A Great Place to Be!

The upside to this idea is that moves are already taking action, and it is almost ready to open. Painting is being done, and items to make it a “great place to be” are being bought and put in. So many people have contributed to creating this space, and a few of us have taken it in almost as their child, even though finding time to do the things we want during school is challenging. Right now a group of students involved in cornerstone are working very hard to make this dream a reality. Back to the idea behind the store, everyone love snacks and who doesn’t like shopping? What if our school had a place to relax in a cool place, with a TV, coffee, snacks and apparel to browse through? With donations and past fundraisers they have purchased many things for the store already as I said before, one of the main things they think is needed to give the school store a comfortable and inviting atmosphere is a couch. As of now there are plenty of clothing items to be bought, and even a Keurig. Hopefully we will have multiple food items to be chosen from so that there is variety during different times of the day. Eventually the plan is to have the school store open during lunch and guided study halls, in the mornings on Thursday late start days and during different sporting events. We would like to have the video production class stream the games on YouTube and access that with the television and have it playing while people come in during the game for food and apparel to cheer on players we will sell hats, water bottles, and shirts that can be personalized with the help of our vinyl printer and the art classes. As all of these fun things are going on for the student body, the store will be making a profit. Because of everyone’s contributions and purchases, the store will have more resources to have bigger and better things. The dream behind these two facilities is that students will use them to their full potential and get everything out of it that is meant to. We have been blessed with the opportunity to better our school, we have been given funding and a pretty creative administration that works with wat we want. If we put our minds to it we can do amazing things with this school and help generations to come. While sadly I am a senior, I don’t get the privilege of experiencing the school store to the same level as other students, I hope that the legacy of it goes on. This is where the school is at, at the moment. We’re painting and working on getting everything we want.

By: By: Faith De Jager 1. It’s our motto, and yeah it could be a worse place but it’s not exactly brimming with excitement. It’s often times boring and bland. “A great place to learn,” it’s plastered all over the walls. Learning is valuable; of course, it makes people better and creates jobs and such for the future, but how are students supposed to get the full experience from a banner? As of now, the school has the library and libraries are meant to be quiet, but Reeds Spring didn’t follow that trend. Often times, students go to the library to play video games or socialize with their friends. The bean bags and comfortable couches make it an even better place to hang out, but makes it harder for students who want a little more peace and quiet to work. What if we could create a space that makes learning and having the right environment for kids who want to get their work done? I know that many ideas are thought of every day but it’s very hard to stick to them. So much talk happens about what we need or want, but it never gets done. Reeds Spring has so many opportunities to take action and create things because of the amount of kids involved and the resources that could be brought in. For me specifically, and people I have worked with, we want to create spaces that could better our education and experience at this school. So as I was saying, one of those spaces would be a work room. There are a couple rooms in the school that are not in use and so of course those would be the area we would bring in the items that will make a work room amazing. Some ideas that have been made were to create cubicles if you will; individual areas with comfort and no noise. Comfy chairs or bean bags could be brought in for seating, and the separation would make it easier to get work done or just have some time to yourself, some students may bring their own book or headphones. I know there are people out there who don’t like the aspect of high school and all the noise, so this place could be almost as a mini getaway from everything. Now, it’s still high school, and things get abused, so the idea to keep that from happening with this space would be to have rules. Unlike the library, you cannot go every day for long periods of time. People can earn two passes a week that allow them to use the room for a 15 minute period. If the students get their grades up, they may be rewarded with more passes from a teacher. I really do think that this could help the school out in a big way, especially with the students who may not fit in as well. Aside from an area where kids can go for personal use, we also need a room that can be used for strictly recreational purposes. Somewhere that has everything from food, to a sitting area, to school merchandise. Even when given freedom during guided study hall for having good grades, things are limited. There is the library that it mostly used for sitting, and then the Wolf ’s Den which is used for coffee and brownies, but as I said before, the school store would have everything.

