We are pleased to announce the opening of our new facility in Houston, Texas!

The new 100,000 square-foot facility houses three production lines with the capability of slitting 50,000 lb. master coils up to 60” wide and .015-.250” thick.

We plan to add additional roll forming lines in the near future to expand our Steel Structural Products operations.

We will distribute our entire product line from this new location, including hotrolled, cold-rolled, painted, and coated steel. We will maintain a large painted product inventory, with a full complement of paint systems and codes.

This development supports our construction, automotive, oil country tubular goods (OCTG), agriculture and HVAC business in the Southern United States and Mexico. Furthermore, the geographic advantages and strategic proximity to the Port of Houston enhances our distribution efforts.

Seasoned Production Manager, Mike Tomasaitis, was promoted to Plant Manager of our Houston facility. Mike was a key contributor in the launch of the Jeffersonville facility in 2014, and he brings a wealth of operational knowledge to help lead the team.

“The addition of this location represents Mill Steel's entry into the significant Southern United States market and furthers our customer and product diversification”, said David Samrick. He adds, “We are very pleased to enter this robust commercial territory, which allows us to grow and support our existing customer base.”

What is your role here at Mill Steel?

My role here at Mill Steel is Maintenance Coordinator. I travel to all of the plants and set up our new web-based management system for our maintenance team.

I facilitate and manage the system for each plant.

What do you like best about your job?

What I like most about my job is seeing

all of the different plants and meeting the people I had previously only had phone conversations with when I worked in Quality.

It's nice to put faces to the names.

What is the biggest challenge?

The hardest part of the job was learning the intricacies of the maintenance system, and determining how to make it more efficient for our specific application of the program.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?

I would probably visit Australia and New Zeeland.

What profession other than your own would you like to attempt?

I wanted to be a veterinarian when I was

I grew up in Warren, which is just outside of Detroit. I have a younger brother who lives in Kansas City.

A little known fact is that I’ve been to England, France, Germany, Switzerland, Japan, Italy, Ireland, Mexico, and Austria.

June Monthly Business Brief:

GIVE 2 GET

June’s Monthly Business Brief introduced the Give 2 Get program – a new benefit that allows associates to earn vacation days through community involvement. Associates have the opportunity to earn additional days off by participating in various community outreach events, each with an assigned point value. Every 6 points earned will give an associate 1 day off, with a max of 18 points. Here are the ways points can be earned: • Participating in a Recoiler event (i.e. Free Throw Competition, Putt-Putt Contest) = 1 point • Participating in a Recoiler planned group volunteer opportunity = 2 points -These will take place on a monthly basis outside of normal work hours.

• Two hours of service at an eligible charity = 1 point - There are preapproved lists for all associates to pick from. Exceptions to the list can be

reviewed for eligibility and are subject to approval.

Community service hours should be documented on the community outreach timesheet and turned in to Amanda Allspach. Participation is entered in Mill Steel University (MSU) by Troy Mossel and the points each associate has accumulated will be displayed on their MSU dashboard. Once 6, 12 or 18 points have been earned, associates are able to cash them in for a “Redemption Coupon” which documents their time off. The coupon is to be filled out, signed, and turned in to Sam Darrow with the usual Vacation Request Form.

Plant associates are eligible for the program and encouraged to participate. The plant guidelines are slightly different and can be reviewed in the Give 2 Get Program Outline on Millnet. The full program details, list of eligible charities and timesheet can be found on Millnet through the HR page under “Forms”. The folder is labeled Give 2 Get. Name: Anthony Everage Location & Department: Jeffersonville / Shift Supervisor Anthony is newly married, he has one brother and two amazing parents. He and his wife also have a dog that he describes as a ‘brat’ because she thinks she runs the house. Anthony’s hobbies include hunting, fishing, and sports. His favorite food is steak because he loves to grill. He is self-motivated and doesn’t like to settle for less!

Name: Sharon Warner Location & Department: Grand Rapids / Accounting Sharon has two boys; her oldest son recently graduated from college and her youngest son will be a senior this year. Sharon has a 6-year-old Golden Retriever named Buddy. and a cat named Milky Way. In her free time, Sharon likes to read, go for bike rides, garden, and be outside. She loves snowmobiling in the UP and camping or traveling with her family. She is very active in volunteering with her son's school and activities. An interesting fact about Sharon is that in July she will have her associates degree in Accounting!

Name: William Hodge Location & Department: Jeffersonville / Pack line William is married to his wife Krista and together they have two daughters, Kylie Rae and Kennedi Mae. They have two dogs, Tobi and Kopper, and a Rabbit named Mickey.

William’s hobbies include sports, working out, and video games. William’s favorite food is anything tasty, because he likes to eat.

Name: Josh Ratliff Location & Department: Jeffersonville / Maintenance Josh’s father is a welder, his mom is a factory worker, and he has one sister who works as a quality control technician. Outside of work, Josh likes to work on vehicles and farms part-time. His favorite food is chicken!

Carrie’s husband is a former Marine and they are no strangers to moving or deployments. They have a pet Chihuahua named Spartacus, he is seven-years-old, gentle, and not yappy! Carrie loves theme parks and water parks. She and her husband alternate visiting Universal Studios and Disney World. An interesting fact about Carrie is that she’s going back to school at the University of Louisville to study Human Resources, and her favorite food is BBQ thanks to her southern roots!

