Mill Steel Holiday Giving This holiday season, we take the opportunity to reflect upon the needs of those less fortunate. Mill Steel is happy to continue our tradition of donating to make this season a little brighter for countless people who are hungry, homeless, or hurting.

We will continue to support Feeding America West Michigan Food Bank, in Grand Rapids, Michigan and Gleaners Community Food Bank in Detroit, Michigan. In Canada, we will help sponsor The Downtown Mission located in Windsor.

We will also sponsor the Jimmie Hale Mission in Birmingham, Alabama. We will support Home of the Innocents in the Jeffersonville, Indiana area and contribute to Second Harvest Food Bank in Muncie, Indiana. In Texas, we will contribute to the Houston Food Bank in Houston. We admire each of these agencies for their dedication and commitment to those in need.

Mill Steel has also generously committed to sponsoring a family, as well as children and young adults from the D.A. Blodgett-St. John’s family assistance program and foster care program. The wish lists of the children and teens we are sponsoring this year can be found on Millnet. We welcome the generous support of our team in helping shop for them. With the money raised from the snack bin in the Grand Rapids office break room and donations from many of you, we will be able to give them all a wonderful holiday!

Without the incredible participation from the Mill Steel family, inspired by our ownership, these philanthropic efforts would not be possible. A sincere thank you to everyone who’s participated in any of the fundraising initiatives Mill Steel has supported this year. The impact we have made in 2018 is substantial due to your support. Associate Highlight Jennifer Gillard, Account Manager

What is your role here at Mill Steel?

I am an Account Manager for our Canadian customers. However, my contacts extend into the U.S. since so many of our Canadian customers now have locations in many of the states.

What do you like best about your job?

I enjoy working to help our customers find solutions. I love working with our Inside Sales Team to provide great service.

What is the biggest challenge?

The biggest challenge this year has been the tariffs. It has been difficult for many customers to navigate this, but our team has done a wonderful job in working through it and finding the best options for our customers.

Where are you from and who makes up your family?

I am from Newmarket, Ontario which is about 30 minutes north of Toronto.

My husband is from England, and we have four children (between us).

Two daughters and two sons. My son is expecting my first granddaughter this December!

Who has inspired you in your life and why?

I know it probably sounds boring, but my parents have been my biggest inspiration. They have always been pillars in their community, give to anyone in need, have loved those that needed love, and they always made me feel loved beyond words.

Even though I lost my dad just over a year ago, I still hear him whispering to me, and encouraging me to be a great person.

What are you interested in that most people haven’t heard of?

My husband and I volunteer to help set up and run Alpine Ski Races. We do this every winter up north, but we have also been to World Cup and Olympic events as volunteers.

What is your most noticeable characteristic?

I think I am pretty darn funny, but I would say some people around me wouldn’t agree. I crack myself up anyways (and that’s what is important).

If you won the lottery, what would your life look like a year after you

bring home the winnings?

I would definitely travel A LOT and see this wonderful world! I love experiencing new places and cultures, food and drink!

What did you want to be when you grew up (any story to share would be great)?

I wanted to be a dentist since I was in grade two. Finally, in my last years of high school, I was able to do a co-op program and worked in a dental office. I soon found out that I was not cut out to be a dentist after not once, but twice, fainting over a patient!

Here's the scoop on recent role changes within our company.

Congratulations to Kevin Sanchez on being promoted to IT Manager! Kevin consistently goes above and beyond to help out the team wherever needed, and keeps Mill Steel’s best interest at the forefront of his work. He is a dedicated, caring, and customer-service oriented associate that is very deserving of this promotion. Kevin and his team (Chase, James and Lenny) are responsible for maintaining our hardware, network, communications infrastructure and security framework. Well done, Kevin!

Name: Steve Nicholoff Location & Department: Grand Rapids / Finance Manager

Jeffrey was born and raised in Detroit, MI but now resides in Jeffersonville, IN. His family consists of his girlfriend of seven years and three kids who they love to spend time with, whether it’s just chitchatting or going to the pool. He also enjoys movies and video games. One of his favorite places to be is at home or visiting friends or family members, but someday he would like to travel out of the country.

Steve is from Lansing, MI but moved to Grand Rapids in 2007 to attend Aquinas College, where he met his wife Kristen. After graduating, they stayed in Grand Rapids. He is a Michigan State fan, avid golfer, likes a good bourbon or craft beer, and enjoys cooking and making pasta from scratch. One of his favorite things to do is tailgate in East Lansing for an MSU game. Steve is currently working toward playing golf in all 50 states. A group of his friends golf in a different state each year and just completed their ninth state. One interesting fact about Steve is that during his honeymoon to Italy, they met relatives who still live on the Island of Ischia (province of Naples). They had a great time despite the language barrier.

