3 Tips to Help Launch Your MMA Career
THE MAN
By Jason Stewart San Diego has quickly become a hotbed for breeding and attracting top mixed martial arts talent. Dana White, President of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) has gone on record to say that San Diego goes “toe to toe” with any major city that offers the popular combat sport. The talent that has come out of San Diego speaks for itself. Take Dominique Cruz for example; he trains at Alliance MMA, and ranks as the current UFC Bantamweight Champion. Gyms like Victory, The Arena, The Boxing Club and Undisputed all have top-tiered coaches that have taken trainees
By Cal Thomas Baseball great Stan Musial died last week. He was 92. In September 2007, I was invited to make a speech to a civic group in St. Louis. I told the person who invited me I would come on one condition: that I could meet Stan Musial. “That’s no problem,” he said.

In response to his elevation of same-sex marriage as a civil right, Brian Brown, president of the National Organization for Marriage, a nonprofit political organization working against same-sex marriage legalization, said, “Gay and lesbian people are already treated equally under the law. They have the same civil rights as anyone else; they have the right to live as they wish and love whom they choose. What they don’t have is the right to redefine marriage for all of society. In fact, six federal courts have rejected the idea that there is a constitutional right to same-sex marriage, including the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit and the U.S. Supreme Court in a summary decision in 1972. Furthermore, that vast majority of states have codified the commonsense view held for thousands of years that marriage is the union of a man and a woman. Bill Clinton isn’t often wrong when it comes to politics, but his assertion in his 1996 State of the Union Address that “the era of big government is over” was a bit premature. In light of President Obama’s Second Inaugural Address, the era of big government has just begun. The reliably liberal columnist Dana Milbank of The Washington Post exhibited refreshing honesty when he wrote of Obama’s speech, “...it failed to rise to the moment.” The president’s address was more campaign rhetoric than visionary. He even lowered himself to reference Mitt Romney’s inelegant remark about “takers” versus makers. Obama’s comment was petty and beneath the grandeur of the moment. There were many inconsistencies. The president quoted the Declaration of Independence, which reads all are “...created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life...” Apparently the president, who supports abortion, doesn’t believe those rights extend to the unborn, not even those in the third trimester of life. He declared again the false choice between caring for the elderly and needy and making necessary reforms in entitlement programs, but then it’s not his money he’s borrowing and spending, it’s ours, or China’s. He spoke of America as being

The scout left, but returned several weeks later to again ask that Stan be allowed to play professional baseball. He was rejected again. Musial says the scout then appealed to “a higher authority, my mother” and she agreed. In 1938, Musial was signed as a pitcher to a professional baseball contract. I asked him how much they
Continued from page 3 “We are members of the same sports club.” I forget what I said in the speech — and the audience probably has long forgotten, too — but I will always remember having lunch with Stan Musial. Stan regaled me with baseball stories. I asked him how it all began. He
said when he was in high school during the Depression a baseball scout came to his hometown of Donora, Pa. The scout told Musial’s father he wanted to sign him to a contract. Musial said his father rejected the offer, telling the scout, “My son is going to college.” Musial’s father worked in a steel mill and never got a college education. Like most fathers, he want-
paid him. As I now recall it was about $2,000 to $3,000. With so many players of lesser skill making millions today, I didn’t begrudge him selling his autograph on baseballs and memorabilia. After injuring his arm as a minor league player, Musial was moved to the outfield and then to first base where he began to hit the ball like few left-handers ever had. He became one of the greatest hitters in Major League Baseball history. If ever there was a sports role model, Stan was one. A World War II vet and family man, Musial played his entire career with the St. Louis Cardinals, a rarity today when players, like interchangeable parts, are traded
often or jump to other clubs for more money. President Obama touched on Musial’s character when he presented him with the Presidential Medal of Freedom in February 2011. The president said then, “Stan remains to this day an icon untarnished, a beloved pillar of the community, a gentleman you’d want your kids to emulate.” In our celebrity culture where it doesn’t matter why you’re famous, only that you are famous, we don’t focus enough on true achievement and the untarnished. Musial’s contemporaries, Joe DiMaggio and Ted Williams, received more media attention than he did, but Stan never publicly expressed any bitterness. They were in larger media markets — New York and Boston respectively — which may account for some of it, though it was in New York that Musial acquired his moniker “The Man.” Sporting News reports that, “According to the National Baseball Hall of Fame, Musial earned ‘The Man’ nickname ‘by (Brooklyn) Dodgers fans for the havoc he wrought at Ebbets Field.’” Sporting News quoted Hall of Fame president Jeff Idelson: “Stan will be remembered in baseball annals as one of the pillars of our game. The mold broke with Stan. There will never be another like him.” On that one day in 2007, as I had lunch with my childhood hero, I was a kid again. For me, it was better than any politician I have met or dined with. He signed a baseball for me, for free. It sits encased on a shelf in my office. In so many ways, on and off the field, Stan Musial was, indeed, “The Man.”