Name: Rich Farina Location & Department: Houston / Sales Rich joins Mill Steel with 25 years of experience in the steel service center industry. He is married to his wife, Erin, and together they have a daughter named Brooke (8) and a son named Dayne (6). Rich is a sports enthusiast, he enjoys golfing and is a huge fan of Houston's professional teams. His family also has a Dachshund puppy named Buddy! An interesting fact about Rich is that he was captain of the Midwestern State University basketball team, played in the NAIA Final Four, and was invited to both CBA (minor league) try-outs and the Houston Rockets Summer League.

Name: Art Tomes Location & Department: Houston / Sales Art joins Mill Steel with over 41 years of experience in the steel industry! He has been married to his beautiful wife Mary for 46 years. Together they have three children. Their two sons, Michael (Texas grad) and Stephen (Arizona State grad), both live in Las Vegas and work in the concierge business. Their daughter Lindsay (SFA grad) lives in Dayton, TX and is a social worker. Art is also the proud grandfather of two wonderful grandkids and he loves spending time with them. Art enjoys hunting, fishing, golfing, and working out. An interesting fact about Art is that he graduated from the University of South Carolina and loves to root for the Gamecocks!

Name: John Kinley Location & Department: Jeffersonville / Maintenance John has been married to his lovely wife for 26 years. Together they have three kids and two grandkids. Outside of work John enjoys the outdoor life, camping, and shooting.

John’s family also has a pet dog.

ANNOUNCEMENTS Mill Steelers Softball Update

Mill Steel Co-Ed softball team started their quest for a championship in May. They put up eight runs in the first inning of the season opener. The prompt scoring accompanied with stellar defense from 3rd baseman Kristin “The Vacuum” Cole, was enough to earn a 12-2 victory.

Poor defense and lack luster hitting set the tone for the Mill Steelers 1-5 loss the following week. The loss shook the team, but they bounced back nicely in their 3rd contest. Team ace, Mitchel “Meeechum” Starback, threw a gem, and Sam “The Giant” Wilkening’s hot bat powered the Mill Steelers as they won a nail biter in come from behind fashion, 4-3.

In their 4th contest of the year, the Mill Steelers found themselves in a barnburner. Hot bats and a change of offensive philosophy powered the team to a rousing 17-11 win. First year 2nd baseman, Kristi Hagyard, played stellar defense, leading the team with three outs.

The team battled to victory with aggressive base running and solid defense in a low scoring affair, 5-2.

At the halfway point of the season, the team holds a 4-1 record. Be sure to get out and support them when they take the diamond next at the Rec League Sports Fields off West River Dr. in Rockford! The next game is on July 10th at 7:45pm on Field 1. Admission is free and parking is often readily available.

Lucie Mae

Congratulations to the proud parents, Patrick and Jessica Whitehair on their beautiful baby girl, Lucie Mae. She arrived weighing 8 lbs 11 oz and 19 1/2 in long. Mom, baby, and dad are all doing well!

Contest Corner

This month’s Contest Corner features Mill Steel’s Second Annual Cornhole Tournament! Bags were flying and smiles were aplenty earlier this month as the contest heated up on the front lawn. After the dust settled, two teams were left to face off in the finals. Team Tito Toast, comprised of Brian Berndt and Tim VanWingerden vs. Better Then Dooge, with Alex Krestakos and Joe Poot. Team Better Than Dooge took an early lead in the match and never looked back, comfortably cruising to victory. Mill Steel matched and donated all proceeds to Alzheimer’s Association (AA) – Greater Michigan Chapter.

Throughout Q3, we were able to raise $2,400 for the AA! Thank you to all for your participation and donations! Be sure to sign up for next month’s contest, Office Olympics!

Hurricane Cindy

While down in Houston helping to get our new facility up to par, Larry Czajkowski just barely escaped tropical storm Cindy. Luckily, he made it home to Melvindale safely!

The team made him this t-shirt to commemorate the day.

Each quarter an associate from every plant and the corporate office are recognized for their exceptional performance for our company. This award was previously known as the “Recognition Program”, but we’ve rebranded it as Prime Performers because much like the prime steel we buy and sell, these team members shine bright for going above and beyond in their daily duties. The winners will now be featured altogether in the Recoiler at the beginning of the quarter. Along with their write up, each person receives a prime parking spot and a $200 Visa gift card. Tyler Burns "Tyler Burns has grown into an exemplary team player within his first year of service with Mill Steel. He is always there to help others when needed. Tyler started on the 72” slitter as a set-up man and quickly showed talent within his daily duties. He began training as an operator last December and is currently the 2nd shift Operator, working hard to keep the machine running smoothly and producing quality product. Outside of work, he lives with his wife and daughter. Golf is a staple in his weekends during the summer. Thank you for all that you do Tyler!"

Layne Jefferson "Layne Jefferson runs lead on our pack line, which is a key role in Anderson as it can see up to 500 coils in a shift. He does an awesome job with efficiency and accuracy, keeping all the different orders and instructions straight. He is one of our last set of eyes for quality inspections and quite often saves a job from going out the door with an issue. Layne and his wife have four children. He spends a lot of time with his kids and working on home projects. He is an avid Indiana Hoosier basketball fan and does not mind talking smack with anyone. Thank you for your dedication, Layne!"

Taylor Keefer "Taylor Keefer has taken the time and initiative to get involved in cost saving measurables that are instrumental to the company. Her attention to detail and keen eye for problem solving has helped all departments work together to find ways to be more efficient. In collaborating with her coworkers and customers, she saved the company a tremendous amount during the last two years. Most recently, she started a meeting between the ISR’s and the Logistics department to attack difficult lanes and help make them more efficient, which has the potential to save thousands of dollars.
