Koronadal LGU maximizes anti-COVID-19 efforts By John Felix Unson KORONADAL CITY — Personnel of the city police impounded 45 motorcycles and held for orientation 63 violators of curfew and other local anti-COVID-19 regulations in a series of operations in the past three days. The City Government of Koronadal City reported via Facebook Monday that three of the apprehended violators are minors. Some of the motorists were apprehended, in joint operations by the Koronadal City police and anti-coronavirus

frontliners from the May 15 to 17, for not wearing facemasks and for violation of the citywide nighttime curfew meant to limit movement of residents to protect them from COVID-19. Farmer dies, infra projects, crops damage

By Edwin O. Fernandez A farmer was drowned while infrastructures were destroyed as floods and landslides brought about by intertropical convergence zone hit Soccsksargen region. The South Cotabato Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) said the day-long rains caused the Allah River to overflow and inundated communities and farm areas nearby. Initial reports showed that the flash floods damaged vast tract of agricultural lands in at least four towns. The river crisscrossed the towns of Lake Sebu, Tboli, Surallah, and Sto. Niño in South Cotabato and Isulan and Esperanza in Sultan Kudarat and ended in the Maguindanao marshland. In Surallah, South Cotabato, municipal disaster officer Leonardo Ballon, said 44-year-old Roger Barneso of Barangay Moloy, was believed to have drowned after his head hit huge stones along Allah River. He was swept away at about 10 p.m. after his tricycle, with his wife and daughter on board, fell off a wooden bridge in Barangay Dajay. The wife and the girl survived. Barneso’s remains was fished out along Allah River in Barangay Bai Saripinang, Bagumbayan, Sultan Kudarat. Ballon, in his report to South Cotabato PDRRMO head Rolly Doane Aquino, said the flash floods damaged the Maculan bridge in Barangay Veterans, four foot bridges in Barangays Lamsugod, Tubi Allah and Buenavista, a bridge in Barangay Moloy. Ballon said assessment is still on-going on the extent of damages to crops and other agricultural products.

Region 12 resources manage COVID-19

KORONADAL CITY — The Department of Health (DOH) in Region 12 (Soccsksargen) assured Tuesday the region still has enough resources to manage its increasing coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases. Dr. Aristides Tan, DOH-Region 12 director, said the region’s hospital and isolation capacity remains under the “safe zone” amid the spike in new infections in various localities since last month. Tan said they are continuously working with local government units (LGUs) in the area to improve their capacity in handling the mounting cases, especially in terms of testing, isolation, and treatment of patients. As of Monday evening, DOH-12 recorded at least 1,429 active cases in the region, one of the highest since last year. The confirmed infections in the area have reached a total of 9,184, with 298 related deaths and 7,455 recoveries. Tan said they recorded an average of 100 new infections per day in the region’s four provinces and four cities in the last two weeks.

By Edwin O. Fernandez HEALTH authorities in North Cotabato today said that isolation facilities for COVID-19 are almost full. Dr. Eva Rabaya, North Cotabato provincial health chief, said health officials feared that the number of Covid-19 patients may go higher as against isolation rooms in the provinces’ hospitals and isolation facilities. “The cases of infections are rising and we fear we might be overwhelmed by this,” Dr. Rabaya told DXND Radyo in the vernacular. “Our facilities are not yet full but if the trend continues, we might run

out of isolation rooms,” said Dr. Rabaya, also head of North Cotabato Integrated Provincial Health Office. She cited the case of Mlang District Hospital where at one given time the Covid-19 patients rose to 20, three patients short to its full capacity of 23. There are patients who are also on waiting list for admission in the same hospital. “Even the other isolation facilities in various localities are also nearing full capacity,” she added. “We appeal to our local health frontliners in conducting their
