Yiorgo:Withustodayisancientastronaut theorist Giorgio A. Tsoukalos. Why should people come to your Ancient Aliens LIVE show? What will they see, hear, and experience?

Giorgio A. Tsoukalos: The reason why anyone should come to see Ancient Aliens LIVE is twofold One, if you are a fan, then this is Shangri-La. It is a 90-minute immersion into your favorite TV show, Ancient Aliens, whereweshowclips, stills, andhave discussionsabouttheshow.

And two, even if you’re not a fan, you shouldstillcomeoutandseeitbecauselet’s say, yourwifeisafanoryourhusbandisafan and you’re not yet convinced I cannot tell you how many times after the show people would come to me and say, “You know, my, myhusband, hejustdraggedmetothis, but IreallylikeditandIthinkI’mconvinced,so I’m gonna start watching episode one from AncientAliensandtherestoftheepisodes.” We are actually almost 300 episodes in, so, there’salotforeverybodytocatchupon.

Y:HowdidAncientAlienscomeintoexistence?

GAT: Ancient Aliens never began as a series Itwasalwaysjustaone-off,two-hour special,thatairedonMarch8th2009 Itisa

collaborativeeffortthatIhavebeeninvolved insinceepisodeone Atthetime peoplelike David Childress, myself, Nick Pope, Jason Martell, and William Henry, we all thought that we had reached the pinnacle of our careers And then six months later, the phonerings, andit’sKevinBurns, theowner of Prometheus Entertainment on the other end. And he says, (In Kevin Burns voice)

“Buddy are you sitting down? Because this never happens pal. But you’ve just been picked up for season one of Ancient Aliens and you better promise me that you have more pyramids to talk about. And I said, “Notonlydowehavemorepyramidstotalk about, but, the ancient astronaut theory is a wide and deep topic with many different subsets.”

Y: Let’s backtrack a little Why were you originally contacted to create Ancient Aliens?

GAT: Because a few months earlier, Prometheus Entertainment, owned by Kevin Burns, had asked me to appear in a

documentary that they did about Indiana Jones and the franchise of Indiana Jones. ThisdocumentarywascalledIndianaJones and the Ultimate Quest. I appeared in the verylastactofthatproductiontalkingabout the ancient crystal skulls And that is how Prometheus Entertainment “discovered” me Iappearedforthemtotalkaboutaliens andcrystalsforanIndianaJonesproject. Nowhereisaninterestingnugget.During the course of this Kevin Burns said, “I gotta tell you this Giorgio I, Kevin Burns, would’veneverbecomeafilmdocumentarian if it had not been for the 1970 Chariots of the Gods documentary.” So that is what inspired him. At the time it was Chariots of the Gods 40-year anniversary Chariots came out in 1968, the German original version, and then Ancient Aliens, the first episode came out in early 2009 So Kevin continued and said, “I would like to write a love letter to Erich von Däniken. I want

Erich in this production. And I said, “Sure, I’ll call him, but I can tell you right now, he willnotparticipate.”Becauseusually,Erich has always been taken out of context. They edited his answers and things like that. So Erich, for a while, was done with television And then Erich von Däniken said to me “Well, I’ll participate but only if they make you a producer.” So I went back to Kevin Burns. I said, “Hey Kevin, greetings from Erich. He would love to participate, but only if you make me some type of a producer.” And Yiorgo, without blinking an eye, extended his hand and he said, “No problem.Youareaconsultingproducer, and I am not going to edit you out of context.” Andhehasnot.

Y:SohowdidyouknowErich?

GAT:I’veknownhimsinceIwas15years old when I started to read his books It all startedbecausemygrandmother, mymother andfathertheyallthoughtitwouldbeagood ideawhenIwasfive, sixyearsoldtochange up my bedtime stories, and instead of reading, you know, the regular fare, they would read me Charles Birlitz’s Bermuda Triangle or Edgar Cayce’s Atlantis or Chariot of theGods?Theydidthisbecausetothisday, they are interested in this topic. so, when I was15,IstumbledacrossthebooksbyErich von Däniken. I was beyond fascinated. And then,Isawaposter, walkingdownthestreet somewhere in Switzerland, about Däniken doingalecture, andIsaid,“Ihavetogo.”And Idid, anditchangedmylife AndsoIbecame friends with him, and he took me under his wing imparted all the knowledge that he knew, and the rest as they say, is History Channel.

