New England No Time Racin

TOM McCARTHY On the 12th day of September, 2020, drag racing promoter Mikel Miranda of Boston Massachusetts managed to pull off one of the most significant regional drag racing events of the year by running his New England No-Time series race at New England Dragway, thrilling the fans with great wheels-up action, much to the delight of all in attendance, racers and fans alike.

With radial tire racing action in the classes of Ez Street, Extreme Street, NT 275/28, NT 235/25, and NT Big Tire, the No-Time (NT) racers took to the track that Saturday morning with gusto. It’s important to note here that because this is NT racing, the scoreboards are turned off and no elapsed times or MPH numbers are visible. This is heads up racing, first one to the 1/8th mile finish line wins.

So for the spectators, the interest and thrills are delivered by aggressive burnouts and wheel standing hard launches. While most of the cars just hook, hoist the tires and go, some like Peter Mandile in the EZ Street class, stood their cars up literally on the rear bumper.

cing: Grudgement Day 2020 the fans are not privy to the performance numbers. However each racer still receives his or her time slip and they are halved, so a racer can view their individual performance incremental numbers, but not their opponent’s numbers. This way racers can tune their cars as any drag racer would. This is also very significant as they can read the track with great accuracy.

At the Grudgement Day 2020 event, no fewer than 15 racing entrants reported in open exchange on social media that they ran new personal best numbers at this event. Considering there were 31 entrants in the five classes, fully 50% of the racers ran some of their best numbers ever. The big thanks here goes to New England Dragway staff and track prep specialist Andrew DeMarco of DeMarco Brothers racing.

Mr. DeMarco, who is a radial drag tire notable on the national level, has been involved with advanced track prep for radial tire racing for some time now and his hard work, hand-in-hand with the entire New England Dragway staff really paid off for the racers on Grudgement Day. This race was the second such one scheduled for this season, but the first one, which was slated for early June, 2020, was scuttled by the COVID-19 pandemic. Next year in 2021, Mikel hopes to host at least two more events, if not more, but it is confirmed that NE N/T will definitely be back racing at NED in 2021.

Rainelle, WV is the home of Curtis Cox’s 1969 Dodge Charger “General Lee”. A perfect car to continue our tv car show theme as well as an appropriate color for Halloween and October. Always a fan of Dukes of Hazzard, Curtis has watched every episode multiple times over. He searched for a Charger to build into the famous Orange tv car with the confederate flag on top and “01” on the welded doors.

Bought in 2003 as a grey primer machine, the classic Dodge was transported from Lexington, Kentucky and brought back to Rainelle for its rebuild.

The 318 engine was removed and swapped with a big block 440 mated to a 727 automatic transmission. Five long years were needed to replace all floors, trunk, quarter panels, and valances. After the bodywork was completed, the famous Hugger Orange paint, Decals, and Confederate flag on the roof were applied. Robert Newman did all the body work and pain. Engine and Transmission work was

Test Ride the New LiveWire All Electric H-D Motorcycle at Russ’ Ocean State Harley-Davidson ™

When asked about LiveWire™ industry analysts are often surprised that Harley-Davidson was the first major manufacturer to produce an all-electric street bike. As a company, Harley-Davidson was once known around the world for its innovation and racing prowess. In recent years however, the company had settled on its niche of producing heavyweight street motorcycles. LiveWire™ changes all of that. As part of Harley-Davidson’s “More Roads to Harley-Davidson” philosophy the company intends to roll out more electric vehicles and a new line of liquid cooled middle weight motorcycles including the highly anticipated “Pan America”, an adventure touring motorcycle in the near futue.

LiveWire™ is a high-performance electric street bike. It boasts 105 HP with 86 ft-lb of instantaneous torque. The bike will do 0-60 MPH in 3 seconds.

The bike is powered by the H-D Revelation permanent magnet motor that produces 100% of its rated torque.

There is no clutch on this motorcycle. Just twist and go. There is no transmission but there is a gearset which turns the motor output shaft 90 degrees to align it with the drivetrain. The landing surfaces on the gears are machined to create a jet engine sound that becomes more audible with speed.

LiveWire™ contains a RESS (Rechargeable Energy Storage System). When the motorcycle is coasting off-throttle the motor becomes a generator and puts charge back into the RESS. This creates an engine braking effect and conserves energy while boosting performance. Set properly, a rider can tackle technical mountain roads and curves with minimal braking.