New Year, New Stress: Band and Choir News

By: Alyssa Heard When Choir starts at the beginning of the year we are usually refreshing our minds on sight reading and choir technique and towards the end of the first month we start practicing for honor choir and our fall concert so it isn’t so stressful coming back, especially since the before years freshman are just coming in and starting to settle with having boys in the choir. After everything is sorted and we’re towards the middle of the year it still isn’t all that stressful the only thing we worry about is the Christmas concert that we host with the band. When we come back from break that is when all the stress comes in because we have large ensemble, solo, small ensemble, and the spring concert to worry about. With Solo and Ensemble coming for the individual groups and the large ensemble us people here in choir are trying to sort out everything like practices after school what days we can practice, what days we can use the accompanist, what time to practice. Especially since our beloved choir director Mrs. Kerri Chafin is carrying a child and won’t be able to direct the choir for State Large Ensemble. We are all very stressed about contest this year with wanting all of us to get ones this year. It is hard to keep up with classwork and after-school extracurriculars. I know how it feels to be under a lot of stress with everything going on. It seems to me that every year we add more and more stress because when you start as a freshman most of the time you make sure to join as little as you can to make sure that you’re not overworked. But when you get into your junior year you’re thinking about colleges and the requirements so you try to add as many extracurriculars as you can. For the people in choir that only do the large ensemble choir might not be added stress for them but the people doing large ensemble and a solo or small ensemble or maybe even three (Large ensemble, Solo, Small ensemble) it is a ton more stressful because of the after-school and during-school practices. With only one day a week to work with Mrs. Chafin you need to have practiced with your group without her. Added on the solo and small ensemble people have to have their music memorized by the end of this month (January). If choir weren’t something I loved and wanted to do I probably wouldn’t be the greatest person. Choir is stressful and hard work but that’s what makes it so great. Choir isn’t a blow off class you take when you need a fine arts it is a hard working group of students coming together to sing beautiful music for our parents and community it is my favorite class to attend and I even go and hang out there in my free time during school. It is fun and beautiful when everything comes together. I wouldn’t choose anything over choir. To go along with the New Year our band program adds

a lot of things to their tray of groups. For example they add Winter Guard, Winter Drumline, and Solo/ensemble. Our band program is really active towards the end of the year. The band likes to outnumber choir with how many extracurriculars they add to their program. The band is a bunch of overachievers but they are good at that. I would like to talk about each of these groups separately. Winter Guard is like Color guard except it is inside and you don’t have a band playing the music. Winter Guard is usually about 10 people and up. The theme for the group is diversity and the song they will be performing too is True Colors the Justin Timberlake arrangement. The theme is a powerful message not just a song we do our guard work too. The guard does a lot of things in their show including; Dancing, Flag work, and Rifle work. The guard is hard at work getting all that they can get done before their first competition which is January 20th. They would love to be supported by our school. Winter Drumline is as it says in the name a Drumline. It consists of just the marching bands percussionists. Their theme this year is haunted. For winter drumline they perform music without using horns and the Battery (tenor drummer, snares, and bass drummers) has charts that they move to on the tarp while playing. Winter Drumline is winter guard in a sense only with percussion. They are a great line of kids with a great dream that all of them share. Solo/Ensemble is essentially a competition between the schools in our district to see what schools get to move on to state. In order for the person to move onto state they have to get a 1 rating (Excellent) from the judge. State is the same as districts the only thing that changes is the judges get a little tougher with their reviews. It’s way harder to get a 1 at state than at districts. Getting a one at state is a really high bar and if you get it you should be very proud in yourself for succeeding so well. In conclusion, the band and choir people are hard at work getting ready for all of the things that are happening. They are stressed but in the end they know that it was all worth to hold those medals in their hands. They take the stress that they put on themselves and just excel with it. They always know that it is okay to be stressed but they make sure it doesn’t ruin the fun of everything. The band is succeeding in showing people that even while they have all these things to worry about you need to stay positive. They are doing great with everything this is the best year to have everything going. Support the band in all they do because they do it well.

Academic Team

What teams would you like us to face at future tournaments? We haven’t played a district team yet like Hollister, Monett or Cassville.

By: Hunter Raymond With a new year beginning the Reeds Spring Academ-

ic team is looking forward to its schedule picking up throughout the second half of this year.

How do you feel about the team’s strength heading into the bulk of the season?

With a fresh start to the second semester, the academic team returns to practice ready to continue winning at the tournaments leading to COC and to districts. December saw one tournament at Branson where the Varsity A team ended with two wins and two losses, Varsity B ended with one win and three losses and the Junior varsity ended with one win and three losses.

Team looks good. Several players have got a lot of playing time and we are really trending upward. -The Reeds Spring academic team looks to take their season to the next level as we enter the busiest part of the season. They look to improve on the past tournaments and will continue to improve leading up to the COC tournament and the District tournament.

