MJ INSURANCE EXISTS
TO INSPIRE THE SUCCESS , FULFILLMENT , AND WELLBEING OF EACH PERSON WE SERVE: OUR ASSOCIATES AND THEIR FAMILIES, BUSINESS PARTNERS, CLIENTS AND OUR COMMUNITY.

PART 1 | OVERVIEW

ABOUT THIS REPORT
This report provides a deeper look into who we are at MJ and furthers our commitment to each person we serve: our associates and their families, business partners, clients and the community. We have just begun our ESG journey at MJ, and we are committed to transparency as we report on each element. This report covers our 2020-2022 fiscal years and has been aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB) for the Professional Commercial Services industry.
FORWARD-LOOKING STATEMENTS
This report serves as MJ’s first comprehensive ESG report which describes our approach to measuring and managing the performance of key environmental, social and corporate governance focus areas.

This ESG report may make and discuss projections, goals, assumptions and statements that may constitute “forwardlooking statements” within the meaning of the Private Securities Litigation Reform Act of 1995. These projections, goals, assumptions and statements are not historical facts but instead represent only a belief regarding future events, many of which, by their nature, are inherently uncertain and outside MJ’s control. These projections, goals, assumptions and statements include statements preceded by, followed by or including words such as “will,” “commit”, “may”, “believe”, “anticipate”, “expect”, “intend”, “plan”, “focused on achieving”, “view”, “target”, “goal” or “estimate.” These statements are not guarantees of future performance, involve risks, uncertainties and assumptions that are difficult to predict and may not prove to be accurate, and, in some cases, are based on standards for measuring progress that are still in development and internal controls and processes that continue to evolve. Actual outcomes may differ from what is expressed or forecasted in these forward-looking statements.
The standards of measurement and performance contained in this report are developing and based on assumptions. No assurance can be given that any plan, projection, target, goal, or commitment outlined in this report can or will be achieved.
A LETTER FROM MICHAEL H BILL

I am pleased to share with you MJ’s first-ever Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Report. This report highlights the impact of our work for our clients, our partners our communities and our associates. Embarking on our ESG journey was a natural decision for MJ. After all, our Purpose is to inspire the success, fulfillment and wellbeing of each person we serve. When we began our journey, we knew there would be areas of opportunity, but we also knew there would be areas where we would say, “Hey! We’re really doing something right here.” I’m pleased to say I felt more of the latter when reviewing our report with my fellow board members. I believe that reports such as this will help us hold ourselves accountable to the Purpose that drives us each and every day.
Maintaining the purpose-driven mission we crafted almost a decade ago can be difficult when faced with challenges we’ve all experienced over the past two years. The global pandemic that began in 2020 and lingered throughout 2021 and 2022 changed the game for us. It tested us in ways we have not been tested before. Thankfully, here at MJ, we have never shied away from a challenge. I am blessed to work with associates who saw the challenge as an opportunity to learn, develop and grow. We were able to use our Purpose as a guiding light to navigate through a dark time. It helped us focus on employee and client experience as we lost face-to-face connections but discovered new ways to support and encourage each other from a scattered network of home offices.
We were able to come together as an organization and not only rally around each other but also around the communities we serve. This is an aspect for which I am remarkably grateful. Grateful for a team of associates that personify everything MJ stands for. Grateful for their continued passion, commitment, determination, innovation, humor and curiosity—all words that are integral to our culture.
As I believe our report highlights, MJ team members stepped up. We enjoyed a quick and seamless transition to a virtual environment. We supported ongoing peer development and wellbeing. We continued to make a difference in our communities through the MJ Foundation, MJ’s Diversity, Equity + Inclusion initiative and a Together4Impact campaign to provide relief to our local communities during the pandemic.
We are carrying the adaptability the pandemic fostered and capitalizing on it by becoming agents of change not just within the walls of MJ and within our business, but within the community. We’re changing the way the world thinks of insurance. From a male, pale and stale industry to a diverse, resilient and innovative leading company. I, for one, can’t wait to see all that’s in store.
Looking ahead, I am honored to lead an organization with our Purpose and ESG at the forefront. This is a journey and area we are committed to cultivating our knowledge as we believe that by better understanding ESG we will be able to better serve our clients who face similar challenges. I invite you to continue reading this report to learn more.
Sincerely,
Michael H Bill, Chief Executive Officer MJ Insurance

FOCUSING ON WHAT MATTERS MOST
STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENT
At MJ, we have realized the importance of ESG for our continued growth and long-term success. From attracting like-minded clients, talent and partners, to identifying areas for improvement, ESG offers many benefits and isn’t going away any time soon. As we continue to measure our environmental, social and corporate governance performance, we wanted to understand our stakeholders' top priorities regarding our impact on each ESG element.
In 2022, we conducted our first-ever materiality assessment. Materiality assessments help narrow down the environmental, social and corporate governance topics to be representative of the most important factors according to all stakeholders and strategic partners. It is through this assessment that we can identify which elements are the most material; meaning, they are reasonably likely to impact the financial condition or operating performance of our company and therefore are the most critical to our organization. Materiality assessments also present a few more benefits, like guiding the discovery of long-term risks and providing an opportunity to assess them.
As part of our materiality assessment, we surveyed both our internal and external stakeholders on the various elements of ESG. Stakeholders were then able to rank the elements based on importance to our ESG performance and sustainability strategy. Please note, all topics covered under the ESG umbrella are important. This assessment provides insight into what is most critically important to our stakeholders and our business. This assessment will now drive MJ’s sustainability strategy and help us identify key areas for target setting to improve business and sustainability performance. This assessment allows us to not only understand our key stakeholders' expectations but to exceed them.
Moving forward, we plan on conducting a materiality assessment every 3 years to ensure we are focusing our ESG efforts and strategy in the most relevant areas.

MATERIALITY MATRIX
MATERIALITY BREAKDOWN
Based on the findings of our materiality assessment, we know that focusing our efforts on the corporate governance and social aspects of our business is what our stakeholders view as the most critical components to our success. Using this information, we know that we need to prioritize and continue our daily commitment to corporate governance measures. These measures include ethics and integrity, competitive and economic performance, and cyber and data security measures.
We must also continue focusing our efforts on growing our associates both personally and professionally. Our most critical social element is related to employee development and wellbeing.
We have a more in-depth materiality assessment that is being used internally to further our overall strategy. This assessment breaks down each broad category into more precise sections to help us determine what exactly our stakeholders value the most within each category. Our in-depth materiality assessment gives us direct insight into the most critical aspects of our business, so we can ensure we are focused on the critical areas where we can make the greatest impact.

