Welcome

to the third issue of Milieu. Thanks to you, our readers, we are growing by leaps and bounds. If you’ve noticed that this issue is heavier than the last one, it is. Your enthusiastic response and your financial support through advertising has allowed us to increase our size by 50 percent, proof positive that women truly are the economic drivers in this economy. This issue is full of smart stories, fresh ideas and inspiration. Our style editor, Licia Avelar scoured the island and then the world for some beautiful items featured on our style and trends pages. Our cover story, Tracking the Long Island Serial Killer, is written by Long Island Press reporter Jaclyn Gallucci, who has been on this case since before it was publicly acknowledged as one of the biggest unsolved crimes in Long Island’s history. Jaclyn tells us her story about the search for a killer through her own experiences. It’s fascinating reading and exclusive to Milieu readers. Endless Summer, our feature story, was compiled by Alex Karcev, with diverse and intriguing personalities sharing their thoughts on this timely subject. The cover art was photographed in Long Beach and created by our visionary art director, Jon Sasala. Jon’s version of the iconic Endless Summer poster was photographed using Long Island surfers, Alison LaBarte, Allison Rochford and Melissa June. We think this cover will be hanging on many walls and looked at wistfully during the winter months. Check out “Milieu Models” mother/ daughter duo June and Katie Avelar in our Sporty Style photo shoot on page 15. We’re looking for Long Island women to photograph for our upcoming issues. If interested, the information is on page 15. We wanted to include a feature that would help you decide where to go for a

girls’ night out. We placed a call to Brian Rosenberg, Long Island’s entertainment and nightlife expert for his suggestions. Girls Just Wanna Have Fun! is on page 47. Go and have a night out with your friends, you deserve it! Thanks, Brian! This issue’s centerfold Guy Who “Gets It”, is Jon Reese from West Islip and is a very inspiring story. I believe that we can be entertained without being pandered to and enlightened without being placated. Our job at Milieu is to bring you truthful, quality editorial with positive information and images that reinforce your strong sense of self. Oh, I almost forgot to mention that if you get to page 57 and all of a sudden things seem upside down, they are! If you’ll look at the back cover, it’s another front cover of our premiere issue of Milieu Milestones, our wedding, social and corporate events issue with Ideas for Life’s Defining Moments! Our Fall issue will be published on September 13. Until then, have a safe and happy summer! Warm Regards,

“I couldn’t imagine never teaching again. Thanks to South Nassau, I don’t have to.” Frequent fainting spells caused by neurocardiogenic syncope drove Janine Gentile from the teaching job she loved into the office of Lawrence Kanner, M.D., Director of the Electrophysiology and Arrhythmic Services at the South Nassau’s Center for Cardiovascular Health. The first Long Island hospital to implant the revolutionary Evia® pacemaker, Dr. Kanner used the world’s smallest, wireless remote pacemaker to help Janine get back into the classroom.

k Bar & Grill

The Long Island waterfront is not just a popular destination by day, it’s rocking at night. Long Islanders are flocking to bars and restaurants like Neptune Beach Club in the Hamptons, Off Key Tikki Bar on Patchogue Bay and Pop’s Seafood Shack & Grill on Reynolds Channel in Island Park. Neptune’s guarantees to entertain with a wide range of DJs, bands, and celebrity hosts, like LI’s own DJ Theo. A Hawaiian get-away with palm trees swaying awaits you at The Off Key Tikki Bar. Farther west, Pop’s is the place for a casual and fun night out. Situated right on the water, it’s ready, set, action on the beach, deck, indoors or out! So relax and enjoy live entertainment and a beautiful scenic view….Put your toes in the sand and grab a drink at one of these waterfront bars!

What’s SUP?

Aloha, Long Island! Finally, the ancient form of surfing in Hawaii has migrated here and Long Islanders are taking to the water on a stand-up paddleboard (SUP)! SUP is almost like walking on water (we said, almost) and offers a full body workout that’s a combination of surfing and paddling. According to SUP’ers, standing up gives a whole new perspective to the paddler and can be enjoyed on any body of water from the calm north shore to the wavy beaches on the south shore. “It’s a great summer activity because people can get out in the water and enjoy a physical activity. It’s a great core workout,” says Dave Waldo, Exec. Dir. of the WaterFront Center in Oyster Bay. On the South Shore, Long Island Stand Up Paddle Boarding Company in East Islip offers daily classes, sunset tours and SUP surfing lessons. For a more challenging and exciting SUP adventure, head east to Paddle Diva, which offers classes like SUP Yoga! Try yoga poses while floating on a SUP or Paddle Fitness, for the SUP’er who seeks to improve their racing skills!

Art. Fashion. Stone. Zicana in Westbury brings a unique mix of earth-inspired furniture, art and jewelry to Long Island, like their antique gold leaf finish Dominatore chair with blue velvet and Blue Lapis. Likewise, their 18K gold Ramo Ring features a highly polished petrified wood square adorned with eagle claw prongs. All of their products are handcrafted and commissioned in the United States and tailored in-house. “I liked fashion and art so I came up with this unique concept,” says Frank Marasco, Zicana’s president and CEO. ”Zicana delivers a combination of nature’s art, culture and a quality that’s precious.” Their collection also includes Concetto by Caesarstone, beautiful hand-crafted semi-precious stone surfaces for the home. The coolest part about the gallery is that the entire shopping space doubles as a party venue that can be rented out for the night. (8 Sylvester St., Westbury. 516-279-6909, Zicana.com).

Newly opened Serata in Long Beach is a destination for those who love to eat AND dance. Their menu features delectable Italian cuisine with some unique fare, like their chilled new Zucchini Squares—seasoned ricotta cheese wrapped inside grilled zucchini and finished with truffle oil and aged balsamic vinegar. Enjoy your lunch or dinner indoors or outside in the ocean breeze. They also offer beach club delivery! According to Serata’s manager, Joe D’Onofrio, “It’s not just dinner, but a night out.” And even though there’s no dance floor, D’Onofrio says, “People just get up and start dancing around the tables.” The playful mood of the restaurant is contagious as the night progresses, so head to the beach for a fun night out! Cool, smooth and sweet, “adult milkshakes” are the choice summer beverage, and for good reason. No longer are ice cream lovers limited to Mudslides. Get a kick with these grown-up versions of a child’s favorite! There’s an array of sophisticated spiked milkshakes to choose from, and they give new meaning to having “a cold one.” Head over to Bobby’s Burger Palace in Garden City or Lake Grove to savor the Mocha Kahlua Vodka Shake or the Vanilla Caramel Bourbon Shake. YUM! And you can always try your hand at creating an adult milkshake at home. Check out EndlessSimmer.com for recipes.