Name: Ally Humitz Location & Department: Grand Rapids / Marketing Intern Ally is from Plymouth, MI but is currently a senior at Grand Valley State University, majoring in Marketing and minoring in Advertising and Public Relations. She will be graduating in April. Ally likes to spend time with family and friends and her two Papillons back home named, Hux and Dash (named after Star Wars characters). Her favorite season is fall because of the perfect weather, pumpkin patches, apple orchards, Halloween and Thanksgiving. Her favorite place in Michigan is Mackinac Island because of how beautiful and relaxing it is. One thing on her bucket list is to travel to Iceland to see the Northern Lights.

Name: Brian Delamarter Location & Department: Grand Rapids / Charting Intern Brian is a senior at Aquinas College pursuing a degree in Mathematics, and will be graduating this December. His hobbies include hiking, kayaking, hammocking, and anything else that will get him outside when the weather is nice. He also enjoys photography and watching sports, especially Michigan State. Brian is originally from Eaton Rapids, MI but if he could live anywhere in the world, it would probably be New Zealand or anywhere that has national parks to explore. He has hiked several different mountains in Maine, including one that was an open face climb. It is his goal in life to make it to as many national parks as possible.

Name: Brett Rees Location & Department: Jeffersonville / 78" Setup Brett is originally from Kansas, KY but now lives in Jeffersonville, IN as of this past July. He has spent the last four years with his gorgeous fiancé. They have two sons and a daughter, ages three, two, and one. He enjoys riding his motorcycle, working on cars or bikes and spending quality time with his family. Brett loves the fall for the FOOTBALL, bonfires, hoodies and Halloween. One of his favorite places is the falls of the Ohio State Park because it’s secluded, quiet and peaceful with a great view of downtown Louisville. One day he would love to visit New York City for Christmas and New Year’s.

New Building Update Some exciting changes have taken place at the new headquarters! The most obvious is the fresh coat of paint on the building. Fun fact, at one point there were 18 different sample colors painted on the building! The task of selecting a paint color was not taken lightly and we worked closely with our designer, to choose a modern and inviting color for the building.

If you’ve driven by lately, you’ve probably also noticed that the overgrown brush and surrounding trees that were diseased have been removed. The building is now much more prominent from the road.

Major demolition has taken place inside, and all but one quarter of the building has been gutted. In addition, although it can’t be seen, there are many of decisions being made in regards to layouts and finishes for the interior. As many of you are wondering, we are still targeting March for the move in date for three quarters of the building. The final quarter will be renovated and completed 90 days after our initial move in date.

She Said Yes! Congratulations to Mike Gallegos and Aimee Dougherty on their recent engagement!

Mike popped the question on October 18th on the beach in Big Sur, California. They met at an ugly sweater party and the rest was history. They enjoy cooking, boating, skiing and travelling together. They plan to get married in the fall of 2019, no date as of yet. We can't wait to hear all the details of your big day!

They're Engaged!

Congratulations to Tina Mattias and her fiancé, Dan Post, on their engagement! Dan and Tina met on a dating app called Bumble and have been together for one year. Dan enlisted the help of his niece and nephews to pop the big question. He recorded a video of them asking if Tina would be their "uncle". After showing her the video, Dan got down on one knee and surprised her with the ring.

The couple enjoys game nights with friends, drinking coffee, watching Netflix, taking walks to get ice cream and spending time with each other’s families. They plan on getting married in the fall of 2019.

Jeffersonville Crushing Records & Wings!

Awesome job to the Jeffersonville team on breaking their production record this past month! The entire team has worked very hard to produce quality product, on time, every time. We truly appreciate all of their hard work!

Not only do they crush production records, but the Jeffersonville team can also put down some serious chicken wings! Their November luncheon turned into a competitive wing eating contest and Steve Groeger proved to be the champion after eating 52 wings!

Contest Corner

In this month’s edition of the contest corner Mill Steelers took on a Thanksgiving themed putt-putt course. The “green” was littered with obstacles such as pumpkins, caves, and a pesky pickup truck. A heated exhibition saw two competitors rise to the top in a final showdown for the ages. Tina Mattias and Noah Armstrong put on a show as they dueled for two breathtaking rounds. In the end, it was Noah who three putted his way to the championship!

All proceeds will be donated to Feeding America West Michigan.