SUSTAINABILITY STRATEGY
Based on the findings of our materiality assessment, we can make informed assumptions about what is critical to not only our success but also where we should align our focus when it comes to our ESG strategy. We have big aspirations here at MJ, and we are committing to the following items.
OUR ASPIRATIONS
+ To remain vigilant on cybersecurity matters and be a proactive force in guarding our clients’ data.
+ To uphold our integrity in every aspect of our business.
+ To initiate change in the communities around us environmentally, socially and economically.
+ To be a disruptor in the industry to drive change through innovation. We hope that APERTURE will, not only allow us to gather data from across the country to provide nationwide industry benchmarks but also reshape how data is shared and demand price transparency in the healthcare & risk management markets.
+ To change the perception of the insurance industry and foster an environment that values the diversity of life experiences and encourages innovation in pursuit of that mission both inside and outside the walls of MJ.
+ To continue to invest in our associates to attract and retain the top industry talent.
+ To prioritize our current associates’ personal and professional development and ensure employee wellbeing and inclusiveness are at the forefront of our company decisions.

+ To push boundaries to continuously raise our clients’ expectations about what their partners should do for them.
+ To encourage all strategic partnerships to align with our six Core Values.
FRAMEWORKS
In preparing this report, we followed the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the standards that were developed by the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB) for the Professional Commercial Services industry. Please note, at the time of publishing this report, the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) global framework that aligns with the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) standards has not been released. We are proactively preparing to collect data that will help us follow and implement the new framework. In future reports, we will align our strategy with the ISSB global framework.
UNITED NATIONS SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS

In 2015, the United Nations developed a plan for achieving a prosperous future, for people and the planet by 2030. 17 Sustainable Development Goals were defined as universal calls for action.

We at MJ recognize our responsibility to not only the communities around us but the impact that we can have on a global scale. We have aligned our approach with 6 of these international goals. These goals have the most material relevance to MJ’s business.
Note to reader: The SDG icons displayed throughout this report indicate which SDG the section impacts. Although some of the SDGs we impact were not revealed as the most critical material topics, we are still committed to making an impact on any SDG we can as they are all integral to a prosperous planet. We have aligned our sustainability strategy and ESG approach with these six goals, to ensure we are making the greatest contribution within our current capabilities. We will continue to assess our impact on each of these goals moving forward and add any goals that prove to be relevant to our business in the future.

PART 2 | OUR BUSINESS

CONDUCTING BUSINESS WITH INTEGRITY POLICY
AGAINST HARASSMENT
In providing a productive working environment, MJ believes that our associates should be able to enjoy a workplace free from all forms of discrimination, including harassment on the basis of race, religion, gender, national origin, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, mental or physical disability or other legally protected status. It is the Company’s policy to provide an environment free from such harassment.
It is against Company policy for any person, whether a manager, subordinate or coworker, client, vendor or guest or any third party over which the Company has control, to harass an associate. Prohibited harassment occurs when verbal or physical conduct that defames or shows hostility toward an individual because of his/her race, religion, gender, national origin, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, mental or physical disability or other legally-protected status, or that of the associate’s relatives, friends, or associates, creates or is intended to create an intimidating, hostile or offensive working environment; interferes or is intended to interfere with an associate’s work performance; or otherwise adversely affects an associate’s employment opportunities.
A thorough and impartial investigation of all complaints will be conducted in as timely and confidential manner as reasonably possible under the circumstances. Any associate who is found, after appropriate investigation, to have harassed another associate will be subject to disciplinary action up to and including termination.

NO RETALIATION POLICY
It is of utmost importance to MJ that our associates feel safe in the workplace and that they can raise concerns and make reports without fear of reprisal. Anyone found to be engaging in any type of unlawful discrimination or who retaliates in any way against complainants will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment. No victim retaliation or discrimination will result from any good-faith complaint made under our policies.
INSIDER INFORMATION + TRADING IN SECURITIES OF CLIENTS
Since October 1, 2011, MJ has prohibited trading on insider information and trading in securities of Clients. This policy applies to all associates. In the course of employment with the Company, associates regularly receive confidential information relating to Company Clients and others. The Company takes appropriate steps to preserve the confidentiality of this information.

Information MJ receives sometimes relates to companies whose securities are publicly traded, creating the possibility for misuse of the “inside” information for personal gain. Such misuse can take the form of improper trading in the company’s securities or improper disclosure (i.e., “tipping”) of the information to others. Either form of misuse might violate the insider trading provisions of the federal securities laws. Federal laws generally prohibit the purchase or sale of any publicly traded stock, bond, option or other security by a person in possession of important information about the security or its issuer that is not publicly known. These laws

have significance to those associates with firms like the Company because associates of the Company, during the normal course of business, sometimes learn of information about Clients and others that may be “material nonpublic information.” This circumstance may create of associates, manager and non-manager alike, two duties: (1) a duty not to trade while in possession of such information and (2) a duty not to communicate such information to anyone outside of the Company. MJ insists that its associates comply with such duties and all applicable laws.
PROCOURSE FIDUCIARY ADVISORS FIDUCIARY DUTIES: CODE OF ETHICS AND CONFLICTS POLICY
In 2021, MJ acquired ProCourse Fiduciary Advisors (ProCourse). This acquisition allowed us to expand upon our retirement and financial wellness offerings for our clients. As a fiduciary, ProCourse associates adhere to their own code of conduct in addition to the policies listed above.
CODE OF ETHICS
The Company is a fiduciary for its investment advisory clients. At all times, all must comply with applicable federal securities laws and must reflect the professional standards expected of those engaged in the investment advisory business, and they shall act within the spirit and the letter of the federal, state, and local laws and regulations pertaining to investment advisers and the general conduct of business. These standards require all personnel to be judicious, accurate, objective, and reasonable in dealing with both clients and other parties so that his or her personal integrity is unquestionable.
Associates must place the interests of Advisory Clients first. All associates must scrupulously avoid serving his or her own personal interests ahead of the interests of the Company’s Advisory Clients. In addition, they must work diligently to ensure that no client is preferred over any other client.
All Associated Persons are naturally prohibited from engaging in any practice that defrauds or misleads any client, or from engaging in any manipulative or deceitful practice with respect to clients or securities.