If you’re in a rush, forget the brush! Buns are hot and will only get hotter as the heat and humidity kick in. Thanks to a slew of celebrities, and the new ABC television show, Bunheads, high-onyour-head buns are once again fashionable. Kristen Stewart recently sported a jazzed-up bun with a simple chain perched from side to side during the premiere of Snow White and the Huntsman. Marion Cotillard rocked a giant voluminous bun in Cannes, surrounded by sparkling crystals and Emma Stone got in on the trend, wearing a messy bun topped with a gold barrette to the Met Gala in NYC. “Chain links are the perfect way to embellish an ordinary bun. The simple accessory creates an edgy, fairytale-like essence. Romance and darkness meet for one fashionable trend,” says hairstylist Tomy B of Tomy B Salon in Old Westbury.

Cocktail Culture

Happy Hour takes on a whole new meaning when you combine history with cocktails and high fashion. Don’t miss: “Cocktail Culture: The Glamorous Gold Coast Years From Prohibition to 1960”, a unique exhibit that highlights the evolution of American cocktails as well as the fashions that were inspired by them. The exhibit is open daily (11:30 a.m.–3:30 p.m.) through September 30 at the Coe Hall Mansion on the grounds of Planting Fields Arboretum State Historic Park (www.plantingfields. org) in Oyster Bay. On August 10, Coe Hall will host a special champagne party at 7 p.m. to celebrate the exhibition. The party will feature hors d’oeuvres, bocce, live Motown music by The City Sounds Motown Spectacular and, of course, cocktails.

Ruby Red Slippers Dorothy’s Wizard of Oz Ruby Red Slippers are arguably the most famous shoes in movie history. Manolo Blahnik and Jimmy Choo have fashioned their own versions of the famous red shoes and now we can show you how you can create your very own pair! You’ll need a pair of heels (preferably old ones or an inexpensive new pair), fine sandpaper and nail file, Mod-Podge, red glitter, a bowl, small paintbrush, and some newspaper. First “rough up” the entire surface and heels of the shoes with sandpaper. Use the nail file for hard to reach areas. Mix a small amount of glitter into the Mod-Podge, and with an artist’s paintbrush give the entire shoe a thick coat and then let dry. Repeat the painting and drying process until you feel your heels are worthy of the Yellow Brick Road! To prevent a “glitter trail” paint a clear layer of Mod-Podge to seal. Who needs GPS? If you get lost, just close your eyes, click your heels together three times and think to yourself, “There’s no place like home!”

If you really must leave Long Island, then head north to Beantown for a long weekend and reserve a room at Boston’s new boutique hotel, inspired by the city’s revolutionary spirit. At the Revere Hotel, located in the heart of Boston’s vibrant theatre district, each space complements the next, allowing you to create your own unique and original Boston experience. Choose from 30 deluxe suites, with the massive Presidential Suite being party central! Sleek and sophisticated, the Revere is filled with glamorous guest rooms all including an oversized balcony that overlooks the city skyline and the historic South End neighborhood. There’s plenty to see in the area including the Boston Children’s Museum, the Institute of Contemporary Art, and the new Boston Tea Party Ships & Museum. a long title for a new book from University of Wisconsin graduate student Danielle Henderson, who first started her Ryan Gosling memes as a silly way to remember different theories for her Gender and Women Studies classes. Her hilarious quotes placed on top of the steamy pictures of the actor she once used as notes were shared with all the world, thanks to her blog, FeministRyanGosling.tumblr.com. Henderson told us that the majority of the book will feature new material, but will include a few of her favorites from her blog. And while it’s all in good fun, she hopes that it will also help NBC Olympics Don’t spend time counting raise awareness. “I would love it if this book gave people a new way to approach medals from the couch, download the new NBC feminist ideas, or encouraged others to bring feminism into different parts of their Olympics App for iPhone, Android or tablet and lives,” says Danielle. (Available for pre-order on Amazon.com, $7.31) keep up with all the Olympic events from anywhere you are. You can even keep tabs on the games while you’re at work (although we can’t promise One expert on culture, English Professor Ellis that will turn out too well for you). Get the latest news, results, schedules, TV listings, Cashmore believes that the Fifty Shades of video highlights, photos and real-time Grey book craze among women will spark a medal counts. Repositioning Photos on Facebook

The Timeline has done nothing short of utterly confusing FB users since the switch. One of the most irksome aspects of the new format is giant photos that are positioned so only half of a person’s face is seen. Luckily, you can reposition and format the photo easily. If an image is off-center or you can’t see the main focus of the photo, reposition it by clicking the “Edit or Remove” pencil icon on the top right and selecting “Reposition Photo.” Then just click and drag until your photo is exactly where you want it to be.

The Montauk Beach House

The Montauk Beach House opened this June after extensive renovations, transforming the former Ronjo Resort Motel into a luxury beach resort. Unique accomodations range from The Whitewater Lofts with vintage furniture to The Moonlight Suites with claw foot baths and The Whitewater Garden Rooms fit with private outdoor gardens. Mosey around the property and check out No. 50, the membersonly beach club, nap on a canopy bed, go swimming or have a cocktail at the cabana bar. “We’re reigniting the spirit of the once iconic and landmark property in a new heyday,” says Chris Jones, co-owner of The Montauk Beach House. “We’re an eclectic mix of European chic style, blended with a relaxed beach vibe and a bit of decadent luxury. We think of ourselves as a rather splendid place to stay the night.” (55 South Elmwood Ave., Montauk, NY. 631-668-2112, TheMBH.com) milieuli.com

ENDLESS SUMMER? In 1966 The Endless Summer was first introduced as a surf movie that continues to capture the imagination of every new generation. The idea for The Endless Summer was that if you had enough time and money it would be possible to follow the summer around the world, making it endless. The thought of an endless summer has inspired the names of a summer drink, a Beach Boys album, a makeup collection, countless

boats, a band, a book, a restaurant, a taco truck, a flower, a mansion, a pool cleaning company and a surf shop, to name a few. Since we live on one of the most beautiful islands in the world, enrobed by miles and miles of white sand on both the ocean and the sound, we asked locals and visitors what their idea of an Endless Summer was. Most summer plans include backyard or beach barbeques, pool parties, weekend