Impact of the Emancipation Proclamation The Emancipation Proclamation is often viewed as a moral repudiation of the institution of slavery. While in reality, it did not abolish slavery in the United States, it is nonetheless seen as adding abolition as a formal goal to the North’s side in the U.S. Civil War. In effect, it is seen as a formal promise by the President of the United States to abolish slavery as soon as the Civil War was over. While the practical impact of the Proclamation itself inside the U.S. was very limited, it had an immense political impact on the course of the Civil War. In effect, the Emancipation Proclamation made European intervention on the side of the South a political impossibility. By proclaiming that the North was now
fighting to abolish slavery, that now meant that the South was de facto fighting for slavery. As all major European powers had abolished slavery prior to the 1860s, their own public opinion was strongly against slavery. Thus, no European government would have been able to survive the outcry from their citizenry if they were seen to support slavery. And since the South now appeared to support slavery, no official support could every be forthcoming for the South. This was decisive for the outcome of the Civil War. For without access to European goods (and, in particular, assistance with breaking the Union blockage of Southern ports), the South would lose. It had neither the industri-
al capacity nor the finances to fight an extended war against the richer and highly industrial North. The EP also provided a huge boost to Northern morale, removing the only real other chance for a Southern victory (i.e. that the Northern public opinion would sag so much as to force a settlement before the North’s industrial might could crush the South). Today, the effects of the Emancipation Proclamation are seen in several ways: firstly, in the preservation of the Union as it now stands, and not a divided country. Secondly, it was the driving force between several major legal equality movements, primarily the 13, 14th, and 15th Amendments, and the 1960s Civil Rights Act (and
movement as a whole). Furthermore, the Emancipation Proclamation is seen as adding a fundamental value to the American psyche: that all persons should be seen as equal, and that all Americans should aspire to treating each other with respect and dignity, regardless of race.

Gym and coach are key. Any good fighter will tell you that the right gym and coach matters. It is less about a fancy gym with nice equipment and more about the talent in the gym from the fighters you train with, to the coaches that train you. You need a coach that is vested in you, and feels a personal obligation to help you succeed. You don’t have to rush out and find a coach right away; you may want to get some training under your belt first – try a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu or a Muay Thai class. You can always try sessions with a couple different coaches before selecting one. Also, select a gym that is located in a place that can easily be incorporated into your routine, like on the way home from work, or close to your house. If it is more accessible, you will be more likely to go…and every minute of training counts. Transitioning from the gym to the cage. So you found your gym and coach. Now, you want to take your skills from the gym to the cage. Thanks to the organization C.A.M.O. formed in 2010, amateur fights are now legal and regulated in California. For some, after six months of training you might be ready to jump in, for others it might be years. The good thing about amateur MMA is even if you’ve trained for only 6 months, there’s someone else on your level that will make a great match-up and sometimes those rookies putting their heart into the fight make for the most exciting bouts. Ultimately, your coach is the expert, and will be able to advise you as to when you are ready. Physicality is important, but mentality is king. Any veteran fighter will tell you that executing a successful fight is a mental game. There are a lot of fighters who do well in practice but when it comes fight time, they freeze Continues on page 21>

