The 6th ID covers Maguindanao and parts of Lanao del Sur, both inside the core territory of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, and the provinces of Sultan Kudarat, North Cotabato, Sarangani, and South Cotabato and the cities of Cotabato, Tacurong, Koronadal and General Santos, in Region 12 where somne MNLF members reside. Romeo Sema, MNLF vice chairman for political affairs and member of the 80-seat Bangsamoro parliament, senior representatives of the front from across central Mindanao and 6th ID’s commander, Major Gen. Roy Galido, THE Army’s 6th Infantry Division has assured to work out the discharge from service of a soldier arrested for trying to smuggle into Davao City five assault rifles Wednesday. The 26-year-old Private 1st Class Mohammad Kasingsingan Kitig, of the 6th Civil Military Operations Battalion of 6th ID, is now in the custody of the Davao City Police Office. Reports reaching 6th ID’s headquarters here stated that Kitig was intercepted at past 5:00 a.m. Wednesday at a joint Army-police checkpoint in Toril, Davao City and was immediately arrested when policemen found the rifles in his car, a Kia Optima bearing license plates AAP 1099. He was to bring the rifles and some P50,000 worth of rifle parts to a buyer somewhere in Davao City. Major Gen. Roy Galido, commander of 6th ID, said Wednesday has ordered the commander of their 6th CMO Battalion and their administrative office to work out Kitig’s discharge from the Philippine Army.Companions here of Kitig told

On Thursday, Lt. Colonel Dennis Almorato, commander of 6th Civil Military Operations Battalion and immediate superior of Army Private First Class Mohammad Kitig, said his unit is coordinating closely with Task Force Davao and Toril Police Station on Kitig’s case.Almorato said he was surprise on the news about Kitig.“Personally, I was surprise to hear the news because we really have no idea he was into gun running but we have to wait for the investigation to be completed,” Almorato said, without exonerating Private Kitig. He said Kitig was assigned to the CMO Battalion based here in just over a month from his previous assigned in Maguindanao.Heisfacing administrative charges before the Army’s 6th Infantry Division. Maj. Gen. Roy Galido, 6th ID commander, has ordered deeper probe even as he assured the public that he is not tolerating illegal activities by any of the 6th ID troopers. Kitig was driving his Kia Optima car with licensed plate AAP-1099 when flagged down at the TF Davao Sirawan checkpoint at 5:30 a.m. A plain view inspection led to the discovery of at least seven high-powered firearms and ammunition from Kitig’s car. Major Carol Jabagat, Toril Police Station commander, said Kitig could not present documents legalizing the possession and transport of high-powered guns that is a violation against RA 10591 or the Illegal Possession of Firearms and Explosives. Kitig has not issued any statement to the press as of posting. PNA P3

Dr. Rogelio Aturdido, Jr., chief of the Integrated Provincial Health Office, said Tuesday that mobile teams have been deployed across the province and down to the barangay level for massive free chest X-rays for TB case detection. He said the patients found positive for TB were among the 4,200 individuals from 55 barangays in the province who voluntarily availed of their mobile health services in the last five months. “These patients are now getting treatment using modern facilities,” Aturdido said during a news conference. He explained that the practice of collecting sputum was no longer use but a more convenient mobile X-ray machine that health workers bring to the villages. When asked why the huge number of TB patients, Dr. Aturdido believed that many residents were unaware they have the disease or have no access to diagnostic services and treatment. Aturdido admitted that the IPHO mobile team had difficulty-convincing locals to submit sputum samples for TB testing.Asremedial steps, IPHO utilize the mobile x-ray machine to detect the now curable disease. As the number of persons being infected with COVID-19 virus have dwindled, the IPHO has intensified implementation of its other health programs.