The top scorers for Reeds Spring were: Justin Bible with 18 points Marshall Magellas with 17 points

The team looks forward to the rest of the season. The next meet takes place on January 18th at Webb City.

And jack stone with 14 points

The team was scheduled to travel to Webb City on January 8th, but due to hazardous weather the tournament was canceled and may be rescheduled for a later date. The tournament was originally rescheduled and took place on January 18th, however the Reeds spring team missed it due to school cancellation because of poor road conditions after a winter storm hit.

If you have any questions do not hesitate to contact coach Scego at his email Contact email: tscego@wolves.k12.mo.us. The schedule is also provided below: 2017-18 Tentative Scholar Bowl Tournament Schedule 10/26/17-Republic Halloween Tourney (Costume & Deliciousness)

I caught up with Coach Scego and asked him some questions about the team.

11/16/17- Buffalo Tourney (2:30 depart) 12/5/17-Branson Tourney (3:45 depart)

How are you feeling about the team at this point in the season? We are doing pretty well. JV has been able to play some Varsity games which bodes well for the future.

1/11/18-Webb City Tourney (2:00 depart) (Cancelled) 2/1/18-Carthage Tourney (2:00 depart)

We keep staying consistent and we will have a chance at districts.

2/15/18-Nixa Tourney (3:30 depart) 2/22/18-Logan/Rogersville Paper Tourney (2:30 depart)

What do you look to improve during practices?

3/1/18- Reeds Spring

Need to stay focused during practice. It’s easy to not take it seriously, but it shows in tournaments how good we are when we take practices seriously.

3/22/18-Branson 9th/10th Tourney (3:45 depart) 4/5/18—COC—Small @ Buffalo (2:30 depart) 4/14/18 - Districts @ Reeds Spring

The Way We Think

I am often given the answer “On the ACT” if we are going to be learning these things there has to be a reason for it and we should be encouraged to ask more questions because you can’t fully wrap your head around things you don’t completely comprehend. Students shouldn’t be afraid to ask questions that could expand their thinking and improve how efficient they are when getting work done.

By: Jewell Dover

How do you become a better journalist, photographer, lawyer, or even doctor? The answer is the same for each. No matter what you want to do with your life there is one class you can take that will inevitably prove useful. That class is philosophy. Now this class isn’t going to offer lessons in surgery or grammar. It probably won’t better your knowledge of American laws but it will undoubtedly help your reasoning skills. What do you want to do with your life? What do you want to be when you grow up? In our educations systems we are often drawn to trendy knowledge and led to get fad degrees that will later be useless. Philosophy never goes out of style and can help you with whatever direction you choose to go with your life. As technology evolves, many professions are being eliminated because a person is no longer needed for it or because a machine is making the job load lighter so not as many people are necessary in that field. So no matter where you want to go in life and what you want to do, crucial thinking will always be useful so consider philosophy if you want an upper hand in anything.

In conclusion, philosophy is a very important aspect of life and should get more attention in the school. The funding for this class should increase and the distribution of resources should be the same for all realms of education. When wanting to get better at anything you should first improve the way you think and then later pursue a more detailed plan in your specific career path.

Philosophy teaches epistemology which is the theory of knowledge. It’s important to think about the things you are told and that you are able to form your own opinions and thoughts based off of what you have been told is true because many times you will come to learn that the things so many people hold as facts can often be incorrect and if you are assessing everything you see and learn with the mind of a philosopher then you can find your own truths. Philosophy encourages creativity as it encourages deeper thinking which is something that is being taught and stolen out of students their whole lives as math and science is pushed down their throats and as they are discouraged from asking questions that a teacher might not know the answer to. School funding is being taken from the arts programs more and more each year. When asked how an algorithm can be applied in a real world setting to benefit me

Wolves New Year’s Resolutions By: Kayla Buckner

Starting a new year is always fun, but making a resolution to start the year off right is even better! I asked our fellow wolves what their New Year’s resolutions are and here is what I got! Things to do differently in 2018 By: Lily Skidmore

