y name is James Hamory and I am the organizer of Antelope Valley Summer 2012 Rubik's Cube Competition
I am fifteen years old and have been cubing since 2008. I have been interested in organizing an official World Cube Association competition for a couple years now, and was finally able to put one together.
AV Summer 2012 is the only WCA competition that has taken place in the Antelope Valley. The event was held at the AERO Institute in Palmdale, California, USA. The competition became official in March and was announced on the WCA website, SpeedSolving Forum, YouTube, and in the local newspaper. About 60 people or so showed up during the day, 29 of them being competitors. We held the following events at the competition: 2x2, 3x3, 4x4, 5x5, 3x3 One足Handed, 3x3 Blindfolded, Pyraminx, Square足1, Magic, and Master Magic. We had a lot of help running the competition, with over fifteen competitors volunteering to scramble and judge.

verall the competition went very well. We even provided a tour of the NASA足 Dryden Fiber Optics Lab in the AERO Institute for those who were interested, and about 12 people took the opportunity to go on it. Our table of free cubing information (printed solution tutorials and website links) was popular too, and SpeedCubeShop, who provided prizes for the competition, was on site and was well visited by the enthusiastic cubers. One special feature of the competition is that we had a live results system projected onto a screen at the front of the room. Competitors and spectators were able to see results that had been entered and who was moving on to the next round. In the end, James Hamory won the main Rubik's Cube event with an average of 11.67, and also won 4x4 and Pyraminx. Michael Young won the 5x5, Square足1, and 3x3 Blindfolded events. Marco Mendoza got 1st place in the 3x3 One足Handed Event, Steven Turner took 1st in 2x2, Samuel Chiu won Magic, and Andy Smith won Master Magic. All the results are posted on the WCA website. As an organizer of this event I am very pleased with how this event turned out. We had many good compliments and we have been thinking about what we can do better next time. WHAT HAPPENS IN CHILE?
The name of the competition was Macul Autumn Open 2012, it was the 19th tournament organized in Chile and the 2nd one since Felipe Rojas was reassigned as the WCA Delegate after 9 months without a official delegate. It took place at Teatro Municipal de la Comuna de Macul in Santiago, Chile. 26 people of different ages participated on 12 official events. The winner of the open was Leopoldo Ibarra with an average of 12.49. In second place, Francisco Lemes with an average of 13.10 and in third place, José Garrido with an average of 14.29. The winners in the other events were: Leopoldo Ibarra (4x4, 3x3 OH y Megaminx), Paulo Salgado (5x5, Pyraminx, 6x6 y 7x7), José Garrido (2x2, 3x3 FMC, Rubik's Clock) and Francisco Lemes (BLD). Also, 3 South American Records were made: 2x2 Single 1.59 José Garrido, 3x3 BLD Single 45.16 Francisco Lemes and Megaminx Single 1:02.66 Leopoldo Ibarra.