THE so hyped deadly ambush last week in Ampatuan, Maguindanao is best resolved by proper government entities, not by netizens aggressively talking about it on Facebook, a member of the Bangsamoro parliament said. “Leave it to the Philippine National Police, the Armed Forces, the Bangsamoro government, the Moro Islamic Liberation Front and the office of Presidential Peace Adviser Carlito Galvez, Jr.,” Physician Kadil Sinolinding said in a statement Wednesday. Sinolinding is a newly-appointed member of the 80-seat interim parliament in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.Maguindanao is a province covered by Malacañang’s separate peace compacts with the Moro National Liberation Front and the MILF, he Sinolindingsaid. said there are mechanisms established by the government and the MILF that can help put closure to the fatal ambush just a week ago of two members of the municipal police in Ampatuan town in Maguindanao.Thefatalities, Police Lt. Reynaldo Samson and Cpl. Salipudin Endab, were out on a law-enforcement mission in Barangay Kapinpilan, Ampatuan when they were attacked by suspected members of the outlawed Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters, killing them both instantly. Three other policemen were hurt in the attack. Sinolinding said exchanges of weird and antagonistic opinions and commentaries on Facebook, mostly virtually unfounded and uncalled for, will not solve the problem. The pope also shared a piece of wisdom from St. Ignatius: to read the lives of the “Becausesaints.they show the style of God in the life of people not very different to us, because the saints were made of flesh and blood like us, in a narrative, comprehensible way. Their actions speak to ours, and they help us to understand their meaning,” he said. Sometimes, he added, “there is an apparent randomness in the events of life: everything seems to arise from a banal mishap — there were no books about knights, only lives of saints. A mishap that nonetheless holds a possible turning“Godpoint.”works through unplannable events, and also through mishaps,” he said. “Mishap: What is God saying to you? Pope Francis: God can speak to us in the unexpected Pope Francis during his weekly general audience at St. Peter’s Square in the Vatican, Sept. 7, 2022 Photo courtesy of Vatican Media

DailyReadingsScripture

ROME — God can speak to us in the unexpected moments of our lives if we learn to listen well to what he is telling us in our hearts, Pope Francis said on Wednesday. “I will give you a piece of advice: beware of the unexpected,” the pope said Sept. 7 at his weekly public audience. “Is it life speaking to you, is it the Lord speaking to you, or is it the devil? Someone,” he continued. “But there is something to discern, how I react when faced with the unexpected.” Francis’ general audience was again in St. Peter’s Square Wednesday after it was held inside the Vatican’s Paul VI auditorium in August to avoid the worst of the summer heat. The pope opened and closed his encounter with the public by riding the popemobile around the square. The audience marked his second week of catechesis on the theme of “Discernment.” As part of discernment, the pope encouraged people to reflect on their reactions to even small, unexpected circumstances, such as the surprise arrival of one’s mother-in-law. “I was quiet at home and ‘Boom!’ — my mother-in-law arrives; and how do you react to your mother-in-law? Is it love or something else inside? You must discern,” he said. “I was working well in the office, and a companion comes along to tell me he needs money: how do you react? See what happens when we experience things we were not expecting, and there we can learn to know our heart as itPopemoves.”Francis said knowing how to really listen to your heart is an important part of discernment in making a judgment or decision about something. “We listen to the television, the radio, the mobile phone; we are experts at listening, but I ask you: do you know how to listen to your heart?” he asked. “Do you stop to ask: ‘But how is my heart? Is it satisfied, is it sad, is it searching for something?’ To make good decisions, you need to listen to your heart.” To illustrate his point, the pope recalled the story of the conversion of St. Ignatius of Loyola, a soldier enamored with stories of knights and chivalry who was forced to confront his future happiness after he was badly injured in battle.Bored while his leg was healing, Ignatius read stories of the saints and the life of Jesus when other books were not available to him. Francis quoted from Ignatius’ autobiography, in which the future saint wrote about himself: “‘When he thought of worldly things’ — and of chivalrous things, one understands — ‘it gave him great pleasure, but afterward he found himself dry and sad. My patron and namesake, St. Anthony of Padua is known as the patron of lost things. If you lost something, then pray to St. Anthony to recover what was lost. I know a bishop who lost his camera in the crowded city of Rome. It contained all his pictures of the Vatican pilgrimage. It seemed impossible to recover the camera with all the pickpockets and thieves roaming the city for an opportunity to take advantage of innocent tourists. Still, he prayed to St. Anthony. The camera was not returned to him in Rome, so he returned to the Philippines without it. One day, a package arrived in his convent containing his camera. A group of Filipino tourists saw it in a corner of the Vatican where he may have forgotten it when he changed his clothes. When they opened it they saw the pictures of the owner and his friends on pilgrimage. They sent it to the Filipino seminary in Rome and eventually it made its way back to the Philippines, courtesy of another visiting bishop. Thank you, St. Anthony. There may have been instances in our life when we have lost something important. We go out of our way searching for it. The readings this Sunday tell stories of lost and found. In the gospel, Jesus tells the stories of the lost sheep, the lost coin, and the lost son (Lk. 15:1-32). In all these stories, the owner who recovered what he has lost, rejoiced with his friends. Jesus emphasized the joy of finding what was lost. In the same manner, St. Paul in his letter to Timothy rejoiced at his having been found (I Tim 1:12). He was the lost one, the “first among sinners” yet God searched him out like the lost sheep. Recall the words of the song Amazing Grace, “I once was lost but now, I’m found, was blind but now I see.” The writer of this hymn was once a slave trader who as a ship captain would buy slaves in Africa and sell them in the Americas, until like Paul, he converted, became an Anglican minister, and became a passionate advocate to abolish the slave

