The office was full of Halloween spirit this year as Mill Steelers came dressed in costume for the big day! Along with costumes, we had our very own costume catwalk, and several people competed in the appetizer and dessert contest - arguably the office's favorite part of the festivities! There were so many great costumes and treats that it was a very difficult decision for voters. A big thank you to those who brought tasty food for all to enjoy! Below is a rundown of the competition winners:

Associate Highlight Gorman Morris, Building Products Account Manager from us. I love the challenge and the thrill of the hunt!

What is the biggest challenge?

My biggest challenge is working to gain business from new accounts.

Once I get them hooked on the Mill Steel way and how we roll, it’s all over!

Where are you from and who makes up your family?

Gorman and his wife, Heather, enjoying a boat ride!

What is your role here at Mill Steel?

I am an Account Manager for Mill Steel’s Building Product Group (BPG) and I work out of our Houston, TX location. My main objective is finding new accounts and building relationships that turn into longterm partnerships. With that said, most of my long-time customers and I have become great friends!

What do you like best about your job?

There is so much to like about my job that it is hard to find what I like best.

First and foremost, is the culture at Mill Steel. When I first started, over a year ago now, I was welcomed in like family and that goes a long way!

One of my favorite things is finding new accounts and showing them the value of Mill Steel so they buy

I was born and raised in Houston, TX, and my whole family is from Houston as well. We all live pretty close together. My family consists of my wife (Heather), daughter (Paige), mother (Shelley), father (Warren), brother (Morgan), and my grandmother (Carrol).

What is the most annoying question that people ask you?

One of the most annoying things people ask me is how old I am. I am 37, but for some reason people often think I am a lot younger than that. Not sure if that is a good or bad thing…

What job would you be terrible at?

I would be terrible at any job where I had to be inside all day. Luckily, for me that’s not the case!

What are you interested in that most people haven’t heard of?

Classic cars. Most people know I love to hunt and fish, but do not know how much I like classic cars. I actually have a 1968 Camaro that I hope to restore in the near future.

What are you most looking forward to in the next 10 years?

I look forward having my weekend getaway property in East Texas, about 90 miles from home. I hope to have 50 acres or so with a pond and trails that I can share with family and friends.

If you won the lottery, what would your life look like a year after you bring home the winnings?

First, I would buy a ranch in south Texas and a beach house. Other than that, I would do a lot of traveling and hunt and fish the rest of the time. I would also donate time and money to take veterans out fishing and hunting to enjoy the great outdoors!

Here's the scoop on recent role changes within our company.

Mike Jubenville was recently promoted to Spot Sales Manager and Senior Business Analyst. In this new role, Mike helps support spot quoting for the Houston and Anderson processing locations. In addition, he handles slit quoting for the Wholesale side of the business. He is also responsible for contract review and has some outside sales responsibilities as well. Congrats on your new role, Mike!

Name: Lenny Krische Location & Department: Grand Rapids / IT Lenny was born and raised in Grand Rapids, but now lives in Wyoming, MI. He has many hobbies including playing guitar and listening to a wide variety of music.

He also loves to spend time outdoors, fishing, hiking, and off-roading. Lenny has two dogs, a Toki-Shitzu toy Poodle and a Rottweiler black Lab mix. He enjoys exploring Grand Rapids to find new restaurants and activities to do with his friends and would someday like to travel to Calgary, British Columbia or Alaska to go hiking, sightseeing and of course fishing.

Name: Prentis Blackmon Location & Department: Jeffersonville / Shipping Prentis was born in Louisville, KY but was raised and currently resides in Jeffersonville, IN. He has three kids, two who are 27 and one who is 21. He enjoys chilling at home and watching sports, especially in the fall because the football season is starting. He prefers the comfort of home to traveling and would one day love to own his own house.

Name: Garret Howard Location & Department: Jeffersonville / Packline Garret lives in Jeffersonville, IN with his twoyear-old daughter Anastasia, his one-monthold daughter Ella and his girlfriend Brittney. He enjoys cooking, playing with his daughters and listening to music. Garret also enjoys the fall because of his birthday, the beautiful weather, and visiting the highlands in Kentucky to see the sites. He would someday like to visit another country and is a die-hard Kentucky Wildcat fan.