it the life you want to live.” – Mae Jemison REMOVE YOURSELF FROM HARMFUL RELATIONSHIPS- This is so, so important. Quit letting people walk all over you and hurt your heart. Your heart and feelings should be cherished and if you’re with someone who doesn’t understand this then drop them. If you have a friend who is always messing up and hurting you, drop them. This is YOUR year to be a better you and these people are only going to drag you down. It’s going to hurt your heart and it will not be easy, but it’s better for your heart to hurt for a little bit then to be hurt constantly because of the people you’re around. “One of the most courageous decisions you’ll ever make is to finally let go of what is hurting your heart and soul.” – Brigitte Nicole GO TO CHURCH MORE- If you keep looking around at your life and you don’t understand why you’re still so unhappy, and why things never go your way. It is probably because you aren’t going God’s way and as soon as you realize that, the sooner your life will change for the better. Not only will going to church help you religiously it will help you spiritly. Nobody can deny the overwhelming sense of peace and calming when you leave your church after a good service. It’s the easiest way to change your life, pray and make sure God is a part of your 2018 and see how drastically your life changes for the better. “Do your best and let God do the rest” – Ben Carson CHECK YOUR MENTAL HEALTH- This is honestly one of the most important things you can do. Quit ignoring how you’re feeling and pushing it aside as if it’s nothing. It is everything. Your mental health is what is keeping you moving, give yourself days to just relax and recuperate. Take time to remind yourself of your worth and focus on the good you do instead of the bad. Start volunteering, giving to others will make yourself feel good, and accomplished. Lastly get help when you know you need it! It isn’t embarrassing to seek help from a professional, that is what they are there for, and even it’s as simple as communicating with a friend. Protect yourself and your mental state in 2018. “Your mind is a powerful thing. When you fill it with positive thoughts, your life will start to change.” – Unknown STICK TO YOUR GOALS- I know it’s easy to read this and say “oh heck yeah, I am going to change so much” but in reality we do it for maybe a week and a half, then we go back to our old habits. Don’t do that. Start with small goals that you know you need in your life and then build them up as 2018 goes on. I promise you the end result to your goals will be so, so rewarding that you will want to start a new tradition; finishing goals. Look back at your 2017 and ask yourself if you REALLY want to repeat the same mistakes, because I know I sure don’t. and when that ball drops for 2018 leading into 2019 you can look back at your checked off goals, and tell yourself “I made it another year”. “If you want to live a happy life, tie it to a goal, not to people or an object.” – Albert Einstein

While 2017 had its ups and downs, I know for me it was like a kick to the stomach for the majority of the year. Anytime I started to do anything right life would come and give me about 2,017 more obstacles to try to get past. I also had some of the best times of my life including getting accepted into college, making friends that will last a life time, and making the worst decisions of my life (which means I learned from them and grew as a person). Some of you were probably watching the ball drop and were sad seeing 2017 left behind, while other were thinking “thank goodness. You sucked.” As the New Year comes up you now have 365 days to start fresh and make changes for the better. Start simple, maybe you could start by getting a journal and making a list of goals and checking them off one by one as you accomplish them. Learning how to make your year and ultimately your life better in 2018 should be the only resolution you need. STOP BEING NEGATIVE - Whether it be about your appearance or thinking negative thoughts about others, just stop. Thinking negatively only sets you back and won’t help you move forward in YOUR goals. If you have a plan that may seem a little outrageous, instead of being negative and saying you can’t do it, think positively and tell yourself you WILL do it. “A positive attitude causes a chain reaction of positive thoughts. It is a catalyst and it sparks extraordinary results.” - NA BE BOLDER- This doesn’t just mean go up to your crush and ask them out. It also means do what you want to do. If you want to wear extravagant make up and dress up in the clothes you want to wear then do it. Be more confident and speak out when something is on your mind. Make your voice be heard. “Freedom lies in being BOLD.” – Robert Frost CELEBRATE YOUR ACHIEVEMENTS- Don’t take your hard work for granted. If you dismiss all of the amazing things you’ve done you will get burnt out and less motivated to do your best. Celebrating your achievements shouldn’t be a bad thing and I personally think more people should do it. Let people know how great you are, because in the end you’ll believe it the more you hear it. “Life should not only be lived, it should be celebrated.” – Osho LIVE EVERDAY LIKE IT’S YOUR LAST- Because it honestly could be. It doesn’t matter how young or old you are. You want to do something? Do it. Quit letting silly little things hold you back. You want to go sky diving? Maybe travel to a foreign country? Make sure you take advantage of every second of every day to accomplish all of these things. You don’t want to go through another year not doing what you want to do, because that’s where regret and silly “resolutions” come from. Start doing it instead of lying to yourself. “It’s your place in the world, it’s your life, go on and do all you can with it, and make