The motorcycle has a cellular connection which allows the owner to monitor charging status, range, ride mode, ride stats, and enable stolen vehicle tracking.

LiveWire™ comes with a Level 1 charger which stores neatly under the seat. A Level 1 charger can be plugged into a standard wall outlet and into the bike at the “gas cap” charging port. A Level 1 charger will charge the motorcycle in about 11 hours. LiveWire™ boasts Level 3 (DC Fast Charging) capability. The motorcycle will fast-charge in about 40 minutes.

LiveWire™ has other features that put it in the “Superbike” category. The front fork is an inverted SHOWA Separate Function Front Fork Big Piston unit. The rear shock is a SHOWA Balanced Free Rear Cushion-Lite Mono shock. LiveWire™ also features dual disc four piston monoblock calipers with 300mm diameter rotors.

The advanced traction control system can be de-activated with the push of a button to allow burnouts if a user so desires.

The rider can select the appropriate ride mode which are variants of 4 adjustable levels of Power, Regeneration, Throttle Response, and Traction Control.

Maintenance on the LiveWire™ is simple. There is no engine oil, spark plugs, or air filters. Belt tension needs to be checked and a small amount of lubricant in the gear case needs to be changed. The RESS unit is considered to be “service free for the life of the vehicle” and has a 5-year warranty.

So: Is it fun?

Sitting on the bike was a trip. On LiveWire™ the footpeg position is more like a traditional sport bike, comfortable and easy to put your feet on just by bending your knees. When you “start” the LiveWire™ the motorcycle communicates that it is “on” with a “haptic heartbeat” which can be felt in the grips and the seat. You can’t “rev” LiveWire™. When you roll on the throttle the bike moves. First-time LiveWire™ riders at OSHD start out in “Rain Mode” until they are used to the controls.

This bike is responsive, nimble and itching to go fast. Once up to speed the bike makes a noise that sounds almost like a jet engine. We pulled off in an empty parking lot and did some slow maneuvers. We put the bike in Sport mode and for the next 20 minutes weaved around town and jetted down the highway. The bike felt amazingly stable and powerful. I would have to say the bike handled as good as any I have ever ridden.. It’s like riding on a carpet of velvet. I have never experienced anything like it.

So, in conclusion, the bike is super fun. Neil at OSHD says it’s “the most fun bike I’ve ever ridden”. Mark Trimmer, one of Ocean State’s customers beamed that it “handles like my Ducati Monster but it’s way more smooth”.

UNDERCOATING FOR A USED VEHICLE

By JOSHUA KLEIN Last month we talked about your options to provide rust and rot protection to a brand-new vehicle with currently no rust. But what if you have a vehicle that has seen some winters? Even one winter can start the corrosion process. Or you have a vehicle with a good deal of surface rust but the steel itself is still solid and usable. This month I will share options with you and what to look for in an undercoating. I will give the pros and cons of each option so that you can decide for yourself what best suits your needs.

First option, Paints - There are many paints on the market that are directed for painting over rust. And it’s true you can paint over rust. They provide a nice hard coating and make your frame and underbody look really nice.

They dry to a nice semi-gloss or matte finish and will look good for some time. They can be brushed or sprayed on and can be a great DIY project.

The problem is that they harden. While this is great for aesthetics it does little to treat the rust issue. It traps the rust allowing it to continue growing under the paint unnoticed until it fails, usually from the steel breaking apart.

Another fault of paints is it doesn’t creep. It lands where you spray it and dries. This poses an issue for internal areas. Are you sure you got complete coverage?

Next Option would be Sandblasting – To remove the rust, then paint. This is a great option, provided the sandblaster gets down to “White Metal”. This is 100% clean steel with no rust craters. A good primer and paint to follow and you will be good for many years. The issues with this method are that in order to do it correctly, it is very labor and time intensive. For this process to work 100% there can be no rust present after blasting. The only way to get this accomplished is disassembly of the entire vehicle. Since there are so many obstacles to get a clear path with the blaster without disassembly a lot of areas are missed. Then we have the issue of the internal areas where it is difficult or impossible to blast. Any rust left will eventually continue to eat away at the steel. Even if the outside is protected perfectly the other side of the steel is getting eaten away from rust and corrosion.

