How can I get into the industry?
Hairstylist or barber is an excellent career for on-the-job training and there are many apprenticeships and job vacancies available at all levels. Beauty Therapy apprenticeships are slightly less plentiful but do exist. Some beauty students go on to take a foundation degree in aesthetics.
Highlights Course
Our study programmes are developed in collaboration with local employers to gain insight into what skills and knowledge employers are looking for to support employability following completion of your course.

Assignments are planned with one of our local employers, Naked Hair & Beauty Salon in Northampton, to ensure our students have the knowledge and skills needed to start work.
Our students get to hear from expert speakers, like GHD, who previously came in to teach our students how to use their range of heated tools safely and effectively.
Other expert speakers include Anne Veck, an award-winning hairdresser from Oxford, who came in to give our students training on a variety of hair types, with an emphasis on Type 4 (coily) hair. She discussed the services and products that are suited for this type of hair.
Our students regularly enter hairdressing competitions. For 2023’s Inspire competition, we entered the Art of Women’s Hairdressing category and were declared runners-up.

Case study: Harry, Barbering, Level 2
“I have really enjoyed my course over the past two years and have met some wonderful people along the way that have supported and believed in me and have helped me through difficult times.
Truthfully, I picked barbering because I needed to apply to something after school. I never thought I was going to enjoy doing it. But, since then I have become very passionate about the subject and have really enjoyed learning to cut people’s hair. Enrolling into college to do it has probably been one of my best choices”