Keeping Up With Your Resolutions By: Conner Wiest

So there you are, 11:59 PM on New Year’s Eve, and you make the same commitment to yourself that you do every year at the same time. “I’m going to change my life and get fit this year.” You somehow convince yourself that this is true, and you get online to purchase a gym membership. I know that it doesn’t sound good to hear this, and you want to believe it’s not true, but reality needs to set in. January first hits and you are excited to change your lifestyle. You go to the gym, come back and you’re ecstatic about your new routine. This of course only lasts about a month just like every other year. The idea of working out every day is easy, but actually doing it is a whole different beast to conquer. This isn’t just about working out every day, but this is the example that I have chosen to demonstrate that people don’t stay with their resolutions. You need to set goals that are realistic to your lifestyle, and if you work five out of the seven days of the week, working out every day isn’t realistic. Set something like working out Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Studies show that to get fit, you only need to work out three or four days out of the week. That is a realistic and easy goal for most people to reach. People set expectations that are too high, and then instead of adapting to their lifestyle, they completely give up. Light workouts for three days are enough to get you to where you want to be, in a realistic time frame. More people have the “I’ll just do it tomorrow” attitude than I can count. Working towards a goal isn’t fun to some people, and many people also have the “get rich quick” attitude. No one wants to work for it and they will look for anything to make it easier. There’s nothing wrong with trying to make it easier on yourself, but if you find that the steps towards your goal are too easy, then it might be time to find a new goal for yourself. That isn’t necessarily a bad thing, you just had your mini goals set too easy. Just adjust your goals and you should be fine. Some people don’t keep up with their resolutions because they’re doing it all alone. It is definitely easier to have someone push you who has the same goal that you do. Surround yourself with people that have the same mindset. Teamwork creates accountability. Don’t surround yourself with “I’ll just do it tomorrow” people. This is why people hire personal trainers. Not only do they show you which workouts to do and help you do them, but they provide the motivation needed to accomplish your resolution. If you don’t want to pay for a personal trainer, then all you need is a friend to keep you going.

Another reason people give up would be that they realize that it isn’t what they really want, but what other people have told them that they should be doing. Start out your resolution slow, and then work to where you want to be. Starting out fast is a terrible way to start a resolution unless that’s the kind of drive you have to change, but be careful not to get burned out. People sometimes realize that they are unable to afford a gym membership and they have to jump ship without wanting to. You don’t need all the fancy equipment to get fit. Running around your neighborhood and push-ups as well as sit ups will keep you in the shape that you want to be in. People always say “get a gym membership.” The idea is better in your head than it is when you look at your bank account. Resolutions also fail because people don’t plan out their resolutions. If you don’t plan out what days and how you’re going to reach your goal, then you will never get to where you want to be. You can’t just “wing-it” and get your goal done with good quality. If you wing-it, then you might just barely pass your goal, but it won’t be with the quality that you could have had if you planned out the resolution. Set a detailed plan that helps you accomplish “mini-goals” each day. You can’t just go in blind and expect to get your goal accomplished. Having a positive mindset is a huge key to keeping up with your New Year’s Resolution. You have to look to the bright side of things when trying to accomplish your goals. If you’re negative and have a victim’s mentality, then you won’t get anywhere with it. “I can’t do this because it is someone else’s fault.” That will not get you anywhere with your goal, and it won’t get you anywhere in life. You have to work to get what you want, and being negative will not get you any closer to your goal. Laziness is a huge problem when trying to accomplish your New Year’s resolutions. It may not be what you want to hear, but it should definitely be something that you think about. You won’t get fit overnight, you have to put in work to try and make a difference. If you don’t get out of bed, you won’t get in shape. Overall, keeping up with a New Year’s Resolution isn’t the easiest thing to do, but it is definitely possible if you believe it’s possible. Following the ideas and steps that were listed will almost guarantee that you will keep up with your resolution. Surrounding yourself with other people is probably the easiest gateway to accomplish your goal. But remember to make your goal realistic and within your abilities. It should be hard to reach, but not so unrealistic that it is impossible to reach. All it takes is a little drive, and some will power to get your resolution behind you.