REAL HEROES
What Lance Armstrong teaches us about real heroes. As a cancer survivor and U.S. Marine, I once looked up to him.
By Jay Platt
W
hat is a hero? Webster’s dictionary defines a hero as someone who’s admired for his achievements and noble qualities, and one who shows great courage. Fortunately, today we have many examples of real heroes. Look no further than the U.S. military, police and firefighters -- men and women who put their lives at risk for others. A real hero also is the person who is fighting cancer or some other chronic illness, and does so with great dignity and grace. Though they may be in pain or discomfort, they somehow make those around them feel better, do better, and be better. Which brings me to Lance Armstrong. I was a supporter of his since his first Tour de France win. Coming back from cancer the way he did, and racing the way he did drug-free (supposedly), inspired me to no end. When others questioned how he was able to do the things he did without any help from performance-enhancing drugs, I defended him as if he were a personal friend. As a cancer survivor myself, and someone who continues to battle the disease daily, he inspired me. He gave me strength when I felt like I had none. He even motivated me to challenge myself by attempting demanding physical feats, like hiking the 2,100-mile Appalachian Trail beginning to end. When I got tired and wanted to quit, I’d think to myself, “If Lance can do the things he does, I can do this, too.” Jay Platt So, his recent revelations to Oprah Winfrey hit me like a 50-pound sledgehammer to the chest. When he admitted to lying about taking performance enhancing drugs, I felt like he had personally lied to me. And that’s when I knew that he is nothing more than a fake hero. Fake heroes have none of the qualities of a real hero. Rather, they lie, cheat, steal, and do whatever it takes to make themselves look good and heroic. Winning, to them, is the most important thing, and who they hurt in the process really doesn’t matter. All of which, sadly, describes Lance Armstrong. I know he still will have his defenders. I’ve already heard from people who have basically said, “Well, what about all the good he’s done for cancer research?” While that is true, and I certainly hope that Livestrong is not negatively affected by Armstrong’s admission, the fact is that the whole organization was started based on a lie. He never would have had the millions of dollars, the fame, and the incredible story if it had not been for the lie that he told for so long. And, although it is uncomfortable to say so, how do we know that he did not get cancer because of his taking performance enhancing drugs? Would that have changed his story? I’m sure, for many, it would have. And what of his admission now? Surely, that took courage? It was heroic, right? Hardly! First of all, look at to whom he chose to tell all of the details. Oprah Winfrey. I have no doubt that was a well-thought-out strategy on his part. He, undoubtedly, was advised to go where he would most likely garner sympathy and do it before an audience that probably knows little about cycling, and that is most likely to give him a pass on his transgressions. Even with all that though, he still could have done the heroic thing. But he did not. He could have looked into the camera and said in the sincerest way he could muster that steroids are not the way. That he, in all likelihood, gave himself cancer in his quest for fame. Think of the kids who could have benefited from hearing such a thing. Instead, however, he defiantly said that since everyone else was supposedly doing it, he felt justified in doing it, too. Very hero like, huh?
About Jay Platt: Jay Platt was medically retired from the Marine Corps in 1998 after suffering complications from the cancer von Hippel Lindau (VHL), a genetic disease that resulted in brain and spinal tumors, kidney cancer, and the loss of his left eye. Told his future would be considerably dimmer than his past, Platt set out to rebuild himself physically, mentally and spiritually, and to challenge himself by setting demanding physical goals. He is one of fewer than 300 people to have hiked the 2,100-mile southbound Appalachian Trail; one of three to swim from Alcatraz Island to San Francisco with hands and feet tied; and the only person to swim across the Mississippi while blindfolded, handcuffed and shackled. Proceeds from his adventures and sales of his documentary benefit non-profits, including the VHL Family Alliance. For more information, visit: www.livingunstoppable.com.