Name: Logan Meadows Location & Department: Jeffersonville / Shipping Logan is from Nashville but currently lives in Memphis Indiana. His hobby is power lifting and he has three dogs. His oldest dog is the mother of the two other dogs he has. Fall is his favorite season because he enjoys the perfect temperature, not too hot and not too cold. Lastly, his favorite place to eat is Blaze Pizza, he highly recommends it.

Tyler is a junior at Grand Valley State University and is currently double majoring in International Business and General Management with a minor in Spanish. He is from Sturgis, MI but enjoys living in Grand Rapids much more. He is also an active member of Alpha Sigma Phi fraternity where he participates in fundraising for Canine Companions for Independence. Last summer he joined his fraternity’s 8-day annual bike trip around Lake Michigan to present the money they raised over the year for CCI in Chicago. He said the trip was tough, but worth it to see the change they made in other people’s lives.

Name: Matt Schuiteman Location & Department: Grand Rapids / Logistics Intern Matt is a senior at Grand Valley State University, studying Supply Chain Management.

Matt is from Muskegon, MI. He enjoys hanging out with friends, playing or watching football, and golfing. His favorite season is summer because he enjoys outdoor activities and water sports. On his way home from work, Matt looks forward to spending time with family and friends. If he could cross one thing off of his bucket list, it would be sky diving!

Name: Kendall Taylor Location & Department: Jeffersonville / Packline Kendall lives with his dad, stepmom, and his two siblings in Jeffersonville, IN but is originally from Chicago, IL. He likes to play basketball, the video game 2K, or just hang out with his friends. His favorite season is summer because of his birthday and on his way home from work he looks forward to getting some sleep and seeing his family and pet Cockapoo, Stacy. One thing on Kendall’s bucket list is to travel to California.

Name: Jeffrey Lord Location & Department: OUtside Sales / Midwest Jeffrey and his wife moved to Indiana in 2002 from Bethlehem, PA and purchased their current home in Carmel, IN in 2004. His wife is an Office Manager for a commercial real estate company and their son is currently the General Manager and Sommelier at The Summit House Restaurant in Summit, NJ. Jeffery and his wife also have two cats.

He enjoys working out, biking, spinning and gardening. He especially enjoys the summer and spring months as this is when he can plant his flowers, and the winter months because of the holidays.

It's a Girl!

Congratulations to Clayton Morrison and Brittany Vanocker on the birth of their third child, Mina. She was born on October 9, 2018 at 2:52 pm. She weighed in at 6 lbs 9 oz and was 19.25” long. Mom and baby are doing great. Brother Marion and Sister Lola are enjoying being the big kids of the family now. Welcome to the Mill Steel family, Mina!

Mill steel on a Mission Marvins Bustamante from our Jeffersonville processing and distribution center recently traveled to the Dominican Republic with his church to build houses for those in need. He truly embraces the Mill Steel Norms and Values inside and outside of work. Way to go Marvins, and thank you for helping those in need!

Donation to Guiding Light Mission

Outside Sales Account Manager, Jim Murray, was instrumental in leading the West Michigan Chapter of the Precision Metalforming Association (PMA) in donating funds to the Guiding Light Mission, a local nonprofit in Grand Rapids that serves homeless males in the community struggling with addiction. Pictured to the right, Jim is handing off the check for $2,000 on behalf of the PMA to Nick Capasso and Brian Elve. The money will go towards the Back to Work Program, which provides a short-term stay for homeless men who are employed or seeking full-time employment, allowing them to save money while they look for more permanent housing.

This month’s Contest Corner featured a mesmerizing display of multi-ply mummifying madness!

Mummy wrap was the game and dizzy Mill Steelers were aplenty. After a whirlwind opening round, the contest was deemed a draw. Our illustrious judges determined a spin-off was in order. The finals featured teams comprised of Marie Peterson and Josh Ketchum vs. Russell Werra and Zach Lee. In the end, Zach and Russell had Mach 1 mummying speed and took the victory. All proceeds will be donated to Feeding America West Michigan. Make sure to keep an eye out for next month’s contest corner.

Anderson family Outing Our Anderson team enjoyed some quality time with family and fellow Mill Steelers on Thursday, October 25th! The team had a great time bowling!