The third option is an NHOU OIL BASED Undercoating. This is a great alternative for vehicles with pre-existing rust. How does the Oil undercoating work? Since it never hardens, it continues to seep and creep into crevices,

providing a layer of protection. Also, since it creeps it will get into the tightest of spots where traditional paints can’t. The downfall of Oil Undercoating is that it will never dry. It will start to collect dust and thicken up over time.

Another negative of any treatment is that it requires reapplication. But Oil Undercoating is usually far less expensive than the other forms of undercoating. You will develop a Love / Hate relationship with your service technician. First, they will hate you because their hands will get a little dirtier than normal doing underbody service on your vehicle. But they will love the fact that the oil has soaked into the fasteners and they will come out with ease, saving lots of time and money drilling and tapping to remove broken bolts.

They will also appreciate the lack of rust falling in their eyes during service work!

Hopefully after reading this you have new insight into different ways to protect your vehicles from the harshness of winters chemicals. The salt brines used today can stay on the exterior underside of a car for a great deal of time (and in the internal cavities even longer), all the while doing damage and eating away at the steel making your vehicle unsafe.

seams, and internal areas thereby protecting from rust. It provides protection by penetrating into the rust and displacing the moisture and oxygen – the two things rust needs to grow. It will loosen the grip large rust has on the steel and it will fall away. Internal cavities usually collect dirt, dust and moisture. This creates rust, rust traps more moisture and dirt, and the process continues. We talked about how paints dry. Have you ever painted dirt?

By ROB MAY and MARK MAROUGI 1966 Chrysler Imperial and 1969 Dodge Charger are popular cars. These Green and Orange versions are famous tv/movie star vehicles owned by Mark Marougi of Bloomfield Hills Michigan. Mark owned many collector cars, and when he got bored, he would sell them. “I went through a lot of cars.”

“I was always into TV and Movie cars. I love George Barris Kustoms. What started it all for me was the car from the Munsters.” In 2005, Mark was able to meet George Barris.” I ended up buying the Green Hornet car from him.

Then I told him that I would like to have more of his cars. He didn’t know of any that were around that were reasonable, so he took me to Warner Bros.

I ended up buying a Dukes of Hazzard General Lee from them.“ After that, Mark went continued and bought, sold, and traded about 30 original screen used TV/Movie cars. “Just from the Dukes of Hazzard alone, I have 9 cars… the Boss Hogg car, the 1971 Road Runner, and seven General Lee’s. During that period, I also owned a Green Hornet car from the movie. I then found another George Barris Green Hornet car that I currently own.”

“At the time I found the second Barris Green Hornet car, I already owned two of them.” Mark could not pass it up because it was in an auction in Texas, and it was the only movie car there. “I thought maybe I could get a good deal on it, and I did end up getting it at a good price.“ In 2010 when Mark first had the car, it needed a lot of restoration. “This was the first car that was built after the original 2 TV cars. The car went through a few different shops, and finally I was able to get it completely restored and in standup condition.” The motor was pulled out and totally rebuilt.

The body was sanded down, and all the imperfections were corrected and repainted. Unlike the two TV cars, this car was painted in green pearl of essence. It was a green metal flake.

The Hornet was titled as a 1966, it is actually a 1964. The Green Hornet has a 413 push-button automatic. “There were years where I drove the car quite a bit. I have so many other cars that I probably only put 100 miles a year on this one. It’s not the easiest car to drive because it’s a big black limousine type of car. After all these years I became pretty good at driving it.” The most unique part of this car is it has two sunroofs. They open up and the front one is green. Also, on the windshield, it has Hornet eyes that are pinstriped right on the windshield.

This Hornet has been in many publications over the years such as Hot

Rod Magazine, TV guide, and the Barris hard cover book. They made a postcard of this car and a model kit. It was also in the Motorama Museum on Hollywood Boulevard for many years.

Mark has owned seven original General Lee ‘s. “The Dukes of Hazzard was one of my favorite shows when I was a kid.” My first General Lee was bought in 2005. After that, I became friends with lots of people all over the world and ended up buying and selling several other General Lee’s. The current car that I own is the #20 drifter car from the movie. It’s a stunt car that is the only four-speed car ever built for the Dukes of Hazzard.

