I don’t consider myself an overly introspective or sentimental person, but this past year, I’ve found myself reflecting a lot. Maybe it’s because MJ recently celebrated its 60th year in business, or perhaps it’s the daily energy I draw from the incredible talent we have within our organization. Regardless, I’ve been thinking a lot about the future—about our 75th or 80th anniversaries—and what will make my father, our founder Mike M. Bill, and I proudest. After much reflection, I keep coming to the same conclusion: it’s the work we’ve done and the impact we’ve made on our people and our community.
This year, during our 60th anniversary celebration, one common theme echoed through the words shared by so many: a deep sense of connection and shared Purpose. And it made me proud. Because when we first formed MJ’s Purpose statement, it was done with intention. You hope it resonates, that it’s understood and embraced, but you can never be entirely sure it will. Today, I’m 100% certain it did. MJ exists to inspire the success, fulfillment, and wellbeing of each person we serve: our associates and their families, business partners, clients, and the community. This Purpose has become the foundation for a shared connection among the MJ team and those we serve.
In 2020, we created the MJ Foundation with the goal of fulfilling the latter part of our Purpose—to ensure that the communities in which we live are always at the forefront of our minds. We set out to be an intentional, active force for good: giving back to those who need us, forging partnerships that lift others up, and making a true difference.
When I spoke with my dad about our anniversary and his thoughts on his legacy, he didn’t hesitate for a moment: “Our people. Our people are what make MJ great and what make a difference.” I wholeheartedly agree. Without our people, we wouldn’t be where we are today. We wouldn’t have the MJ Foundation nor a report showcasing its impact—which I’m excited to share with you. We’ve had another record-breaking year in both associate engagement and community impact.
At my core, I believe that despite our busy lives, what truly brings us together is our shared Purpose and the belief that there are causes larger than ourselves. While that may seem daunting at times, I’m confident—and our Foundation proves—that when we come together with intention, no challenge is too big to overcome. When we unite, we make a difference. We may not always have the perfect solution, but we can bring people together, forge new connections, and build the bonds that truly matter.
So, as I lie awake at night thinking about where we’re headed and what kind of legacy we’ll all be proud of, I can say without hesitation that we’re on the right path. Through the connections we’ve made and our unwavering commitment to a shared goal—making our communities better than we found them—we have so much to be proud of.
It is with great honor that I invite you to read the 2024 MJ Foundation Impact Report.
Sincerely,
MICHAEL H. BILL Founder

MJ exists to inspire the success, fulfillment, and wellbeing of each person we serve: our associates and their families, business partners, clients, and our community. This is the Purpose that drives our organization, the work we do, and the way we do it.
It’s a statement that’s easy to understand. But it contains multitudes: If we take it literally, it affects not just the scores of people who work for MJ, or the thousands we support among our partners and clients, but the millions who make up the larger communities in which we live and work.
MJ has long been a committed community partner, and we’re always looking for ways to do more, make a greater difference, and improve the lives of the neighbors who need our help the most.
The MJ Foundation is a way for us to live our Purpose consciously and deliberately— to be an intentional, active force for good in the communities we call home.
To contribute $1MM to our communities in Greater Indianapolis, Phoenix, and Denver in our first 10 years of operation.
We work to break the cycle of generational poverty by supporting efforts to move people living with economic hardship from survival to success, hopelessness to fulfillment, and uncertainty to wellbeing.
We actively seek opportunities to advance the equity of people of color, members of the LGBTQ community, veterans, and others underrepresented in the risk management and benefits consulting industries, to advance their careers and create a richer, more diverse professional workforce.
We know that education can be a path to success in life. The MJ Foundation offers funding to educational institutions and students who need financial assistance as well as inspiration to pursue a fulfilling, noble career in risk management and benefits consulting.
We provide humanitarian support for both situational and endemic issues that challenge the communities we serve—from disaster relief to children’s healthcare and the overall wellbeing of families.
To best serve our communities, we take a more focused approach—concentrating on three local charities where we get actively involved in the charity itself. Every two years, our associates choose one charitable organization in each of our markets to support as our Charity of Choice. This is where we focus much of our time and resources. This year marked the halfway point of our cycle with our current Charities of Choice.