There are endless… summer possibilities… right here on Long Island. —Compiled by Alex Karcev

By Jaclyn Gallucci jgallucci@longislandpress.com The horn blows. Then a puff of smoke. It’s 6 a.m. and already 84 degrees on Fordham Street. Officers, faceless silhouettes in the early morning sun, line the pier, a dead-end area off-limits to the public. They wait, pacing at the water’s edge. Then a rumble from behind. A white truck barrels through and slows down before one of the officers waves the driver through rusty gates. At the end of the pier the truck stops, now just a small white square seen in the rearview mirror of a parked car that isn’t supposed to be here… I wrote that back in 2010 at the end of a residential side street in the Bronx and it was hot that day, brutally hot. I couldn’t turn the air conditioner on because I couldn’t turn my car on. I couldn’t turn my car on because, well, I wasn’t supposed to be there. Trying to blend in among parked cars, I sat low in my seat, grateful for the random breeze sliding through my barely opened windows, and waited. Like soldiers, men in red and white jump suits poured out of a bus with caged windows and marched over to the back of that white box truck. The rear door is rolled up. Inside are rows of stacked pine boxes. This is where the Long Island Serial Killer case began for me. Those boxes contained New York’s poor and unidentified dead, and every week, like clockwork, full trucks pull up to the port at the end of Fordham Street and Riker’s Island prisoners, anxious for a day in the sun, line up to escort these unnamed men and women, sometimes just pieces of them, by ferry to their final resting place— Hart Island, New York’s Potter’s Field, a century-old floating mass grave. I don’t normally start my Fridays sweating it out, literally and figuratively, on New York City Department of Corrections’ private property, but I was working on a story about Long Island’s unidentified murder victims— men and women whose bodies had been found in suitcases, in plastic bags, cut in pieces and strewn about LI for years and, in some cases, decades. Many The Long Island Press story about Long Island’s unidentified murder victims ran in July 2010. There are currently dozens of victims found on Long Island who remain nameless. There are more than 13,000 on record nationally.

were prostitutes and likely never reported missing at all, like the woman Nassau detectives call “Peaches,” whose mutilated torso, with a peach tattoo on her left breast, was stuffed in a green Rubber Maid container found by a father and son hiking in Hempstead Lake State Park in the summer of 1997; or the women whose mutilated torsos were discovered in the Manorville Pine Barrens in 2000 and 2003, one of them with what once was an angel wing tattoo on her hip, now barely recognizable under dozens of jagged razor blade cuts left by her killer in a crude attempt to conceal her identity. These were all cold cases. Then Megan Waterman disappeared. Before her initials were spray painted in hot pink on the side of Ocean Parkway, and before she made international headlines as the victim of a serial killer, Waterman was just another name on the local police blotter. On a Thursday night in October 2009, she was arrested for soliciting an undercover police officer she arranged to meet through Craigslist at an Extended Stay America in Bethpage. She returned home to Maine shortly after, only to come back to Long Island eight months later, when she would solicit an unknown killer instead, who would become the focus of Suffolk County’s homicide squad for the next two years. But Megan wasn’t a murder victim then. She was a missing person. She had fallen in with the wrong crowd, more specifically the wrong guy, who convinced her it would be a lot easier to support her 3-year-old daughter if she sold her body rather than work two jobs. At the time,

a common theory was that Megan was a victim of sex trafficking, and that her pimp boyfriend was somehow involved. At least that was the best-case scenario. The worst was that Megan was abducted while walking alone, possibly to pick up something at the gas station down the block from the Hauppauge Holiday Inn Express where she was staying in the early hours of June 6, 2010. The area around the hotel, itself no stranger to illegal activity, is largely industrial or undeveloped land, a dumping ground for everything from chunks of broken concrete to filthy couch cushions. It was here, on surveillance video, Megan was last seen alive walking away from the hotel alone to meet the killer she had connected with on Craigslist, police later determined. Whatever happened after that was out of sight of parking lot cameras. Either Megan was alive or she had to be here, somewhere. offering support to the families of the missing, were the only ones besides her family who were making noise about Megan’s disappearance. I saw the posters Megan’s family posted in the Shop Rite shopping center in Hauppauge, and every time I passed the hotel, which towers over the Long Island Expressway, I thought about Megan and the nearly nonexistent media coverage of her disappearance—and the other nameless victims whose cases had since gone cold. After all, we are in the business of telling stories and, unlike missing mothers, teachers and honor roll students, whose cases tend to make not only local, but national headlines, these girls weren’t very sympathetic characters in the eyes of the general public. Lucky for me, I work for a media outlet that doesn’t really care about that. Megan was going to be our next cover story. I went down to the parking lot of the former Oak Beach Inn on Ocean Parkway to start writing. It was September, technically the end of beach season, so I figured an empty parking lot overlooking the water was a great place to concentrate. I had no idea Megan was just down the road the whole time. Or that the missing heads and limbs of three of the unidentified murder victims I had written about in my previous story were also there. So were the bodies of seven others. So was Shannan Gilbert, who had vanished one month before Megan. But at that time, I didn’t know about Shannan’s disappearance from the isolated gated community just beyond the parking lot. Megan’s mom, Lorraine Ela, had just gotten some air time on HLN’s Jane Velez-Mitchell show to ask the public for information about her missing daughter. After the transcript was posted online, Lorraine said she didn’t exactly get the kind of response she thought she would. I asked her what she meant. “Just comments that people make,” she told me. “Like if her mother and father were any type of parents they would have never let her get into this and she deserves what she gets… and stuff like that. I try not to pay attention to it because I’ve responded but you’re not going to change how people feel no matter how much you tell them.” That became increasingly clear as time went on as I received a lot of negative comments myself for even writing about Megan’s case. “Leah Herschel Walsh was murdered by her HUSBAND,” reads one response to an article in which I compared the media coverage surrounding the 2007 disappearance of Leah Walsh, a Bethpage teacher later found murdered by her husband, to Megan’s case. “She was a TEACHER and a positive benefit to society, taken down by the man who had promised to love her for his whole life. In sharp and stunning contrast, Megan Waterman was a PROSTITUTE and a CRIMINAL who knowingly associated with CRIMINAL STRANGERS.” I have a folder full of these comments. Most of them are anonymous. Shockingly there have even been a few individual members of the media who have publically criticized the Long Island Press for portraying the women found at the beach as anything more than “dead hookers.” They know who they are. Three months later, it was my turn to work the Saturday shift when a media alert from the Suffolk County Police Department came through saying possible human remains had been found in the Gilgo Beach area. It was December 2010, just weeks before the holidays. Megan was still missing, but there not much to connect a woman last seen at a hotel 35 miles away to this South Shore highway, worlds away and full of wildlife, any of which could account for those “possible human remains.” 26

