Rooted in the Catholic faith and tradition, Holy Trinity Catholic Middle School proudly celebrates its 30th year of excellence in Catholic education, preparing its students to excel academically, lead with compassion, serve others and boldly live their faith.

Located on picturesque Park Road in beautiful Charlotte, North Carolina, Holy Trinity’s campus once served as the home of Charlotte Catholic High School. Along with its five Charlotte-area Catholic elementary schools, Holy Trinity Catholic Middle School and Charlotte Catholic High School have provided a long legacy of PK-12th grade Catholic education for the Charlotte community. The gift of Catholic education in Charlotte owes much to the Sisters of Mercy, whose vision and dedication established a vibrant tradition of faith-based learning that continues today and lives on in the Mercy Education Center, the hub of the Holy Trinity campus.

As the only standalone Catholic middle school in the Southeast, Holy Trinity is renowned for its community spirit, where students truly feel they belong and can thrive academically, spiritually, and personally. Anchored in a rich Catholic faith life, Holy Trinity cultivates a culture of collaboration, respect, and mutual support, fostering an environment where 1,040 students are inspired to deepen their faith, broaden their knowledge, and grow in virtue, all while embracing the call to live and learn in Christ

Summary of Position

Holy Trinity seeks a faithful, dynamic, and compassionate leader to serve as Principal and guide the school into an exciting future. Beginning in the 2025-2026 school year, Holy Trinity will transition to a President/Principal leadership model, followed by its rebranding as Holy Trinity Catholic Academy in the 2026-2027 academic year. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a deep understanding of Catholic education, a commitment to academic excellence and spiritual formation, and the ability to foster a thriving community united by shared faith and values.

Collaborating cohesively with school leadership, including the President and the Boys’ and Girls’ Division Heads, will be essential to ensuring this transformation’s success. The Principal will also work closely with a dedicated team of educators and staff to inspire students to become virtuous disciples of Jesus Christ, striving for excellence in intellect, heart, and soul.

Together with the President, the Principal will provide visionary leadership, ensuring Holy Trinity’s mission of academic excellence, spiritual formation, and community engagement is fully realized. The Principal will foster a cohesive and faith-centered environment by working collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, and parents. Partnering with the school’s President and the Diocese to oversee major campus renovations.

Collaborating with stakeholders to ensure a successful rebranding to Holy Trinity Catholic Academy.

Embracing and guiding the school community through the new administrative organizational structure. Academic Excellence:

Leading faculty in implementing and refining best practices for single-gender education. Advancing the development of the Academic Achievement and Options program for special needs students.

Qualifications

The next Principal of Holy Trinity Catholic Middle School will possess the following qualifications and characteristics:

Faith and Values:

An enthusiastic, practicing Catholic who is in full communion with the Church and deeply rooted in their faith.

A Christ-centered servant leader who embodies, champions, and models the traditions and values of Catholic education.

Committed to fostering the Catholic identity of the school in all areas of campus life and programming.

Leadership and Experience:

A minimum of three years of school administrative or leadership experience, preferably in a Catholic school, combined with relevant middle/high school classroom teaching experience.

A Master’s degree or higher in Educational Administration or a comparable field, with eligibility for North Carolina state certification.

Proven ability to lead an innovative and academically rigorous curriculum that ensures success for all students while advancing the mission of Catholic education.

Demonstrated success in mentoring, professional and catechetical development, and evaluation of faculty and staff.

Skilled in identifying, attracting, developing, and retaining high-quality educators passionate about delivering a transformational Catholic educational experience.

Expectations of Conduct:

The mission of the Diocese of Charlotte Catholic Schools is to form students to be virtuous disciples of Christ with eternal salvation as the ultimate goal. All employees are an essential part of this mission and are truly and in a very real sense engaged in a special ministry, or apostolate, of the Roman Catholic Church. Those who publicly represent the Church as employees have a special obligation and responsibility to “exemplify the ethics and integrity lived and taught by Jesus, so that all those we serve will see in us His compassion and love.” (Code of Ethics Policy of the Diocese of Charlotte, p. 2)

Summary of Position

The Principal supports and implements the President’s vision for the school in alignment with the Catholic School Office and Bishop Michael Martin’s vision for the diocesan educational mission of the school.

Executes policies and administrative regulations in the area of assignments; assumes administrative responsibility and instructional leadership in the school; supports the Directors of the Boys’ and Girls’ Divisions in their responsibilities; has ultimate responsibility for planning, operating, supervising and evaluating the educational program, and articulating the vision for the school.

Is responsible for the leadership and the administration of the Catholic school which seeks to offer high quality academic programs that are integrated with religious truths and values; is connected to the unique program of single-sex education; provides opportunities for students to be prepared for life in today’s Church and society through a strong basic and contemporary curriculum and through instruction and formation in the beliefs, values and traditions of Catholic Christianity.

Administrative tasks include: (1) organization of the school so that appropriate learning can take place; (2) development of a competent faculty and staff; (3) development of a balanced curriculum; (4) provision for safety, welfare, and care of students while they are attending school; (5) coordination of physical facilities; (6) management of financial and business affairs of the school with the region; (7) development of good school-community relationships; (8) immersion of the Catholic faith and spirituality through liturgy, daily prayer, religion classes, and daily practices

The expectations for achieving the above tasks are the following:

General Responsibilities:

A. Administers the school according to Diocesan and local policies.

B. Gives leadership for achieving the goals of Catholic education.

C. Evidences knowledge of Catholic philosophy of education.

D. Supports and nurtures a Christian community within the school.

E. Provides opportunity for liturgical expression and experience for staff and students.

F. Maintains a two-way communication with school clientele.

G. Demonstrates respect for individuals and fairness in dealing with others.

H. Oversees SACS accreditation and renewal process.

I. Exemplifies strong interpersonal skills with the school community

Responsibilities to Diocesan Superintendent:

A. Coordinates efforts of the school with the philosophy of the Diocesan school system as outlined by the Superintendent.

