Wake-up Aftershock Raine-ET*RC EX-92 is owned by the Houdek family of Caledonia. She was the first place Five-Year-Old Cow at the Midwest Fall National.

She also earned first place Five-Year-Old Cow, Best Udder, and Best Bred and Owned at the District 1 Holstein Show this year. The Houdeks are looking forward to seeing how her daughters develop. Currently, she has daughters by Armani, Solomon, Diamondback, Crush and Avalanche. They also have pregnancies and transfers by Jordy-Red and Goldwyn. From the President- Andy Steinhagen Greetings! As I sit down to write this we have just finished our Fall Harvest Sale. It’s hard to describe my feelings on it. We had the best quality of cattle that we’ve offered in years, and I had numerous compliments from people I really look up to and respect in this business that have weathered the ups and downs of the industry. While sale prices reAndy Steinhagen flected our milk markets, we can still see quality MHA Board President is appreciated and take pride in that. None of this would have been possible without sale chair Tracy Schaefer’s efforts.

He and his committee along with our staff did an outstanding job putting together this sale and should be recognized for their hard work. The raffle didn’t sell all the tickets, but I think that’s another sign of our economy. The raffle is still one of our biggest revenue generators. Thanks to Kris Gruenes and her committee for their efforts. I’d also like to recognize the achievements of our members at World Dairy Expo both in the open show and junior show and also members who exhibited in other breeds. In addition, I would like

to congratulate Jeannette Sheehan for being named Dairy Woman of the Year, Randy and Jennifer Gross who were recognized as Progressive Commercial Dairy Producers by National Dairy Shrine and Ron Eustice who was honored by Dairy Hall of Fame. We also had numerous junior members that were rewarded with judging contest accolades and scholarships.

We look forward to spring for All-Breeds Convention, March 1st to 2nd in Onalaska hosted by the Houston County Holstein Club.

We are excited to bring a new spring sale format with CattleClub. com that will be explained in this issue. I hope all of our members have an easy winter and wonderful holidays and find time to enjoy the most important things in life with family and loved ones. We are both excited to almost have a full year under our belts in our roles with the Minnesota Holstein Association. We truly appreciate everyone who has helped us learn our new roles and appreciate your patience with us during the transition to two employees. It has been a privilege to be a part of this organization.

As we write this, we just wrapped up the Fall Harvest Sale. Thank you to everyone that helped make this event possible and thank you to all for your patience with us as we clerked the sale for Chelsey Asche the first time. While the average of the sale reflects MHA Marketing Manager the difficult times our industry is going through, the sale still offered a feeling of positivity and optimism. Obviously an appreciation for the Holstein cow is what brings our membership together. We were glad to see quality animals sold to homes where they will become new farm favorites and show projects for the upcoming year. You can find the summary of the Fall Harvest Sale on page 8 of this issue.

In this issue of the Minnesota Holstein News make sure to take a look at the breeders seminar schedule on the next page. Andrew Hunt from the Bullvine, will be touring the state and speaking at six different locations from February 4 to 6. We also encourage you to check out the ad and registration form on page 10 for the All-Breeds Convention which will be held from March 1st to 2nd in Onalaska, Wis., at the Stoney Creek Hotel and Convention Center. This year’s convention is hosted by the Houston County Holstein Club.

We are excited to partner with CattleClub.com to offer an online video sale this spring that will be held during the same time period as the All-Breeds Convention. You need not attend the convention to bid on the sale; however, we will have a computer available at AllBreeds Convention for anyone who is interested in bidding. This will be a different format than many of us are used to, but we encourage everyone to keep an open mind. The team at CattleClub.com have a talent for preparing and displaying the sale lots online and are quickly gaining popularity in the dairy industry. If you have an elite consignment that you would like to offer on the sale, please contact the MHA office. To learn more about the sale, check out the ad on page 9.

You will also find information on the futurity on pages 22 and 23 This year the futurity has made some slight adjustments to the fees and deadlines in hopes of attracting more participation. Make sure to note these changes.

Some dates to keep in mind for the Juniors include January 20, 2019 which is the due date to turn in YDJM and DJM applications in to the MHA office. The scholarship and MJHA convention deadline is February 15, 2019. A full schedule and scholarship information can be found on pages 12 & 13 as well as on the Minnesota Holstein website.

