the sports and business Center “Vojvodina” in Novi Sad and surrounding buildings (stadium, tennis courts, commercial facilities) into a sports and educational complex with park areas, as a center or sustainable communities.

Education Center

The project foresees the increase of density by building large residential buildings (housing commune) as special sustainable communities. For economic feasibility, the entire urban segment is covered with the roof structure with a green surface, which “compensates” occupied urban area. One part of the complex is an education center (framed), as the center of the community.

in collaboration with Department of Architecture, Faculty of Technical Sciences, Novi Sad and Municipality of Dimitrovgrad EXHIBITIONS / Mikser festival, Belgrade (2011); “Representation of Architecture” exhibition, Museum of Contemporary Art of Vojvodina, Novi Sad (2011)

The project Klupa_1000cm (Bench_1000cm) was developed as part of research on the impact of architectural installations, such as micro-urban interventions in the public space and public space revival by creating benchmarks as points of socialization. It is an experimental spatial installation / street furniture primarily intended for open public spaces as a utilitarian object, but also as a specific spatial benchmark that visually dominates the space and calls for gathering. Form of the object is achieved by computer modeling which is then translated into a physical form. The structure is made of wooden slats, it is interchangeably full and empty which, combined with internal lighting, provides interesting light effects. Length of the structure is 10m, but it is possible to expand it unlimitedly or even shorten it in accordance with the requirements and size of the space.

plane_bench TYPE / experimental spatial installation/pavilion YEAR / 2012. STATUS / conceptual design AUTHORS / Dejan Mitov, Jelena Mitov, Krsto Radovanović,

Slobodan Arsenović

The aim of the project Plane_bench is to revitalize an urban quare in Novi Sad by “installing” a new structure into public space. Proposed solution is based on the research of people’s needs, and transforms the empty square into a place where people can stay, and not only to pass.

--------------------------------------------------------Mamutfest is manifestation held in Kikinda every year in honor of the mammoth named Kika, one of the best preserved remains of a mammoth, giant prehistoric animals that lived on European area approximately 500 000 years ago. The skeleton was found in 1996 in Kikinda and today represents a unique tourist attraction. The festival is dedicated to the celebration of Kika’s birthdays, and includes a series of entertaining and attractive programs intended for the youngest population. Kika_klupa is a project created for the festival and set up in the courtyard of the National Museum of Kikinda. More information about Kika can be found at the official website: http:/www.kika-mamut.com/.

deCODE TYPE / experimental furniture YEAR / 2010. STATUS / completed AUTHORS / Dejan Mitov, Jelena Mitov, Krsto Radovanović

deCODE is an experimental piece of furniture, between spatial installation and utilitarian object. By redefining the traditional concept of the bench and giving it new layers of meaning, the resulting spatial structure in addition to physical dimensions also gets ambient, intangible value, enlivens the space and creates it, gives it a visual identity and character.

-------------------------------------------Design is based on a process, constantly changing and moving, and less on the final shape, so the resulting form is to a certain extent incomplete and changeable. With different layouts of the elements and changing the length of the structure, it is possible to obtain different forms, applicable to different areas.