The Setting for Long Island Women

A few days later, stuck in rush-hour traffic on the Meadowbrook State Parkway, I heard a local traffic report warning drivers to avoid westbound Ocean Parkway—a popular detour for Manhattan commuters returning home to Suffolk County—due to police activity near Gilgo Beach, which usually means there’s been an accident. I headed there anyway, pulled over and turned my headlights off. Through the brush that divides the east and westbound lanes of the parkway in that area, I could see bright lights and every A police vehicle variety of emergency vehicle, ofblocks the entrance ficers carrying long poles, police to the Oak Beach community as the cars being driven off the road marsh Shannan and straight into the brush, headGilbert was last lights being used as spotlights— seen by is searched in December 2011. they could only make it in a few On the right is a cell feet—with brights turned on to phone photo taken light up the otherwise pitch black the night police discovered three more area. It was December so 6 p.m. sets of remains looked like midnight and a windy while investigating combination of icy rain and snow the area where one had begun falling. Then my editor set was found days before in December called. I told him I had a feeling 2010. (LI Press) those remains were human. He told me they were—and what I was watching just yards away was the recovery of three more bodies, one of them would be identified as Megan. Five minutes later there was a knock at my window. The police told me I had to leave. I only had my old Blackberry with me at the time. I have a few pictures of blurred lights taken through icy rain, full of the kind of orbs and squiggly lines that tend to make up bad cell-phone shots, but to me they are perfect snapshots of the mad chaos of those hours at the beach. That night began a year of nonstop searches and media briefings, and for awhile it seemed like every time a press conference was called it was because there was another body— and none of them Shannan Gilbert. Megan’s name was suddenly everywhere, and it made me angry. I was happy her case was finally getting the publicity, but it seemed like the media were collectively killing her off, prematurely declaring she was victim of a serial killer, simply because it would be a great plot addition to this real-life crime drama playing out in front of us. Megan’s story had suddenly become a best-seller. Eventually Megan’s body was positively identified and I watched half-dressed reporters stumble out of their jeans and into dress pants in the Oak Beach parking lot at the first sight of a vehicle with out-of-state license plates, like those driven by the victim’s families. Cameramen would then crouch and huddle at the feet of the families, sticking cameras in their faces, ready to catch the first tears that fell. They were just doing their jobs—my job—but it made me not want to be part of this industry anymore. The parking lot where, just weeks before, I had gone for solitude, suddenly became a media camping ground. There were now 10 sets of remains, at least four victims

of a serial killer, one missing woman and every news outlet from our local stations to Al Jazeera were there. It got to the point where I couldn’t even drive into the parking lot or walk down the Jones Beach boardwalk, without reporters, not knowing I was one of them, sticking microphones in my face asking how I felt about living so close to a serial killer. Our office was flooded with calls from around the world from international news outlets looking to do interviews with local press regarding the “Long Island Serial Killer.” I made my television debut in Canada. I started getting letters from most likely disgruntled neighbors pointing fingers and met drifters alongside Ocean Parkway asking me strange questions. All of these encounters were reported to police. But I met other people, too. Janice Smolinski, whose son Billy has been missing since 2004, is lobbying to get the Help Find the Missing Act—or Billy’s Law—passed, legislation that would require the FBI to share information, excluding sensitive and confidential data, with the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs), a public database of missing and unidentified people. I met Tony Evelina, an area director of the Doe Network—a volunteer organization dedicated to finding the missing and identifying the unidentified—who spends his own time doing just that. I went to New Jersey and stood on the marsh land where four other women working the streets of Atlantic City were found dead, a case with many parallels to the Gilgo case, but not believed to be related at this time. I went to the Blairstown cemetery 170 miles away where Princess Doe, thought to be from Long Island but working as a prostitute in New Jersey, was found beaten to death 30 years ago. And then I met Maureen Sanchez, whose sister Judy O’Donnell disappeared 32 years ago. Judy had also worked as a prostitute when she went missing. Maureen explained how her sister went from being an A student to working the streets of New York City, and she said something simple enough that stuck with me through all

of this: No one says, ‘I want to be a prostitute when I grow up.’ She shared with me a poem her sister had written in high school, and she told me about the trauma her sister went through during her teen years. I realized one of the saddest truths in all of this: that these women were victims long before they ever set foot on the streets. Judy was not one of the women found at the beach, but while reporting on these other cases, I came across the sketch of an unidentified woman who fit Judy’s description. In 2003, when construction workers were breaking up a block of concrete in the basement of an abandoned Hell’s Kitchen building, they hit a rolledup red carpet with the skeleton of a young woman inside, her neck and limbs wrapped by an electrical cord. The 46th Street tenement was a known hangout for prostitutes in the early ’80s—and within blocks of Judy’s old stomping grounds. Today, it is still abandoned with cinder blocks and broken wood panels covering the windows—and bars over the ones leading to the basement. Investigators said there are enough similarities in the two women’s dental records for a possible connection, but DNA had to be used to make a definitive match. It’s been more than a year and we’re still waiting for the results. DNA analysis is an already lengthy process, made longer by a current backlog in the New York City medical examiner’s office. In December 2011, I was back in the Oak Beach parking lot, as the Gilgo victims’ families placed crosses, flowers and balloons at each of the sites along Ocean Parkway where their loved ones were found. The orange arrows and dots that previously marked the area had faded and police had gone back earlier that week to spray paint the initials of all the women on the roadway, so their families would know where to put the memorials. There had been another media alert sent out that morning. The police, who for days had been searching the marsh where Shannan was last seen—and who had already found Shannan’s pocketbook, jeans, shoes and lip gloss—were going to make another announcement in Oak Beach. Megan’s mom Lorraine and Melissa Cann, the sister of Maureen Brainard-Barnes, were already there waiting. Gus Colletti, one of the last people to see Shannan alive was also there, being swarmed by the media. Shannan’s mom, Mari, was on her way. But the parade of black Suburbans was already making its way into the parking lot. Former Suffolk County Police Commissioner Richard Dormer stepped out of one of them and walked over to the pool of mics. Lorraine and Melissa held hands and closed their eyes. A sea of cameraman had formed at their feet, lenses pointing up, waiting for their reaction to whatever Above: During a December 2010 press conference in Oak Beach, former Suffolk County Police Commissioner Richard Dormer confirms that the reit was Dormer was about to say. mains of Shannan Gilbert had been found and that her death was believed “After an exhaustive, methodical, massive search we to be accidental. While sunbathers and swimmers head to the sand, the pavilion is an equally exciting place that has weekly live entertainment (TheBeachHuts.com/calendar). Camping is allowed on the

bay side of Moriches Inlet, for self-contained trailers and campers. Surfing is not allowed though many surfers can be found riding the waves in an unprotected area not far from the beach.