At the end of his general audience, Pope Francis expressed his closeness to all mothers, and “in a special way, to those mothers who have children who suffer: those who are sick, those who are marginalized, those who are imprisoned.”

A religious group has called for charges to be dropped against an organization of Catholic missionaries, including some nuns.

The Religious Discernment Group (RDG), in a statement, said that accusing the Rural Missionaries of the Philippines (RMP) of financing terrorists is “simply ridiculous”.

The Department of Justice has recently indicted 16 people, including five nuns, linked with the RMP on alleged terrorist financing— a non-bailable offense.

The charges were filed on August 15, before the Iligan City Regional Trial Court. The DOJ alleged that the RMP wired a portion of money it received from foreign funders to the New People’s Army, which the government is seeking to outlaw as a terrorist organization. The RMP, which was established more than 50 years ago, has repeatedly denied the allegations.Fr.Dulay stressed that the Church is definitely opposed to the use of violence and its respect for life is absolute.

trade. His name is John Newton. The first reading from the book of Exodus tells the great mercy of God for his people who have sinned. When Moses was conversing with God on top of Mt. Sinai, the Israelites made a golden statue of a calf to worship (Ex. 32:7-8). God told Moses about his disappointment and was about to destroy his people. However Moses interceded for them by reminding God about his covenant with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and the promises he made to them. God relented and forgave His chosen people. This will be a pattern in the relationship between God and his people - their numerous infidelities and God’s constant mercy and forgiveness. God’s constancy and fidelity is good news for the sinner, although this may seem illogical. We may oftentimes feel like the oldest son who would not enter his father’s house to rejoice at the return of his wayward brother. It goes against our own sense of justice, until we realize that we can be in the same boat as the younger brother. We too are capable of sinning, and “if not for God’s grace there go I,” as a saint said. The good news is that God searches out the lost, the last, and the least. What is the value of one lost sheep compared to the ninety-nine? Or one little coin? Or a son who made a stupid decision and went his own way? Why seek out and welcome back the drug addict, the alcoholic, those who have not succeeded in their relationships, became failures in their professional and business endeavors? Those considered the drop-outs of society? Those who constantly disappoint their families and friends? The only answer to that is found in our readings this Sunday. God does not think like us. His love is everlasting and his mercy is unending. This is the great lesson we can learn this Sunday. If God is merciful, so should we be merciful. If The Lord Jesus sought to comfort the lost, the least, and the last, so should we. God’s thought is different from ours because God is the Divine Mercy.

Francis also said that some of life’s big questions often arise after “we have already traveled a stretch of the road in life.” Sometimes, we can get stuck on one idea and end up disappointed, he pointed out, adding that doing something good, such as a work of charity, can get us out of that rut by bringing us joy and happiness, feelings that can lead to thoughts of God.

“In this experience we note two aspects, above all,” the pope said. “The first is time: that is, the thoughts of the world are attractive at the beginning, but then they lose their luster and leave emptiness and discontent; they leave you that way, empty. Thoughts of God, on the contrary, rouse first a certain resistance — ‘But I’m not going to read this boring thing about saints’ — but when they are welcomed, they bring an unknown peace that lasts for a long time.” He emphasized that “discernment is not a sort of oracle or fatalism, or something from a laboratory, like casting one’s lot on two possibilities.”

