The custom-built miniboat, equipped with GPS tracking and weather sensors, was designed by students in the Sail Nauticus Academy—a year-round afterschool program that empowers Norfolk Public Schoolstudentsthroughsailingandmaritime exploration.PartoftheinternationalEducational Passages network the vessel will drift across oceans collecting real-time data and fostering global connections between young explorersworldwide

To celebrate the launch, Sail Nauticus Academy students boarded the Carnival Sunshine during its September 20 call to Norfolk.
