Another challenge is making my number one customer, Jason Meads, happy – he is a very grumpy man!

Where are you from and who makes up your family?

I grew up in Southeast Michigan and have now called the Birmingham area (Gardendale) home for the past three years. I have been married to my beautiful wife Andrieana for 17 years and have two wonderful children, Ty (14) and Avery (4).

How do you define success and how do you measure up to your own definition?

To live the lives we truly want and not just the lives we settle for. I choose to never settle and strive to always set my goals high.

What is your role here at Mill Steel?

I am the Birmingham Plant Manager. I supervise and organize the daily operations of the plant. I oversee all of the associates, and production schedules to make sure the plant is running productively and safely.

What do you like best about your job?

I enjoy being able to work with all different people throughout the company, from Logistics, Material Applications, Purchasing, etc. I also like being able to mentor and help people achieve their goals. I appreciate working for a company that gives you all the tools to make your job better.

What is the biggest challenge?

What job would you be terrible at?

Cleaning porta potties! I have a very weak stomach and they smell awful!

If you could be any fictional character, who would you choose and why?

Superman, the number one reason being his girlfriend is Superwoman!!! He is the most powerful super hero in the world.

Plus, with his extreme traveling speed I would never be late for ANYMORE sales meetings. Did I mention his girlfriend is Superwoman?

What profession other than your own would you like to attempt?

A lawyer; I enjoy arguing and I always think I’m right! Most of the time, I am!

Name: Alex Cunningham Location & Department: Jeffersonville / 78' Slitter Alex is originally from Sellersburg, IN but currently lives in Charlestown, IN. He loves to fish, hike and work with his family. In his free time, he likes to go to the gym. Alex has a Boxer named Athena who is very smart and has a crazy, hyperactive personality. He looks forward to football season and seeing his fiancé on his way home from a hard day at work. Overall, he really enjoys being at home relaxing.

Zach Lee

Taylor recently accepted a promotion as manager of the Building Products Inside Sales Team. Taylor started as an intern from Grand Valley State University and has been with the company four years. She has excelled as an assistant manager for the repeat side of the business and will add tremendous talent to the building products team as well. Congratulations on your new role Taylor!

Zach Lee was recently promoted to an Assistant Logistics Manager. Zach has been with Mill Steel’s logistic department for five years.

Zach’s focus will be primarily on the Southern operations, specifically, the Birmingham, Anderson and Houston operations. His strong work ethic will be a natural fit for this next step in his career. Congratulations Zach!

Mr. and Mrs. Seekell

Congratulations to David Seekell and his wife Gabby! They tied the knot on June 23rd, 2018 at Harbor Life Church in Grandville, MI. The reception took place at Cascade Hills Country Club, where the real party began. They took a “minimoon” to Traverse City, MI after their big day, but are planning an extended honeymoon to Italy in the fall. Congratulations to you both and we wish you the best of luck on your new journey!

Steeler Athletics

The Mill Steel softball team has had a rollercoaster start to the franchise’s fourth season. With several new additions to the roster, the team got off to a red hot 3-0 start. Diminutive, yet feisty, Team Manager Paul Dooge, was pressing all the right buttons and team chemistry was at an all-time high. A sterling outfield led by AllStar left fielder, Julianne Potvin, and first year player, Jared Boetsma, rarely see a ball drop on the turf. Newcomer Ben Fales at shortstop and second baseman, Kristi Hagyard, anchor the infield, making a potent double play combination.

The last three games have not been kind to the Mill Steel crew as they’ve dropped all three. Some untimely injuries and slumping batting averages have found the early dog days of summer unwelcoming to the squad. Sprits remain high as the team readies themselves for a major second half push in an effort to defend their 2017 Championship.

Be sure to make your way out to Shots on The River located on West River Drive in Comstock Park and support the team! Admission is free and parking is often readily available!

Contest Corner

This month’s edition of the Contest Corner featured a backyard classic, cornhole. The boards were bombarded with carefully tossed bags. Once the dust settled, two top-class-teams remained, Paul Dooge and Larry Tiffany (Bear and Cub) vs. Ben Fales and Jake Kozlowski (Casey and Nick's Worst Nightmare). After a long, healthy battle in the final, Paul came up short on his last toss, sealing the victory for Ben and Jake. All proceeds from the event will go to the Greater Michigan Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association. Thank you to all the teams that competed and donated!