Things to see and do this month Coronado, California

T
he town is a walker’s delight: beachfront paths, Spreckel’s Park, the Village itself, the Ferry Landing and cozy cottages, mansions and fascinating homes. Coronado Beach is ranked The Marina among the top 10 beaches in the country. The Coronado Museum of History and Art traces the town’s growth from its establishment in 1885 to today, including its prominent military presence. Catch a movie at the refurbished Art Deco-style Village Theatre or attend a play at the highly acclaimed Lamb’s Players Theatre. Spend time at the Loews Coronado Bay Resort; start by pampering yourself at their Sea Spa. Around sunset, walk to the Marina for a taste of Venice, cruising through the Coronado Cays’ canals with the Gondola Company. For the finale, dine at the awardwinning Mistral restaurant overlooking San Diego Bay; it is romantic and classy. Try two locals’ favorites: Leroy’s Kitchen + Lounge and Lil’ Pig-
gy’s BBQ. Visit the Del Coronado Hotel and don’t miss their award-winning Sunday brunch extravaganza. The champagne flows freely as one grazes between food stations featuring tables laden with every food group and ethnicity imaginable. Where to stay? I highly recommend the delightful 1906 Lodge at Coronado Beach. It is a lovingly restored 17 room inn that started its life as a boarding house. The rate includes a gourmet breakfast, secure underground parking, afternoon wine and snacks, plus evening turndown with chocolates. Its location is perfect, one block off the main street and two from the beach. Logon to www.coronadovisitorcenter.com for a Coronado Visitors Guide.

R.I.P. Van T. Barffot - An American Patriot with how the 90-year-old veteran chose to fly the American flag outside his suburban Virginia home. Seems the HOA rules said it was OK to fly a flag on a house-mounted bracket, but, for decorum, items such as Barfoot’s 21-foot flagpole were “unsuitable.” Van Barfoot had been denied a permit for the pole, but erected it anyway and was facing court action unless he agreed to take it down. Then the HOA story made national TV, and the Neighborhood Association rethought its position and agreed to indulge this aging hero who dwelt among them. “In the time I have left”, he said to the Associated Press, “I plan to continue to fly the American flag without
Remember the guy who wouldn’t take the flag pole down on his Virginia property a while back? You might remember the news story several months ago about a crotchety old man in Virginia who defied his local Homeowners Association, and refused to take down the flagpole on his property along with the large American flag he flew on it. Now we learn who that old man was. On June 15, 1919, Van T. Barfoot was born in Edinburg, Texas. That probably didn’t make news back then. But twenty-five years later, on May 23, 1944, near Carano, Italy, that same Van T. Barfoot, who had in 1940 enlisted in the U.S. Army, set out alone to flank German machine gun positions from which gunfire was raining down on his fellow soldiers. His advance took him through a minefield but having done so, he proceeded to single-handedly take out three enemy machine gun positions, returning with 17 prisoners of war. And if that weren’t enough for a day’s work, he later took on and destroyed three German tanks sent to retake the machine gun positions. That probably didn’t make much news either, given the scope of the war, but
interference.” As well he should. And if any of his neighbors had taken a notion to contest him further, they might have done well to read his Medal of Honor citation first. Seems it indicates Mr. Van Barfoot wasn’t particularly good at backing down. Van T. Barfoot’s Medal of Honor citation: This 1944 Medal of Honor citation, listed with the National Medal of Honor Society, is for Second Lieutenant Van T. Barfoot, 157th Infantry, 45th Infantry: WE ONLY LIVE IN THE LAND OF THE FREE BECAUSE OF THE BRAVE! AND, BECAUSE OF OLD MEN LIKE VAN BARFOOT
Van T. Barfoot died at the age of 92 on March 2, 2012.