It was used extensively for drifting in the movie along with the racing at the end against the Mustang. I sold all the other cars because I had been looking for this one and when I found it, I had to buy it at the Mecum auction.”

“I am going to keep it in all original condition as found. It has all the battle scars on it.

The value would be hurt if you were restored this car.” The car is fully caged. It has a four-speed, and it also has a drifter shifter. It is an original matching numbers 383 fourspeed. I have not done any mechanics to the car yet. I plan on making sure it’s safe and correctly wired-up, so everything works. I plan on driving this car around a lot.”

Same reason as the Green Hornet (owning many cars), Mark doesn’t drive this one all the time. People love the car, in fact, I think it’s gets the most attention from all my movie cars. The car drives great. Even though they beat the heck out of it, it still runs very well.”

This car has more documentation than I’ve ever seen from any movie car that I have ever owned. There is about 15 pages of paperwork. Everybody remembers this car drifting in the movie. It is one of the most famous General Lee‘s of all time.

I have been attending the weekly Frederickson Farms Car Show every Wednesday afternoon and evening for the past several weeks. It’s only one of the few car shows that were taking place throughout the entire cruisin’ season this year due to the Covid epidemic we are all dealing with right now and more than likely for the upcoming cold and flu season, this winter across the region and nationwide, as we are forced to spend most our time indoors instead of being outdoors in nicer weather conditions.

Dozens of area car shows and cruise nights never got started and those that did were ending quickly due to poor turnout and the inability to promote their own events at all of the other events that would normally be taking place across the region. Well, one area car show isn’t going out without a fight this year. Frederickson Farms intends on hosting these weekly Wednesday car shows until Columbus week and then finish out the season on Sundays until the end of October as long as the weather holds out until then.

Sunday car show times will be from 11 am until 2 pm through the end of the month. Cruisin’ Bruce Palmer is the DJ for this car show every week and you can hear the excitement in his voice when he announces over the loud speakers that this venue will continue well into the fall season. I can’t blame him. There was not very much to be excited about this cruisin’ season and we should get in as many weekly car shows as possible before parking our classic cars and trucks until next spring. The few car shows that were taking place have now ended for the year and that’s sad for all of us diehard car show enthusiasts everywhere.

As I headed to New England Dragway for the 6th year of the Steve Reis Memorial Shootout, there was no telling what was going to happen that day. 2020 had already been a whirlwind of cancelled events, low attendance, and a whole lot of uncertainty, and I honestly didn’t know what to expect. Well, all doubt was extinguished as the first round of qualifiers headed to the lanes for what turned out to be another excellent day to honor our Mustang buddy, Steve Reis.

Friends and family of Steve have always made this event very special and I appreciate the privilege of being able to celebrate his life with his most prized loved ones. Steve loved drag racing and the friendly jabbing that came along with it. So, of course there is always that comical banter floating around the pits. But once the tree drops, there’s no excuses, just get to the finish line and get that “Stevie Mug”. For the 2020 Steve Reis Memorial the following five racers were drinking from a coveted trophy mug that night…

o Shelby GT 350R

By K V So much has all ready been written about Fords revival of the iconic Shelby GT350 in 2015 that it would be almost impossible to shed light on anything new, but like every car out there each one has its own unique story.

The GT350 came to life as collaboration between Ford and the legendary Carroll Shelby in the 1960s. Together they built a name in racing that has stood the test of time. Ford knew they had to honor the Shelby racing heritage with the re-introduction of the GT350 name, and they did in a big way. The SVT engineers took the task of building this car very seriously, they pulled out all the stops with the GT350 and then went one step further and built a GT 350R to produce the absolute best handling Mustang ever.

gurus were building an engine like they had never built before. The new engine was built under the code name “Voodoo” because the engineers had some black magic tricks up their sleeve. The engine for the GT350 is based off the Coyote 5.0 design but shares only a few common parts. The Voodoo engine is 5.2 liters and was practically a clean

sheet build. Utilizing a new block, heads, cams and intake system would be impressive enough, but the piece that makes this engine special is the flat plane crankshaft. The use of a flat plane crankshaft gives this engine a unique sound unlike any other car on the road and broad power band to get this car through corners and around a race track in record time. The engine produces 526 HP at 7500 RPM and 429 Ft Lbs of torque at 4750 RPM. The redline is at 8250 RPM. Ford engineers did so much track testing and pushed the limits so far they had to pull back a little bit for a production offering to the public and that is the regular GT350. The GT 350R is basically street legal race car from the factory. The only way to tell them apart at a casual glance is the color of the emblems on the outside of the car.