Logan Paul By: Carl Polk

YouTube star Logan Paul has been all over social media this past week, due to the controversy surrounding a video posted to his YouTube channel where he filmed a video inside Japan’s “suicide forest”. The video featured the body of man who had committed suicide. The video has since been deleted, but the after-effect is still being felt as viewers react and the future of the YouTube personalities channel remains up in the air. Everyone is calling him very selfish and childish for appearing to laugh in the moment, and trying to make small jokes to lighten the moment after finding the body. What triggered the audience the most is when he walks close to the body, and still continues to film the body for the world to see? Quickly finding out how the public responded to the video, he took it down after he achieved 6 million views on the famous social site. Even after the video was removed from YouTube, dozens of people recorded and saved the video for others to see. Logan continued to try and save his actions by posting a long apology on Twitter, stating he sincerely apologized for his actions and knows he should have never done it. Let’s break down some main points he made in his tweet, starting with him saying; “This is a first time for me. I’ve never faced criticism like this before, because I have never made a mistake like this before. I am surrounded by good people, and believe I make good decisions, but I’m still a good human being, I can be wrong.” He immediately goes into full defense, claiming no matter what he does, he still believes he is a good person who is surrounded by good people. Although this lady he was with in the video was giggling the entire time throughout finding the hanging body, and after Logan’s reaction to the scene where he says “what, you never stood next to a dead body before?” his claim is a little hard to believe. Everyone understands he is an entertainer, and when coming across a dead body there is not much he could do; IF he wanted to include it in the video. But he could have simply left it out of the video he published, and instead talked about it afterwards to raise awareness to what is out there and what he experienced. Keep in mind it takes him over a day to edit every video, so he was well aware what happened during his editing and could have changed the video to make it more sympathetic instead of a comedy. He also tweeted “I didn’t do it for the views. I already get views (way to be humble, logan), I did it because I thought I could make a positive ripple on the internet, not cause a monsoon of negativity. That is never the intention; I intended to raise awareness for suicide and suicide prevention and while I do this sh*t every day. (very sincere, adding cuss words for all your followers to see during an ‘apology’) I’ve made a 15 minute TV show EVERY SINGLE DAY for the last 460+ days. One may understand it is easy to get caught up in the moment

before fully weighing the full possible ramifications.” So once again, Logan is seriously defending himself hardcore while admitting he may have been caught up in the moment and not realized how the public may react. He somewhat brags about how much hard work he outs into his 15 minute vlogs every day. In his video he complains how children were running around the park, and could possibly run across the dead body or even worse; another body. Logan continues to show the body several times inside his video and continues to joke about it even though over half of his videos are viewed by a younger audience. People were still outraged by the video itself, spreading like wildfire over social media. This tweet did not help much, and instead made it worse due to its un-apologetic feeling everyone received from it. Everyone thought the tweet was a forced kind of apology and that Logan did not actually mean it, and this still did not steer away from the pure fact of what he did in the first place. After 500,000+ dislikes, his channel quickly started to make a turn, resulting in losing around 1/30 of his subscribers on YouTube, and tons of fans unfollowing him on twitter; but it doesn’t stop there. Youtube officials has officially deleted his YouTube Red account he had for special paying fans, and they also took always his premium ad sponsor meaning he will lose almost half of his ad revenue. This meaning that YouTube was also not happy about his decisions and has cut his paycheck from 15 million to 7.5 million a year. Logan then went to the next best thing, and made an apology video on YouTube. The video is labeled “I’m Sorry”; where he speaks about the incident and apologizes several times. This video seems to be more sincere than the tweet itself, but still did not do much justice. In the video, Logan says “I made a severe and continuous lapse in my judgement, and I don’t expect to be forgiven. I’m simply here to apologies. What we came across in the woods that day was obviously unplanned. The reactions you saw on tape were raw; they were unfiltered. None of us knew how to react or how to feel. I should have never posted the video. I should have put the cameras down and stopped recording what we were going through. There are a lot of things I should have done differently but I didn’t. And for that, from the bottom of my heart, I am sorry.” Logan says in his apology video. As you can tell, he truly understands how he screwed up. Only time can tell if people will manage to cling on to his mistakes or finally let go and realize he is only a young entertainer who screwed up. Logan tweeted on January 3rd and said he is taking a timeout from YouTube to take some time and some self-evaluation; and has not uploaded since.

