TechHub pre-accelerator is very excited to present the graduates of the 5th cohort. After three months of intense acceleration, startups are ready to present their progress at the Demo Day #5 event, which will take place during the LOGIN conference. You can also learn about what kind of solutions they offer and the problems they solve in this brochure.

With the graduation of these startups, we mark 110 companies that finished this program; so far they managed to attract the funding worth the total of more than 5 mln. Eur. This is a lot, in our opinion, since this program only helps them to make the confident first steps towards their entrepreneurial journey. We also see a huge demand for this kind of program in the market as we are only able to accept one-fifth of all applicants. We couldn’t do it without a great team of mentors, our partners (Hostinger, TGS Baltics, Glimstedt, Google, Metida, NFQ), and investors, who continuously share their time and knowledge to help the startups grow.

Most importantly, the program wouldn’t exist without our participants. In this cohort we had 25 determined startups ready to graduate. They consist of more than 60 members, developing solutions in various fields: MedTech, Psychology, Biotechnology, Logistics, IT, Gaming and more. This is the biggest amount of graduates we had so far, and – acceleration is hard work, it takes time, knowledge and commitment, but, most importantly – courage and dedication to pursue your passions. So, keep believing in yourself and don’t stop working on dreams!

PROBLEM: Biotechnology enables us to conduct research, improve our health and create better foods, fuels, and new materials.

To achieve this, scientists create synthetic DNA molecules, called plasmids. DNA plasmid can be represented as a sequence of genetic information or a long word.

After this molecule is constructed, its correct sequence has to be verified (sequenced). This step is boring, time and reagents consuming as well as tedious. This needs to be done routinely in every biotech laboratory working with gene editing or protein synthesis.

SOLUTION: We are offering a plasmid sequencing service that eliminates the pains that our customers have when using different sequencing platforms. We are using only recently emerged sequencing method and adapt it to plasmids sequencing.

Technical details of this method allow us to provide more information about samples in shorter time and with simpler sample preparation.

We are in need of 200k EUR to upgrade our laboratory capacity from research setting to commercial scale. Our plan is to take a Eastern European market in 1 year.

OUR CLIENT: Our clients are biotechnology scientists working with plasmids. Currently, there are more than 60 000 biotech companies worldwide, about one 3rd of them are working with plasmids. We estimate that we can reach 5 % of this market.

Given the market pressure, our service cost will be up to 20 EUR per sample, generating about 4 M EUR per year. VU GMC BTI is our first collaborator to check method feasibility.

We also have verbal agreements with 2 different institutes as well as a biotech company.

MAIN COMPETITORS: Most competitors fall under two categories with obvious downsides.

Some use the old method and provide little information, while others are too costly for the user. We currently have only a single comparable competitor that is US-based. We plan to outcompete it by providing extra information about the sample together with simplified sample preparation.

PROBLEM: The need to get an effective and quick help from the community to solve professional or personal questions. For example, the accountants’ community encounters this need more often and thus is our target auditory.

We want to create a platform for community mutual help. Its structure would be dedicated to connect the involved people fast and efficiently.

Our upcoming milestone is to validate our idea by creating Talkon prototype and testing it with a test group. On our own we plan to achieve this until September. The prototype now is on the second half of finalization.

If you believe in and like the idea, we invite you to contribute already now. The initial contribution of 10k Eur would already allow us to achieve a result faster and more qualitatively. We also need a professional programmer (Julia language). And, of course, your ideas, suggestions and experience.

The Talkon platform will have inner value system (tokens). On every request for a help the participant will have to transfer tokens to helper and platform.

People will be able to purchase tokens from Talkon. Tokens will also be used for inviting new users.

The idea author Tadas Surkys is a researcher of cognitive neuroscience, understanding the principles of human cognition and behavior that helps to look for the best solutions to make the platform effective.

Dana Indane-Surkiene’s competencies are related to communication and project management. We get much support from business consulting and accountancy company Light Financials.

OUR CLIENT: The clients are various communities, in particular – accountants, because we got a very positive response from interviewed accountants. We would target Baltic states, Poland and Slovakia that have 250 000 accountants. Now we are focusing on creating a prototype in order to verify our assumptions.