Jones Beach Wantagh

Fee: $10 For those who want more to do besides sunbathe, head over to Jones Beach for some great activities, like swimming in their two pools, baseball or golf. Beachgoers can enjoy lunch at Friendly’s and Auntie Ann’s. Fields 4 and 5 tend to fill up fast. If you’re looking for a little bit more privacy, visit Field 6, but don’t walk too far to the east or you will find yourself among nude sunbathers. Jones Beach is also home to the Nikon Theater, the largest outdoor venue on Long Island, where you can catch acts like Wiz Khalifa or Jimmy Buffet while enjoying a view of the ocean.

Hither Hills Montauk

Fee: Car fee is $10 daily. Camping $28 per night weekdays, $32 per night on weekends. Hither Hills is known for its campgrounds, which are probably the best on Long Island. Walk mere feet from your camper or tent and you’re on the ocean. Picnic tables with fireplaces make for a great

spot to eat, and there is also a place that serves food and other convenience items. If you want to camp, make sure you call well in advance—many people start booking spots a year early!

Main Beach

East Hampton

Fee: $20 daily/free on weekends, no parking available Main Beach was named to the world’s Top 10 Beaches in 2011 by Dr. Beach (Stephen P. Leatherman, Laboratory for Coastal Research director at Florida International University) The beach is large and is one of the more popular East Hampton beaches, partly because it’s the only beach on the South Fork to have pay per day parking. It’s $20 to park during the week, but there’s no parking on the weekends, so beachgoers have to walk from town or take a shuttle from near the train station. The beach’s pavilion, offers clean restrooms, good food and lockers. If you want to sit on a clean, natural beach and pretend you’re in a tropical paradise without leaving Long Island, this is the place to go.

It’s a great place to go to get away from it all and relax, so if you’re looking for a party, you probably want to go elsewhere. But if you’re a nature lover, there’s no better beach on Long Island. Once you step off the ferry, you’ll feel as if you’ve just passed through the mists of Avalon. Growing up in West Babylon, Jon Reese never really had a best friend. Even during his college years at Yale University, where he was a superstar athlete who excelled in both lacrosse and football, Jon did not have a close confidant. He concentrated on winning, not on lasting friendships. It wasn’t until Jon became a major player on Wall Street that he thought he’d made a friend for life when he met Timothy Coughlin from new York City, who was originally from Manhasset. “We were both strong alpha males,” Jon recalls. “We were in our prime and had our whole lives ahead of us.”

Young or Mature, Married or Single, White Collar, Blue Collar, Green Collar, Professional, Student or Retiree. Guys Who "Get It" are Role Models, Leaders and a Positive Influence in the Long Island community.

Guys Who "Get It" Founder Make It Count Foundation

Jon Reese

On the inside of Jon’s left ankle is a constant reminder of his friend Tim and the MIC mission: an American flag tattoo with “9-11-01” above the flag and below it

His prowess in sports pales in comparison to his loyalty to his late friend Tim and his dedication to a cause larger than himself.

With that goal in mind, in 2009 Jon officially founded the Make It Count Foundation (MIC). His organization provides resources for housing, health and education for those in need. “If you’re secure in those three elements, you can make it,” he says. Jon works mostly with veterans who have been referred to Make It Count through various veteran and military organizations. The foundation works with a number of other nonprofits, including United Way of LI, Habitat for Humanity, YMCA, and Big Brothers Big Sisters of LI. He says that 100 percent of all donations go directly to help those in need. He’s proud that he’s been able to turn his vision for Make It Count into a reality. “We’ve reached hundreds of families here on Long Island,” he says. Though 80 percent of Make It Count’s resources have been devoted to housing needs, Jon also oversees the growth of the health and education facets of the foundation. MIC’s Bike for Fitness program is being expanded, and their collaboration with United Way of LI last year resulted in the distribution of more than 800 backpacks filled with school supplies to students in Brentwood, Copiague and Central Islip schools. Jon, who was the most prolific scorer in Yale lacrosse history and the captain of their championship football team, may not be the award-winning athlete like he was in the past, but his competitive spirit hasn’t diminished one bit. A member of the national Lacrosse Hall of Fame, Jon coaches lacrosse for West Islip High School, whose varsity boys’ teams have won the new York State championships five times in the last seven years. They clinched their latest Class A title in June.

SERVING THOSE WHO SERVE

OPERATION RENOVATION

At the time Coughlin was a managing director in Cantor Fitzgerald’s bond division in the World Trade Center and Reese was the managing director at HSBC Securities in their fixed-income trading department. Sept. 11, 2001 changed everything. Coughlin died in the attacks. “A few hours after the planes hit, I made my way uptown to Timmy’s apartment,” Jon says. “I waited with Timmy’s wife and family, hoping for the best. I’m not sure if it was one, two, three days or more. Someone contacted us and asked for someone to come downtown and identify who they thought was Timmy. A few hours later Tim’s brothers came back with his wedding ring.” Jon was devastated. “To have that [friendship] ripped from me, especially in that way was terrible,” he says. Instead of letting the traumatic events of 9/11 overtake him, Jon decided to make some dramatic changes in the way he lived. “I didn’t want life to go on as it was before September 11th, so I left Wall Street to spend more time with my family and help people in my community,” Jon explains. “I wanted to share the message that life is short and we need to do everything we can to make the world a better place...to make the most of our lives...to ‘make it count.’”

