Mill Steel Named BEST & Brightest Elite Winner for Community Initiatives At the West Michigan’s Best and Brightest Companies to Work For annual symposium held May 5th, Mill Steel was announced an Elite winner in the Community Initiatives category! There were 13 Elite winners chosen from a total of 116 companies honored in the region. The Michigan Business and Professional Association (MBPA) cited Mill Steel’s longstanding partnership with DA Blodgett—St. John’s, the Harry and Edith Samrick Scholarship—which provides tuition support to one deserving individual from the Big Brothers Big Sisters program each year—and the company’s overall efforts in supporting the communities in which they operate as reasoning for the award.

Monday, July 11th, 2016 — Blythefield Country Club As many of you know, the Big Brothers, Big Sister’s program at D.A. Blodgett – St. John’s is 100% funded by gifts, grants, and events like Golf for Kids’ Sake. Thanks to the generosity of Mill Steel’s friends and business partners, this outing has raised over $1.75 million dollars to date!

This support means so much to this exemplary organization, but especially to the kids and families helped through these programs. In 2015 our collective gift helped match 243 kids with mentors, and supported 266 current matches – that’s hundreds of lives YOU helped on their path to success!

In conjunction with the outing, Mill Steel will also be hosting a golf clinic for 10-12 matches from the Big Brothers Big Sisters program on June 25th at Blythefield Country Club. The matches will be treated to a pizza party, followed by a golf lesson and conclude with a refreshing swim in the pool! The clinic is always a fun summer activity for the Bigs and Littles to enjoy together.

This year marks the 20th Anniversary milestone of the Mill Steel Company Golf for Kids’ Sake event. Together, we can make a significant difference in the lives of children!

Associate Highlight

Kim Creek — Outside Sales

As an Account/Inventory Manager for Mill Steel Building Products, please tell us what your role entails.

In my hybrid role, I continue to work closely with a few key accounts. I also manage inventory levels, work with the sales team on forecasting, and monitor aged inventory.

What are your career goals in the coming year?

My goal for the coming year is to ensure the Building Products Division maintains optimal inventory levels to meet the needs of our customers. I will be working closely with sales and purchasing to achieve this goal.

Who do you work closely with every day that helps in your role?

Most of my days are spent on the phone working with purchasing, account managers, and inside sales, in order to take care of the customers the best that we can.

What are your personal goals for the next year?

I have so many! We are planning on moving so finding a house is a top priority. I also set a goal to walk/run 1,000 miles this year outside of my normal daily activity, and of course to stress less.

Tell us about your family. Any activities or favorite things you enjoy with them?

My husband Bryan and I have been together for 8 years. I have 3 step children; Brianna (20) is just finishing her second year at Elmhurst College, Christian (17) just graduated high school and will start at College of Dupage this fall, and Abby (14) is finishing up her freshman year of high school. Let’s not forget the family favorite, our 2-year-old Yorkiepoo, Cross. Our family enjoys watching movies together, game nights, walking Cross and volunteering.

If money was not an issue, what would you do for a living?

Since I am a big fan of HGTV, I would spend time renovating houses or helping families make the most out of the space they have by

everal members of our Anderson team—Mike Evans, Scott King, and Justin Rummell—represented Mill Steel in the 23rd Annual PMA Tennessee District Golf Outing on May 2nd. In a rain shortened tournament, the team shot 9 under par through 13 holes and took first place out of 38 teams! In addition to the tournament victory, Scott King won closest to the pin and Justin Rummell won the putting competition. Dave McCoun also attended in support of the PMA. The event raised over $8,000 for scholarships to be distributed to disadvantaged children. Overall a great event and all awards were donated back to the PMA. From left to right: Michael

GOLF OUTING

n April 28th, students from Northview High School toured our Grand Rapids facility as part of a field trip organized by the West Michigan District of Precision Metalforming Association (PMA). The field trip was intended to expose high school students to potential career opportunities in manufacturing and learn about the automotive industry supply chain. The visit included a presentation on Mill Steel by Jim Murray followed by a Q&A session, as well as plant tours led by Mike Jubenville and Nate Muirhead.

Although we use email every single day as a method of communication, Carl explained the importance of picking up the phone and forming relationships. Whether it is with coworkers, customers, or suppliers, calling someone every once in a while can make a world of a difference in your business relationships!

Carl continued his conversation about “us” by asking everyone to think about the three most important questions in life. He closed with these three questions that can be applied in both your personal and work life. They can be used to evaluate and work through all situations you encounter –



On April 18th, Tod McKirnan and Adam Saunders represented Steel Structural Products at Design Columbus. This event is a full day of educational seminars along with a tradeshow that provides professionals involved in the building industry an opportunity to learn and engage. Tod is a member of the committee that organizes the show, which is a joint venture between the Construction Specifications Institute and the U.S. Green Building Council – Central Ohio Chapter. He explained that the committee’s vision is to expand the reach of the show from just Columbus to all of Ohio. While Tod volunteered in registering attendees, Adam staffed the booth, which had significant foot traffic with roughly 500 people attending the show! The audience consisted mostly of architects and engineers that need continuing education units (CEU), along with students pursuing Construction Management degrees at local colleges. The event was a great opportunity for Adam and Tod to meet many architects and promote the SSP name.

Our Mill Steel softball team is at it again!

They’ve started their season through the Rec Sports League with an impressive 3-1 record.

The team consists of 10 Mill Steelers: Kristin Cole, Paul Dooge, Mitch Ganzon, Megan Gillespie, Kristi Hagyard, Zach Lee, Aaron Lincoln, Julianne Potvin, Theresa Rigoni, and Sam Wilkening. Team Captain Paul Dooge comments, “I hope the team can step it up as the season goes on!” Good luck to the team on their six remaining games!

Congratulations to Rachael and Terry Rudd on the announcement of their first child, Perry Dean, due July 4th! Some Mill Steelers from the GR facility threw her a baby shower with many friends and family in attendance.