Commentary
Weapons of ‘Small’ Destruction
By Michael Riches “Honor the scream of a child, a mom, dad or friend…” Here is the answer to gun control… Anything less, is no answer at all! Microchip guns and link them to GPS tracking technology. By the time a gun is pulled it is already too late, but if a gun enters into a gun-free zone like the private property of a school, shopping mall or movie theater then the proper authorities can be alerted and dispatched to the scene before an actual deadly threat occurs. • Microchipped guns would still allow our right to bear arms to protect one’s self or for the protection of one’s family. • A microchipped gun takes the gun out of the hands of criminals because when a criminal knows that the GPS tracking his gun not only locates his/her weapon at a crime scene, but also locates the criminal. • If a microchipped gun is stolen, GPS tracking locates weapon. • Microchipped guns would create revenue by allowing NRA to collect funds that can be used for other preventive security measures and technologies. • Microchipped guns and GPS tracking create invisible gun-free property in GPS technology zones. • Microchipped guns put an identity on a weapon which forces better gun security and storage. 18 February 1, 2013 THE MILITARY PRESS
• Ammunition and restriction on types of guns does not create gun control but microchipped weapons actually create the means of knowing where the guns are, which is gun control. How can any control take place if the location of a weapon is not known? • Microchipped / GPS tracking of weapons can be done in a secure technological environment. • Microchipped / GPS tracking information can be utilized in criminal judicial cases. • Police on a traffic stops would now know if a weapon is in the vehicle. • Activated silent security alarms can trigger the detection of a weapon in a GPS gun-free location like a store front, 7/11 or am/pm. • Home security systems can alert a resident of a weapon being brought onto their property. • Crime prevention, a pro-active approach like this, stops a crime, and would save lives. • Stiff penalties can be initiated if a gun has not been micro-chipped within a given time period. Microchipped weapon registration is the only real answer to control. If a nuclear bomb went missing, you can be certain we would know how to locate it? Well, a weapon of small destruction taking my head off is no different.

up and all those skills they have spent hours rehearsing don’t flow the way they did in practice. Jocko points out that if you have the mental toughness to work hard, and the mental toughness to execute in the cage, you outperform your competition. And, one of the ways you develop that mental toughness is intense practice. Those that want to make a career out of MMA should focus on learning an accumulation of skills, and the details that go into becoming a great fighter over time. Amateurs should not worry too much about their record (which starts over when you go pro). Rather, focus on learning from each training session; at the amateur level, it is less about winning or losing and more about what you take away from each fight. You don’t remember every fight you win, but the fights you loose are engraved in your mind. Losing often breeds a stronger desire to improve than winning. The last piece of advice from Jocko: “Train like you are fighting tomorrow, at the same time be patient, and learn each technique thoroughly so it’s second nature come fight time.” About the Author: Jason Stewart is the founder of Epic Fighting, a San Diego fight promotion that provides a forum for local fighters to advance their mixed martial arts (MMA) career

At The Movies
SIDE EFFECTS An interview with Dr. Sasha Bardley
By Jeri Jacquin / Movie Maven
In theatres February 8 from director Steven Soderbergh and Open Road Films comes SIDE EFFECTS. This film tells the story of Emily (Rooney Mara), a young wife waiting for husband Martin (Channing Tatum) to get out of prison for securities fraud. Stressed from a changes Emily seeks out Dr. Jonathan Banks (Jude
Law) who prescribes medication. He tries to uncover the root of her problems visiting prior physician Dr. Siebert (Zeta-Jones). When the medication has side effects Emily’s life twists. Now, Banks must go to the beginning to know what went horribly wrong. I discussed the film with Dr. Sasha Bardley. Having worked with patients at Bellevue, he understands the issues these characters face and shares with us. Discussing the cast: “It was amazing to work with such a talented group of people. Each were truly interested in making their characters as believable as possible.” Dr. Bardley says, “I the technical adviser to characters and set designs. Everything documented even photographing my office to be sure everything was as it should be”. Discussing the pharmacological side of the film: “I believe the film did a good job in bringing that to the forefront. Things have changed as doctors are held more accountable”. Seeing ads on television about medications. “Yes, the ads are everywhere. People are able to understand more about medications and its good to be informed. It seems however that they are reaching out to the public basically saying ‘ask your doctor for this’ medication”. Asking about Law’s character as

a psychiatrist, in SIDE EFFECTS. “I believe this is his best role to date. He got into every nuance and watching that character go into such depths adds to the film.” And working with Channing Tatum: “His role is the catalyst for everything that happens”. About Zeta-Jones’s role as Dr. Siebert: “It is difficult to watch a good doctor succumb to situations they otherwise wouldn’t. Sometimes the pathology of a patient is so strong that the consequences are severe.”
Finally, Mara as Emily: “Showing this film to other psychiatrists they will tell you she nailed this performance. The characteristics of a person with depression are all there as well as treatment. It was amazing the performance she brings to the story”. What a fantastic way to start the year with a film that no one is expecting. This is a film I can’t wait for others to see!

