Ourprimarytaskaseducatorsandadultsisto createaworldinwhichourstudents,familiesandall ofusarecanbeourtrueselves. Aworldinwhich peoplearenotjudgedorpersecutedforthecolorof theirskin,thelanguagetheyspeak,whotheylove, theircountryoforigin,theircountryofchoiceortheir expressionoftheirhumanity. Aworldinwhichwe canallliveauthentically.
AsIthinkofthisMasterPlanandtheMasterPlan InstructionalInstitute,Iinviteyoutokeepclosethe contextandrealitiesofteachingandlearningforour studentsandfamilies. Atthecenterofthisworkis theunderstandingandapplicationof intersectionality.Intersectionalitycreatesaspacefor allofustosee,listenandunderstandourcomplex anduniquehistories,experiencesandlives Itgives usalanguageandlenstolistentoeachothermore intently,seeeachotherwithcompassionateand intellectualcuriosity,andtouchandbreatheinthe placeswherewebothconnectanddon’tconnect
Asacounternarrativetothesetimes,letususethis weekandacademicyeartotogetherimagineand takedailyactiontowardcreatingaworldinwhichwe canallexpressandbeseeninourfullesthumanity. Personally,whatthatlookslikeformeisdaily breathinginandgettingclosetothepainandfear formytranschildwhoisunderattackandbeing erased. IbreatheouttheloveandprideIhavefor themandforthiscontextinwhichIsharemystory. Iaskyou:Whoisyourmostauthenticself?Howwill youtakedailyactiontowardcreatingthisworld?
Inthisworldlovewins. Lovewins,overandover again.Itissomucheasiertoleadandwalkwith love. Letmeexplain. Whenweleadandwalkwith loveourowntraumas,painsandfearsarehealed. Loveisnoteasypreciselybecauseitcreatesaspace forustobegintohealandtoworkonourselves. Therearepeoplewhofearloveandhealing. These peopleleadandwalkwithanger,hateandbullying. Whenwewalkinloveandcourageouslyworktoheal ourselvesandsupportothers,thehatemongers becomeevensmaller.
Let’smakejustice,loveandhealingbig,verybig. Let’screateaworldwherejustice,loveandhealing areatthecenter. Whatwouldthatworldlooklike undertheseconditions?
