WELCOME

We are delighted to share the latest news from the School of Nursing. In this issue, we highlight our new faculty and staff, celebrate the accomplishments of our students, faculty, and alumni, and proudly announce the recent endorsement of our Simulation Program by the International Nursing Association of Clinical Simulation and Learning (INACSL)

About Me: Balancing work and life with other aspects of my life, such as spending time with family, gardening, reading, and crafting, is a top priority for me In addition to these personal activities, I am also active in my professional nursing organization, where I contribute to various initiatives and volunteer for communities in need. Giving back to others is an important part of who I am, and I find that it helps me stay grounded and connected to the broader world around me.

About Me: I married my husband, Simon, in 2022 We have a pet cat named Peach! We love to travel together Our favorite spots so far have been Tokyo, London, and Costa Rica! We attend church at First Baptist Arnold and enjoy serving there

About Me: I am a husband to my beautiful wife and a father to 4 amazing children I love to travel domestically and see the beauty of this country I also love to eat and enjoy trying new restaurants I'm trying to become more of a handyman around my house, but I often end up causing more damage than what I'm trying to fix

About Me: I am newly married! I live in Washington, MO, with my husband, Joe, and our Goldendoodle, Penny My husband and I love to bring Penny on rides around town, go out to eat, and spend time with family and friends We also both volunteer at the Washington Fair every year

Simulation Program Achieves INACSL Endorsement!

The Simulation Program has achieved the International Nursing Association of Clinical Simulation and Learning (INACSL) Endorsement This designation signifies a commitment to pursue and sustain excellence in the Core Four Standards of Best Practice in Simulation: Pre-briefing, Facilitation, Professional Integrity, and Debriefing

Since joining our School of Nursing faculty team in January 2022, Dr Bryanna Scherer has worked tirelessly with her team to elevate our simulation program to these standards. Her hard work has paid off through this designation of excellence!

ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF NURSING

Dr Bryanna Scherer exemplifies excellence in all her endeavors Since beginning her full-time role at the MBU School of Nursing, she has achieved certification in Healthcare Simulation Education (CHSE), completed a doctoral degree in higher education leadership, and applied for and earned the INACSL endorsement of the simulation program at theSchoolofNursing Dr Schererhasartfullyincludedconceptsofcivility,DEI,andjustculture throughoutthesimulatedexperiencestoprepareourstudentsforthetransitiontopractice

Paul Plohr

(BSN ‘21)

Lives in Cheyenne, Wyoming, and is working as an adjunct professor at Laramie County Community College. Paul also works PRN at LifeCare Centers of America and is pursuing a DNP with a rural mental health focus at the University of Wyoming.

Robert Finley (FNP)

Ansley Little

(BSN ‘20)

Is working as an Interim Supervisor in Oncology, where her team won the Daisy Award in April 2024 She has served on two mission trips to Greece (October ‘23 and January ‘24) and is pursuing a DNP in Strategic Planning at Spring Arbor University, expected completion in May of 2025

Becca Starrett

Is working on Labor and Delivery at Barnes Jewish Hospital (BSN ’21, BA-BIOLOGY ‘19)

Luke Little

Has achieved certification in CEN & TNCC He has taught CPR/Trauma/First Aid/Psych First Aid courses abroad in Athens, Greece twice in the past year Luke is finishing his DNP-FNP at UMSL, where he is researching decision aids in primary care hypertension (BSN ’22)

Achieved certifications in ACLS & PALS, is working in the Emergency Deparment and pursuing an MSN in Education at MBU

Chanel Barcom (nee Thorpe)

(BSN ’19, BA-BIOLOGY ‘16)

Achieved certification as a Stop the Bleed Certified Instructor, works at Affton High School as a School Nurse, serves as the District Coordinator for Affton School District, is the head coach of the girls' varsity soccer team, and is a semi-pro soccer player

Samantha Joy Fisher (nee Snellen)

Has achieved ONS/ONCC certification and a certificate in Biotherapy She works at St Luke’s Cancer Institute in KCMO as a Gynecologic Oncology Nurse Clinician (BSN '22)

Lexis Garner

Has achieved certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner- Board Certified and recently accepted a position as an NP at Total Access Urgent Care (BSN ‘20, MSN ’23)

Sydney Walker

(BSN '21)

Is attending the Nurse Anesthesia Program at Millikin University with plans to graduate in 2026 as a CRNA.

Has a new position in the PCU at Our Lady of Lourdes Heart Hospital in Lafayette, LA
