Outreach Community Healthcare Centers break ground on new facility
On Tuesday, March 15, 2022, community leaders and Outreach Community Healthcare Centers (OCHC) marked the groundbreaking of a new 58,000 square-foot addition at 210 W Capitol Dr. Among those at the groundbreaking were Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley; Froedtert Health Community Engagement Director Monique Graham; U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin's Milwaukee Office Director Tiffany Henry; OCHC Board Chair Warner Jackson; Glendale Mayor Bryan Kennedy; interim Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson; OCHC Board Director Emeritus Donald Cohan; OCHC Board Member Carla Y. Cross; OCHC CEO and CCO Angela Sanders, Psy.D; Bank Photo by Yvonne Kemp First Marketing Senior Vice President Aaron Faulkner; and Ascension WI Community Clinic Operations Director Robert Ramerez. The facility is set to open by the summer of 2023.
'We Are the Drum' returns to live performances in 2022

On Friday, March 11 through Sunday March 13, 2022, CAPITA Productions presented "We Are The Drum 2022," at Milwaukee Marshall High School, 4141 N. 64th Street. "We Are The Drum" is now in its 28th season and these were the first live performances since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. The previous year's show had been held virtually online. The show is a musical journey of the Black experience in America with 50 performers ranging in age from 3 to 93 years old. This year's production, "Remember, Honor and Inspire," centered on COVID-19 and the summer uprising stemming from the death of George Floyd in 2020 as well as the murder of Emmett Till, nearly 67 years ago. CAPITA's mission to be a theater for and by the people. Anyone who wants to explore their acting, singing and dancing chops can audition and be in the play, which embodies the spirit of community theater.
Milwaukee Academy of Science Youth win Silver Ball during State Championship On Saturday, March 19, 2022, 20 bright and talented young men of color from Milwaukee Academy of Science competed for WIAAWI Division 4 Basketball State Championship and won the "Silver Ball," in Madison. Most of the young men on the Novas team are freshman. They have worked incredibly hard this year to get where they are, and Milwaukee Academy of Science President and CEO Anthony McHenry has been doing a great job with them at the school. This is the first time in school history the Novas have gone to state to compete. "They are an amazing group of young men," said Curt Hansen, School Athletic Director.