As part of our Charity of Choice program, each organization receives awareness and media exposure, a $5,000 grant from the MJ Foundation for each year of its participation ($10,000 total), and a Day(s) of Service with Team MJ associates. The Charity of Choice also receives a toolkit that includes its media calendar for the duration of the selection, as we believe a vital part of our partnership is raising awareness and spreading the word about the many worthy causes in our communities.
Dayspring Center is a vital lifeline for homeless families in Indianapolis. Operating as an emergency shelter 24/7, Dayspring provides families in crisis with essential needs like food, clothing, and shelter. Beyond immediate assistance, the center’s experienced case management team works closely with each family, creating personalized plans to address the root causes of homelessness. Their follow-up case management program ensures ongoing support when transitioning to more stable situations.
"After graduating from Butler University, I moved to downtown Indianapolis. When Dayspring was chosen as our Charity of Choice, I was shocked to realize that I drove past their shelter every day during my commute. I had lived in Indy for four years at that point and had no idea it was there or about the incredible work they were doing in the community. This realization bothered me—if I didn’t know about them, how many others didn’t? From my first interaction with the Dayspring team and the families they serve, I knew more people needed to hear about this organization and the vital role they play in addressing the homeless crisis facing the city. Since then, I’ve introduced many of my friends and family to Dayspring, helping build connections that can truly make a difference. From interacting with the families when serving dinner to planning a field day this summer with the children, as much of an impact as we’ve had on Dayspring, I believe the true impact has been made on me."

The Centers for Habilitation (TCH) is vital in supporting individuals with developmental or physical disabilities in Arizona. TCH provides the tools and opportunities for more than 23% of Arizona adults with disabilities to lead fulfilling lives. From offering life skills training to guiding individuals through career development for independent employment, TCH empowers Arizonians with disabilities to make choices, improve their abilities, and regain control over their lives.
"I enjoy helping others in need and giving back to the community. My favorite part is experiencing the gratitude and appreciation from those who we are helping; knowing that my time is making a difference in people’s lives, no matter how small or big that difference might be."

Women’s Bean Project is a Colorado-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit social enterprise committed to supporting women striving for lasting change in their lives. This organization believes in the transformative power of employment and envisions a future where barriers to job opportunities are eliminated. Through skill development and community support, the Bean Project helps women rediscover their talents and build the confidence necessary to join the workforce.
"Women’s Bean Project is an incredible organization with a powerful mission. The impact of training and work experience the women get through participating at the Bean truly changes their lives for the better and allows them to find work and live independently. Volunteering my time and raising money for the organization has been incredibly fulfilling."

Every month, we select a charitable organization to raise awareness about the cause and inspire others to join in support. We aim to harness the power of social media to spread the word about the organization and share with our vast network of community leaders how they can get involved. We feature our Charity of the Month on our website, employee intranet, on both digital and static signage in our offices, and on our social media channels. Our Charity of the Month also receives brand awareness through a dedicated article on our blog, MJ Insight, to amplify their message.
Our Charities of the Month are selected based on where our associates volunteer, causes they champion, and Charity of Choice nominations. We are pleased to know that our associates are involved in many great causes, and it is critical to us that we can support them when we can, while still honoring our focused approach to our Charities of Choice. Our Charity of the Month program is the perfect way to do that.
We are pleased to support our 2024 Charities of the Month:
One MJ is our united approach to helping our clients, associates, and organization grow and succeed by leveraging the full breadth of our shared capabilities. In a sense, we’re referring to utilizing our connections across the organization and harnessing the power of one united front. We’ve found that coming together is easy when there’s a common cause we can connect over.
That’s what we’re trying to accomplish with every service activity we host. It’s about coming together, making a difference, having fun, and meeting new people while doing it. Time and time again, we hear from our associates after a service activity that they met someone they didn’t know before and that they feel more engaged and connected both to MJ and to the team. As an organization, there is no better feeling or culture enhancer than that—which is why in 2024 we provided over 30 coordinated service opportunities across our markets.