The GT350 emblem has a silver background and the GT 350R has a red background.

The story of this car began in 2017 when it was purchased by its original owner in Kentucky. Matt tried to buy one of these cars 40| Motorhead Magazine - October 2020

locally, but dealers were commanding huge markups over sticker price because of the limited production numbers and allotments by the factory. So his search area expanded and when he found GT 350R number 399 for sale at a fair price he knew what he wanted to do. The car was over 1000 miles away and while the owner seemed very straightfor-

ward and easy to deal with over the phone buying any car sight unseen is a risky proposition.

There were a few other details to work out regarding transportation due to it now being dead in the middle of January 2018. Transport companies couldn’t guarantee shipping times or what type of carrier the car would be in or even when the car would be picked up. So Matt made plans to use his buddies enclosed trailer and his own F150 and the two of them would make the drive themselves. As long as the snow held off they figured everything would be fine.

The plan was now in place and they hit the highway on a Thursday morning around 6 AM. They drove straight thru only stopping for gas until they got to within a few miles of where the car was in Henderson Kentucky. GPS said the trip would take 16 hours, but with traffic and fuel stops it took about 18 hours. The car owner wasn’t available until 10 AM on Friday so the pair crashed in a hotel room for the rest of the night. Upon arrival at the car owners place of business the GT 350R was inspected and found to be just as described (a bonus of picking the car up in person versus having it dropped off at your door by a transport company). After some brief discussion the car was in the trailer and the boys were back on the road by noon on Friday. With car in the trailer the trip home took little longer and there was some snow to

deal with in the hills of Pennsylvania but all went well and the car was home by noon on Saturday.

Since taking possession of the car it has won multiple trophies at local car shows and is driven occasionally on nice days. One ride in this car and you can hear and feel all of that Voodoo Ford engineers built into this car.

ENTRIES POURING IN FOR TRI TRACK DEBUT AT STAFFORD MOTOR SPEEDWAY

By SOUZA MEDIA/KYLE SOUZA SEEKONK, Mass. -- With just under one month until the drop of the green flag on the Tri Track Open Modified Series season-finale, entries are starting to pour in for the debut at Stafford Motor Speedway. The Call Before You Dig Modified Classic 81, scheduled for October 24, is going to be one of the major Modified events of the entire 2020 season – with $10,000 up for grabs to the winner and a purse rising over $49,500.

Eric Goodale, who is a former winner at Stafford in Open Modified action, will also compete in the familiar No. 58, a car that is no stranger to success.

The Stafford flavor in general is quickly becoming one of the major parts of the race. Keith Rocco, a multiple-time SK Modified champion, current track

Multiple-time Tri Track champion Matt Hirschman, driving the No. 60, leads the list of Tri Track regulars who will look to defend their ground against Stafford regulars and invaders. Hirschman is joined by veteran Les Hinckley, Woody Pitkat, Matt Swanson, Richard Savary and Dylan Izzo as some of the early favorites.

Joey Cipriano, who is no stranger to Stafford, is returning to competition with car owner Ted Anderson behind the wheel of the No. 1 Superior Refinishing Modified. Brian Robie, Austin Kochenash, Ryan Doucette and Chris Pasteryak are also slated to attend.

Two former Tri Track winners are also coming to close the big check: Craig Lutz and Ron Silk. Lutz, who won the opener of the 2020 season at Monadnock Speedway, will compete for Russell Goodale in his familiar No. 46 Modified. Lutz is also no stranger to Stafford’s half-mile – he picked up his first career NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour win at the track last year. Silk, who recently went to Victory Lane in a Whelen Modified Tour race at Stafford, is 44| Motorhead Magazine - October 2020

By ROB MAY and CODY ROY We continue our TV theme and General Lee articles by introducing Rehoboth, Massachusetts’ Cody Roy, owner and president of the New England Dukes Fan Club: In 2019, the New England Dukes Fan Club was created to connect all Dukes of Hazzard fans together in one place online and in person. Cody decided to start this club because there were not as many clubs like there used to be in the early 2000’s.