One thing this writer loves about commuting on a tricycle is the opportunity to talk to the driver and fellow passengers when there are not too many of you on board. Such an opportunity gives us an insight into how ordinary people – the men and women on the street – think and feel about what is happening around them and how it affects their lives. How things have changed in Kidapawan City over the past four decades came up in a chat with the driver of the tricycle we rode two weeks ago. The chat took off with the weather, how there has been too much rain lately, and segued into how much flooding is happening nowadays in low lying areas of the city during instances of heavy rain. We both had the same observation: this was something uncommon in decades past. This writer moved from Cotabato City to this capital of the province of Cotabato back in 1981 when it was still a municipality, and a lot different back then. Water that comes out of the faucet was milky white because of the pressure, and naturally cool and refreshing being sourced from mountain springs up in the town’s forested highlands. Newcomers and visitors found it quite a challenge to take an early morning bath. The chill of the evenings lasted until and would often become even more intense in the early hours of the next day. Bathing in the cold Kidapawan water can leave your teeth chattering. Early morning travelers and commuters are often met with foggy roads even at the town center; more so in the upland areas that was then mostly planted to rubber and fruit trees. It was not uncommon to see decades-old hardwood trees standing tall along the roads, then still largely unpaved, bumpy due to the quite large stones that protruded, and muddy when the rains poured. But we seldom heard of flash floods, no, not back then. But times have changed. Back in September of 2014, we wrote in this column how close to 270 families in eight barangays of Kidapawan woke up to rampaging waters breaching their homes on the evening of September 10. An hour long heavy downpour caused the Nuangan River to swell and inundate villages along its path. Among the areas hit by the flood was the vicinity of Radio Station DXND. Station personnel residing at the company bunkhouse close to a creek at the back of the radio station reported seeing hospital beds, oxygen tanks, and even a heavy cement mixer from a neighboring medical facility being carried by the extraordinarily strong floodwaters. Photos of cars dragged and damaged by the raging current hugged attention on social networking sites the morning immediately after the flood. On July 16 this year a 90-minute downpour caused massive flashfloods in the central district of the city, severely affecting more than a hundred families residing along riverbanks in the five barangays of Sudapin, Balindog, Singao, Kalasuyan, and Lanao. Similar incidents of devastating flash floods have happened and, we fear, will continue to happen.

What we need is a comprehensive plan to target the values of people and communities in relation to cleanliness. Its not only the rivers and coasts that need to be the focus of cleanliness. If you are a regular jogger in Cotabato City, you still can see the garbage thrown by city dwellers in your early morning jogs. These, even when the barangays have drawn up detailed garbage disposal operations to rid the city of garbage. The river clean up project is different from the garbage plans, but both have to depend on the values of people living in these communities. This should be targeted by the DEP-ED, since the teachers are in a position to change values. Lets hope that this will be part of the program of the new administrations, not only in BARMM, but in all the urbanizing communities. MC

The month of September is designated as the country’s clean up month as a reminder that there is a need to integrate the value of community cleanliness for every Filipino. If we observe our bodies of water – the rivers, the streams, the coasts – cleanliness is obviously not observed. In fact, the Pasig River in Metro Manila, has been identified as one of the top ten bodies of water that has polluted the oceans with plastics, garbage, and other materials, which in most instances are not biodegradable. The problem is growing in proportion as the urbanization of places like Metro Manila also grows fast in recent years. This problem is not limited to Metro Manila alone. Almost all rivers that drain storm waters into bays have been polluted, causing severe flooding during rainy seasons. Even a cursory observation can give the conclusion that all these rivers and streams are dying due to pollution, and are in danger of dying. In Cotabato alone, the Rio Grande de Mindanao which through centuries have been emptying the catch basin of water flowing from the mountains of Bukidnon, is now in danger of decreasing this function. Of course, natural silting from the feeder rivers have caused the Rio Grande to flow over its capacity, which caused flooding in many communities along the river. But it cannot denied that these same communities are the source of pollutants that kills the river. People living in these communities throw their garbage into the river, particularly plastic items that prevents the flow of water. In the island communities of the BARMM, some parts of its coast are turning into massive garbage bins, which turn off tourists who wish to take a bath in its usual pristine waters.InMetro Manila, the focus of cleaning is on the Pasig River. As reported by the Philippine News Agency, the Pasig River rehabilitation initiative, a PHP2 billion project initiated by the San Miguel Corporation, in cooperation with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, aims to extract at least 600,000 metric tons of silt and solid waste per year, in order to clean up the waterway, help improve water quality and reduce flooding in several cities in Metro Manila. We still need an institution to act as lead agency in the cleaning and expansion of the Rio Grande. The LGUs along the river now and then comes up with a clean up drive to rid it of pollutants. But would this be enough to clean the area?