CONFLICTS POLICY
ProCourse considers the avoidance of conflicts, real or perceived, to be of utmost importance. The trust and confidence our clients’ place in us is tantamount to the success of our clients and our business. ProCourse never wants to be in a position where a client questions our advice as anything other than unbiased and without outside influence. Our internal policy, which is required to be adhered to by all employees, is as follows:
+ All recommendations are to be in the best interest of our clients.
+ The only compensation ProCourse will receive is that which our clients pay us.
+ We do not receive any compensation from any investment manager, recordkeeper or other party. We do not accept any referral fees from any party.
+ We do not accept any gifts, meals or other things that could be construed as compensation from outside parties.
+ We do not allow any party to subsidize education for our team members.
+ We do not allow vendors to our retirement plan clients to subsidize meetings we host when the benefit of doing so impacts only ProCourse or its employees. We do occasionally work with vendors regarding sponsorship opportunities that benefit the community and raise financial awareness
HUMAN RIGHTS
MJ incorporates the Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact into strategies, policies and procedures to establish a culture of integrity. In doing so, we are upholding our basic responsibilities to people and the planet, while setting the stage for long-term success. While we have not yet signed the UN Global Compact, it is incorporated into our strategy for the future. The policies include:
+ Ensure we are not complicit in human rights abuses.
+ Prohibit forced or compulsory labor.
+ Prohibit child labor.
+ Provide safe, healthy working conditions.
+ Encourage a diverse workforce and provide a workplace free from discrimination, harassment or any form of abuse.
+ Treat employees fairly in regard to wages and benefits
MJ is an equal-opportunity employer, and we are dedicated to continuing the development and implementation of initiatives designed to prevent discrimination, harassment and other actions that undermine our commitment to diversity, inclusion and equal opportunity.
RESPONSIBLE PRACTICES
ECONOMIC PERFORMANCE
MJ celebrated its 58th anniversary in June of 2022 and has generated positive net income in every fiscal year. MJ has no corporate debt and maintains a strong balance sheet to have adequate working capital to make investments needed to serve our clients. Recent examples of our financial strength and investment tolerance include our 2022 market expansion into Colorado and related talent acquisition in that market, the 2021 acquisition of ProCourse to grow our financial wellbeing and investment consulting services and the creation of our Compensation and Total Rewards consulting practice.

TRANSPARENCY
Transparency and business go hand-in-hand. Our materiality assessment shows that our clients and carrier partners seek transparency, as do our associates. We understand the importance of transparency, and it has been embedded in our business practices from day one. When we set out on our ESG journey, we knew there would be areas where we fell short and areas of opportunity. We did not let this stop us in our endeavor to be a better partner for our people, partners, community and planet.
We believe in being as transparent as possible with our associates about the state of our business. Every month, we host an all-associate meeting led by our Value Creation Team (VCT), MJ’s executive team charged with setting the strategic direction of the firm in alignment with our Purpose, where we provide updates to our team members about strategic goals, financial standing and progress made toward our long-term vision.
We take transparency of our operations and financials one step further than required. Every year, we voluntarily have a third-party, independent audit from a CPA firm to attest professionally to our financials and to verify they are accurate with what we are reporting. This audit helps us build our credibility with our associates, clients and other key stakeholders.
In addition to our annual financial audit, we also have an annual third-party valuation of our company. This valuation assesses the value of our business and informs us where we stand related to best practices in the industry. Again, this valuation is entirely voluntary, and we do it to maintain transparency with no conflicts of interest. This consulting service also helps us determine compensation structure at the executive level. It provides guidance and benchmarks for our compensation rates to remain competitive in the market. Our current executive-level compensation is market driven to attract and retain top leadership with great skills and even greater cultural match.

GOVERNMENT RELATIONS
MJ partners with the Council of Insurance Agents and Brokers (CIAB) in Washington DC. We proudly support the Council’s initiatives towards government regulation on pricing transparency, the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) and employer-sponsored insurance.
RESPONSIBLE STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIPS
Though we do not currently have a supplier diversity program, we commit to aligning ourselves with strategic partners who share our values and our belief in corporate responsibility. We choose to partner with organizations whose values also help promote a more diverse, equitable and inclusive environment. Even though we at MJ are already innately choosing to partner with organizations that uphold our Purpose and Core Values, we are committed to developing a framework to ensure we make this the required standard and not leave it to chance.
RX TRANSPARENCY
We are proud to partner with a transparent Pharmacy Benefit Manager (PBM), TrueScripts. This partnership is important to us; as a data-driven company, TrueScripts shares our healthcare claims data which empowers our decision-making. With TrueScripts, our associates have no hidden pharmaceutical costs and can feel confident that their best interest is at heart.

OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH + SAFETY
As our section on “Our People” demonstrates, we place great weight on looking after our associates’ health and wellbeing. We follow the US Department of Labor standards set by the Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA). For more information on how we prioritize our associates’ health, please read, “Growing Our People”.
DATA PROTECTION + CYBERSECURITY PROTECTING

WHAT MATTERS
Data protection and cybersecurity remain top priorities at MJ. We are committed to maintaining data protection and security practices that are consistent with the market, legal and contractual requirements. We believe that protecting data is one of our most important responsibilities in building and maintaining trust, not only with our associates but also with our clients and partners. MJ has decided to align our cybersecurity program with the standards set forth under the National Institute of Standards and Technology’s (NIST) cybersecurity framework (CSF). The NIST CSF represents a collaboration between the Federal government and private sector and seeks to provide a scalable approach to the application of risk management principles and best practices toward the improvement of information security and resilience of critical infrastructure. The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) – which regulates ProCourse’s activities as a registered investment advisor under the Investment Advisers Act of 1940 – utilizes NIST’s CSF to guide its own internal cybersecurity program.
To that aim, MJ has partnered with a third-party data and cybersecurity agency to audit our program’s adherence to the NIST CSF and provide feedback on how to close identified gaps, if any; as well as suggest opportunities to strengthen our current security controls beyond CSF’s benchmarks.
We have an Information Privacy & Security Committee (IPSC) to shape and maintain our data and cybersecurity program. This committee reports directly to MJ’s Board of Directors. This team develops the specific policies and procedures that align our cybersecurity program with the NIST CSF. There are five function areas and an additional 108 subcategories in the NIST CSF that build our framework of Identification, Protection, Detection, Response and Recovery. Policies are approved by our senior leadership team before being implemented. MJ’s cybersecurity policies are reviewed and updated in a timely manner, as needed. One of the committees’ responsibilities includes overseeing the development, implementation and operation of an appropriate privacy security workforce training program. Our associates are enrolled in mandatory cybersecurity awareness and information handling and privacy training, at the time of onboarding and on an annual basis.
MJ also performs an annual risk assessment and conducts periodic penetration testing through outside vendors. These assessments inform the continual development and improvement of our internal security standards, practices, and policies. These results help influence our cyber and privacy incident response plan that outlines the appropriate processes and procedures for incident management.
ADVANCING THE INDUSTRY WITH INNOVATION APERTURE®
MJ’s dedication to innovation drove us to launch our very own analytics tool, APERTURE® — which allows us to provide our clients with real-world, actionable data for strategic decision-making. APERTURE offers a combination of descriptive, predictive and prescriptive analysis. Combined with the expertise of the MJ Analytics team, the platform forecasts future trends, evaluates the effectiveness of the client’s current risk management and employee benefits program, and models cost-saving solutions. With APERTURE, MJ recommends future-focused, data-driven insights for its client’s programs, helping to decrease costs, increase engagement and reduce wasteful spending.
OUR DATA DRIVEN PROCESS
IDENTIFY PREDICT DEVELOP IMPLEMENT MEASURE

Look at historical, current and future trends; benchmark on national, regional and local level; identify cost drivers and potential impact
Predict and forecast future trends; model cost-saving solutions
Create customized reports & develop data-driven recommendations based upon your unique business needs
Work with your MJ consultant to implement targeted solutions
Measure & evaluate impact with APERTURE’s realtime analytics

+ Over 100 sources of data from medical, rx and P+C carriers, clinic providers, wellness vendors and retirement record keepers.

