NORMS

Each year, the DA Blodgett – St. John’s Board of Directors reviews a list of nominees for the Daisy Franks Recruitment Award and selects an individual or company who best exemplify Daisy’s commitment to the children and families served by the agency. These have included mentors within the Big Brothers Big Sisters Program, foster or adoptive parents, or volunteers who have actively recruited others to join them. In recognition of our dedication and commitment to bringing the Bigs In Business (BIB) program to West Michigan, Mill Steel is this year’s winner of the Daisy Franks Recruitment Award! We are well into our second session of BIB, and the program is going great. The participation went up to 17 matches this year! The meetings take place once a month over the course of the school year, where Bigs share insight on topics that help prepare the students for their future, such as finances, resumes, applying for a job and community outreach. This group had the opportunity to take a field trip to the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum last week. Tour guides from the museum explained how important mentorship was in the early life of our 38th President, which was very relatable to how Mill Steel Bigs are positive role models in the Little’s lives. Everyone enjoyed the unique outing. Thank you to all associates involved in this wonderful program for your time and willingness to mentor. And a big thank you to East Kentwood Public Schools and DABSJ for your support, we could not do this without you and are so proud to be a part of Bigs In Business! Article by: Amanda Allspach