Former North Cotabato provincial agriculturist Antonio Balagot describe the system practiced by big banana plantations as “clean culture.” Unlike in rubber farms where cover crop under the trees are a common sight, one would see just bare, open ground under the plants in large banana farms. It is not hard for one to imagine water freely flowing down the slopes where the bananas are planted carrying with it topsoil during heavy rains. All these eventually find its way to small streams that feed small rivers that feed bigger rivers. It is a story we all know too well. September is celebrated by the Catholic Church as the Season of Creation. Pope Francis in his message on September 1, World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation, said the season encourages us “to end our superfluous and destructive goals and activities, and to cultivate values, connections and activities that are life-giving. We must examine our habits of energy usage, consumption, transportation, and diet. We must eliminate the superfluous and destructive aspects of our economies, and nurture life-giving ways to trade, produce, and transport goods.” Are we up to it?

The Concept of ‘Peace Table’ and of reaching-out (kapamalisa) to bridge understanding is a longlost culture among the local Muslims. Long before we would host western peace experts to mentor us, the local Muslims already observed and practiced cordiality in kinship, information-sharing, consultation, and amity in trade by the “Kudungan” Table, as well as by the designation of “Padian” or market day to each of the town centers for fair distribution of the fruits of local economy. Among the Taosugs of Sulu, tough as they are in many battles as told in many narratives, is the heart’s soft spot in human character that is firmly enshrined in Muslim tradition: To them, Hariraya Puasa (Eild’l Fitr) and Hariraya Haji (Eid’l Adha) is not just a tradition of festivities, but also an occasion of humility. Families or individuals, who thought they have had previous misgivings with another person or family, would step toward reaching out to the other side to make amends. The practice is not quite distinct to them, but among the great pre-colonial nations, the Taosugs have preserved this to this day. Sadly, these old practices slowly vanish in our environs, because even the habit of extending the “Peace Greetings” has become discriminatory: It is restrained by mere perception or assumption of “hypocrisy” by one party toward the other; as opposed to the Prophet’s (Peace and Blessings be upon him) teachings to extend the peace greetings even to children. Now, with due respect many are afraid of “hypocrites” and reserve the peace greetings (quite exclusively), over broad probability of discord from consequences of “un-peace”—even among members of a singleLocalfamily.researchers and scholars are very much able to do peace papers on “conflict management” in the context of such local culture and tradition. But between an outsider and a Moro individual like Prof. Mansoor Limba and or any of his peers in the academe, the choice of our fledgling institutions is obvious. But if stronger push of peace efforts were opted for in September 2008, the story of the late Ustadz Ameril Kato Ombra would have been differently told today. Conflict management through voluntary reaching out by one party to another translates to “kabpalisaya”

The truth is that even in the tradition of betrothal (“pamahikan” in Tagalog, or “pangengedong” in the local vernacular), such words are designated to the backburner. Neither the party of the visitors nor of the host utter the word for the deeds of “pangengedong.” In other words, they don’t make the apparent more obvious; as the deed, the act speaks more elaborately, if but more succinctly enunciate.Prof.Limba has a collection of bayuk (prose) which he has transcribed from original lines in Maguindanaon, translated and annotated. His book “m’bayuka tanu,” has its title from the root-word “bayuk” which had been the primary language tool of euphemism in Moro conflict management, even among the Sultans’ jurists in the old Agama Court of the Traditional Luwaran Code of Maguindanao. The Luwaran Code’s counterpart in the Sulu Sultanate is the ancient Diwan Code. Indeed, some of the speech lines whether in a betrothal or in peace dialogue are literarily dimmed for the witnessing laypersons in occasional exchanges of prose between the traditional party representatives—so that none may be offended as they get into the main course of the dialogue.

