Handwriting Heroes

In February we launched our first ‘Handwriting Heroes’ competition throughout the whole school. Over four weeks, each child transcribed a poem/ passage into their handwriting copies; the themes of the pieces reflected Friendship week, Kindness week and Seachtain na Gaeilge. Within each class ‘Handwriting Hero’ awards and ‘Most Improved’ awards were presented.

There was also an overall ‘Handwriting Hero’ award in the junior classes, Infants to First, and senior classes, Second to Sixth. Congratulation to Zoe Tong, our Junior winner, and Keziah Leong, our senior winner; whose names have been engraved on our perpetual shield.

All the children really enjoyed this initiative and the focus it brought to the value of written presentation, which improved greatly. We look forward to returning to this competition again next year; it will be fully integrated into our school calendar.
