Aug 9-12

AUGUST 9-12

HAND TO GOD AUGUST 3-26

Aug 3-26

WATERTOWER THEATRE | This puppet show is not for kids — especially because the story’s star hand puppet is a foul-mouthed, potentially possessed being! “Hand to God” is a unique story about a young man named Jason who wants to avoid temptations by following his faith, but the puppet he gets for his church’s puppet show encourages everyone to give into their desires. This funny, thought provoking play is billed as a “blasphemous Broadway hit,” and you won’t be able to turn away. ZIMMERER KUBOTA PBR CHALLENGE AUGUST 4 ALLEN EVENT CENTER | The toughest sport on dirt is coming to the Allen Event Center this month. Break out your cowboy hat and boots and come watch more than 40 of the world’s top bull riders and bucking bulls in the heart-pounding Zimmerer Kubota PBR Challenge. This premier bull-riding event is part of the larger Touring Pro Division for the group, so now’s your chance to see them – and the action – up close in person.

AMERICAN AIRLINES CENTER | Have you ever wished you could see Thor, Captain America, Spider-Man, Iron Man, the Hulk and the Guardians of the Galaxy in real life? Now you can as these and other Marvel characters face off in an epic battle against Loki in the action-packed “Marvel Universe Live!” at American Airlines Center this month! Audiences will be up close to more than 25 Marvel characters who swing, smash, fly and work together to defeat evil. If you didn’t already believe in superheroes, you will after seeing this show complete with aerialists, shooting webs, levitation and other out-of-this-world superpowers! LEAKYCON AUGUST 10-12 DALLAS | Consider this your official Hogwarts letter: You’re invited to the largest Harry Potter fan convention in the world, taking place this month in Dallas! Griffindors, Slytherins, Ravenclaws and Hufflepuffs can join thousands of wizard-world fans who come together to celebrate both the Harry Potter and the Fantastic Beasts series, complete with actors, authors, designers, musicians and more. Meet Stanislav Yanevski who played Victor Krum and Chris Rankin who played Percy Weasley among others, dress up in your house colors or robes, play Quidditch, debate over your favorite fan theories, and shop for one-of-a-kind memorabilia. Leave the Muggles at home and experience the magical world of “The Boy Who Lived!”

MELON DASH AUGUST 4

MIRANDA LAMBERT AND LITTLE BIG TOWN

MCKINNEY | A sweet, juicy watermelon is waiting to greet you at the finish line of the Melon Dash, a 5k and Fun Run in McKinney. After working up an appetite in the hot sun, you can enjoy your watermelon (and other refreshments) with a cool towel wrapped around your neck as you explore the sponsors’ village and listen to live music. All participants will also receive a green-and-pink melon shirt to commemorate the occasion — and your love for this summer fruit. And the sweetest part? Proceeds from the event will benefit Animal Rescue Crusaders of Texas, an organization that rescues abandoned, homeless and neglected animals!