The MJHA convention will be on March 22-24 in Hutchinson, Minn., and the theme this year is “Udder the Sea.” As always, we would like to thank the corporate sponsors of the Minnesota Holstein Association. Holstein History: “A Tale of Two Heifers” by: John Busacker

“I

t was the best of times, it was the worst of times” is the opening for “A Tale of Two Cities.” In 1973, Minnesota had two outstanding fall heifer calves. This is their story.

Joe and Ev Stransky had a fancy Mil-Key Comet Sovereign daughter named Stranshome Sovereign Louise. Louise was a standout from the day she was born and the Stranskys were looking forward to the State Holstein Show in Faribault.

The show was judged that year by Allen Hetts of Fort Atkinson, Wis., famous as a great showman and breeder of Cresent Beauty Holsteins.

Judge Hetts liked Louise so much, he not only started the class with Ev and Joe Stransky (to right of heifer) are pictured with Stranshome Sovereign Louise as well as the award her, he made her the Junior Champion of the show. presenter and sponsor of the Junior Champion award at the 1973 Minnesota State Holstein Show.

Louise was then shown at some county fairs leading up to the Minnesota State Fair in August. judge called it a “dandy” class, but in need of better feet and legs. Genetic Program at Wake-up Holsteins

Located amongst the rolling hills and winding roads of southeastern Minnesota, Wake-Up Holsteins, Caledonia, Minn., owned by Wayne and Kris Houdek has seen success over the past year within the show ring and in the genomic world.

Today the operation milks about 415 cows in a double-twelve parlor with a rolling herd average of about 29,000 lbs. Milk and 1,000 lbs. Fat. They farm about 1,100 acres consisting of 400 acres of corn, 100 acres of soybeans and the remaining land is utilized for alfalfa and wheat.

“She was the first heifer we sold on the sale, so it was very exciting for the family,” Kris said. “We were actually sitting around the kitchen table at home watching it on the computer. We were bouncing off the ceiling with excitement. We were pretty dumbfounded when she went for higher than we could have ever imagined. I never thought I would raise a calf that valuable.”

Wake-up Drago Extra 4273 went back to the “E” family which started from a flush they did about ten years ago in partnership with John Dierson of Minnigan-Hills Farm. They put in four embryos and had three pregnancies: a bull and two heifers. They kept one heifer and John kept one heifer. The Houdeks tested the heifer (Minnigan-Hills Man-O Eva-ET) and she came in at about +2100 GTPI which was considered high at the time. She became one of the first heifers they flushed based on genomics.

“It was a tough decision to sell the Drago heifer. We could have kept her and done a lot of embryo work with her too because she was the highest genomic heifer we had. But we had others who tested high that we keep working with.”

Two genomic animals that the Houdeks are currently excited about include Wake-up Frazzled Star 4151 (+2798 GTPI & +956 NM$) and Wake-up Matters Marley (+2778 GTPI & +901 NM$).

“Genomics has created a lot of family interest and excitement” Kris explained. “We look forward to hearing the results every Tuesday.”

Wayne added, “We built our herd up for over 20 years and now most of our high-profile animals have come from lines that we purchased, but we changed for the better. Genomics was an aggressive change for us, but it was changing with the times. It is no different than when people went from bull breeding to AI. It is a great time to be in the business.”

An Appreciation for Judging and the Show Ring

While genomics has become an integral part of their breeding program, the family also has an appreciation for quality type and show cattle. All three boys have been involved in dairy judging over the years. Eric particularly enjoys judging shows throughout the state.

“Eric had a lot of interest in type families early on,” Wayne said.

“Before genomics, we would go on family vacations and Eric would carry all of the bull books with him. The other boys would pay attention to all of the round bales we drove past and Eric would have his nose in a bull book.”

Therefore, the family also has certain cow families that they breed for Type. This year, they had success in the show ring with Wake-up Aftershock Raine-ET*RC EX-92. Her dam, DJR Laramee Rihanna was purchased on the Minnesota Holstein Association Spring Special Sale in 2011. This year she was the first place Five-Year-Old Cow at the Midwest Fall National. She also earned first place Five-YearOld Cow, Best Udder, and Best Bred and Owned at the District 1 Holstein Show this year. They are looking forward to seeing how her daughters develop. Currently, she has daughters by Armani, Solomon, Diamondback, Crush and Avalanche. They also have pregnancies and

Another Genetics Hobby

The Houdeks have found ways to diversify their operation. They do some custom farming for neighbors. They also have started a small registered Red Angus herd to utilize some of their pasture ground and buildings that aren’t used for the dairy anymore. Naturally, the beef herd has become a genetics hobby of its own.