Each year, it is critical for us that in addition to our smaller service opportunities we host one larger Day of Service at our Charities of Choice. We believe this is an opportunity for our associates to form a deeper connection with the organizations we serve. It is also an additional opportunity to prove the power of our Purpose when we come together to be an intentional, active force for good.
This year, associates had many formal and informal ways to support Dayspring. Our 2024 Day of Service with Dayspring took place over the summer during Dayspring’s Camp Discovery program. Each summer, Dayspring hosts a summer camp for the children living at Dayspring and for the families who have recently transitioned from living at the shelter. Childcare is an expense that could put many of these families back in an unfavorable financial situation, so Dayspring does what it can to alleviate this burden and give the kids a summer break that is safe, well-rounded, and fun
This summer, Team MJ planned and hosted a field day for the children during one of their summer camps. From relay races and badminton to temporary tattoos and a water balloon fight, the day kept both the kids and our associates active! To make the day even more special, one of our volunteer shifts included our summer intern cohort. It was great to be able to share with them what it means to work for a Purpose-driven organization and raise more awareness for Dayspring.

Arts and crafts are a critical way for individuals to show self-expression, have an emotional outlet, and develop a sense of pride. This extends even further for the individuals TCH serves. Creating artistic works for others to purchase and display in their homes and gardens helps give adults with disabilities a sense of purpose, pride, and personal responsibility. TCH’s Unique Boutique provides the individuals we support an opportunity to not only develop their artistic skills but give back to the greater good through doing so.
For our Arizona Day of Service, our Arizona team had the privilege of spending an afternoon with the TCH residents creating arts and crafts and playing games. Our Arizona interns, like our Indiana interns on their Day of Service, were also able to join. We aren’t sure who had more fun—our associates or the residents!
Women’s Bean Project is a unique nonprofit in that it is a food manufacturing business that is directly tied to its transitional employment program. There are many ways for our associates to get involved and serve at the Bean Project, and one of those ways is stepping directly onto the production line and packing boxes. The holiday season is the busiest time for the Bean Project, so for our Colorado Day of Service, our associates helped prep and fill gift boxes. Our goal is not to host events for the sake of it but to dedicate our time where it is truly needed and make a difference. This Day of Service was a great way to make a tangible impact and assist our Charity of Choice when they really needed us.
Volunteering with others creates a special bond. You’re able to work and connect with those you may not interact with daily all with the common goal of making a difference. This year, when we brought our associates from all three of our markets together for our first-ever Momentum Summit in Indianapolis, it was important to us to have plenty of opportunities for connection. What better way to do that than with a service activity at the home of the Indiana Pacers and Fever, Gainbridge Fieldhouse?
We partnered with Million Meal Movement to pack meals for food insecure Hoosiers. Once again proving the power of when we come together as an active force good, our associates packed a total of 27,000 meals in two hours that will benefit the 1 million people in Indiana who are unsure where their next meal will come from. It was nothing short of inspiring to have all 250 of our associates together, making a difference one meal at a time.
Our associates are encouraged to take up to two days of voluntary time off (VTO) annually to support an organization they are passionate about. It is of utmost importance to us that our associates can not only live out our Purpose through community support but can fulfill their personal Purpose by giving back where they are most passionate.
Education has long been an area of passion and focus for MJ, beginning with our founder Mike M. Bill and continuing through our current CEO, Mike H. Bill. With the belief that education is a stepping stone to a successful career in risk management and insurance, we have established a long-standing partnership with the Andre B. Lacy School of Business at Butler University. In an effort to diversify the industry and make formal education possible for those pursuing a noble career in risk management and insurance, we are proud to have established a $750,000 endowment supporting multicultural students with financial need in the Andre B. Lacy School of Business.
Each academic year, students receive the MJ Risk Management & Insurance Scholarship, which supports three of the four cornerstones of the MJ Foundation’s mission: advancing education, fostering diversity, and overcoming poverty. First preference for the scholarship is given to students majoring in risk management and insurance, with the goal of making the program more accessible to students of diverse backgrounds. Students awarded the scholarship may have limited financial means to advancing education.
