Patrons will share an unmissable night of culture, glamour, entertainment, fun, and fabulousness with a fantastic show choreographed by Kloe Dean. High Commissioners and Ambassadors’ from across the Caribbean are in attendance to support this event. Miss Caribbean UK (MCUK) is the first Afro Caribbean beauty pageant to go National. We have held heats across the UK creating shows that are dynamic, informative, inclusive, and unique and which we hope will leave a legacy of awareness of the positive contributions that the Afro Caribbean Community has made and is still making to UK culture. This Year, we have 8 beautiful Finalists which are featured on pages 16-23 and we are also honoured and truly appreciate the assistance of our spectacular line-up of judges. Message from the newly crowned, outgoing Miss Caribbean UK Queen 2017 Santrece Stewart. My personal journey to being crowned a winner of Miss Caribbean UK began when a good friend of mine told me about the pageant. I immediately saw it as an opportunity to not only tick the “beauty pageant” experience off my bucket list, but also as a chance to reach out to the British Caribbean community regarding the subject of education.

Education is an area of society that I am passionate about, in particular the sciences. I grew to love how science provided us with an understanding of our world and of ourselves, whilst also challenging our minds to think beyond whatever we were told our limits are.

It is the subject that shows us our world is filled with infinite possibilities and teaches us of the many many things we share in common. For me, it has always been a symbol of togetherness. I was fortunate (or unfortunate) enough to move to the UK from Jamaica at a young age, receiving the gift of free education, something I have never taken for granted. However, as I moved through school, college and university in the UK, I realised that it is a gift that many British Caribbean’s tend not to make the most of, and for reasons ranging from a lack of motivation to systematically ingrained socio-economic barriers, we are consistently the worst performing group in schools. Through support from the wider community, and through finding ways to provide young British Caribbean’s with an understanding of self and the world around them, I believe we can begin to fix our community together. During my short time as MCUK Queen, I travelled to the African continent for the first time. I was lucky enough to spend some time in the children’s international school in Nigeria and immediately noticed how from a young age,

these children are taught to be natural leaders with a strong sense of identity. They are filled with confidence, ambition and a spirit that is unafraid of challenge. Through planned charity work as well as grass root projects, it is my hope that more young people will become interested in science. We aim to see students performing better in school and developing into successful young adults with a great sense of purpose. I am thankful to my close friends and family for always being so patient, supportive and encouraging throughout every stage of my life. Last but not least, I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone that works within the MCUK team for creating such an amazing platform that encourages people like me to flourish.