No network footage exists of the first Super Bowl
There is no known copy of the original airings of Super Bowl I. Both networks taped over their copies to record other material, including a soap opera on CBS. In fact, the first Super Bowl did not even come close to selling out. Attendance at the L.A. Coliseum was just 61,946 that day, in a stadium that held close to 100,000 at the time.
The Super Bowl was not seen in Los Angeles
As a result of not being sold out, the first Super Bowl was blacked out within 75 miles of Los Angeles. Unfortunately for those fans, there were no websites illegally streaming the game.
The first Super Bowl
The 10 best games 10. Super Bowl XXXIX
The first Super Bowl was not officially called the Super Bowl
The first Super Bowl was actually called the “World Championship Game,” and was later retroactively renamed the Super Bowl. However, the name “Super Bowl” was conceived prior to the first Super Bowl by Kansas City Chiefs owner Lamar Hunt, who named it after his daughter’s “Super Ball.” The first Super Bowl was played in 1967, between the Green Bay Packers and the Kansas City Chiefs. And the productions seen 45 years ago looked nothing like what we know of the Super Bowl today.
The first Super Bowl was conceived as a peace offering
Prior to the first Super Bowl, the AFL and NFL were embroiled in a nasty war that was getting out of hand. So Tex Schramm, owner of the Dallas Cowboys, and Lamar Hunt, owner of the Kansas City Chiefs, met and worked out a truce that would include a championship game between the champions of the two leagues.
Pete Rozelle hated the name ‘Super Bowl’
When Lamar Hunt first conceived the name “Super Bowl,” he assumed that it was a temporary nickname, “which obviously can be improved upon.” And Pete Rozelle, the commissioner of the NFL, hated the name. It wasn’t until Super Bowl III, that he relented and the name became official. Additionally, the use of roman numeral designations did not begin until Super Bowl V.
pree, which shortened the score difference down to four.
8. Super Bowl III This was one of those games where dreams are waiting to be fulfilled. The New England Patriots are planning to establish a dynasty while the Philadelphia Eagles are trying their best to regain the losing streak from the previous three seasons. The suspense began when Deion Branch tied the game through a touchdown reception. Brady threw a touchdown pass that was caught by linebacker Mike Vrabel, which made the score 14-7. However, the Eagles caught up with a 10-play that tied the game all over again. Patriots managed to make a field goal that jumped the score to 2414. McNabb still tried to fight it out but the team was 3 points short.
9. Super Bowl XIII
The Steelers and the Cowboys are caught in the cross lines where they scored 14-14 with the second quarter only having 10 minutes. On the last ten, both teams have intercepted and run back and forth, making sure that the ball does not cross the goal. However, the momentum was broken when MVP Terry Bradshaw gave Rocky Bleier a touchdown pass to heat things up. On the fourth quarter, it was a 35-17 game in favor of the Pittsburgh where Dallas can no longer catch up with the lead, even as a touchdown pass was made from Roger Staubauch to Du-
This season of Super Bowl was memorable in NFL and in sports history because of the actual scenario that was seen in the field, a fight between David and Goliath, in the form of New York Jets and the Baltimore Colts. Despite of the major difference in strength, Joe Namath guaranteed to the team that they would win the game. If it were not for quarterback Johnny Unitas, where he made a touchdown for 13 points, which only came in the fourth quarter, the third Super Bowl could have scored 16 to nothing.
The first Super Bowl was seen on two networks
The first Super Bowl aired on both CBS and NBC on January 15, 1967. Two networks were used as they represented the networks of the AFL and NFL, and both leagues wanted the game on their network. The two networks paid a combined $9.5 million for the rights to the first four Super Bowls. Forty-five years later, NBC, CBS, and Fox signed a recent deal that will pay the NFL $3.1 billion per year.