We established the Foundation with the hope that we would make a difference at the organizations where our associates volunteer their time. While we have accomplished this objective, we were surprised by another piece that has come with that—the opportunity to learn about all the amazing work being done within our communities that we might not have known about before. With our second grant cycle, we were blown away by the inspiring work being done in our communities in alignment with our four pillars. This year, we were pleased to increase our grant amount and award $25,000 grants in each of our markets—Denver, Indianapolis, and Phoenix.
Aligning with our focused approach, we made a strategic decision to accept grant applications on an invite-only basis, as it is important to us that we support the causes that mean the most to our associates. We invited nonprofits where our associates volunteer their time, former Charities of Choice, and our chosen Charities of the Month.
We were overwhelmed with gratitude by the response and number of applications we received. For our grant cycle, we invited 60 nonprofits across Indianapolis, Phoenix, and Denver, as well as some nationwide organizations, and received 46 application submissions. We received so many inspiring applications, but the three recipients truly distinguished themselves with their unique missions. These nonprofits align with not only the pillars of the Foundation but our Purpose as well.
ActivateWork’s mission is to connect diverse, qualified talent to leading IT employers through rigorous skills training, community resources, and professional and life skills coaching. The organization believes that employment is a key driver of economic mobility, and that evidencebased training and upskilling programs are a highly effective counterpart to traditional educational pathways to help diverse individuals and families stabilize and advance. Our grant is used to provide technical and durable skills training for learners, launch graduates into IT careers, and help individuals and families transition to stable employment, advance, and overcome poverty.
ActivateWork’s commitment to advancing education and overcoming poverty stood out during the grant process. As a data-driven firm ourselves, we deeply admire ActivateWork for helping marginalized groups find and sustain employment in such a high-demand field. ActivateWork graduates experience a 2x increase in annual earnings, from an average income of $26,733 at enrollment to an average of $50,892 at employment, representing a total annual earnings power of $6.5 million in 2025.
Saving Amy is a grassroots nonprofit organization that began in 2015 with programming to permanently break the cycle of homelessness. Its mission is to help families achieve self-sufficiency to remain housed and employed. Today, Saving Amy has a 100% success rate, with all Saving Amy families continuing to live in their own homes and contributing positively to society. Saving Amy accredits this success to their holistic approach. Working with families for three years to fully support their transition to everyday life and develop their emotional, academic, social, and career skills, Saving Amy truly transforms these individuals through its programming.
Our grant will support two to three families as they begin their path to self-sufficiency. Families will learn life skills and career coaching, begin therapy, have programming for their children, and receive support in the form of a vehicle and an opportunity to move out of a low-income neighborhood into a furnished, subsidized apartment. We love the approach taken by Saving Amy, as they embrace humanity with everyone they serve. When your wellbeing is prioritized on the inside, it impacts your outward life as well. We applaud Saving Amy for taking care of each family as a whole and can’t wait to see their impact grow.
Dayspring Center is dedicated to providing emergency shelter, clothing, nourishment, and resources for homeless families with children in Central Indiana. Its mission is to provide a loving and supportive environment, guiding its families toward self-sufficiency and stability. It is important to note that Dayspring is the only homeless shelter in Central Indiana that keeps the whole family unit together regardless of gender, age, and family make-up. We believe this level of inclusion is critical for those experiencing homelessness, especially given that the average age of people experiencing homelessness is just eight years old. Our grant will be used to provide programmatic support to Dayspring’s Children Services, which offers afterschool tutoring, therapeutic activities, arts and crafts, birthday celebrations, and its summer camp, Camp Discovery. We are thrilled to continue to support Dayspring as they provide these critical services to children who are experiencing homelessness.
Keeping the momentum going after celebrating our 60th anniversary, we wanted to provide an additional way for our associates to connect over a common cause. As we headed into the holiday season, we launched the second MJ Foundation Month of Giving, a month-long charitable campaign designed to meet our associates where they’re at, providing a variety of ways to live our Purpose and give back.
