Be Your Own Advocate: Helping Women Proactively Take Control of Their Own Health

My community service initiative focuses on empowering women with the knowledge and resources they need to be leading members of their own healthcare teams. This includes teaching basic anatomical terms and common diseases, stressing the importance of yearly checkups and mammograms, and showing the importance of knowing what is normal for them so they know when they should reach out to a care provider to receive help.

WHAT DOES SCHOLARSHIP MEAN TO YOU?

Scholarship is one of my favorites of the 5 pillars. An educated woman is an empowered woman. Thus, one of the biggest ways we can empower women is making sure they have the opportunity to receive as much education as they are able to. Scholarships from the Miss America Organization are a driving force in that effort. It allows women to pursue their passions and turn their dreams into reality.

WHAT DOES SUCCESS MEAN TO YOU?

The Miss America Organization sets women up for success. Through promoting the development of talents, public speaking skills, and encouraging community engagement, this program gives women the tools they need to be successful in whatever they decide to pursue. I know that I am better prepared to succeed in both medical school interviews and my future career as a doctor because I was involved in the Miss America Organization.
