We had a great turnout at our 21st Annual Golf For Kids’ Sake outing in support of D.A. Blodgett – St. John’s Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) Program. The event once again took place at Blythefield Country Club on Monday, July 10th. During the program, David Samrick spoke from his heart on what makes the BBBS program so special and why it is a staple in our philanthropic identity. Guests also heard from Big Brother Troy Mossel, and his Little Brother Khalil, about the bond they formed through the workplace mentoring program, Bigs In Business (BIB). Troy shared how the experience has made him a better person and Khalil commented on how valuable BIB has been for him. They are now a community-based match and continue their friendship outside of Mill Steel. Next, David and Pam presented the Harry H. Samrick Scholarship Fund, which is awarded to one young adult in the BBBS program each year to cover the cost of tuition at a local university or college. This year’s scholarship winner was Kayla, who plans to attend Grand Rapids Community College to pursue a degree in social work so she can help others. Thanks to the generosity of our friends, business partners, and associates, we were able to donate $201,090 this year! Thank you to all that donated and helped make GFKS another great success! In concert with the GFKS event, Mill Steel was also the host to a golf clinic for matches in the BBBS program on June 24th. Blythefield Country Club PGA Teaching Professional, Mr. Ryan Rothman, and staff were on hand to provide top instruction. Ryan worked with the kids on chipping, putting, and driving the ball. After golf lessons, our guests enjoyed a pizza buffet that included prizes! The rest of the afternoon was spent enjoying the pool and beautiful sunny weather. All of our visitors had a great time!