MAIN COMPETITORS: The competitors are Discord, Slack, Zulip and other platforms that have functionality to connect community for mutual help, but none of them focusses on a quick connection.

B2C. We will suggest the device which will show the answer about gluten – Yes or No. Furthermore, we will recommend a subscription – with the exact amount of gluten, showing gluten-free catering places on the map nearby, weekly gluten-free meal plans, etc.

PROBLEM: It is estimated that 1 of 3 Europeans do not tolerate gluten.

While people consume glutencontained products, even the smallest amount of gluten causes the disease to get worse.

Therefore, gluten intolerant people are avoiding to eat in the public places: restaurants, cafes, schools, even kindergartens, and avoid traveling. Unfortunately, today there is no quick and effective way to detect the presence/absence of gluten in the food.

SOLUTION: A personal biosensor, which quickly detects the presence/ absence of gluten in food, and helps to prevent unpleasant symptoms. Innosensus gluten indicator will be: 1) Effective: provides a quick (within seconds) response to the presence of gluten in a meal; 2) Convenient: easy to fit in a pocket or handbag; 3) Non-challenging: reusable, simple, not medical device.

Moreover, it will be the 1st gluten detection with biosensor – electrochemical technology.

OUR CLIENT: Out Target customers: * 1-3% of population have the celiac disease; * ±30-50% of people are unable to process gluten properly, and it can lead to many unpleasant symptoms.

Our first target market to enter – Finland, because there are the highest incidence with celiac disease (2,4 %) in Europe.

SOLUTION: We are creating a tech assisted health and wellness studio chain for sedentary populations, aimed at increasing healthspan and longevity, at any adult age.

We are designing a time efficient automated process for initial client screening, programming for training, ongoing progress assessments and exercise individualisation based on their current health and fitness status.

A different approach to logistics FIELD: Road transport

PROBLEM: The main problem we are focusing on is downtime of trucks in logistics companies.

Currently, there are 500 000 trucks at downtime in European Union and, in terms of our target market, the total number of trucks being not in active usage in Baltic States and Poland equals 178 000.

Following these statistics, truck driver shortage, which makes 400 000 drivers in European Union, is another important issue deriving from the previously discussed downtime.

BUSINESS MODEL:

SOLUTION: We are introducing an interactive truck driver exchange platform, ensuring continous movement of trucks and the attraction of truck drivers under favorable conditions. The route map in our platform has 50 driver exchange sites, with distance of 200-300 kilometres between them.

Currently, according to legislations, truck drivers are allowed to drive for maximum of 9 hours after what they have to rest for 11 hours and only after that continue the trip. What we offer is that after the 9 hour truck driver passes freight delivery to another driver in the exchange site, meaning that freight is delivered uninterruptedly.

In the third quater of the year 2022, we expect to get initial funding of 40 000 euros which will be used for partial automation and testing of the system with 35-50 drivers from Baltic States and Poland. In the end of the year, we would want to own long-term funds equal to 250 000 euros which would be divided in the following way. 40 000 will be used for the launch of interactive platform, 30 000 euros for team remuneration, 140 000 euros to attract 200 drivers and 40 000 euros for marketing expenses. What is more, some of the funds could be used for market expansion in Denmark and France.

OUR CLIENT: Our main clients are logistics companies which face downtime of trucks problem.

In terms of market size, we are putting emphasis on countries of Baltic States as well as Poland where accumulatively 178 000 trucks are at downtime. However, for the beginning, we would obtain serviceable obtained market which stands for 5% of mentioned trucks in our target area.

Predictably, in 48 months 8 900 trucks should bring 1 780 000 euros of profit.

Our business model is based on B2B approach – the main focus is directed towards cooperation with logistics companies. There are three ways of how our transportation idea would make money. First of all, one truck is expected to bring 200 euros per month. Secondly, some profit would be made from hourly price of truck driver’s work. Lastly, an interactive platform has the fee for usage.

MAIN COMPETITORS: There are no direct competitors in the transportation market.

However, logistics companies are considered as indirect ones over whom we have a significant advantage. Our interactive platform ensures continuous movement of trucks while competitive companies provide only partial.