game’s jungle setting, literally becoming the adult avatars they chose. What they discover is that you don’t just play Jumanji - you must survive it. To beat the game and return to the real world, they’ll have to go on the most dangerous adventure of their lives, discover what Alan Parrish left 20 years ago, and change the way they think about themselves - or they’ll be stuck in the game forever. It’s a part of the Jumanji film series. The critic reviews are all great and consist of “Welcome to the Jungle is an entertaining - if shallow - return to the world of Jumanji that’s intended more for youngsters than nostalgic adults.” – Screen Rant, “A thoroughly enjoyable holiday film that makes the most of its charming” – Times of India, and “The film’s stars — Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, Kevin Hart and Karen Gillan — are darn near impossible to dislike, in roles that require them to play teenagers trapped in adult bodies.” – The Washington Post. If you like the original Jumanji, Jumanji; Welcome to the Jungle would be a great movie for you. A film series that captured most girls’ attention is the Pitch Perfect series. Pitch Perfect blew up, no one really expected a sequel but the sequel blew up even more. Here recently Pitch Perfect III was released on December 22, 2017. After the highs of winning the world championships, the Bellas find themselves split apart and discovering there aren’t job prospects for making music with your mouth. But when they get the chance to reunite for an overseas USO tour, this group of awesome nerds will come together to make some music, and some questionable decisions, one last time. 92% of people really enjoyed this movie but the critics have mixed feelings about it. “A tired retread of better jokes in the first two movies, this drags along to an admittedly heartwarming conclusion. But it’s a good thing this caps the trilogy because it’s coasting on fumes.” – Empire, “Although Kendrick’s pint-size dynamo once pushed the Bellas beyond their la-la-la comfort zone, she basically sleepwalks through this third go-round.” – Washington Post, “With a plot as unfocused as its freshly graduated characters, the shaggy Pitch Perfect 3 gets by on karaoke logic: What makes for a good time isn’t the song you sing, but the company you keep.” – The NYtimes, and “Pitch Perfect 3 offers a satisfying conclusion to the a capella series, but sacrifices heart and substance for bizarre, over-the-top story choices.” – Screen Rant. Pitch Perfect Three is a great good feeling comedy all around. There are so many more great movies that have recently been released but these are a couple of the top rated and talked about movies this month. 2018 has its expectations very high in the film area, mainly for the many sequels of childhood movies that are told to be released that many people have been waiting several years to see. I really hope that 2018 lives up to its expectations and I can’t wait to see everything that’s in store.

Wichita Swatting Incident By: Colin Briley

Thursday night in Wichita, Kansas there was an incident between the Kansas police and a 28 year old man. During Thursday night a man under the name of Tyler Bariss made a fake phone call to the police reporting that he murdered and had several hostages in the house. When Bariss made the phone call he gave the police a fake address. This led to the police taking extreme caution while coming upon the random Wichita home. When the victim Thomas Finch saw the police lined up outside of his house he went outside to see what was going on. After going outside Finch reached down to his pants and this is when one of the officers had fired a shot at Finch and killed him. The police thought that Bariss was the murderer from the phone call. All of this started for what seemed to be a prank call, but this whole situation all started before this. A couple of nights before the incident two friends were playing a game of Call of Duty. The winner of the game wins only a dollar. During the game one of the friends had accidently killed the other friend during the game. This led to escalate the mood of the match. Both of the friends started arguing with each other. That is when one of the friends gave the other one his address and told him to swat him. The address of one of the friends was his old address when he used to live in Wichita, Kansas. Swatting has become a term that is used when someone calls the police anonymously and reports a problem that is not truly happening. truly happening. Swatting is used to mess with people, schools, and even some events. The problem with this is not only is it wasting the time of the police, but it is also putting the people who are getting swatted into danger. After one of the friends received the address he gave it to Tyler Bariss who goes by the name SWAuTistic. Bariss has been able to become a notorious swatter in the community. Bariss has been known to shut down multiple schools, events, and even swat random people. Bariss was arrested in 2015 for calling a fake bomb threat on KABC.

After Bariss was released for his two year sentence he made the claim that he would never do something like that again. This was of course not the case for Bariss. Once Bariss had received the address he immediately made his false call to the police. It was during the call that Bariss had started making claims that he had killed his dad, and now had his mom and sister gun point in the closet. Bariss then later started making the claims that he had poured gasoline all over the house, and he was going to burn down the house at the sight of anyone. Due to this phone call it made

the police have to precede the house with a lot of caution. Since the police had the idea that the person inside of the home was armed and dangerous the police went to the house thinking that multiple people’s lives were in danger. Then the victim of the shooting was unaware of the whole situation, so when you add up these two things together the end result is going to be bad. This incident hopefully would have made people quit swatting other people, but this is not the case. There are still cases of people swatting people despite them seeing the danger of what could happen when you swat someone. A game of competitive Call of Duty turned into a death for someone who wasn’t even related to the whole situation. The problem with the whole swatting situation is it is very easy to pull off for some people. Swatting dates to at least the early 2000s, and the FBI brought the whole situation to the public about it in 2008. When it comes to swatting people the usual target of the act are celebrities, streamers, and you tubers. People swat these people as a joke or a prank just to mess with that famous person.