+ National benchmarking: Due to our national reach, we can combine data across various geographic markets and industries. In doing this, MJ aims to advance the insurance industry by providing nationwide industry benchmarks.
+ Provider transparency: The insurance industry faces a long-standing challenge when it comes to provider transparency. By reshaping the way in which data is shared, MJ hopes to become a disruptor in the healthcare and risk management landscape and lead change.
APERTURE was developed to assist businesses in optimizing their overall risk profile — both by illuminating trends and by showing the impact that tactical and strategic decisions can have on an organization’s financial wellness, confidence and marketability. The data required to produce these dynamic reports is largely the same data required for underwriting claims history and current company assets. For APERTURE to work more efficiently, the flow of data between the insured, the broker and the carrier must be streamlined — benefiting all parties in the insurance industry.
- Wes Edrington, Director of Analytics and Automation
Owning this technology allows us to be nimble, agile and proactive when consulting our clients. Our long-standing relationships within the industry and the market put us in a unique position in which we can gather data from carriers and clients to make reputable predictions for the future.

To recertify with professional development credits (PDCs), SHRM credential-holders must earn 60 PDCs within their three-year recertification cycle period. Many of our InspireYOU events, MJ’s educational series of seminars, webinars, industry roundtables and workshops, qualify for PDCs.

GROWING OUR CULTURE
OUR 2021–2022 CORE VALUE CHAMPION OF THE YEAR, ALEXA MILKEY
Our 2021-2022 Core Value Champion of the Year was awarded to Alexa Milkey, our Employee Benefits Client Services Coordinator.

To me, Alexa embodies everything that we look for in our associates—she’s passionate and dedicated in her work. She is someone the whole team can count on to take initiative and ensure our clients receive the best experience. Alexa wants the best for both our clients and team members, and she goes above and beyond every day. I could not be prouder to have been able to announce Alexa as our Core Value Champion of the Year and to have her as a member of Team MJ.
– Andy Vetor, President - Benefits Consulting, Chief Growth Officer

CORE VALUE CHAMPION
As a purpose-driven organization, it is very important to us that our associates live our Purpose and exhibit our Core Values. Our culture can best be described by our six Core Values, which help empower our associates to be their very best in both their personal and professional lives. We honor our associates for fulfilling our Purpose and Values monthly through our Core Value Champion program.
Core Value Champion nominees are nominated by a fellow associate for demonstrating one or more of our Core Values throughout the month. Nominations are reviewed by a group of peers and our executive team, who then vote on the Core Value Champion of the month. This individual is recognized at our allassociate monthly meeting and receives recognition throughout the office. Each Core Value Champion receives a gift card to the MJ Shop for branded swag, a trophy and a designated parking spot for the month! At the end of the year, every Core Value Champion is considered for Core Value Champion of the Year. This is a fun way for us to live out our values and recognize the associates who go above and beyond to live our Purpose every day.
GROWING OUR PEOPLE
INVESTING IN OUR TEAM
We recognize that our associates are our most valuable asset. We aspire to build an inclusive, people-focused culture that empowers individuals to strive for team and personal success. To do so, we recognize that we need to invest in our people and be deliberate about how we develop our team members. We re-invest a portion of our revenue into our business to drive associate professional and personal development. In doing so, we can focus significantly on creating a culture and workforce that is rooted in our Purpose and Core Values.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
Our associates have earned us the strong reputation we have, and because of this we attract and retain the top talent in the industry. We provide our employees with the training and growth opportunities to further their success at MJ. We provide options such as career pathing, where we paint the picture to our associates of what advancement looks like in their role and the steps to achieve next-level growth in their career. This type of pathing allows our associates to personalize their growth and development.
We strongly support the continued education of our associates. To that end, we pay 100% of the cost of preapproved courses for licensing and continuing education credits. We are also a proud partner of the CIAB’s Insurance Professional School. We offer the opportunity for our associates to receive their Accredited Professional in Risk and Insurance (APRI) designation as part of this program.

LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT
We know our business is only as good as our people, and we are committed to developing leaders who not only help us change the industry but inspire other associates to do the same. MJ’s Leadership Development Program is designed to equip leaders with the skills and knowledge to create an environment that fosters collaboration,

inclusion and trust.
MJ is a founding member of trueU. trueU is a resource for purpose-driven companies to build strong cultures which attract and retain talent. Through our partnership, our associates have access to various training and development programs like trueU’s Leader in Training (LIT) program. This 6-month immersive course helps emerging and established leaders grow as quickly as their businesses grow, enhance their foundation for leadership, and develop the skills to become successful leaders.
PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT
We understand that there is more to our employees’ lives than their day job—and that by succeeding in their personal life, they are more likely to succeed in their professional life. So, we actively encourage our employees to find their true purpose in life, and we’ll do whatever we can to help them accomplish that purpose. We prioritize and encourage associates to create a Personal Development Plan (PDP) to help them outline where they see their life over the next 5-10 years. These exercises prove beneficial as they help our associates and leaders envision the future.

We offer tailored programming to aid in associate personal development. Topics range from financial wellness, health, mental wellness, technical resources and leadership resources. We truly believe that every associate is a leader both at work and in their personal life, and we want to empower our associates to live like it.
Additional Resources:
+ trueU serves as a one-stop shop for all things personal and professional development. Offerings range from resources on financial wellbeing to mental health wellbeing to leadership training.
+ LinkedIn Learning gives our associates access to an on-demand library of instructional videos covering the latest business, technology and creative skills.
+ Lessonly is MJ’s primary Learning Management System providing associates with information specific to MJ. Lessons range from IT resources, SOP’s and Value Proposition Capabilities. These courses are designed by MJ associates.
MENTORSHIP
We offer mentorship programming for our associates through a program called MJ Connect, an internal mentorship program to inspire the success and fulfillment of our associates by guiding individual growth, sharing intellectual wisdom and fostering a culture of collaboration. This is achieved by connecting seasoned associates (1+ years at MJ) with newer associates. As part of the program, each pair meets once a month for at least one hour to connect and align on the mentee’s goals. Though the mentee is the only one who sets goals, we believe, and our mentors have shared, that MJ Connect is a two-way mentorship program. Both parties can learn and benefit from one another as both are exposed to fresh perspectives, ideas and approaches. We have seen our associate participation more than triple since the program’s initial founding in 2018.
FOCUSING ON CONNECTION.
Client Executive, Erich Veigel, and Data Analyst, Kristen Conard are just one success story of MJ Connect. Erich and Kristen were connected in our first year of MJ Connect and have remained connected ever since.