“We kind of lucked into it,” Aaron explained. “We bought from our neighbor down the road who had purebred Red Angus. The first calves out of our animals were ones that our neighbor bred. We kept a really nice bull out of the first calves that we found out was in the top-15 in the nation for the HerdBuilder trait [a composite trait for building profitable herds.] We also had a heifer calf that we kept that was number three in the Red Angus breed for HerdBuilder.”

Now the Houdeks are looking forward to marketing more of their Red Angus genetics.

“We didn’t have enough of the dairy genetics so we got into beef too,” Kris joked.

Focusing on the Details

Looking to the future, the Houdeks continue to be aggressive with their breeding program and focus on genomics. Andy also noted that they try to utilize some polled genetics within their matings as well.

“Eventually that is something that could be gone in future years that we aren’t able to dehorn calves,” Andy said.

They have discussed various ideas of expansion. However, for the time being, their main focus is to strive to do the best they can on all of the small details that contribute to success.

Klus-Grove Fever Rowdy Tops 2018 Fall Harvest Sale

olstein enthusiasts from all over Minnesota and surrounding states filled the bleachers at the McLeod County Fairgrounds in Hutchinson, Minn., on Saturday, November 17, 2018. The quality of cattle that filled the sale line-up provided a feeling of optimism and appreciation for the Holstein cow. At the sale, 100 lots of cows and heifers were auctioned off. In addition 12 semen lots were sold and three embryo lots. The sale averaged $1,269 on the 100 lots. The cows averaged $1,415, the bred heifers averaged $1,145 and the open heifers averaged $1,007.

University of Minnesota Judging Highlights

T

he dairy cattle judging teams for the University of Minnesota competed very successfully in the dairy cattle judging contests at the All-American Dairy Show, Harrisburg, Pa., World Dairy Expo, Madison, Wis., this fall as well as at the North American International Livestock Exposition (NAILE) in Louisville, Ky., this winter.

On September 17, senior team members Haely Leiding, Fountain, Minn.; Lauren Hendel, Caledonia, Minn.; and Krista Styer, Menomonie, Wis.; plus junior Emily Annexstad, St. Peter, Minn., competed in the collegiate dairy cattle judging contest hosted by the All-American Dairy Show, Harrisburg, Pa. The team placed second overall among the fifteen teams competing.

The team also placed among the top four teams in all five breeds in the contest – second Ayrshire, third Brown Swiss, third Guernsey, third Jersey, and fourth Holstein. Individually, Leiding was fifth overall, second Jersey, and fifth Ayrshire. Hendel placed 10th overall, first Guernsey, and second Brown Swiss. Styer was 11th overall and second Ayrshire, and Annexstad was first in oral reasons (by a four-point margin).

Subsequently, on October 1, the three seniors on the Harrisburg team also competed in the dairy cattle judging contest held in conjunction with World Dairy Expo, Madison, Wis. Senior Kayla Leiding, Fountain, Minn., replaced junior Emily Annexstad for the national contest alongside Haely Leiding, Krista Styer, and Lauren Hendel. The team placed sixth overall of nineteen teams as well as second team Guernsey, second team Milking Shorthorn, fourth team Brown Swiss, and fifth team Holstein. Individually, Kayla Leiding was fourth overall, fourth oral reasons, second Guernsey, third Milking Shorthorn, and fourth Brown Swiss.

For the fourth year in a row, the University of Minnesota placed first overall in the collegiate dairy cattle judging contest held on November 4 at the North American International Livestock Exposition (NAILE), Louisville, Ky. The margin of victory was 30 points over second place Virginia Tech with three Minnesota team members among the top six individuals. Eighteen four-year universities competed in the contest. Teams from the University of Minnesota have placed first overall in the Louisville collegiate contest seven of the past nine years.

In addition to placing first overall, the University of Minnesota team was first in oral reasons by an eight-point margin, was first in the Jersey breed, and placed among the top five teams in all five breeds. Team members were Rachel Coyne, Spring Valley, Wis.; Kayla Leiding, Fountain, Minn.; Lauren Hendel, Caledonia, Minn.; and Tanner Morrison, Peterson, Minn.

Individually, Coyne was second overall, first in Ayrshire, and 2nd in Jersey.

Leiding was fourth overall. Hendel was sixth overall and first in Jersey, and Morrison was fourth in Jersey and fifth in Holsteins. Coaches were Dr. Les Hansen, Alicia Thurk Hiebert, Eric Houdek, and Gabriella Sorg.

