Associates from the Grand Rapids office recently attended the 10th annual Bowl For Kids event in support of D.A. Blodgett-St. John's Mentoring Services. The theme this year was 90's, so the office made sure to bring out their best 90's apparel. The night was not only stylish, but full of strikes, spares, and smiles for this wonderful cause. Thank you to everyone who showed up to participate!
Career Building Opportunities Update Career Building Opportunities (CBO) are opportunities for associates from all different departments to come together to solve a problem or improve a process. These projects allow associates to work on areas of the business they might not otherwise have the chance to get involved in. The first round of CBO’s was launched in June of 2018 and included six projects. They were received with tremendous support from the team, with over 40 associates signing up to participate in a project. Highlights from the first projects include: • Anderson Lab Project • Six hours of manpower per week were freed up by an IT project that improved the receiving process in Anderson! • Through new work instructions implemented, the efficiency of YTE tests were improved and the Anderson team was able to make great strides in cleaning up their testing schedule. • Drops Project • This team helped Mill Steel save roughly $20,000 by improving freight efficiency! • JIT Project • A download was created that shows all tags posted at a facility other than the planned for location. This gives the Logistics Team early visibility on all coils that need to be transferred, allowing for more efficient trucks. • New system updates were implemented to help prioritize what coils to bring in first based on purchase plan forecasting. This truly goes to show what can happen when we collaborate across departments and work together to solve problems! The next round of projects were launched in February and are currently being worked on. We will report on the progress made once they come to a close. Article by: Amanda Allspach
