CAR PARK WILL BE REPLACED
Amulti-storey car park in Wolverhampton city centre is to be demolished to make way for new housing development.
Plans for 145 new flats to replace the former Beatties car park and ground floor Gorgeous nightclub in Skinner Street were given the go-ahead by city council planners last year
Planning approval had previously been granted in 2021 to transform the landmark department storebuilding in Victoria Street into an apartment complex consisting of morethan 300 luxury flats.
The car park site at the junction with School Street is now set to be redeveloped into residential apartments, with the nightclub to be relocated.
London-based SSYS Beatties
Ltd, which was formed in 2019, plan to add acar parking basement with acommercial ground floor and six full floors of between 19 and 21 flats per floor
The seventh and eighth residential floors will have shared amenity space.
Nearly all the flats will have at least one balcony and all of them will have access to the communal open space.
The nightclub will be replaced by commercial floor space and relocated to adifferent site within the Beatties’ estate
The iconic store, which had been in the city since 1877, closed in 2020 and it was later sold offby then owners Frasers Group for £3 million.
Wolverhampton Council signed offonproposals for 306 apartments within the former store and the car park.