The Month of Giving was specifically designed to bring our associates together across all three of our office locations together to make an even greater impact. After all, we are stronger when we come together as an intentional, active force for good. With hands-on experiences, charitable donations, and drives, we provided an opportunity for everyone! From donating over $33,000 to volunteering for more than 100 hours, the Month of Giving was an astounding success!

One of the most rewarding parts of running the MJ Foundation is learning about all the amazing work being done in our communities. We’ve found a lot of overlap in causes—and a lot of opportunity for one nonprofit to connect with another to fulfill both of their missions. We love serving as a connector for the organizations we support.
At our 2023 Benefit at the Brickyard Golf Outing and annual MJ Foundation fundraiser, Executive Director Britni Shrout had the opportunity to connect with a Camptown Board Member who then connected her with Brett Freeman, the executive director of Camptown. During their conversation, Brett invited the MJ Foundation team to visit Camptown’s office to learn more about the youth programs they offer in Indiana. As Brett explained how Camptown uses outdoor adventures to challenge, mentor, and teach young people, helping them build confidence, character, and hope, we were immediately inspired.
One idea that quickly came to mind was bringing a fun, nature-filled day to the kids at Dayspring Center during Camp Discovery. Brett and the Camptown team were excited about the idea, and together we were able to sponsor a “Natural Wonders Camp Discovery Day” for the kids at Dayspring. Camptown organized activities like fishing and canoeing (which were huge hits!), and members of Team MJ joined in the fun, connecting with the kids while enjoying the outdoors.
For many of the kids at Dayspring, this was their first time visiting a state park, let alone canoeing, fishing, or having a water gun fight on the water! The joy and excitement that day brought were truly fulfilling and rewarding. It was a powerful reminder of the impact of collaboration, as the MJ Foundation, Camptown, and Dayspring worked together to fulfill our shared Purpose.
Our 2023 Indiana grant recipient Indy Book Project aims to provide books to ALL children, birth through high school, who otherwise may not have books in their homes. As we met and talked through the causes the Foundation supports, we immediately recognized a need that could be fulfilled by both Indy Book Project and Dayspring Center. Typically, when children arrive at Dayspring, they don’t have much. This includes something to call their own, like a book. Many children also spend their birthday at the shelter and would just like something that is theirs. The Indy Book Project immediately recognized the part they could play and provided the shelter with brand-new books. Their gift ensures kids arriving at the shelter have something that is theirs—a book to take solace in and escape into. Now, when the shelter needs books for a birthday gift or for new families, they have a connection they can rely on, and we are so happy to have been able to help establish a partnership that will extend far beyond our grant and Charity of Choice cycle.
One of the many contributing factors to our Foundation’s success is having like-minded partners who value giving back. We were fortunate enough to play in a golf tournament hosted by one of our valued carrier partners, Chubb. The Chubb Charity Challenge is an annual golf tournament that raises funds for local charities across North America. Agents, brokers, and clients form teams and play in local tournaments organized by Chubb’s nearby branch offices. Each team plays on behalf of a local charity of their choosing. At the end of the day, a donation is made to each nonprofit with the dollar amount dependent on how the team places in the tournament. In 2024, we played for local nonprofit Indiana Diaper Bank. This organization is a cause close to the hearts of many at MJ, as one in every two families struggles to afford diapers in Indiana. We were thrilled to be able to award Indiana Diaper Bank with a donation of $850 and are incredibly thankful for Chubb for providing the opportunity.
It is a true privilege to do business with organizations that understand the importance of giving back to the communities in which we live and work. Our associates’ passion in making these connections is even more inspiring. This year, one of our consultants, Rob Baumgartner, brought forth a grant opportunity between our carrier partner West Bend Insurance Company and Dayspring Center. The Independent Agents’ Fund and the Spirit of the Silver Lining Award were created for nonprofit organizations served by our independent insurance agents. Grants from the fund are aimed at bettering these organizations and improving the lives of those served by them. Thanks to Rob’s passion and commitment to serving our Charities of Choice and West Bend’s commitment to giving back, Dayspring was awarded a $5,000 grant! We couldn’t be happier with being able to make this connection for Dayspring. We would also like to recognize Sarah Hanson, learning and development manager, as well as Ryan Daniele, senior vice president of strategic marketing for their help in securing these crucial funds for Dayspring.