When I first started the MJ Connect program and was paired with Erich, I had no idea what to expect. The only thing I knew about him was that he always had great Halloween costumes! Fast forward to many lunches, messages, and laughs shared through the last 4 years, Erich is one of my closest friends at MJ. He is someone that I can go to with a work or a life question. He gives great advice and is always there to set me on the right path. It’s been awesome having a mentor like Erich, and I am thankful for the MJ Connect program for helping facilitate this relationship.
- Kristen Conard, Data Analyst
I felt the same as Kristen when volunteering for the program, as I didn’t know what to expect. I’m so glad I didn’t let that stop me. Kristen is now one of my closest friends at MJ. I care about her as a friend and a peer. I have learned about her family, and I have watched her grow and be promoted at MJ. I am very proud of her accomplishments and her fulfillment in her role.
It has been easy mentoring her…we hit it off from the beginning! She has inspired me to be a better person. It’s not just a one-way relationship. I love coaching and developing people. And the fact she trusted me to help her is very fulfilling. While we are officially no longer partnered through MJ Connect, I will always be connected to her and continue to have lunches, conversations and advice to share with each other.
- Erich Veigel, Director of Client Experience
TEAM COLLABORATION

Teamwork is at the foundation of the service we provide to our clients. Without exceptional internal synergy, our services would not be what they are today. We are intentional with how we collaborate and communicate with one another. Every associate must complete our DiSC Workplace assessment and attend our DiSC Workshop. This personality assessment provides insight into each associates’ unique personality and work style. We find that in participating in this workshop, our associates can identify very quickly how their peers like to communicate helping to create an exceptional employee experience. This leads to more fulfilled employees, which ultimately leads to an exceptional client experience.
MJ INTERNSHIP PROGRAM
We are proud to offer a robust internship program where we offer paid internships to students to both further their education and provide fresh insight into MJ and the industry. Many of our interns stay on as full-time associates after they graduate. We were fortunate enough during the pandemic to be able to continue offering our internship program at a time when many businesses had to pause.
GROWING OUR INDUSTRY.
I was looking to learn more about the insurance industry, and I wanted a hands-on experience. Through my internship position, I was given the opportunity to rotate around the Commercial Insurance department to see the various positions available. On the first day, I was immediately struck by the way team members interacted with one another. I could immediately tell that the culture that was discussed during my interview was the real deal. As an intern, I didn’t expect to be included and embraced the way that I was. Everyone included me in client meetings and went out of their way to offer different learning opportunities. A highlight of my experience was my rotation with the Analytics team. Seeing what they do with APERTURE brought my studies to life. During my courses at Butler University, I learn about the importance of innovation in the insurance industry, and during my time at MJ, I felt very fortunate to work for an organization that values and encourages those innovative ways of thinking.

A NOTE FROM LEADERSHIP

Over the last few years, we have been making efforts toward a DE+I initiative, with the understanding that it is critical for our industry to remove the “stale, male, and pale” stigma. The necessity to change that perception is alive in all of us and as a key influencer in the market, we have a strong desire to be a catalyst for change in our industry.
Initially, the desire to launch a DE+I initiative was there, but we simply weren’t sure which path to take, where to make an impact or who to involve. Candidly, we weren’t interested in a “cookie cutter” or “check the box” approach because “one-size-fits-all” doesn’t define our culture.

It took the events of 2020 to spark our internal movement, creating a call to action for MJ to engage with a renewed focus on community and commitment to each other. We dove in headfirst to begin our transformation by forming the DE+I Council, creating a team charter, a multi-year DE+I Plan and launched the initial stages of implementation in alignment with our Purpose.
Team MJ is truly blessed to have a council of highly committed associates whose mission is to increase our ability to create an environment where everyone feels valued, encouraged, and empowered to achieve success.”
Looking ahead, I am honored to lead an organization with our Purpose and ESG at the forefront. This is a journey and area we are committed to growing our knowledge in as we believe that by understanding ESG for ourselves we will be able to better serve our clients who face similar challenges.
Sincerely,
Jon Loftin President + Chief Operating Officer
DE+I COUNCIL
In 2020, we formed our internal DE+I Council. The DE+I Council consists of MJ associates who have expressed passion for this cause and have been hard at work developing a DE+I roadmap.
DE+I STRATEGY
Our DE+I Initiative is extremely central to our Purpose. To be true to our Purpose, we must embrace all that is diverse. Our goal is to ingrain DE+I into our workplace, our associates, and within the industry as a whole. We fundamentally believe that the world will be a better place if we can ALL live our truth. Diversity drives innovation and creativity by bringing together different cultures, races, genders and backgrounds to provide new and different perspectives and ideas. We recognize the need to begin by educating ourselves and engaging in listening and learning at this stage in our journey. We know we have a long way to go, but we’re fully committed to seeing this through no matter how long it takes—we’re in it for the long haul.
DE+I VISION
At MJ, we recognize and appreciate the importance of creating an environment in which all associates are valued and empowered to do their best work and bring great ideas to the table. We know that it’s only with each associate’s unique and diverse experiences, perspectives and viewpoints that MJ can deliver holistic value to our clients. Our individual social, economic and cultural identities shape and influence our experiences and perspectives. Therefore, it stands to reason that MJ will do its best work by ensuring diversity in our workforce across the various dimensions of social and cultural identity and by practicing inclusivity in how we work with one another.

DE+I MISSION
The mission of the DE+I Council is to foster an environment that values the diversity of life experiences and perspectives and encourages innovation in pursuit of that mission both inside and outside the walls of MJ.
OUR WORKPLACE
We seek to foster a connected culture. We want to cultivate a supportive, welcoming, inclusive and equitable work environment that allows associates to feel connected to MJ’s Purpose and contribute to their full potential. We will continue to value different perspectives and empower the diversity of thought to enhance the growth and innovation of MJ.
MJ is an equal opportunity employer, and we are committed to continuing the development and implementation of initiatives designed to prevent discrimination, harassment, and other actions that undermine our commitment to diversity, inclusion and equal opportunity.
MJ does not tolerate discrimination in any form. We maintain a continuing policy of nondiscrimination in all employment practices and decisions, ensuring equal employment opportunities for all qualified individuals without regard to race, color, religion, national origin, gender, age, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, veteran status or any other protected status under state or local law.
This policy applies to all associates and applicants and to all phases of employment including hiring, promotion, demotion and treatment during employment, rates of pay or other forms of compensation and termination of employment. Further, this policy applies to individuals working for MJ through a temporary agency with respect to their environment when assigned to work for us.
OUR WORKFORCE
We are committed to educating our associates on the importance of DE+I initiatives through various in-person educational opportunities, keynote speakers, and more.

In 2020, we deployed two internal educational campaigns—Through the Lens and Voices Exposed. Through the Lens highlights moments in time into the lives, cultures and traditions of the people and events that have and continue to shape the world we live in today. We encourage all associates to interact and engage in discussion with the content shared through this campaign.
Our second campaign, Voices Exposed, is an interview-style insight into an MJ associate to highlight what makes their journey diverse. We include the entire conversation to exhibit transparency to the organization. The DE+I Council has received great feedback from our associates on Voices Exposed as it helps create a sense of community across our various office locations.