JUNIOR MOOS Attention Junior Members, Just a friendly reminder that the 2018 MJHA All-Breeds convention will be held on March 22-24, 2018 in Hutchinson, Minn. Members ages 9-21 will share in activities mixers, workshops and speakers. In addition, there will be contests such as dairy quiz bowl, dairy jeopardy, a public speaking contest, photo contest and a display board making contest. This is a great chance to meet new people throughout the state that share a common interest in dairy cattle.

Registration is due to the Minnesota Holstein office by February 15, 2019. The registration form can be found at www. mnholstein.com under the Juniors section. There are also applications for other Minnesota Junior Holstein awards that will be presented at the banquet on Saturday night of the convention. These awards include two separate scholarship applications as well as production awards for cows owned by the junior members.

If you have any questions feel free to contact any of the Junior Holstein Board Members or the Minnesota Holstein Association office. We also encourage members to invite friends that might not yet be part of the Minnesota Junior Holstein Association to come check it out and see what the Minnesota Junior Holstein Association has to offer.

Also a quick reminder for members to mark your calendars for June 24- June 27, 2019 because that is when the National Holstein convention will take place in Appleton, Wis. This convention is open to members of all ages as well as those who qualify for contests at the state level. We want to encourage as many members to attend, because it is a great experience, where young dairy enthusiasts from around the country meet. We hope to see you all at convention in March!

JUNIOR MOOS AWARD FORMS & CONTESTS Photo Contest Do you have a great photo from a junior event, or one of you with a project animal? Make sure to pack them along with your formal clothes and swimsuit, and enter them in the annual photo contest.

Public Speaking Contest It’s time again for the prepared speaking contest, which is open for all juniors ages 9-21. Contestants can choose any subject pertaining to Holstein cattle and the Holstein industry. For juniors, the speech should be 3-5 minutes and intermediates and seniors should be 6-8 minutes.

Winners can have the opportunity to compete at the national contest in Appleton, Wis., this June. In order to participate, you must sign up on your convention registration form. The complete rules and scoring system will be sent to you after you sign up. The contest will be held the Saturday of the MJHA convention. (You may also participate in dairy bowl, too.) Get your pens ready and prepare those speeches. We are all looking forward to hearing Minnesota Juniors at their best.

Dairy Bowl Get your dairy bowl teams together and start practicing!

The dairy bowl competition will take place Saturday afternoon. One of the big events of the MJHA Convention is the dairy bowl competition. Juniors will again have the opportunity to display their knowledge of the Holstein breed and the dairy industry on Saturday.

The contest consists of two divisions, junior and senior.

Junior team members cannot reach their 16th birthday before Jan. 1, 2019. Senior members cannot reach their 21st birthday by Jan. 1, 2019. Each team is made up of four members and all must be members of the MJHA. The champion teams will have the opportunity to compete in the National Dairy Bowl contest in Appleton, Wis., this summer.

Dairy Jeopardy All juniors are eligible to participate in dairy jeopardy.

This is modeled after the jeopardy contest at the national level. If the speech contest or dairy bowl isn’t your style, try the 2019 All-Breeds Convention: Dairy Jeopardy!

Dairy Jeopardy is a contest for individuals who are quick on the buzzer and want to test his or her dairy knowledge. The contest is open to all Minnesota Junior Holstein members ages 9-21. For rules and more details about Dairy Jeopardy, contact the Holstein office at (320) 259-0637 or email minnesotaholstein@gmail.com. Signup will be at the convention.

PBR & Long Range Production Awards Long range production awards for 50,000, 100,000 and 150,000 pounds of milk will be given out to juniors at the convention banquet. This year, long range production awards will be open to all breeds. High Milk, High Fat and High Protein awards are also given for the age divisions two-year-old cows, three-year-old cows, fouryear-olds cows, and five-years and over. The Minnesota Junior Progressive Breeders Registry award will also be presented at the banquet. The applications for these awards need to be submitted to the MHA office by Feb. 15, 2019. This is a great way for you to get the recognition that both you and your cows deserve.

Apply for the Holstein Association Distinguished Young Holstein Breeder Award: Purpose:

• To recognize significant accomplishments of young Registered Holstein® breeders.

• To recognize young Registered Holstein breeders for their commitment to preserving the dairy industry and for achieving excellence in their daily lives.

• To motivate other dairy producers to achieve similar goals by creating awareness of the successes young breeders have with Registered Holsteins.

Requirements: • Applicant(s) can nominate themselves, or be nominated.