Swatting Incident Cont. The act of swatting is usually done in two

different ways. One is called caller ID spoofing. The quick and free trick, using websites and apps, makes a call appear to the 911 operator as though it is coming from inside someone’s house. This makes things a lot more difficult to figure out who is truly calling and where they are calling from. Using this technique makes it show up that you are somewhere else then where you truly are. This was most likely the technique that was used by Bariss. The second swatting method sidesteps the traditional phone system altogether. Some swatters use a teletypewriter (TTY) relay. This is a phone system created for people who are deaf. They use this to place 911 calls. The TTY system is appealing to swatters because the Federal Communications Commission requires relay services to keep TTY calls, and callers, confidential. Since Bariss had a physical phone call it shows that he must have used the first technique. Even if it seems like a 911

call is a prank the police still have to treat it as if it was real. These swattings are not only wasting the people’s times that are getting swatted, but also the police that have to respond to the call. Overall swatting might seem as a funny prank to pull off, but at the end of the day doing this can end up badly. Despite this being a major controversy on who is at fault if it is the police, one of the friends playing Call of Duty, or the Bariss. If the call would have never been placed then all of this would never have happened. After this incident awareness for the dangers and the seriousness of swatting has risen. Hopefully soon law enforcement can crack down on these swattings that are happening. 17pg #

Coaching Conundrum

Jack Del Rio was not the only coach to lose their job however. Many coaches were released at the end of the season and it looks like the NFL landscape will change drastically over the next year. I have listed the coaches that have lost their jobs below. -The head coach for the Chicago Bears John Fox also lost his job and was replaced by now former chiefs Defensive coordinator Matt Nagy. -The lions released head coach Jim Caldwell and are still looking for his replacement; however the favorite for his Job is Matt Patricia the defensive coordinator for the Patriots. -Chuck Pagano lost his job as head coach with the Colts and they are also searching for his replacement. The favorite to take his job is Josh McDaniels who is currently offensive coordinator for the New England Patriots. -Ben McAdoo of the Giants was fired during the season and they still have not chosen a replacement. -The Arizona Cardinals coach Bruce Arians retired and the team will be searching for his replacement as well. -Mike Mularkey was released from the Tennessee Titans, but they have already found a replacement. The team hired Mike Vrabel, a former defensive coordinator for the Texans. Not all coaches lost their jobs however. -The Browns head coach Hue Jackson managed to hang on to his job even though the Browns went 0-16 this past season, the second team to ever do this. -Ron Rivera was signed to a two year extension as head coach of the Carolina Panthers. -Marvin Lewis of the Cincinnati Bengals was also signed to a contract extension. The coaching in the NFL has seemed to be an enigma in recent years. Many teams give up on a scheme and coach before they have the chance to get rooted in the area. Many coaches lost their jobs last year and I expect to see more coaching changes as some coaches are on the hot seat and may be released soon.

By: Hunter Raymond The Raiders were not able to recreate their success of the past year, not even making the playoffs this year. The offense was not as successful even with the addition of Marshawn Lynch and the Defense was not able to make up for missed opportunities of the offense. The Raiders will soon move from Oakland to Las Vegas. The Raiders shockingly released coach Del Rio from his contract after a short tenure with the team after a disappointing end to the season. In another shocking move the team managed to get Jon Gruden to come out of retirement with a blockbuster deal of $100 Million for 10 years as the head coach of the soon to be Las Vegas Raiders. Jon Gruden has not coached for ten years. Many know him from his previous time with the Oakland Raiders and his Super bowl win with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Before being hired, Gruden had been working as a commentator. Gruden spent his last day in the booth commentating over a future rival, the Kansas Chiefs in their playoff appearance against the Tennessee Titans. With a new head coach the Raiders look to improve their team after their move to Vegas and have already done so in a big way. Jon Gruden will be looking to hire coordinators that fit his system and will soon begin building the team around his system. This hiring has been surrounded by controversy as many believe they violated the Rooney rule. This rule states that you have to interview a minority when hiring.