OUR INDUSTRY
The insurance industry has a stigma that is “male, pale and stale”. We know that to change that stigma for our industry, we first must look internally. When we began our DE+I journey in 2020, we committed to improving the industry. Because of this, part of our DE+I Charter encompasses an external focus on business initiatives.
We know that to create a more diverse and inclusive industry, we must make strategic partnerships. The following goals have been outlined for how MJ can help play a part in changing and diversifying our industry.
+ Engage in strategic outreach and broad recruitment, utilizing a variety of sources including diverse professional organizations, to maximize our ability to attract a diverse pool of applicants for employment and internship opportunities.

+ Establish and maintain partnerships with minority, women and other diverse professional associations to help develop and maintain a pipeline of diverse candidates.
+ Engage organizations that seek to place diverse candidates in internships when feasible, as part of a strategy for recruiting diverse interns and encouraging their interest within the Insurance Industry.
When selecting strategic partners, MJ is a responsible agency and considers the organization’s core values and purpose. We use this criterion to determine if they are a good partner for MJ and if we align towards working toward a more diverse, equitable and inclusive workforce and industry. We will continue to vet our partners to ensure we are supporting those who have the same vision for the future.
OUR RESPONSE TO COVID-19
TEAM MJ’S RESILIENCE
As previously noted, associate health and wellbeing is at the forefront of everything we do at MJ. When the global pandemic occurred, Team MJ rallied together to ensure we were fulfilling our Purpose of looking out for the wellbeing of all associates and their families. In early March 2020, MJ halted all business travels—before Covid-19 received pandemic status.
When the pandemic was declared, MJ sent all employees to work from home (100%). We recognized that in doing so, our associates would have to adjust to a completely new normal. To offset some of the financial burdens of transitioning to a fully remote work style, MJ offered all associates a $500 home office stipend to help offset the costs of creating a home office space, a practice still in place today; all new associates receive the same benefit. Our dedicated IT associates worked diligently to help their colleagues increase internet speed and provided technical support virtually for all associates.
The uncertainties that come with a global pandemic caused stress, anxiety and worry about the future. With our commitment to wellbeing, we made it a priority to check in on our associates’ mental health regularly and even made upgrades to our employee benefits package based on associate feedback.
Throughout the pandemic, we maintained our commitment to transparency with our associates. We held weekly companywide meetings with executive leadership to keep associates up to date and to create an open environment. In addition to these weekly meetings, executive leadership also hosted virtual roundtables where associates could come and voice their concerns and provide feedback in a smaller setting. We deployed pulse surveys throughout the pandemic to gauge employee sentiment which resulted in changes to our healthcare and benefits programming to ensure we continue to support our associates’ health and wellbeing in this time of uncertainty.
While health and transparency remained a top priority during the pandemic, we also knew we had to find a way to maintain employee engagement and our culture. To do so, we hosted virtual happy hours, trivia nights, and created fun Teams channels where our associates could feel a sense of connection at a time when we had to be apart.
We also took this opportunity to serve as a partner to our clients by releasing a series of COVID-19 resources on our website. We published over 70 resources including compliance and regulatory updates, employer toolkits and other critical information.

MJ is doing a fantastic job of keeping all employees informed. It’s amazing what we take for granted during the “normal” times. When I see the fun things posted on Teams or just am able to connect with coworkers, it really puts things in perspective for me.

RETURNING TO THE OFFICE
Part of why our associates love MJ is the workplace culture we have cultivated over our nearly six decades of operation. We knew that returning to the office was important to our culture and also realized the pandemic had shifted the way we work.

As part of our return to in-office operations, we deployed an updated workplace flexibility policy that was created by an all-associate led taskforce. With this policy, we offer the flexibility that our associates enjoy when working remotely and the opportunity to see one another in the office, where ultimately, we are able to live out one of our Core Values, FUN!
Once again, associate health is paramount for MJ leaders. When returning to the office, all Team MJ members received a wellness kit including face masks and other PPE, as well as COVID-19 guidelines. Associates also utilized a wellness check-in app to track symptoms and cases of COVID-19. With these precautionary measures and safety procedures in check, we were able to return to the office.

PART 4 | OUR COMMUNITIES

OUR COMMITMENT TO THE COMMUNITY
TOGETHER4IMPACT

With the tremendous health and economic impact the coronavirus pandemic placed on our communities, MJ was fortunate enough to be able to work and serve our clients while many others were not. We recognized the impact the pandemic was having on the communities we serve, and we felt a responsibility to provide support. We are proud to have partnered with Gregory & Appel on the Together4Impact initiative. Through this partnership, we overcame competitive boundaries and together mutually supported the greater Indianapolis community.
Each company donated $25,000 to organizations that support local communities most impacted by COVID-19. Our efforts focused on three pillars: food security, economic security, and family security. After the initial donation, we encouraged our industry partners to get involved and raised an additional $50,000 in funds, totaling $100,000 in COVID-19 relief. This was just the beginning of our journey.
THE IMPACT OF TOGETHER4IMPACT IN 2020
30% ECONOMIC SECURITY DURING THE PANDEMIC
30% FAMILY SECURITY DURING THE PANDEMIC
40% FOOD SECURITY DURING THE PANDEMIC
At Prevail, we know that we cannot serve the community without the support of the community. This is an amazing example of coming together to ensure that those who need help have access to services in meaningful ways. We are proud to be a family security recipient of the Together4Impact initiative.
-Susan Ferguson, Executive Director, Prevail, Inc.BEING INTENTIONAL, ACTIVE FORCES FOR GOOD

MJ FOUNDATION
Finding purpose is important to us. We are dedicated to inspiring the success, fulfillment and wellbeing of each person we serve. That includes giving back to the communities where we live and work and supporting local organizations that are making a positive difference. Our associate volunteer service hours and charitable donation matching programs are designed to reinforce and encourage our culture of giving back to the community.

In 2020, we founded the MJ Foundation. The MJ Foundation was created as a way to live our Purpose consciously and deliberately—to be an intentional, active force for good in the communities we call home.

OUR 10-YEAR VISION
To contribute $1MM to our communities in Greater Indianapolis, Phoenix and Denver in our first 10 years of operation.

OUR FOUR PATHS TO MAKING A DIFFERENCE
OVERCOMING POVERTY

We work to break the cycle of generational poverty by supporting efforts to move people living with economic hardship from survival to success, hopelessness to fulfillment and uncertainty to wellbeing.

FOSTERING DIVERSITY

We actively seek opportunities to advance the equity of people of color, members of the LGBTQ community, veterans and others underrepresented in the risk management and benefits consulting industries, to advance their careers and create a richer, more diverse professional workforce.

