Politics and Revolution in Co. Leitrim from 1916-1921 Talk by Padraig McGarty The Bush Hotel, â‚Ź5 The 1916-1921 period is one of the most transformative in Irish history. The talk will trace the changing political environment in Co Leitrim in the period that witnessed the demise of the Irish Parliamentary Party and the rise of Sinn Fein. The War of Independence from 1919-1921 in the county will be discussed which featured police boycott, a campaign of civil disobedience and political violence that culminated in the Truce in July 1921. Padraig McGarty is a native of Mohill. He graduated with a BA and MA from University College Dublin where he studied history, politics and economics. He holds an MBS from the Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School. Currently, he is studying for his doctorate at Dublin City University. He resides in Co.Kerry and is a Senior Lecturer at the Institute of Saturday Technology Tralee. 16th July 2.30pm
