MOUNT RESIDENTS PAUSE TO HONOUR THE FALLEN

A small gathering of veterans and Mount Morgan Citizens gathered at ANZAC Park for the Remembrance Day Service organised by the Mount Morgan RSL Sub Branch. On the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month,

a minute’s silence is observed and dedicated to those who died fighting in the First World War. This conflict had mobilised over 70 million people and left between nine and 13 million dead. The first commemoration was held in

1919 and after World War Two the Australian Government agreed to the United Kingdom’s proposal to change the name from Armistice Day to Remembrance Day and the loss of Australian lives from all wars is commemorated.