Yoga has spread its wings and taken flight, literally. Students of Aerial Yoga propel themselves to new heights with a silk that allows the body to be lifted off the ground while different asanas are performed. “It’s a detoxifying cleanse for the body,” explains April Yokiboski from Aerial Yoga Fitness in Riverhead. “Aerial Yoga stimulates all the different organs because your thoracic cavity is turned upside down so everything gets moved around, stimulated and massaged. It’s really great for digestion.” Yokiboski adds, “After practicing for one year, you’re so much looser, whether you have neck issues, upper back issues or compression in the back. After you practice Aerial Yoga, you’ll find a relief you can’t get anywhere else.”

There’s many reasons why women might lose their “mojo.” Hormonal changes and medications to the major stressors of everyday life can have an affect on your libido. Zestra, a topical blend of botanical oils and extracts, is clinically proven to work. “It increases sensitivity to touch, so women feel things sooner, deeper, longer and more intensely,” says Rachel Braun Scherl, president of Semprae Laboratories, manufacturers of Zestra. “Intimacy and satisfaction are such a critical part of a woman’s life and what we’re talking about is a safe, easy and effective way to have enjoyable sex. If you don’t like it, don’t use it again. If you do love it, it works for seven out of 10 women, and for some of those women it’s life changing.”

The VI Peel, a medical-grade chemical peel, is recommended by many aestheticians as a skin treatment. With the VI Peel, a synergistic blend of five acids that no other peel offers is applied to the skin to remove damaged layers, allowing healthy skin underneath to be exposed, while collagen is encouraged to grow.

Fusion Skin spa

in Deer Park asks clients to first come in for a consultation. “If there’s a lot of sun damage, one treatment is not going to do it. You’re going to need several treatments,” says Paula, a medical esthetician for the spa. “It’s based on everyone’s individual needs.” The actual peel only takes about 20 minutes, so Fusion adds some nice touches while the peel is drying. “We try to make it more than just a typical peel,” Paula explains. “We cleanse the skin, and put a nice, hot towel on the face to remove it.” While the peeling takes a few days, during which clients must use an aftercare package, the results are worth it. “Your skin is going to be illuminated and fresh. It’s going to be radiant.” Fusion Skin Spa, 798 Grand Ave., Deer Park, 631-940-1672, FusionSkinSpa.com

Why women in their 20s and 30s are taking a Break from men

* milieuli.com

Many single women in their 20s and 30s are taking a break from dating to, well, enjoy life. Why? Jessica* was only dating Ted a few months when he told her that he thought he had an Oedipus complex. “His mom came over and cooked him dinner a couple of times a week and left it in the fridge for him, and as she was cooking she would do his laundry,” the 33-year-old recounts. “He actually said to me, ‘I’m beginning to wonder if I need a woman in my life, because I have my mother, and, well, I can always just jerk off.’” Yes, ladies, this is what we’re dealing with. “It’s like you have to prepare to go into battle,” Jessica says about today’s dating scene. “You have to mentally psych yourself up for it. “I used to think I was the only one, and now I meet so many girls who are like, ‘Forget it, it’s just not worth it.’” Rachel is one of them. “I’ve been in and out of relationships throughout the years and I’m just to the point right now where I’m frustrated with it,” the 36-year-old says. In some ways, it’s easier to date more than it ever was. Internet dating sites allow

Local Treat < 100 Calories!

single people to hook up with each other based on mutual interests, or physical specifications that include weight and height ranges. Unfortunately, these sites do not equate to more successful relationships. “The Internet is a haven for guys to fool around,” says Maureen Tara Nelson, owner of Private Matchmaking in Melville. Jessica agrees, adding that her 35-yearold male neighbor calls Match.com “Matchbang.” “He told me, ‘Women are lonely. All I have to do is tell them everything they want to hear. There’s sites like this where I sign on and they give me 50 available women within my height range within a 2-mile radius.’” Jessica has not had the best of luck on dating sites. One man she met told her he opens international zoos, but when she “Googled” him, he turned out to have 25 charges against him from the past three The Diet Shop in Ronkonkoma carries a healthy and hard-to-find line of products including low-cal, low-carb, glutenfree, etc. For our under-100 calorie challenge, Marilyn Bruno, owner of The Diet Shop suggested we try Glenny’s 100-calorie brownie. “This brownie will satisfy your sweet tooth and it’s high in fiber and low in calories,” Marilyn says. What makes the treat even better is that it has all-natural ingredients, and Glenny’s line of sweets are made right here on Long Island!

North Shore Medical Spa and Vein Center in Lake Success also asks clients to

come in for a consultation to determine how many sessions are needed. Before the VI Peel is applied the client’s skin is cleansed, as it would be for a normal facial. According to aesthetic director Dina Weil, this gets rid of any oil particles in the skin or any surface debris. “At first they don’t feel very much, but the real activity happens a few days later when the skin starts peeling,” Weil said. Clients are given an aftercare kit, and advised to stay inside for about five to seven days and keep the skin moist and hydrated. “It’s what goes on during the post care that’s going to determine how well the result is and how well they’re going to heal. It depends on your genetics; it depends on how you take care of your skin,” Weil says. years for fraud, repossession and extortion. Another potential date was not only married, but was quoted in a New York Post interview about how dating websites led him to his wife! Rachel also had trouble with suitors whom she met from different dating websites. “The picture they drew online was not who I was meeting in person,” she said. The Internet sleazeballs aren’t the only reason women like Rachel and Jessica are single. Both are successful career women, but they say that finding a suitable man is not so easy. “I have a great group of friends who are attractive and successful, and they’re still single,” Jessica says. “And we’re looking around going ‘Where are the male counterparts for us?’” Nelson says that this is a trend she’s seeing more and more. “The women are actually more sophisticated than the guys that they’re dating, and they’re fed up with that. So the girls are really now coming to me, saying that they are fed up with the bar scene and fed up with the Internet,” she says. Nelson says that the men that use her services must go through a strict screening process to make sure that they are stable and really want a committed relationship. These women are by no means snobby, but say that they have had boyfriends who assume they look down on them because they have a better job. “I don’t care if you’re a construction worker or a business executive—as long as you’re trying, you’re respectable and you have your life together,” Jessica says.

