CITIES HAVE REPLACES BIRD HABITATS, AND MANY BIRD SPECIES HAVE DISAPPEARED, ALTHOUGH SOME SPECIES HAVE ADAPTED. THEY HAVE FOUND A WAY TO THRIVE WITH THE STRUCTURES THAT WE HAVE BUILT FOR OURSELVES WITHOUT TAKING THEM INTO CONSIDERATION.

WITHIN THE CITY

this is OUR CITY

CAN THEY SEE US?

these are HUMAN COMMUNITies

DO THEY KNOW WE ARE UP HERE?

WE SEE BIRDS AND HEAR THEM DURING OUR EVERYDAY ACTIVITIES, ON OUR WAY TO WORK OR SCHOOL, FROM OUR HOMES AND BACKYARDS, AND WHEN WE VISIT THE GREAT OUTDOORS.

this is urban life

AND HUMAN COMMUNITIES

BECAUSE THEY HAVE ADAPTED TO OUR CITIES, WE TAKE FOR GRANTED THAT THEY ARE AROUND; WE BELIEVE IT HAS BEEN AN EASY TASK FOR THEM TO ADAPT, AND IGNORE THEM EVERY DAY.

WE MUST DELIVER A MESSAGE

OOOOH AAAAHH

HA HA, you fool birds !

the people of morgantown will NOT TOLERATE THIS...

WE ARE LEAVING !

CITIZENS: PLEASE DON’T LEAVE!

let’s design how to live with them

we can work it out with the birds

THE MODULAR 3D GRID IS THE FUTURE OF THE CITIES BECAUSE IT INTEGRATES MODULES WITH THE CITY, ITS TOPOGRAPHY, RESIDENTS AND EVERY DAY ACTIVITIES.

THIS 3D MODULAR GRID IS FANTASTIC

THE EVERYDAY BIRDHOUSE STARTS OFF AS A GRID COMPOSED OF CUBES, WHICH ARE CONSTITUTED BY STEEL-FRAMING SYSTEMS, WHICH PROVIDE RIGIDITY AND SUPPORT TO THE GRID ITSELF AND THE BUILDINGS WITHIN THE GRID. WE WILL BE ABLE TO INTERACT WITH NATURE

LOOK AT THOSE BIRDS!

LOOK AT THOSE HUMANS !

THE BUILDINGS WITHIN THE 3D GRIDS ARE CALLED PODS, AND THESE CAN HOUSE ANY TYPE OF LAND USE SUCH AS RESIDENTIAL, COMMERCIAL, RETAIL, INSTITUTIONAL AND CIVIC.

THE 3D GRID NOT ONLY SUPPORTS THE PODS, BUT ALSO PROVIDES CONNECTIONS BETWEEN THE EXISTING PART OF TOWN AND THE PODS THEMSELVES.

this is the NEW CITY

the 3d grids allow an interaction between human activities and bird habitat

THE 3D GRIDS ADAPT TO THE TOPOGRAPHY OF THE TOWN AS THE AREA CHANGES. FOR EXAMPLE, WHERE THERE ARE BUILDINGS WITH STUDENT HOUSING. IT CONNECTS STUDENT HOUSING PODS WITH THESE EXISTING BUILDING.

eastern phoebes forage through fly-catching

blue jays prefer to nest at high elevations

LET’S GO WATCH THE BIRDS THROUGH THE BRIDGES

FOR EXAMPLE, WHERE THE HOSPITAL IS LOCATED, THE GRID DEFORMS TO BRING PEOPLE TO THE GROUND FLOOR, AND WHERE THE RIVER IS LOCATED, THE GRID EXTENDS AND TOUCHES THE WATER TO PROVIDE A PLACE WHERE BIRDS AND HUMAN CAN COME IN CONTACT WITH IT.

IT IS ESTABLISHED THAT THE EVERYDAY BIRDHOUSE IS NECESSARY FOR THE FUTURE OF THE CITIES, AND FOR THAT REASON CHILDREN ARE NOW LEARNING HOW TO DEVELOP EVERYDAY ACTIVITIES THAT CAN BENEFIT THE BIRDS AND HUMANS AT THE SAME TIME.

BIRDS BRING LITTLE BITS OF WILDERNESS TO THE CITIES.

BIRDS HAVE BEEN, WILL BE AND ARE PART OF OUR DAILY LIVES. WE NEED TO LEARN AND TEACH HOW TO LIVE IN HARMONY WITH THEM, WITHOUT DESTROYING THEIR HABITAT LITTLE BY LITTLE LIKE WE HAVE BEEN DOING.

VISTAS

DUE TO THE RISKS WINDOWS AND ARTIFICIAL LIGHTS INSIDE BUILDINGS POSE TO BIRDS, BIRD-PROTECTION SCREENS HAVE BEEN ADAPTED ON THE FACADES OF BUILDINGS WHICH ALLOW THE VISUAL OF RESIDENTS TO THE OUTSIDES, AN AT THE SAME TIME PROTECT THE BIRDS FROM CRASHING AGAINST THE WINDOWS BY DEFLECTING THE LIGHTS COMING FROM INSIDE THE BUILDINGS AND THE REFLECTION OF THE SKY ON THEM.

BIRD SCREEN PROTECTION

THE PODS ARE DESIGNED AS BUILDING WITH DIFFERENT ANGLES TO PROVIDE VISUALS TO EVERY PART OF THE GREEN SPACES WHERE BIRDS NEST AND FORAGE, SO THAT HUMANS CAN BE AWARE OF THE EVERYDAY PRESENCE OF BIRDS.

LET’S START ACTING UPON THIS BY CREATING AND ACCEPTING HABITATS FOR BIRDS. TECHNICALLY, HUMANS NEED BIRDS BECAUSE THEY KEEP SYSTEMS IN BALANCE BY DISPERSING SEEDS, POLLINATING PLANTS, AND RECYCLING NUTRIENTS BACK INTO THE EARTH.

THE EVERYDAY BIRDHOUSE OFFERS A 3D GRID WITH PODS THAT HAVE DIFFERENT LAND USES. THESE LAND USES ARE DIRECTLY RELATED TO THE GREEN SPACES WHERE BIRDS CAN NEST AT DIFFERENT ELEVATIONS . VISTAS

3D G R ID INSID G OES TH RO E OF BU I L UG H TH E D I NG PODS VISTAS FROM EVERY ANGLE INSIDE BUILDING PODS

THE GRID SUPPORTS ITSELF AND THE PODS

SPIRITUALLY, HUMANS NEED BIRDS FOR INSPIRATION AND CREATIVITY, AND TO TEACH US THAT THERE ARE MIRACULOUS BEINGS THAT CAN FLY AND SEE THE WORLD FROM A DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVE THAN WE DO.

IN MANY CITIES, BIRDS EVEN MAKE PART OF THE SENSE OF PLACE. MANY REGIONS IN AMERICA HAVE A CERTAIN BIRD AS THE OFFICIAL BIRD.

“Education is the m ost powerful weapo n you can use to change the w orld.” - nelson man dela

BIRDS CONNECT HUMANS WITH THE NATURAL WORLD, AND THROUGH THEM WE SEE THE PREDICTION OF THINGS SUCH AS SEASONS AND WEATHER CHANGES. LET’S START BY LEARNING !