Our grant cycle and financial contributions to our communities are only possible because of the support from our partners and associates. One way the MJ Foundation raises money is through our annual fundraiser events, where business partners and community members come together to have fun and raise money. Our events bring people together to fundraise for a common cause and support local nonprofits through donations and grants.
This year we hosted our largest fundraiser to date—Benefit at the Brickyard. Held at the renowned Brickyard Crossing golf course in Indianapolis, the event brought together over 100 industry partners, employees, and friends, and raised over $135,000 through a fun-filled golf scramble.
From a hole-in-one car giveaway, to a cannon launcher, to spending time with individuals who are committed to making an impact in their communities, the event was a resounding success. We extend our heartfelt appreciation to our sponsors including, Ennabl, RT Specialty, Anthem, Westfield, Stealth Partner Group, HealthJoy, Leaf Software Solutions, Independent Senior Insurance, CNA, Truescripts, Constangy, Brooks, Smith & Prophete, LLP, New York Life, Paylocity, Amerisure, and Travelers for their invaluable support in making this event possible. Their partnership enables us to put our Purpose into action and make a greater difference in the communities we call home.
For our annual Foundation fundraiser in Phoenix, we hosted families at Phoenix Zoo. In partnership with Valley of the Sun United Way and Phoenix Zoo, the MJ Foundation raised more than $45,000. A portion of these funds were used to host families supported by Valley of the Sun United Way for a day of fun at the zoo. Nearly 550 guests attended and spent the day enjoying the animals, time with family, and the sunshine.
Amy Bittner, vice president of business + community development in our Denver office, has been a cornerstone of the Denver community, recognized for her long-standing dedication to supporting causes that drive the city's progress. With a passion for expanding career opportunities for neurodivergent individuals, Amy was part of the founding of Colorado’s Neurodiversity Chamber of Commerce (CNDCC), the first and only of its kind in the nation. Leveraging both her experience serving on a board that supported the autism community with her business development acumen, Amy helped CNDCC hit the ground running—and boy did they! Since its founding in 2022, CNDCC has seen huge growth and success, all due to the connections the group has been able to make between employers and resources to support neurodivergent individuals.
I am passionate about helping to remove barriers to employment for people who can, should, and want to work and partnering with organizations that help to remove those barriers. Making Colorado a great place to do business is very attractive to me. Neurodivergent employees offer a great deal of value to the workforce and bring a unique skill set that has been proven to improve the financial bottom line. That being said, retaining and attracting talent from this population has some challenges, so by having a chamber of commerce that is committed to identifying and breaking down those barriers, organizations can tap into a talent pool previously overlooked.
"In the fall of 2024, the CNDCC hosted an Impact Breakfast, sponsored by MJ. Three organizations—1st Bank, Denver International Airport, and The Denver Zoo—presented case studies that covered projects they had done through the CNDCC to address the needs of their neurodiverse population. From adjusting the hiring and onboarding process to providing some specific manager training, it was powerful to see the measurable impact that small investments around inclusion can make. When people are correctly supported at work and valued for the outcomes they produce, the individual, company, industry, and community benefit.
— Amy Bittner, Vice President, Business + Community Development
Rebecca Sterchi, employee benefits consultant in our Indianapolis office, is passionate about giving back and is an active force in our community. From supporting organizations like Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Indiana, Little Red Door Cancer Agency, Best Buddies International, Indy Hygiene Hub, Indiana Diaper Bank, American Red Cross, Like a Lion, Prevail Inc. of Hamilton County, American Legion Adopt a Family, Adopt-A-Park, and Indy Book Project, Rebecca is proof that you can always find time to give back to causes bigger than yourself.