CODY: I thought what the heck as I went off a limb with not much experience with clubs as a 20-year old with clubs. However, having experience with being a part of holding events and being in the Dukes community for many years was helpful. One of my larger achievements is being the balladeer of the Northeast Ohio Dukes Stunt Show since I was 19. A couple of fan groups, an official page, 3 events (one with Tom Wopat (Luke Duke)), forming on facebook - https://www.facebook.com/newenglanddukesfans and over 4,000 follows later, and here we are - still growing every day.

By ROB MAY and RENE GUZMAN Hear that Dixie horn playing in New Mexico? Las Cruces, NM is the home of Rene Guzman’s daily driver - 1969 Dodge Charger “General Lee”. A perfect car to continue our tv car show theme as well as an appropriate color for Halloween and October. Rene works for Enoch Mechanical fabricating air conditioning duct. His first car, bought in July of 1986, was a 1970 Dodge Charger. “Six months later in January 1986, I bought my 1969 Dodge Charger RT and made a General Lee. I sold the 1970 a year later.”

Rene has been a Dukes of Hazzard fan since day one in 1979. “My collection is over 400 pieces, and I was obsessed with having a General Lee to drive as a daily driver.” He has been driving it since 1987.

“I started studying General Lee when I was 11 years old, so I could build my dream car (no internet back then).” The 1969 Dodge Charger RT was sitting in a guy’s back yard.

“It was in really rough shape because it was used as a dirt track car. After my big brother haggled with him, we bought it for $715. I still remember my brother’s words ($715 dollars today is better than maybe $1000 dollars tomorrow).”

After purchasing the 1969 Charger, rebuilding the front suspension was in order.

exhaust was also on the list of things to do. “I knew someday life would get in the way from me driving General Lee, so I decided to restore it in reverse. My nextdoor neighbor, Jesse Rodriguez, painted lowriders and said he could paint it for me.

Using all the measurements I had made, we painted on all the numbers letters and flags.” General Lee was finished in May of 1987. Jesse Rodriguez did all the body work and paint for $800.

Initially the Charger had a 440 (not the original engine) when Rene bough it. “It worked and ran, but it was rough. From 1987 to 1996, I drove it and continued to work on the General. In 1996, I saved enough money to build a new 440. My friend and Mopar guru, Bruce Lane, built the 440 Magnum with Holley 700cfm and Hooker competition headers.” That engine has been in the car now running for 24 years. “I tune it up, change oil, and keep it up daily.” The transmission is the original 727 Torque flight from when Rene bought it in 1987. “I had it rebuilt in 2010 because I lost third gear. It runs like new now.” The rear end is a 8.75 posi with 3.91 gears. “My friend, Pete Mazza, has helped me over the years with keeping my 1969 Charger running. Pete Mazza restores old Mopars. Life got in the way, so I’m just now restoring the interior. Pete put in a new headliner and Continued Next Page

The General Lee has been Rene’s daily driver now for 33 Years. “Driving an old muscle car is very different from cars today. No extra thrill, just old fashion muscle.” No abs brakes, no air conditioning, and no air bags are on this Charger. “Driving a old 1969 Dodge Charger is so cool, but driving General Lee everyday goes to a whole new level of awesome.”

The most unique attribute of my car is that it is painted like a General Lee. I get so much attention when I drive. It has been that way since 1987.

People want to take pictures with it, and they want to talk Dukes of Hazzard. I think I might have one of the oldest General Lee replicas out there as I made it in 1987 when there was no internet to look things up or to order decals. I made it old school, studying General Lee from pictures because I only grew up with black and white tv. My General Lee is all paint no decals.”

Rene’s General Lee can be seen any day of the week. He drives it to work, church, store, and to breakfast on Sunday at his parent’s house. “It’s my dream to drive General Lee everyday til I die or can’t drive anymore.

By JIM WEICHERDING His name is Mike Shea. He resides in Spencer, Massachusetts. He owns this 1970 Chevy Monte Carlo he has dubbed, HIGHWAY TO HELL.

awards over the years and I know because me and Mike are good friends and I’ve been at the car shows where he won a lot of those awards and trophies over the past three decades. This is a beautiful Chevy by any standard and once you hear and see it you’ll know why that is case.

It packs a 396 engine under the hood with a 700 R transmission and a 9” Ford rear end.