B. Maintains a record system and makes reports as required.

C. Appraises and evaluates the instructional program and reports findings.

D. Demonstrates responsibility and accountability for the position.

Responsibilities to Local School Board:

A. Works cooperatively with President.

B. Works cooperatively with Local School Board and Diocesan Superintendent.

C. Makes periodic written and oral reports about the school to the Superintendent and to the School Board and President.

Responsibilities

to President:

A. Works cooperatively with President, and with all Clergy within System.

B. Assists the President in establishing the strategic priorities that impact student life and the operations of the school.

C. Ensures the religious purpose of the school is immersed in the life of the school.

D. Implements programs that stimulate religious growth for school community.

E. Demonstrates responsibility and accountability.

F. Works closely and cooperatively with supporting Parish/es.

Responsibilities

to Faculty:

A. Hires and assigns teachers in accord with Diocesan and state policies.

B. Is responsible for the supervision of the instructional program and works cooperative with the faculty in the accomplishment of this function.

C. Assists the Head of the Boys’ and Girls’ Divisions in understanding and advancing the total school culture for both divisions.

D. Provides in-service workshops whenever the opportunity or need arises during the course of the school year.

E. Holds regular faculty meetings, at least one per month.

F. Holds regular leadership meetings with the President and Heads of the Division, recommended weekly.

G. Visits classes periodically to coordinate total curriculum.

H. Works with the Division Heads to assure planning periods are appropriately included in the daily schedule

I. Provides textbooks, materials, and supplies for each classroom.

J. Encourages systematic and well-developed lesson plans, especially assuring consistency in curricular expectations and assessment of learning in the two Divisions

K. Maintains accurate personnel files that include records of all sick leave, emergency leave, observations, and evaluations.

L. Is available to teachers for consultation when needed

M. Is knowledgeable about professional certification.

N. Supervises and evaluates professional and support staff.

O. Understands and encourages a variety of teaching and learning styles specifically as they relate to single-sex education.

Responsibilities to Students:

A. Establishes, with the faculty, a curriculum that meets the needs of individual students and is connected to the unique needs of each Division

B. Administers school policy relating to the admission and assignment of present and/or incoming students.

C. Oversees all student activity in the school, including athletic activities, assembly programs, and social programs.

D. Prepares student rosters at the beginning of each school year.

E. Establishes guidelines, enforces the discipline policy of the school, and assures consistency in disciplinary actions between the Divisions.

F. Plans, conducts and reports fire and safety drills in accordance with adopted policies.

G. Enforces immunization and other health requirements set by the State Department of Health and sees that health records are maintained and kept up-to-date.

H. Establishes and makes known routine for handling student sickness and accidents.

Responsibilities to Parents:

A. Establishes and maintains on-going communication between school and home.

B. Directs appropriate concerns to teacher and Heads of Divisions to assure subsidiarity of decision making and proper grievance procedures

C. Schedules and participates in, when advisable, parent conferences.

D. Schedules conference for parents to meet teachers at periodic times of the year.

E. Encourages and cooperates with organizations dedicated to the improvement of the school.

F. Designates someone to work with the news media in releasing information on a regular basis concerning school activities.

G. Establishes and communicates procedures for hearing complaints and suggestions from school parents.

H. Is available for conference by appointment.

I. Develops and maintains public relations with and among appropriate publics.

The Principal’s Leadership of and Service to the Parent Teacher Organization and Other School Related Organizations:

The principal gives direction to the Parent-Teacher Organization and other School-Related Organizations and is an ex-officio member of the executive committee of each organization.

A. Formulates, with the School-Related Organization president, the Executive Board’s agenda and Budget

B. Works together with the School-Related Organization to identify the short and long-term goals reflective of the input of the faculty, staff and parents.

C. Is a signer on all School-Related Accounts, per Diocesan Guidelines.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will be a faith-filled, Christ-centered and mission-focused dynamic leader who holds a genuine commitment to Catholic education. Other important qualifications include:

• A strong background in teaching, and leadership experience in a school setting

• The ability to help the Principal create and grow a positive and collaborative working environment and a strong, vibrant Catholic educational culture

• An approachable leadership style and a willingness to form excellent educational/working relationships with students, faculty, families and stakeholders

• An ability to guide and support students and their families in a relationship of trust and collaboration

• An articulate communicator of the mission and value of Catholic education, who can help find, develop and retain high-quality mission-centered teaching staff

• A knowledgeable practitioner of a variety of educational teaching and learning styles and methods

• A skilled leader in teacher and staff growth and development, including professional education and training, mentoring, and on-going support

• An ability to support the Principal in the development of budgets and oversight of facilities and maintenance with sound fiscal management

• An effective verbal and written communicator who is able to serve as a public face of the school

Education and Experience

Minimum

• Practicing Catholic who subscribes to the tenets of the Catholic Faith.

• Master’s Degree in Educational Administration or a Master’s degree in a related field with administrative coursework.

• Four (4) or more years of school administration or equivalent experience Preferred

• Qualified to be licensed by the North Carolina State Department of Public Instruction

• Previous successful experience in School Administration

• Bilingual in English and Spanish

• Strong computer skills (Student Information and Learning Management Systems, virtual classroom and meeting software, productivity software)