Some people might call “men-opause” women picky, but the truth is these girls just don’t want to repeat the same mistakes their friends have made. “I have a friend who is separated, I have another friend who seemed to be in a perfect marriage who complains about it, I have another who is in a partnership and not getting the full commitment out of it,” Rachel says. “At first, I used to be upset that they’re in it and I’m not, but I’m realizing that the grass isn’t greener on the other side. It doesn’t always mean that the better place is to be married.” “Believe it or not, there are just as many guys as girls who do want to get married and do it right the first time,” Nelson says. “Everybody knows what it used to be like with our parents, with everybody getting divorced and picking the wrong people. So the 20and the 30-year-olds now, regardless of gender, all realize the importance of doing it right the first time.” Both Rachel and Jessica stress that they are not giving up on men for good, and do believe that they will eventually find that special someone. They just don’t want to settle. “I just feel that right now I want to work on fulfilling what I need: my needs, my wants, my dreams,” Rachel says. “I feel that when I find that guy, he will just fit into the picture. I want a man who I can share my life with, not be my whole life.” “If he’s out there I’ll find him. I’m not at all depressed or sad about it,” Jessica says. “In the meantime I’m having fun and getting some good stories.” lchrist@MilieuLI.com

Operation Cheer Box The Power of Giving

It’s never too early to introduce your child to the concept of helping others. LI mom Jan Brunswick founded Operation Cheerbox as a way for children to experience the power of giving. First the child chooses who might need a box of “cheer.” Next the child decorates the box, and then decides what to include. Children may go with an adult to buy things for the box. An anonymous letter is written by the child to let them know someone is thinking of them. The box is filled, sealed and labeled with the intended recipient (child, senior, shelter animal). The boxes are delivered to hospitals, nursing homes and animal shelters. “When I bring the boxes and my children with me to nursing homes, the residents just light up,” Jan says. “At animal shelters, the children get to pet and hold the animals…They just love the extra attention.” Visit OperationCheerbox.org for more information.

Mickey Mouse Produce

By the end of this year, a “Mickey Check” sticker will be affixed to select healthy food products at Disney locations. The next stop for the sticker will be the shelves of local supermarkets. The Walt Disney Company recently announced plans to introduce new nutrition standards for kid-related food advertising on TV, radio and the web. These guidelines promote eating fruits and vegetables, limiting the intake of calories and fat. Research showed kids between the ages of four and six preferred the snack with the Mickey sticker rather than the same snack without. Disney says their licensed produce will be competitively priced with comparable products. Will you choose the produce with the Mouse ears?

Breaking into the fashion industry can be very difficult, especially for young and inexperienced designers. Of course, there is no age limit to becoming a successful fashion designer, but it takes a lot of time and talent to develop a portfolio and then get the exposure to reveal your individual style to the public. Christopher McCann, a recent graduate of Friends Academy in Locust Valley, got his opportunity to showcase his creative talents when he was asked to develop and produce a final art project as part of the curriculum. For his project, McCann decided to experiment with different forms of art to create new and exciting women’s fashions. For his award-winning project, Chris used everyday items like newspapers and real leaves, and with his eye for fashion and clever interpretation created wearable women’s clothes. Chris says he took his inspiration from the seasons, and combined different color schemes and materials to create the clothing. He says that the

idea for the project came from his belief that you can find “beauty in anything.” His one-of-a-kind newspaper dress, a sleeveless high-low style made almost entirely of newspaper, drew many accolades from both his classmates and the faculty. Chris said that this dress helped inspire the other designs in his project. McCann’s project was unconventional yet chic and fashion forward, which is why it’s no surprise that his favorite designer is Alexander McQueen. McCann says that the famous designer inspires him because he is not afraid to be creative and different. The young designer’s passion for fashion was first ignited by summers spent at performing arts camp, where he learned new art techniques like sculpting with paper mâché, and where his familiarity with the fashion world expanded. McCann will take his creative skills to Kenyon College in Ohio this fall, where one of his majors will be in theater for scenic design. This rising superstar is one to watch!

Funny Fiance Gift The “Anti-Cheating Ring” is sure to keep your man in line if he should decide to stray! This titanium wedding ring might look like any ol’ wedding band, but there’s negative engraving on the inside, so if by any chance your hubby slides his ring off, a mark is left on the skin reading, “I’m Married”. Wedding Centerpieces

Natural plants and herbs are replacing tall floral arrangements as centerpieces. Wedding herbs like rosemary, sage, myrtle, and ivy that have been used for centuries are once again growing in popularity. Herbs also carry special meanings which can bring another dimension to the wedding celebration when their legends are shared with family and friends. “They want to be more into nature,” says Francesca Leonardini, owner of Dazzling Affairs in Mineola. “There has been a surge in using plants or illuminating flowers with natural elements such as moss, stones, and branches. Brides and grooms are looking to do something different. I think everything else has been played out,” she added. The best part about the centerpieces is they’re totally DIY. Just remember to water the herbs a day or two before the big day so they’re fragrant and lush! kexquisitetouch.com

Unique Venues Couples who are looking for a modern yet vintage wedding reception are choosing barns as their venue! Decorators and wedding planners are transforming barns from simple shabby-chic to all-out elegance. You don’t have to live in the Midwest, there are beautiful and unique barn venues right here on LI! The Barn at Vineyard’s Edge in Mattituck offers relaxed charm that can only be found on a farm. Bedell Cellars in Cutchogue also offers a barn-like venue with beautiful vaulted ceilings. Amy Finno, senior vice president of events at Bedell Cellars in Cutchogue says, “Outdoor spaces like the pavilion at Bedell Cellars are wonderful for hosting weddings. It allows the client the opportunity to take a beautiful raw space and transform it into something truly magical.”

Honeymoon Keepsake

Honeymoon trinkets and knickknacks are fun to buy and display, but a one-of-a-kind piece of wall art will truly capture your special trip together as newlyweds. This craft is simple and something that you can work on together: Find the perfect spot on the beach with smooth damp sand and make a handprint with your left hand. Then, have your husband do the same with his hand about an inch away. Next, take your rings off and position them upright in the sand in the imprint of both of your ring fingers (do this a good distance from the water!). Snap a few photos of your sand art and at home, have your unique honeymoon keepsake beautifully matted and framed!

Wedding Favors Many couples are foregoing the traditional wedding favor for a gift that is unique and meaningful. Handwritten notes have taken the place of favors at each place setting indicating that a charitable donation was made in the guest’s honor. Couples who wish to make a wedding donation to their favorite charity and still bestow their guests with a fabulous favor are giving favors that also give back. Wild Wines, a program used by Volunteers for Wildlife, Inc. in Lattingtown donates a portion of the proceeds from wine purchases to wildlife rescue and care like for resident owl Duncan (pictured, photo credit: Carlos Varon). More than $1.7 million has been donated to Wild Wines since 2007, according to Craig Bourque, their director of retail operations.

Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue This 14-karat Gold and Diamond Edwardian Flower Pin features a 1.55 carat diamond center stone surrounded by more than 81 smaller diamonds and makes for the perfect sparkling addition to a belt or an updo. New LingerieInspired Bridal Line Richard Nicoll’s Diamonds may be forever, but they aren’t as popular as they once were for engagement rings. Now, many brides-to-be desire colored stones, especially rubies. “People are looking for alternative gemstones,” says David Lash, owner of Northeast Gemological Corp. in Huntington. He adds that most people opting for the unique colored gemstone engagement ring are doing so thanks to celebrities like Kate Middleton (sapphire) and Priscilla Chan Zuckerberg (ruby).

Dan Lecca

Like Cinderella’s glass slippers, shoes are of the utmost importance (even if they spend all day hiding under a giant ball gown!) and brides everywhere search near and far for the perfect pair. Christian Louboutin is making dreams come true by teaming up with Disney to create an updated version of the princess’s famous glass slippers, in celebration of the re-release of Cinderella later this fall. The heels are drenched in Swarovski crystals, butterflies and lace but may remain just a dream to most of us. The heels are part of a special giveaway and only a few lucky ladies will score a pair!

Bridal Braids Braids are the newest bridal “do” including the classic mermaid braid, sexy back braid and the milkmaid braid. The renewed interest in braids is thanks to both famous movie and TV characters like Khaleesi from Game of Thrones for example. Tomy B, owner of Tomy B Salon in Westbury agrees, “Hit TV shows and movies have a major influence on hair and fashion.” Richard Calcasola, owner of Maximus Salon in Carle Place also thanks entertainment for popularizing the style. He explains more extravagant options, “You can accessorize braids with beautiful pearls, gold ribbon, string, rhinestones,” and raves of the rewards of bridal braids, “While dancing and posing, the hairstyle just stays together better.”

Ruby Rings

highly anticipated collection “Tie the Knot” recently hit TopShop stores featuring a cool mix of sexy and modern wedding and bridesmaids’ dresses in shades of white and pink. His collection uses silk, lace and sheer and bear his signature clean lines. “These pieces are perfect as party dresses too, if you’re not the marrying kind,” said Nicoll. ($180 to $700, Topshop stores and Topshop.com)

Dresses

Finally, some astute women have figured out that white is not their most flattering color, so they’re wearing some unexpected hues down the aisle. Pale pink and even bold black gowns have been shown on the runway recently, but take it from Vera Wang, red is the color for the standout bride. For the more traditional bride who wants a trendier look, many are looking at Carolina Herrera’s 2013 Spring line that includes beautiful ivories and soft champagnes that give a little kick to a centuries old custom. “Designers want to be a little more creative and introduce something fresh,” says Cristina De Marco, senior buyer at Bridal Reflections in Carle Place. De Marco adds, “Blush is the color that is moving forward.” If straying too far from tradition makes you blush, you can always choose a classic white gown and add a splash of color like actress Drew Barrymore, when she accessorized with a black satin belt. While some wedding trends seem to fade as quickly as they arrive, it’s a safe bet brides who are looking for a distinctive look on their special day will be opting for some color.

Desserts Mini-delicacies served in shot glasses are on the hot list, not only are they delicious, they allow guests to mix, mingle or dance the night away! Cakes, mousses and parfaits are being downsized to a delicious bite that satisfies your sweet tooth and leaves you guilt free. “You’re seeing a lot of dessert tables, people are looking for a variety,” explains Monica Tarantino of Bellmore-based A Taste Of Home Bakery, who says cookie bars are super popular right now. “Everyone wants something a little different.” Tarantino says brides are still opting for a cake, it’s just smaller and now accompanied by individual pastries and desserts. One of the most popular choice petite desserts are cake pops that have “popped” up on the wedding scene and are a cute alternative to a traditional wedding cake or as a favor to take home. Quintessential Cookies in Northport has created an array of goodies including a special “Wedding Cake Pop”. “Cake pops are the perfect favor,” explains Jesse Gerlitz of the Northport shop. The Sugar Boutique in Oceanside also makes customizable cake pops including a bride and groom-styled cake pop treat!

Healthy Wedding Food

An extravagant spread of food at your wedding reception doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice your waistline or your health. “Vegetarian dishes used to be served as an option, but now it’s almost mandatory,” says Andrea Correale of Elegant Affairs & Caterers in Glen Cove. “People are more health-conscious and they want to carry it through on their big day.” Instead of empty calories, fat and carbohydrates, opt for chilled shrimp cocktail or seared ahi tuna on a cool cucumber. Go for the red wine instead of the sugary white. Instead of Caesar salad with mashed potatoes and an entrée filled with saturated fats, go for a healthy meal consisting of fish or chicken served with fresh, steamed or grilled local vegetables. Yum! milieuli.com

Aruba

Destination Destination weddings have become increasingly popular as more couples are searching for a unique hotel in a more intimate location. The Caribbean is one of the most popular spots for weddings but with so many different islands and hotels, choosing one can be difficult. Another choice that offers sunny days, gorgeous beaches and cool breezes is Aruba. “More times than not the weather is absolutely perfect in Aruba,” said Guy Gemore of Player’s Choice Tours, specializing in Aruba travel. The Bucuti & Tara Beach Resort has become a popular hotel with brides and grooms. “Couples who come to Bucuti are seeking an intimate ceremony in a serene and naturally beautiful setting. As Aruba’s only boutique beach resort that caters exclusively to adults, that is exactly what we are able to provide,” says the resort’s certified wedding planner Nashette Wouters. “Whether there

are two guests or fifty each wedding is designed to reflect the style and personality of the couple, and since we only host one wedding on any given day we are able to provide the level of attention and detail necessary to create an unforgettable event.” If couples are looking for a larger resort to host a wedding, both the Radisson Aruba and the Hyatt Regency Aruba are excellent choices. “Their grounds are definitely the nicest of the larger hotels on the island,” said Gemore. “My advice would be to book your reservations early because they fill up quickly, and airfare will get more expensive if you wait too long.” If a couple doesn’t have their own wedding planner, the hotels in Aruba will often provide you with your own. The friendly people, great restaurants, and guaranteed great weather make Aruba a popular alternative for a destination wedding.