Mike is a diehard car show enthusiast and showcases his rides all over New England and New York State every year.

Mike has owned this ride since purchasing it way back in 1982. The exterior color black is complemented with a blue interior. This badass Monte Carlo features a steel hood with a fiberglass hood scoop that reads; HIGHWAY TO HELL across both sides.

Mike also purchased his cruisin’ tires that are a perfect fit with a set of 255 / 70 / 15’s in the back and 225 / 70 / 15’s up front. The 9” Ford rear end has 370 gears that turn those back tires real fast when he plants his gas pedal on the floor mats.

This classic ride also features power brakes, power steering, front disc brakes with drum back brakes. The heavy metal sound coming from under this beast is thanks to dual Terminators with 2.5” into 3” custom exhaust pipes behind the headers that were installed in 1989.

The Importance of Forgiveness We all should practice forgiving others. Sixty-two percent of Americans say they need more forgiveness in their personal lives.

Forgiving others is necessary for spiritual growth and peace of mind. Think of it like this, your bad encounter of or with someone who has hurt you in some

way is now just a thought or feeling you carry around. Thoughts and feelings are important, but can be eliminated. Having resentment, anger, and hatred will lead to more aggravation and give you less power and less motivation. These thoughts and feelings should not be taking up space in your mind and eating at your day. By letting go of them we will experience more peace.

Depending on the situation, I sometimes have a hard time forgiving others. In the end, I do end up forgiving them. But I do not forget....ever. I sometimes do not continue to allow the person into my life. I may have forgiven them, but I no longer see a reason for them to be in my life. So it is “hi” and “bye” and that is basically about it. This has helped me keep my focus on the people around me that

do matter. I was doing the right thing all along and another person did more than one thing wrong. I look at it as I wouldn’t hurt somebody like that. He / she hurt me in whatever way. I would never do that to him / her. So why should I stay in contact with that person? I deserve better. So I move on whether it be alone or in some other new way.

Remember there is a whole world out there. People are too afraid of change. But life is constantly changing. There are ways to get around things and “get over” things / situations. Call me for an appointment and I can share more! I am still conducting free individual counseling.

Some Quick Tips to Forgive Someone ~ Move on to your next chapter or move on to something new. If you want a different end result, you have to make a change in your life whether it be big or small. ~ Turn to some higher power. Etch’s OUTLAW GTO is flat out fast but police officers have many vehicles and radios to attempt stopping him dead in his tracks. Etch is all alone and he has no idea where his pursuers are at any given moment. The stress and anxiety is hard to handle. Almost as hard as handling an eight hundred horsepower classic muscle car being chased by the law. OUTLAW is traveling at a high rate of speed still trying to elude law enforcement agencies that want him stopped and tossed behind bars. They also want to crush Etch’s classic muscle car and send a message to anyone else that might be thinking the same way Etch is thinking right now about the new laws and regulations that removed all of

our freedoms and rights to drive our vintage vehicles on America’s roadways. Police officers stopped on an overpass see the jet black GTO approaching from a distance of approximately one hundred yards away and approaching fast. Six police officers draw their revolvers and take aim at the Pontiac as it speeds towards their location perched above the highway on a cleared overpass. Etch can see them as he pushes the GTO to its limits and mats the gas pedal onto the floor mat. Shots ring out. Etch swerves his wanted muscle car from one side of the highway lanes to another attempting to dodge any bullets fired at him in an effort to get him to stop. Etch never thought that driving a classic car on

America’s roadways would lead to a death sentence but here he is fleeing for his life. The GTO swerves recklessly from one lane to another as bullets fly by on all sides.

Etch glances upward at the top rim of his windshield as he races under the overpass at a high rate of speed. The police officers run to the other side of the overpass and are now shooting at the GTO from behind it, instead of ahead of it. Etch continues to swerve from one lane to another on the open highway trying to avoid being hit by one of those bullets.

Hear that Dixie horn playing in Texas? Cleburne, TX is the home of Keith Montgomery’s 1969 Dodge Charger “General Lee”. A perfect car to continue our tv car show theme as well as an appropriate color for Halloween and October. Keith’s wife, Melinda, and children - Dustin and Levi were involved in the build of the General Lee. “We bought the 1969 Dodge Charger in 1992 for $550 from a guy who was the owner of a towing and impound lot in Arlington Texas. Someone left the Charger parked in an alley, it was impounded, and the owner never came to get it out.