THE BAD NEWS: Prices of commodities are not only rising, we are running out of supplies. Rice, Sugar, chicken, onions, salt. There is so much sea surrounding our island, why should we source our salt from somewhere else? The peso dips to 57.99 to the dollar, as of today. Happy the OFW, but the purchasing power of the peso shall suffer, every commodity shall be more expensive.

That wise men would rather adviseTake your time nice-and-easy, and don’t rush-up as most rookies do to obtain fame and fortune. For there is perfect time and season for everything, as in time to be born and a time to die which is life’s reality. That we invoke the Author of Life: LORD, teach us to number our days that we may gain a heart of Your wisdom on what life really is all about? We encounter sayings of encouragement to those who doubt and fear to continue righteousness via good deeds for there’s “Light at the end of a tunnel.” And, in like manner, at “The end of a rainbow is a pot of gold.”The world’s numerous quotable quotes come and go as time goes by but God’s WORD will remain forever even if all visible things gone (Matthew 24:35). In the end, the living and the dead, irrespective of persons, will be judged according to their individual works attuned to the Holy Scriptures and recorded in the Book of Life. The process known as The White Throne Judgment has been reserved for a day for the whole human race (Revelation 20:11-15; Acts 17:31). Since time immemorial, humanity’s blame and complain on issues concerning peace, justice, unity and coexistence never end, that until now government and non-government despite frequent reorganization are still into it. Why? Are we in the last days of perilous times? A biblical warning to check if the world has become lovers of self and money, proud and arrogant, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy, without mercy and self-control, brutal, despisers, traitors and lustful. Always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of Truth (2 Timothy 3:1-7). The above prophetic signs were designed for the wicked and adulterous generation. For Christ, who suffered and died to redeem humanity of their sinful disobedience said: “Whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it” (Matthew 16:25). Other Signs of the Times as foretold reads: “Take heed that no one deceives you. For many will come in My name, saying I am the Christ and will deceive many. And you will hear of wars and its rumors, but don’t be troubled for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. “For nation will rise against nation and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines or starvation, pestilences or plagues and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of sorrows. Many will be offended and will betray one another. Many false prophets will rise-up to deceive and lawlessness will abound; and the love for one another will grow cold. But whoever endures to the end shall be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all nations, and then the end will come.” (Matthew 24:4-14) The penultimate end of the world is through the so-called Great Tribulation with intense heat that “such has not been since the beginning of the world until this time nor ever shall be. That unless those days were shortened, no flesh would be saved. But for the elect-sake, those days will be shortened” (Matthew 24:21-22).

FIRST, THE GOOD NEWS: Pinoy pole vaulter EJ Obiena leapt 5.91 m to outscore Sweden and world record holder Arman Duplantis with 5.81 m in Brussels Wanda Diamond League. So far, the 26 year old Obiena have won four golds in his last four tournaments including the Diamond League in Brussels. His gold streak ended when he cleared 5.81 meters on his second attempt to gain his 6th medal in two weeks. Menno Vloon of Netherlands took the gold after clearing 5.88m with ease, while Australia’s Kurtis Marschall took the last spot with 5.81 meters on three tries.

Your digestive system is made up of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract and your liver, pancreas and gallbladder. The GI tract is a series of hollow organs that are connected to each other from your mouth to your anus. The organs that make up your GI tract, in the order that they are connected, include your mouth, esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine and anus. What does the digestive system do? Your digestive system is uniquely constructed to do its job of turning your food into the nutrients and energy you need to survive. And when it’s done with that, it handily packages your solid waste, or stool, for disposal when you have a bowel movement. Why is digestion important? Digestion is important because your body needs nutrients from the food you eat and the liquids you drink in order to stay healthy and function properly. Nutrients include carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins, minerals and water. Your digestive system breaks down and absorbs nutrients from the food and liquids you consume to use for important things like energy, growth and repairing cells. What organs make up the digestive system?