I am a firm believer in shared experiences and becoming involved in your community. I am thankful to work for an organization like MJ that prioritizes service. It’s reflected not only in our Purpose but by the actions of our team members every day. I am passionate about serving because I believe in the power of connection. I’ve seen the impact we can have when we contribute to something with a larger mission. Serving not only allows me to give back to the community but also provides a foundation to instill in my children the importance and rewards of community involvement. We have served as a family at the Indiana Diaper bank—bundling diapers and loading them into trucks for distribution across Indiana. The Indiana Diaper bank distributes 60,000 diapers a month to those in need via nonprofits serving our communities. Indiana has the second highest cost of diapers nationwide. Indiana taxes diapers as personal luxury item, and one out of two families struggle with the cost of diapers. When you can’t afford diapers, you can’t send your child to daycare. You can’t work. As a mother of four, I am very familiar with the cost of diapers. I am proud to support efforts that address this critical need.
"In 2019, I joined the National Charity League with my daughters. The National Charity League is a nationwide organization where mothers and daughters serve their communities together, focusing on philanthropy, cultural experiences, and leadership development. It’s been a wonderful way to give back and share meaningful experiences. Recently, we’ve become very involved with Indy Hygiene Hub, an organization that provides essential hygiene items to over 150 families monthly in Central Indiana. Over the past few years, I’ve gotten to know the founder, Christina Huffines, whose passion for the organization’s mission is inspiring. Seeing the lack of access to personal hygiene items such as toothpaste and toothbrushes, is one of the reasons my older daughter aspires to become a dentist and serve communities in need. A standout moment for me was when my daughters and I helped provide personal hygiene items for hurricane relief efforts in North Carolina. Serving side by side with them in this way has been an incredibly fulfilling highlight.
— Rebecca Sterchi, Employee Benefits Consultant
Sean Evans, employee benefits consultant in our Arizona office, recognizes the impact of giving back to causes greater than oneself and the collective strength that comes from doing so alongside like-minded individuals. In 2023, Sean became a member of Thunderbirds Charities, a nonprofit organization focused on supporting children and families, helping those in need, and improving the quality of life in the Greater Phoenix Metropolitan Area. Being part of The Thunderbirds is both an honor and a privilege, and we at MJ are incredibly proud of Sean’s accomplishment.
Membership in The Thunderbirds is exclusive, limited to just 55 members, all of whom demonstrate a strong interest in sports and a deep commitment to community affairs. Each year, The Thunderbirds host the Waste Management Phoenix Open, one of the largest sporting events in the world. Sean has had the honor of serving on the House and Grounds group for the tournament, and in 2026, he will take on the role of chairman for that group.
Every year, we aim to host the best tournament in sports and raise as much money as possible for charity. This past year, we celebrated over $208 million in charitable giving in our history. Though I’ve only been part of that for a small time, I’ve seen firsthand where the money goes and how it impacts our community. We’re building hospitals, creating housing for patients, and supporting countless organizations across the Valley. It’s an incredibly special thing! I feel fortunate and proud to be part of The Thunderbirds and to have the opportunity to make a real difference in my community.
When reflecting on his time with The Thunderbirds, Sean recalls volunteering at the Special Olympics Arizona Summer Games as one of the most impactful experiences he's had.
Interacting with these athletes, seeing them give everything they’ve got, and then being able to place medals around their necks as they stood on the podium—there’s nothing quite like it. The excitement and pride they felt were so special, and it’s an event I’ll never miss. Another highlight for me was announcing our record-breaking charitable donation of over $17.5 million from the 2024 WM Phoenix Open. I didn’t fully understand the financial impact we’ve had in our community until that moment. We presented the check for $17,521,024 at the new Thunderbirds Charities Pediatric Burn Unit, and the funds were distributed among Arizona charities supporting children and families in need. It was a night I’ll never forget!
The work it takes to run a foundation should not be underestimated. We would not be where we are today or be making the impact we are making without our amazing associates who help run and oversee the foundation. We are proud that the MJ Foundation is 100% run and led by our associates, who volunteer and donate their time. Thank you for going above and beyond, fulfilling our Purpose, and being intentional, active forces for good.
