Board of T ru st e e s N e w s We welcome our three newest members of the Board of Trustees, as we extend our deep appreciation and sincerest thanks to departing members, Sandy Holbrook James ’86, Martin Lynn ’72 (P ’09), Hampton Lynch III ’69, and Drew Effron ’83.
Francisco “Frank” Borges ’70, elected May 2013 A resident of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, Mr. Borges served on Millbrook’s board of trustees from 1980-1986 and now returns to his alma mater to serve once again. He is chairman of Landmark Partners, an institutional alternative investment firm in Simsbury, Connecticut, specializing in private equity and real estate secondary market acquisitions. Prior to joining Landmark, Frank served as managing director of Financial Guaranty Insurance Company, was twice elected treasurer of the State of Connecticut, and also served as deputy mayor of the City of Hartford and legal counsel for The Travelers Insurance Companies. Frank serves on a number of boards including Connecticut Public Broadcasting and Radio Network, The University of Connecticut Medical School and Health Center, and the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation. He is also a director of Assured Guaranty and Davis Selected Funds and a former member of the board and treasurer of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving. After graduating from Millbrook in 1970, Frank received his B.A. from Trinity College and his
J.D. from the University of Connecticut School of Law. Other Millbrook graduates in his family include his brother, Peter, class of ’76, and his nephew, Caleb King ’13. His younger nephew, Daniel Correia, will graduate from Millbrook in 2016.
Robert “Bob” Hallett, elected October 2013 Bob Hallett graduated from The Episcopal Academy in 1965. He matriculated to Gettysburg College, from which he graduated in 1969 with B.A. in Psychology and a minor in Art. He earned his M.S. in Middle School Curriculum and Adolescent Development from the Graduate School of Education at The University of Pennsylvania. His teaching career began in 1971 at Friends’ Central School in Philadelphia, where he was the varsity soccer coach and a teacher of English, art and religion. During his tenure of 14 years, he was principal of the Middle School, Upper School and assistant headmaster. In 1985 he became headmaster of St. Paul’s School in Baltimore, MD, a position he held until 2002. From 2002 until 2013, he was the executive director of The Edward E Ford Foundation. He now serves on the Board of Advisers to The Foundation. Over the years he has been a presenter at many educational conferences. In addition he has been on several
boards and was the president of the board of Independent Educational Services (IES). He has been a consultant to schools and a facilitator to numerous educational institutions. His wife, Nancy, and he enjoy their two adult children and three grandchildren. His interest in Millbrook stems directly from his experience as the director of the EE Ford Foundation. Twice he recommended funding of projects at the school, and his friendship with both Bill Menard and Drew Casertano convinced him that assisting Millbrook would be productive and fun.
Christina Lang-Assael P ’15 elected October 2013 Mother of current V former Robert Lang, Christina is a next-door neighbor of the school’s, as her property is just south of Millbrook School Road. She was born and educated in Sweden. During 20 years of marriage to Salvador Assael, they had two children and she became very active in philanthropy. Since her husband’s death, Christina has taken over the family business in New York City as dealer in South Sea pearls and precious stones. Her other interests are related to the environment, landscape gardening, and sports.