The prophetic scenario is likened to the LORD’s Day that “will come as a thief in the night in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise and the elements will melt with fervent heat, both the earth and the works that are in it will be burnedup” (2 John 3:10). These biblical quotes may sound pessimistic to instill fear but is contrary to that famous health-wise saying –“Prevention is better than cure.” And with an optimistic punctual reminder when the LORD said: “Do not fear those who kill the body, but cannot kill the soul. Rather fear God who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell” (Matthew 10:28). Finally, “Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of this prophesy and keep those things which are written on it, for the time is near” (Revelation 1:3). csenase@yahoo.com

The main organs that make up the digestive system (in order of their function) are the mouth, esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine, rectum and anus. Helping them along the way are the pancreas, gall bladder and liver. Common digestive system diseases (gastrointestinal diseases) and disorders include:

•Diverticulosis and diverticulitis: Diverticulosis and diverticulitis are two conditions that occur in your large intestine (also called your colon). Both share the common feature of diverticula, which are pockets or bulges that form in the wall of your colon.

“E state planning is an important and everlasting gift you can give your family. And setting up a smooth inheritance is not as hard as you might think.”-Suze Orman In previous articles, the focus of the discussion was on the ways and means for making money and increasing one’s wealth. Thus, we talked about good paying jobs, business ideas, and investment instruments available in the financial markets. There were also discussions on the importance of saving as the money we are able to accumulate would serve as capital for a business venture or for investing in stocks and other investment instruments. Normally, a Filipino starts seriously thinking about either starting a business or investing in stocks, government securities, mutual funds, and similar instruments when he or she is in the mod-30s or early 40s. Of course, it would have been better if one starts as early as possible since time is your ally in the effort to multiple the money that you have invested.Ideally, by the age of 50 or 55 years, one has accumulated enough money or created streams of income that could support him or her when retirement age comes and the person stops to work. The working years beyond that, until retirement sets, could be used to generate wealth to support one’s children or other dependents after he or she have passed away. Other culture believe that parents do not have obligation to support the children beyond providing for them before they reach the legal age and spending for their education. It is not uncommon for those in Western countries to leave behind their wealth to charitable institutions, non-relatives, or even to animals. But in the Filipino culture, there is an expectation or a practice of parents still taking care of their children even though the latter had been legally emancipated. We are still concerned with the welfare of our children and hope to support them as much as we could.Parents that were able to accumulate some amount of wealth must ensure that such would be orderly and fairly passed on to their heirs. They should not leave a situation where the heirs would be legally or physically fighting over the wealth left behind, whether substantial or small. The preparation of tasks that serve to manage one’s asset base in the event of his/her incapacity or death is called estate planning. This type of planning does not only cover what happens after a person dies but also manages his affairs in case, he becomes incapacitated by accident or illness.Itinvolves the distribution of assets among the heirs, the settlement of inheritance taxes, among others. Estate planning and the execution of the plan is best done with the assistance of a lawyer or by one with sufficient knowledge in estate law and the administration of properties. What are the essentials of a good estateEstateplan? planning should cover how an individual’s assets will be preserved, managed, and distributed after death or in the event they become incapacitated.Awillshould also be prepared to lay down what and how much money or property goes to which heir or other beneficiaries.Itshould also cover how minor children, if any, should be taken cared of and by Provisionwhom.for payment of estate taxes should also be considered. A little bit of showbiz: A pompous wedding in Balisin , a luxurious house, expensive imported shoes and bags, designer clothes, are every girl’s dream. But, these are no guarantee for a happy married life, as Heart Evangelista seems to realize at the moment. I think we should leave her alone to sort out her life. WHERE DOES THIS FALL? Three years into the pandemic, and without letting our guard down, staying home most of the time, keeping people at a distance, masks, shields, washing hands, alcohol and sanitizer always on hand, complete vaccinations, exercise, sunshine, loads of vitamins did not keep COVID-19 away from me. I am ashamed to say I caught SARS-COV-2 in the first week of August, a pharmacist at that! I was looking forward to making a grand celebration of my 80 years milestone, confident that I am sheltered by all these medicines and health measures. Indeed the virus is vicious and nonselective. I pride myself of a strong and healthy Ilocano stock, and a simple healthy lifestyle. For 6 days, except a 38 degree fever, I was asymptomatic, I shared our bed with my husband. I was in denial. Suddenly it dawned on me that I could have Covid. We both underwent the Antigen Test whereby thank goodness he was negative while I was positive. I went immediately into isolation, and took advantage of many of the books I wanted to read, but did not have the luxury of time. I had become more attached to my cell phone, more spiritually inclined and prayerful. Between monitoring my temperature, reading the oximeter, drinking lots of water, juices and soups, the days went by swiftly. I was diagnosed with basal pneumonia, a complication I was told. Dr. Conrad Uson at the Notre Dame Hospital took care of my illness. My warmest gratitude . Imagine, the Usons were our neighbors before when they were just kids, and now he was treating me!