• The nominee(s) must be between the ages of 21 and 40 (as of January 1 of the award year) and must be a member of the Holstein Association USA, Inc. Applicants applying as a couple or as business partners must all meet the age requirements. Herd ownership and/or management responsibility are required, and the herd they manage must be on DHIA test.

• Two letters of recommendation must accompany application.

2018 World Dairy Expo Junior Holstein Show Highlights MADISON, WIS. – Gamlake Destry Sallie took home three new titles at the 2018 International Junior Holstein Show. The winning Six-Year-Old and Older Cow was named Senior Champion and Champion Bred & Owned before going on to be named Grand Champion Holstein of the Junior Show. Sallie, exhibited by Samantha Gambonini, Petaluma, Calif., took home the $500 Udder Comfort Grand Champion Cash Award and the Lillian & Keith King and Jim King Grand Champion of the Junior Show Award. Second in the SixYear-Old and Older Cow class and Reserve Grand Champion of the International Junior Holstein Show was Lovhilll Braxton Funky-ET, exhibited by Joseph, Zach, Jerome and Darian Stransky of Owatonna, Minn. They were awarded the Lillian & Keith King and Jim King Reserve Grand Champion of the Junior Show Award.

Evaluating the 217 entries were official judge Chris Hill, Thurmont, Md., and associate judge Robert Teixeira, Keyes, Calif.

MINNESOTA FUTURITY FACTS:

• The more entries the higher the payouts, down 25 places.

• There are two classes; Production & Type. You can choose one or both when entering.

• The production formula used is on 305 ME’s.

• Past 1st-3rd place winners in production have ranged from values of $4,469 to $3,243.

• Production Formula : (# of Milk x .01) + (# of Fat x 1.15) + (# of Protein x 2.55) = S Value

HOW TO ENTER:

• Look at your animals that were born between September 1st of the previous year to August 31st of the current year.

• Choose any animal that you believe has the potential of doing well in their class.

• Futurity Classes: • PRODUCTION - awards handed out at the All-Breeds Convention • TYPE - awards are handed out at the Minnesota State Holstein Show • BOTH- all animals are eligible to be entered in both classes • Fill out the form on page 23 before March 2, 2019.

NEW THIS YEAR:

• Sign up three animals, one of the animals will be signed up for free.

• Sign up five animals, two of the animals will be signed up for free.

2018 PAYOUT:

This year’s production recipients received over $345 in payouts. This years type participants received over $445 in payouts. Remember, the more participants, the bigger the payout.

Golden Gopher Futurity XLIV - two-year old futurity -

The Golden Gopher Futurity is sponsored and governed by the Minnesota Holstein Association. Its purpose is to stimulate interest in breeding and developing outstanding Holsteins for production and type regardless of individual herd size. It is open to any Minnesota breeder of Holsteins identified through Holstein Association USA, Inc. This will be a continuing program with the 2019 competition designated as Futurity No. XLIV, 2020 Futurity No. XLV, etc. One nomination is required for each animal that competes. Competition will be in two categories - production or type - and animals may be entered in one or both categories. All nominations are the responsibility of the owner and must be made on regulation entry blanks, along with specified fees, postmarked by the nomination date and other rules. All money received from the nominations in each Futurity class shall make up the purse entered on the basis of their placings.

Any registered Holstein female, owned by a Minnesota Holstein Association member, and born from 9/01/17 through 8/31/18 is eligible for the 2020 Golden Gopher Futurity XLV. One payment of $25 shall be paid by 3/02/19.

A breeder may nominate any number of females in either the production or type class or both. Nominations must be postmarked no later than the due date.

CLASS NO. 1-PRODUCTION Animals entered must freshen no later than age two-years and six months.

Herd must be on DHIR or standard DHIA test, all records to be adjusted

to two times a day milking. No ownersampler records will be eligible. Animals must have a completed lactation before 12/31/20 to be considered for the 2020 Futurity. Lactations ending in 2021 will be in competition for the Futurity No. XLVI. Their entry fees will be transferred to that futurity. Awards will be based on 305 day mature equivalent milk, fat and protein production using a 3.5% test base for fat and 3.2% for protein. Animals must have a completed lactation of at least 275 days. Records will be verified

by Minnesota DHI. CLASS NO. 2-TYPE Animals nominated will be shown in a special two-year old futurity class at the Minnesota State Show, winners and awards to be based on the placing at that show. Showing in this class does not eliminate her from showing in the All-Minnesota two-year old classes. All rules and regulations of the show are to be adhered to. Placings will be made by an official show judge. The purse shall consist of all money received by nomination fees, less the expenses for its promotion and management. All money will be kept in a special fund and used only for futurity purposes.