The impound lot owner decided to keep it to restore it, but never got around to doing that other than having the engine rebuilt.” Selling due to moving, the previous owner made a deal that the only way he would sell would be for Keith to take 2 cars. LEE IN TX for $200. “A $750 package deal got the Charger home.”

Some work was started on it, but Keith had other projects, so the Charger was put in storage until 2007.

“My kids got their first experience of the Dukes of Hazzard when CMT started airing the episodes, and that also is when we found out about the Dukesfest events that Ben Jones, who played Cooter Davenport on the Dukes, and his wife Alma had started. We went to their event in 2007 at Nashville Tennessee. As we left that event, after seeing all the General Lee’s, we decided on our way home that we would build our Charger as a General Lee.” At home they started gathering up parts. “My wife, Melinda, was our parts department. I would give her a list, and she was all over the internet ordering parts.” In January 2008, they started on the car working nights and weekends. The Charger was completely disassembled, and a ground up build was performed.

The 1969 Dodge Charger has a 440 6-pack with 727 torqueflight and posi-track.

“When we were redoing the car about 4 years ago, I got acquainted with Tom Sarmento - who was the head mechanic on the Dukes of Hazzard. He provided me with what color to use and show correct decals. The push bar on front is made off the original jig made by A.J Thrasher that was used on the first 3 1/2 seasons. It is a hand torch cut and hand ground, so it is not perfect, but it is just like they were on the show.”

“We pulled the Dodge out of the shop on July 14, 2008. A couple weeks later it was in Atlanta Georgia at the Atlanta Speedway for the 2008 Dukesfest. There we started getting cast members autographs on the inside of the trunk lid. Also, we were allowed to make 4 laps on the Speedway track along with approximately 200 other General Lee’s.” Over the years, the General has been to several Dukes event’s in multiple states. “We went on the Hazzard run from Nashville to Gatlinburg Tennessee in 2016. At Holden, Louisiana, in April 2018, we participated in the first Bo’s Extravaganza put on by John Schneider, who played Bo Duke. At that event we were awarded Bo’s pick of the General Lee’s that were there.”

BUSINESS PROFILE

By JIM WEICHERDING Axelrod’s Fry Shack has been open for just over a year but it’s popularity speaks for itself. It was formerly known as Paco’s Tacos before the name change. The owner, Joe, said that he decided to name the new business after his son, AxelRod. The eatery has built a great fan base over the previous months with cool classic cars and trucks, muscle cars, rat rods and motorcyclists arriving on a regular basis to enjoy their freshly cooked food menu. Menu items are creatively named after automotive elements.

The eatery is an old fashioned and nostalgic diner that resembles something you would drive up to back in the 50’s and 60’s. The car hop atmosphere wins over customers that come from everywhere day and night.

It’s even open for drive up, take out and call in orders whether it is

on during the day, to greet you and take your orders. Everyone is friendly and courteous and smiles are the first thing on the menu when you place your food and drink orders.

I would recommend their crispy wings.

They are delicious!

Axelrod’s is also very supportive in the community and help charity causes whenever possible.

Watch for the Axelrod’s Halloween Themes and Costumes throughout the month of October and enjoy the fun when you go there to treat yourself to some great food now, and anytime during the year. Check out their menu, along with their phone number and address location on the back cover of this issue. The staff at Motorhead Magazine eats there often and so should you.

Picnic tables are set up outside for a safe distancing dining experience when the weather is nice. Fortunately, for us, Axelrod’s Fry Shack is also open year round just like the car hops used to be open back in those 50’s and 60’s. Classic car and truck, muscle car, rat rod and motorcycle owners are always welcome. Even if you drive up with your family in the everyday driver, that’s cool too.

A lot of customers love to get photos of their rides taken in front of the establishment during the cruisin’ season. One of their handmade sauces is Axel Grease Burger Sauce. Tastes great on their burgers! You could also combine that burger with their Rat Rod Cheese Fries. Now that’s a great combo! They have a great Kids Menu that includes a dozen Lug Nuts with Cheese and they have a Kids Meal special that includes 2 Sliders that kids cannot get enough of when eating at Axelrod’s.