The first Super Bowl was cheap
Tickets for reserved seats at the first Super Bowl were $1012. That translates to $67-81 in 2011 dollars if we consider inflation. This year, the face value for Super Bowl tickets is $800$1,200. And of course, it will cost you much more than that on the secondary market. Yet, the first Super Bowl did not sell out
7. Super Bowl XXXVIII
One team scores, and then another team retaliates. This is how the season of Super Bowl was analyzed by most football fans when they saw how the Patriots fought it out with the Panthers. The first 26 minutes of the game was full of suspense as no score was made. However, silence was broken 4 minutes before the end of the quarter when New England scored a touchdown, which was then exchanged by Carolina, making the score 14-10. With 2:51 left on the 4th quarter and the Panthers was leading 29-22, the Patriots have devised a play, where Brady tapped Viniatieri into making a goal, with the team being 3 points higher.
5. Super Bowl XXV
The game is remembered as the “Wide Right Game” because of a drastic failure coming from Buffalo Bill’s player, Scott Norwood when he made the 47yard kick, thinking that everything will work out great. For many of the spectators, all things seemed too perfect to make that moment of retaliating from the New York Giants. What is worse, the kick became a curse to the Bills, which began the four season losing streak.
4. Super Bowl XLIII
6. Super Bowl XXXIV
The Titans and the Rams made the show on the roll due to the heartpounding battles on the close yards to the goal. Both teams see to it that they exhaust all their defenses to reverse the attack and retaliate with their force. St. Louise broke the silence with a touchdown pass at the end zone, while Tennessee avenged with two consecutive driving attacks. The highlight of the game was when Mike Jones wrapped up Kevin Dyson where he did not reach the end zone, even if he tried to reach the goal with his hands full stretched.
The Cardinals may be thirsty for the victory, as the team is seeking for its first Super Bowl winning since 1947, it was never enough to pull them through against the power of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Thanks to a gathering of former forces, such as the former offensive coordinator, Ken Whisenhunt, and the return of Kurt Warner to the team, Super Bowl XXXIV’s MVP, the Steelers had an unexpected win.
3. Super Bowl XXXVI
This is one of the games where Tom Brady had led the march for the New England Patriots to win another vic-
tory, where he completed 16 passes in 145 yards, where he made a touchdown. Even though the Rams had given out all they could, using different kinds of arsenals, such as two former NFL MVPs and record-reaching offensive plays, the strategy was not enough to bring the Giants down.
2. Super Bowl XXIII
The Super Bowl XXIII is one game that has demonstrated a buzzer beater, which is usually seen in the NBA. Thanks to the resilience of the 49ers at the last quarter, they were able to make 14 points, which was just enough to reverse the mood of the game. With a 16-13 score in favor of the Bengals, San Francisco did everything they could to play in their yard line with 3 minutes left on the clock. In the last 34 seconds, Joe Montana threw a great pass to John Taylor and got a touchdown because of it.
1. Super Bowl XLII
This has been heralded as the best game ever because of the loss received by the New England Patriots and the victory of a wild card team, the New York Giants. Kinda reminds you of Rocky, doesn’t it? At first glance, you can analyze that the Patriots can win easy against the Giants because of their almost perfect profile with incredible records and performance under their belt. However, the Giants carried with them a reliable line of defense, and Lady Luck at their side.
The first Super Bowl trophy was not called the Lombardi Trophy. Obviously, the Green Bay Packers did not win the “Lombardi Trophy” as they were coached by Vince Lombardi. At the time, the trophy did not have a name, and was simply inscribed with the words “World Professional Football Championship,” along with the location and the final score. The trophy was named in honor of Lombardi in 1970. For advertising information, call (858) 537-2280
