I like that I have someone TO TALK TO ABOUT MY FUTURE.
The next visit on March 17th went just as smooth. The kids learned about how to get their first job. A group of four Mill Steelers (Heather Hammond, Sherry Poll, Kevon Schwaiger and Larry Tiffany) presented resources for finding a job, resume building, and interviewing. Most of the Littles are looking for a summer job so the topic hit home and was very useful for them. During the third and fourth weeks, Bigs covered the topics of finances and leadership. The finance lesson led by Noah Armstrong, Nate Muirhead, and Teresa Rigoni explained topics like credit, student loans, and interest rates. What was anticipated to be a dull topic for them, actually proved to be question invoking and engaging! The latest meeting on leadership presented by Amanda Massar, Mark Etherton, and Casey VerStrate taught key characteristics of being a leader. They encouraged the students to be respectful, trustworthy, and strive to be the best they can be.

Two meetings remain in the program – May 12th, and May 26th – and as the friendships continue to blossom, the Bigs are sad the program is winding down. However, everyone looks forward to continuing this great partnership in the fall! Article by: Amanda Allspach