ADVANCING EDUCATION

We know that education can be a path to success in life. The MJ Foundation offers funding to educational institutions and students who need financial assistance as well as inspiration to pursue a fulfilling, noble career in risk management and benefits consulting.
EMBRACING HUMANITY
We provide humanitarian support for both situational and endemic issues that challenge the communities we serve—from disaster relief to children’s healthcare and the overall wellbeing of families.
COMMUNITY IMPACT

CHARITY OF CHOICE
To best serve our communities, we take a more focused approach—concentrating on two local charities where we get actively involved in the charity itself. Every two years, our associates choose one charitable organization in each of our markets to support as our Charity of Choice. Before becoming our Charity of Choice, charities are nominated, reviewed and selected by our own MJ associates! It is with our Charities of Choice that we focus much of our time and resources. Please note, as we opened our Colorado office in 2022, we chose to wait until our next Charity of Choice selection cycle to maximize the benefits the organization will receive.

Each Charity of Choice receives media and brand exposure, a $5,000 grant from the MJ Foundation and a dedictaed Day of Service each year with Team MJ associates.
OUR 2021 - 2023 CHARITIES OF CHOICE
INDIANA CHARITY OF CHOICE
Damar is one of the leading service providers for individuals with developmental, behavioral and intellectual disabilities. With a wide range of services covering everything from education to transitional living support, Damar is focused on providing the best care for not only those with disabilities, but their families and loved ones as well.
ARIZONA CHARITY OF CHOICE
Arizona’s Children Association is the largest and oldest child welfare and behavioral health not-for-profit in Arizona. Services include foster care, kinship services and family preservation among many others. Arizona’s Children Association ensures all funds are put towards providing the best care and services possible. With 89 cents of every dollar donated going directly into services, every donation plays a big role in impacting the lives of children and families throughout Arizona.

1,000 HOURS CAMPAIGN
With the development of the Foundation, we wanted to push ourselves to invest more of our time in serving the communities around us; in 2021, we launched an internal campaign to challenge our team to volunteer 1,000 community service hours in one fiscal year. In true Team MJ fashion, our associates surpassed this goal in April. With four months left in our fiscal year, we challenged our associates to double these hours. Our associates rose to the challenge and collectively volunteered a total of 2,680 hours during our 2021-2022 fiscal year!
To thank our associates for their work in the community, we selected three associates who served in our 1,000 hours campaign to choose a charity of their choice for the Foundation to provide a donation. We are proud to support these organizations and our associates who feel so passionately about serving our community.

Thank you for the donation! It means a lot to me to be able to help change the lives of many, making this world a better place.
- Gina Bass, Support Services Specialist
Thanks, Team MJ! This was a great idea, and I'm proud to have the opportunity to impact the community through my employer!
- Wes Edrington, Director of Analytics and Automation
2022 DAYS OF SERVICE
As much as our associates missed day-to-day contact in the office, they really missed being able to get together and serve our communities. Luckily, in 2022, we were able to launch our Day of Service with our Charities of Choice.
INDIANAPOLIS DAY OF SERVICE
Due to an overwhelming response, we provided two service day opportunities with our Charity of Choice, Damar. As part of Damar’s Fair Day, where Damar kids and staff enjoyed a fair-like experience, our volunteers helped run fair game stations, pass out prizes and serve lemonade shakeups and elephant ears.
For our second Day of Service, 31 of our Indianapolis associates painted murals across Damar’s Children’s Residential Campus to help make their temporary home more beautiful. This was a dream project for Damar as the walls painted were originally bare and were another reminder that the clients live in a residential treatment facility and not a home. With the help of Team MJ, the campus is now more colorful and vibrant.
The mural painting that Team MJ did has been a dream project for us at Damar for several years. The walls were built to serve as protection and boundaries for our residents; and while they are serving that purpose, they also were another reminder that the clients live in a residential treatment facility and not a home. We had the idea of painting the walls, and Team MJ stepped up to the plate to plan a remarkable Day of Service.
The day their associates were on campus was such an exciting day. Every associate was so happy to be there, and they were all dedicated to our mission here at Damar. When the murals were finished, the residents at Damar were ecstatic! For me, it was a dream come true. Team MJ helped make our residents’ temporary home more beautiful, and I can say on behalf of everyone at Damar, how thankful we are for such a remarkable partner in MJ.
– Jenny Peters, Damar’s Chief Strategy OfficerPHOENIX DAY OF SERVICE

Our Arizona office was also able to support our Charity of Choice, Arizona’s Children Association through two service days. For the first service opportunity, our associates helped fill backpacks with donated school supplies that were then given to students before their first day of school. In addition, our associates sorted books that were then distributed to various Arizona’s Children Association learning centers. For the second service day, 23 of our associates wrapped and organized gifts for children just in time for the holidays.

CHARITY OF THE MONTH

We realize that there are many causes and charities that are important to our associates. Though we focus most of our efforts on our assoicate-chosen Charities of Choice, we actively seek to raise awareness about a variety of causes in our communities and inspire others to join in support.

Each month, MJ selects a charitable organization to feature as a part of our Charity of the Month awareness campaign. We aim to harness the power of social media to spread the word about the organization and encourage our vast network of partners to get involved. We feature our Charity of the Month on our external website, intranet, in our offices and on our social media channels. Our Charity of the Month also receives brand exposure through a dedicated article on our blog, MJ Insight, to amplify their message.

PROVIDENCE CRISTO REY CORPORATE WORK STUDY PROGRAM
Located minutes from downtown Indianapolis, Providence Cristo Rey High School (PCRHS) is a private, collegepreparatory high school for students from families with limited financial means. Providence Cristo Rey combines rigorous classroom instruction with real-life corporate work study experiences for its students by partnering with the finest businesses and corporations in the Indianapolis area. The PCRHS Corporate Work Study program allows Providence Cristo Rey to make a faith-based, college preparatory education affordable to all students and families who could not otherwise afford a Catholic education.
By employing PCRHS students at MJ, we strive to provide them with real-life, professional experience, while also helping them understand how their current and future academic experiences can be applied. In doing so, we enter our relationship with them as young, naïve children and by the time they graduate, they are mature, respectful adults more prepared for the next step in their lives than most other graduates.
An unexpected, yet significant benefit of our involvement with the Corporate Work Study Program is the huge impact the students have on our associates’ hearts and minds. We currently employ two students who work in our Support Services department. We are honored and privileged to be involved with PCRHS and thank the students, faculty and all the Corporate Work Study partners for their commitment to making Indianapolis and the surrounding communities a place we are all proud of.
ASSOCIATE HIGHLIGHT
MJ’s Tricia Everhart plays a huge role in making our PCRHS Corporate Work Study program a success. Tricia serves as the career mentor for our students and played an integral role in helping the school navigate the work program throughout the pandemic. In 2021, Tricia received the inaugural Al Leighton Award, a new award created to recognize Career Mentors who go above and beyond to support their student workers and the Corporate Work Study Program as a whole.
When I was first presented the opportunity to host a student in the Support Services department, I was hesitant. It’s funny how things work out like that because now I can’t imagine my time here at MJ without the PCRHS program. Despite my hesitation, I've been blessed with affirmation that I'm doing exactly what I'm supposed to be doing. The sign that stands out to me the most is one student who was very quiet and hard to talk to. Then one day PCHRS brought in 8th grade students for what they call a Shadow Day. I told the student at the time, "Okay, you have to speak to these kids and tell them what you do here.” He proceeds to tell them what he does, and he said, "I work with Miss Tricia and, well, she's like a mom to me." I knew I was right where I was supposed to be.
When the pandemic struck, I knew that if we needed our students to work remotely, other organizations did too. I worked with the school and other corporate partners to ensure that the program was able to continue throughout the pandemic. Receiving the Al Leighton award was a great honor; however, for me, the greatest honor is working with the students, the school staff and the other corporate partners to ensure we are able to continue providing the best program for these kids.