Intel officials: Detained shabu peddler linked to BIFF

The 23-year-old Bomul Salunting was locked since in a detention facility here of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao. He has been charged with violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 right after he was arrested for selling half a kilo of shabu to non-uniformed PDEA-BARMM agents in a tradeoff in Barangay Rosary Heights 4 here. Army and police intelligence sources told reporters Tuesday Salunting, who hails from Talayan town in the first district of Maguindanao, remitted fractions of his earnings from his shabu sales to the outlawed Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters. The BIFF, fashioned from the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, is tagged in deadly bombings in central Mindanao since 2014. Army and police intelligence officials said Salunting shared proceeds of his shabu distribution to Imam Bongos, leader of one of three factions in the BIFF. Rogelito Daculla, PDEA-BARMM director, said the entrapment operation that led to Salunting’s arrest was premised on tips from people privy to his shabu distribution activities in the city and in nearby Maguindanao towns.

MILF in Transition: Forging Unity through Consultative Process and Collective Leadership" was the theme of the summit held at the Shariff Kabunsuan Complex here. WITHOUT having noticed, the September 2, 1996 peace pact between the government and the Moro National Liberation Front turned 26 years on Friday last Thereweek.was no pomp commemoration of its anniversary by officials and members of the MNLF. The government-MNLF truce is a product of 22 years of tedious talks. The now 26-year accord was premised on the December 23, 1976 government-MNLF “Tripoli Agreement” touted as the “mother of all agreements” between the group and the national government. The agreement, forged in the Libyan capital Tripoli, was brokered by Libya and other member-states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, comprised of Muslim countries, including wealthy petroleum-exporting states in the Middle East and North Africa. A senior MNLF official, Romeo Sema, who is a member of the interim 80-seat Bangsamoro regional parliament, said they commemorated the 26th anniversary of their final peace pact with Malacañang silently, but with utmost optimism that President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. will sustain its dividends achieved over the years.“Letus together nurture the seed of peace we planted 26 years ago for it to bear fruits for all,” Sema, MNLF vice chairman for political affairs, said. Sema has reassured of their support to the peace programs for southern Moro communities of the newly-elected Philippine president. “We shall also help move forward the peace and development initiatives of the regional government of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao under the leadership of our brothers in the Moro Islamic Liberation Front,” Sema said. MNLF chair Muslimin Sema, also BARMM labor minister, said the biggest challenge lying ahead of them is how to preserve the gains of their peace agreement with the government. “The next episode is how to protect the gains of the peace agreement. That, for us, is like a travel through a long and winding road. There are some parts of the now 26-year peace agreement that are still to be fully implemented,” Chairman Sema said. He also emphasized that the MNLF is a partner of the MILF in furthering peace and sustainable development in towns and provinces inside BARMM’s core territory. The MILF, headed by Ahod Ebrahim, have separate peace compacts with Malacañang - the 2012 Framework Agreement on Bangsamoro and, subsequently, the 2014 Comprehensive Agreement on Bangsamoro. Ebrahim is also BARMM chiefTheminister.MILF’s peace overture with the government, which started on February 7, 1997, also lasted for 22 years and led to the creation of BARMM in 2019. The BARMM replaced then the less politically and administrativelyempowered Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, more known as the ARMM.