Y: One of my all time original Star Trek episodes is Who Mourns for Adonais. (Ed. NoteTheepisodeisaboutCaptainKirkand the Enterprise interacting with the Greek God Apollo who claimed that he was an ancient alien who along with other aliens had visited ancient Greece and the Greeks at that time classified them as their Gods.) ItisabouttheChariotsoftheGodsconcept.

GAT: I was young when I first saw it and when I was in my 20s, that is when I revisitedthatepisode.Andofcourse,Iwasblown away by how Gene Roddenberry wrote the episode Andbytheway,manysci-fishows, books, TV shows and movies have successfully implemented the ancient astronaut However, somehow, when it comes to reality, itisstilllookeddownupon, whichtome is strange, because that is exactly an illustration of what may have happened long ago, andherewearesaying,“Oh,youknow, it’s just science fiction.” But when in reality somesciencefictionstuffhasalreadyturned intosciencefact.Andsomeofthisstuffthat is currently considered science fiction, I’m telling you, in 10 years or so, we’ll all look backandwe’llgolike,“Hey youknowwhat? 10yearsago thatwasallsciencefiction. Now it’sreal. Ithappensallthetime Y: So let’s learn about you. Where were you born, and besides your yiayia, your grandmaandyourparentsreadingandintroducingyoutothattopicwiththebookswas

thereanythingelsethatmadeyoufallinlove withtheconceptofancientalienastronauts?

GAT:IwasborninLucerne,Switzerland to Greek and Austrian parents Besides my grandmother and parents influencing me, also you must remember that I am a child of the late ‘70s, early ‘80s and that’s when a Japanese anime came out called Captain Future.Forme, thatanime, thatcartoon, was the ultimate turner of the key, because that showessentiallyexploredthegreatestsecret of mankind or humanity And that great secret as a underlying red thread throughout the entire show was that we are not fromEarth.Andthatwebelongtoanentire intergalactic, plethoraofpeoplethatareout there. And we just happen to be part of this giant civilization out there that exists not justonEarth butonmanyplanetsthroughout the universe and especially our home galaxy. And so that was a 1978 Japanese animewithabout60-70orsoepisodes.And it addressed the ancient astronaut theory fromaseriesperspective, becauseinJapan, backintheday, animewasnotforkids, itwas foradults Itairedonprimetime Andsothis primetimeshowwas100%,aregurgitation ofChariotsoftheGodsinthemostamazing of sci-fi, concepts The character Captain Futureisapulpfictioncharactercreatedby Edmund Hamilton in the 1910s-1920s So the Japanese anime is based on that But the books and the anime are only similar in nameandconcept, butnotnecessarilyinthe stories

Y: How about a wow, pinch-me moment or two that you experienced thanks to your amazingworkinthisfieldalltheseyears?

GAT: Well, the pinch-me moment happenseverytimethatIsitwithmyfellow contributorsonstageduringAncientAliens LIVE or back in the day with AlienCon whereyou’reinfrontof3,000-5,000people and they’re all screaming with excitement Thatwillforeverbeapinch-memomentfor allofusbecauseit’snotnormal, andsowe’ve hitanervewiththeaudience andweareso happy to be here, because we all know that it’s called show business not show friends And the only way forward in that is if you haveanaudience Soweareforeverindebted to the audience that we are still on the air, because they keep tuning in. Our reruns havealmostthesamenumbersasouroriginalnewepisodes

Also the cool thing about Ancient Aliens is that every episode is a standalone island. Youdon’thavetoknowwhathappenedthe week previous. Because some other shows, they’re very sequential, so unless you saw whathappenedlastweek, you’rekindoflost what’s going on this week. I know people whohavewatchedthererunsoverandover again, and they keep telling me “I see new thingsallthetimeineachepisode.”