PHOENIX CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL
Phoenix Children’s Hospital (PCH) is an organization very close to the hearts of many of our associates at MJ. We partner with PCH in a variety of ways. In 2022, we served as the co-presenting sponsor for the PCH Annual Golf Tournament. We have served as an event sponsor for over five years. Proceeds from the tournament help launch critical new programs, purchase essential equipment, conduct cutting-edge research and more. We are proud to support the hospital in this way and play our part in contributing to the over $8.2 million raised for children in the community.
Our involvement in the tournament has not been limited to an event sponsorship. In 2022, Pat Moore, an MJ Employee Benefits Consultant, served as Chair of the golf tournament. This wasn’t the first time an MJ associate served in this capacity as previously, Byron Shultz, Arizona VP Sales + Strategy, filled this position. We are extremely grateful to have such passionate associates who live our Purpose outside of the walls of MJ. Their involvement proves our culture and Purpose are more than just words and are truly something our associates embody.
In addition to our involvement with the golf outing, our Arizona-based associates are very active with PCH. Barry Goodrich, MJ’s Arizona Market President currently serves as the PCH50 President. PCH50 is a group of 50 driven community leaders who are serving as the next generation supporters of Phoenix Children’s Hospital through financial fundraising, volunteer efforts and awareness building.
In 2022, the MJ Foundation partnered with PCH to send 25 patients and their families to an Arizona Diamondbacks game. Each family received free admission to the game, free food and drink, a gift card to the MLB gift shop and a goodie bag. It was so rewarding to bring this experience to these families who are so deserving of a fun evening together.

PART 5 | OUR PLANET

FOCUSING ON OUR ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT
PAPERLESS AGENCY SINCE 2010

ENVIRONMENTAL RESPONSIBILITY
REDUCED COMMUTING EMISSIONS WITH HYBRID SCHEDULES

RECYCLABLE PAPER CUPS
We are aware that to live our Purpose of inspiring the success, fulfillment and wellbeing of each person we serve along with the communities in which we live and work, we must also be committed to the environment and protecting the planet for future generations. We recognize our role in contributing to a healthy environment which is why we are committed to sustainability and doing our part. At MJ, we never stop learning. We are dedicated to educating ourselves and our clients and partners on how we can reduce our carbon footprint. We are making progress in evaluating our risks and opportunities around environmental impact and incorporating ESG standards into our current and future projects.
DISHWASHERS IN AZ OFFICE

MOTION-CENSORED LIGHTS
INTERNAL SYSTEM FOR FILTERED WATER
MJ has been a paperless agency since 2010 and has since then eliminated the need for physical documents. Once we made this transition, we started noticing that other industry partners were making the transition as well. Not only to adjust to our new requirements but because they knew this is where the industry was headed. MJ has also replaced all Styrofoam singleuse cups with recyclable paper cups and has placed recycling bins in all common areas in both offices. In an effort to cut down on waste both in the office and externally, we also have provided associates with ceramic mugs and insulated tumblers to encourage associates to use these as an alternative to a single-use or
RESPONSIBLE PARTNERSHIPS
As a result of implementing our hybrid work schedule, we have been able to reduce our associates’ commuting emissions due to less frequent travel to and from the MJ offices. To ensure all associates can work a hybrid schedule and work comfortably from home, we have continued to offer our $500 home office stipend to all new MJ associates. We also have reduced our business travel emissions by approving virtual meetings as appropriate forms of communication both internally amongst colleagues and externally with clients and partners.
All our offices have motion-censored lights and an internal system for filtered water, making our energy consumption more efficient.
OUR FACILITIES
As we continue to grow and expand in new geographies, we will look to partner with sustainable developers when opening new office locations.
CAMELBACK CENTER, AZ
Our Phoenix office is in the Camelback Center—a Class A Office building that is setting the sustainability standard in the area. The building received the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED Gold Certification. Design features include the following:

+ Xeriscape landscaping
+ Stormwater management program
+ Water efficient fixtures
+ Parking for fuel-efficient vehicles
MONON BLVD, IN
Our Carmel office is in the heart of Carmel’s most successful redevelopments—Monon Boulevard and Midtown Plaza. With an integrated, high-performance landscape approach, the project’s design provides a regional stormwater collection function for the entire Midtown district. This eliminates the need for expensive drainage and promotes healthy tree growth. A canopy of 325 trees can be found on-site to offset carbon dioxide, intercept rainfall and conserve energy consumption by providing protection from weather conditions.
COLUMBINE ST, CO
We’ve chosen a different workplace model in our newest location to reduce our environmental impact. In our Denver, Colorado office we partner with neu.works, a co-working space provider. We chose this approach as we are just entering that market and do not currently need to lease an entire office space. We believe this approach lowers our environmental impact as we use less space and land based on our needs. This model will likely shift over the years based on our growth and recruiting efforts. When that shift occurs, we are committed to evaluating our office’s environmental impact, just as we have done for our other office locations. The coworking space is in a FitWel certified building. Fitwel was originally created by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Prevention and U.S. General Services Administration. The CDC remains the research and evaluation partner for Fitwel. The building has the following design features and internal programming:

+ Building-wide recycling program and education
+ Building-wide E-waste disposal service
+ LED lighting
+ Energy-efficient HVAC system
ENVIRONMENTAL COVERAGE AND COMPLIANCE
As our clients face increased regulatory scrutiny, we’re finding innovative ways to help them reduce their exposure(s) to ultimately experience more favorable ratings from insurance carriers. One example of this is through our advocacy and understanding of environmental insurance. As environmental claims continue to grow in frequency and severity, we advise our clients to assess their environmental impact and advocate for environmental insurance coverage. We help our clients identify the environmental risks specific to their industry and provide education on the proper coverage and risk mitigation techniques to better their risk portfolio. Environmental coverage protects our clients in the case of loss or damages resulting from unexpected releases of pollutants typically excluded in general liability and property insurance policies.
We serve as a partner for our clients in their times of need, and we recognize that to be the best partner, we must have a deep understanding of the climate risks and compliance laws they face. Whether that be as a partner for assessing the recommended environmental insurance coverage or being a resource when there’s a natural disaster, we are there to help during those high-stress times.
We are committed to staying up to date on the environmental compliance laws that could affect our clients.
In addition, we are dedicated to monitoring our own business activity as it relates to new regulations even if not federally required to do so. We believe we can make a positive environmental impact whether that be through helping our clients or through our own operations.
