Everything in the forest is the forest photobook

2025

A handmade biodegradable photobook created with responsibly sourced natural materials, including mushroom paper by Danielle Phelps, oak gall ink by Carolyn Morton, and linen thread spun by Alice Fox and grown in her allotment in Bradford. The book is designed by Emily Macaulay. The photobook consists of 12 parts, each a self-contained ‘mini-book’ offering its own experience, while forming part of a connected whole. This modular design is inspired by the richness of relationships found in the forest. It enables the work to be shared and dispersed more widely, fostering collective engagement in different spaces, contexts and communities.

Some of the lumen prints in this book were created by people living near the trees during the Covid lockdowns. The others, made by Clare Hewitt, depict just a handful of over eight million leaves produced by the twelve oaks each year.

The book contains a collaborative text by writers Marchelle Farrell, Kerri ní Dochartaigh, and Jessica J. Lee.
