Other School Initiatives

Say Yes to Languages

We have again benefited this year from the opportunity to partake in the Modern Foreign Language initiative. Over an eight week period our third to sixth class girls learned Spanish from Ms. Aisling Cardenas. Building from the foundations gained last year the classes extended their vocabulary and phrases, played games that encouraged them to speak the language. Spanish language learning aids with improved performance in other subjects such as mathematics and reading comprehension. We hope this will help foster a love for language and future learnings. The program intends to assist in nurturing a love for language learning while broadening our children’s view on the world.

Eason’s Spelling Bee

In January, our 5th and 6th Class girls were invited to participate in our first Eason’s Spelling Bee, which was an excellent opportunity for pupils to showcase their language skills and progress in spelling. Congratulations to all the girls brave enough to put themselves forward; we look forward to making this opportunity a regular fixture on our school calendar.

The spelling test is an excellent opportunity for pupils to showcase their language skills and progress in spelling; designed to provide a comprehensive assessment of spelling ability over a wide range of words.

Integrated into our school calendar this initiative will offer a positive and valuable experience for the girls. As ever an opportunity to demonstrate growth, focus on the value of spelling in a supportive learning environment.

In October we had a super visit from Paula who works with the Irish Peatland Conservation Council. Paula completed a series of Energy Workshops with our Infant classes and Bogland Workshops with our 6 th class pupils. The sessions were super fun and interactive with lots learnt along the way!

Trocaire Gamechangers

In December we had a visit from Niall from Trocaire who talked to our 6th class pupils about the Gamechangers programme. Gamechangers encourages young people to encourage global justice by creating either board, card or digital games.