Money received for Class 1 Production nominations will be used only for that

class and money received for Class 2 Type nominations will be used only for those animals entered in that class.

The money in each class will be divided among placings as follow: First Place - 15 %; 2nd Place - 10%; 3rd Place - 8%; 4th Place - 6%; 5th Place 5%; 6-10 Placings - 4%; 11-15 Placings - 3%; 16-25 Placings - 2%. Remaining 1% to be used for administration fees.

If fewer than 25 animals are competing, the remainder will be divided equally among the entries. Production winners will be recognized at the Minnesota AllBreeds Convention following the year of competition.

All nomination fees are committed to the purse. No refunds will be made whether an animal completes or eligibility is discontinued.

Any animal sold after being nominated will remain eligible if the new owner is a Minnesota Holstein member.

The Minnesota Holstein Association is sponsoring and governing the futurity and will not be responsible for any accident or injury in connection with the show.

OBITUARY DALE ANTHONY SMITH was born on May 30, 1963, in Brainerd, Minnesota. He was the son of Vernon and Irene (Landwehr) Smith. Dale was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith. He attended Central High School in Norwood Young America, Minnesota, and graduated in 1981. Dale furthered his education by attending Hutchinson Vo-Tech in Hutchinson, Minnesota, receiving a degree in Dairy Herd Management.

On September 12, 1987, Dale was united in marriage to Lisa Menden in Shakopee, Minnesota. Dale and Lisa made their home in Hamburg, Minnesota. Their marriage was blessed with two sons, Wyatt and Austin. Dale and Lisa shared almost 31 years of marriage.

Dale was a lifelong dairy farmer and had a great passion for Jersey cattle. He was an active member of the Minnesota Jersey Cattle Association, where he served as the state President for many years. He enjoyed traveling, gardening and landscaping alongside Lisa. Family was a top priority and he enjoyed attending his boys’ sporting events. His love of family and friends was apparent in his daily activi-

ties. Dale’s family mantra was “We Are a Team!” Dale also had a great love and appreciation for the outdoors.

Dale was a faithful member of Church of St.. Pius X in Glencoe. He was a very spiritual man of strong faith. Dale passed away on Monday, September 10, 2018, at the age of 55. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Blessed be his memory.

Dale is survived by his: Wife, Lisa Smith of Hamburg, MN; Sons, Wyatt Smith & Austin Smith of Hamburg, MN; Father, Vernon Smith of Norwood Young America, MN; Sister, Anna Marie Schoeppner and her husband, John, of Eden Prairie, MN; Sister-In-Law, Mary Thielen and her husband, Rick, of Elburn, IL; Brother-In-Law, Mike Menden of Eden Prairie, MN; Nephews & Niece, David, Jonathon & Katie Thielen, Ryan & Brent Alling; Other relatives and many friends.

Dale was preceded in death by his Mother, Irene Smith; Father-In-Law and Mother-In-Law, Ed and Helen Menden; Grandparents, Paul and Eulalia Landwehr, Charles and Hilda Smith; Brother-In-Law, Paul Menden.

MHA Corporate Sponsorship Program The Minnesota Holstein Association (MHA) was organized in 1910 for the purpose of improving and promoting the Holstein breed of dairy cattle. The MHA consists of 700 members and is open to all people interested in the dairy industry. The mission of the Minnesota Holstein Association is, "To enhance the lives and profitability of all dairy producers and enthusiasts by providing opportunities for education, marketing, recognition and socialization."

As dedicated supporters of local registered Holstein dairy farmers, businesses have the opportunity to join and support the Minnesota Holstein Association through our Corporate Sponsor Program. This program has five levels of sponsorship: Grand Supreme Champion, Supreme Champion, Grand Champion and Honorable Mention.

Each level includes recognition as a dedicated sponsor of the Minnesota Holstein Association. As a corporate sponsor for our association, businesses help the Minnesota Holstein Association provide opportunities for dairy producers across the state.

If you and your business are interested in becoming a corporate sponsor or if you do business with a company you feel would benefit from becoming a corporate sponsor please visit the Minnesota Holstein website and print off a corporate sponsorship program agreement and flyer. Once completed the agreement and payment can be sent to the MHA office. A percentage of the sponsorship is given back to the local clubs along with their rebates in May.
