Now for most of us, that would be enough... but not for Joe. He also has a 2017 Camaro 2SS that he has added a Borla Attack exhaust with carbon fiber tips and he has put new wheels on the car.

what he has achieved in life. He comes from a modest upbringing where his mother worked hard to keep him on the straight and narrow and it has paid off.

He has excelled as a lawyer, a husband and a dedicated father. Many things are possible when you put in the time in the lab and think of exciting and new things to do to your vehicles. But when you’re torn between off-roading and going fast, the Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde fight

for dominance. For now, Joe keeps it balanced and makes the different personalities happy.

By XANDER YESSAIAN Hey there folks, it’s your little buddy Xander here, out and about, checking the car shows, cruise nights, and drag strips for the latest, greatest, and of course the FASTEST cars on the street and strip and I’ll be honest with you, all this hard work definitely sparks up an appetite. And at 19 months old, I’ve been indulging in what my parents call “big people food”, mostly delicious home cooked meals but on those occasions when Mama needs a break, it’s Wicked Cheesy Pizza for the WIN!!!

First and foremost, let me back it up a bit, because there’s some really great history between Wicked Cheesy, my parents, and your little pal Xander. Long before my Dad even met my Mom, he was a HUGE fan of the place and always enjoyed the fact that most of the menu is playfully named after Boston sports icons. Then along came my Mom who eventually moved in and she also became a big fan of the best pizza in Tewksbury, MA (and other surrounding communities). But the highlight of the story came just days before I was born when my Mom had a doctor’s appointment and the doctor told her to get home, get some stuff packed, and get back to the hospital pronto because she was about to have the most brilliant and talented baby boy imaginable. After flying around the house in a whirlwind of nerves and excitement my parents were out the door and decided to grab a quick bite to eat on their way to the hospital. This is when our friends at Wicked Cheesy stepped in and showed how truly appreciative they are of all their customers and friends.

When my parents arrived at Wicked Cheesy that morning they were in such frenzy that they had no idea the place wasn’t opening for another hour and a half. Luckily a few members of the staff were already there, prepping for the day.

NEW ENGLAND NATIONALS TOM McCARTHY The Mickey Thompson Tires Top Fuel Harleys invaded New England Dragway on the weekend of July 6/7/8, 2018 with the eighth race of a ten race series held within the NHRA Mello Yello events. All of the pre-entries into the New England Nationals were in the pits, set up, ready to race by Thursday afternoon. Jay Turner, Rickey House, Doug Vancil, Beau Layne, Peter Geiss, Chris Streeter, Mike Scott, Billy Jack, Tii Tharpe, Tracy Kile and Bobby Malloy, eleven of the best TFH nitro racers.

On Friday the Q-1 qualifying session began, with Peter Giess leading things off with a solo pass.

The quickest run of the day on Friday was a 6.318 elapsed time, coupled with a 214.95 MPH charge

by Bobby Malloy of Glen Mills, PA, good for the #1 spot on day one.

On Saturday the final qualifying for the New England Nationals began, with Tracey Kile, who came out with pipes blazing as the first bike in Q3, laying down a 6.70 pass which put him squarely into the #7 qualifying slot right away.

The next bike out was Mike Scott and he suffered his third consecutive N/T (no time) pass during qualifying. Things went wrong right at the hit of the throttle, his rear tire lit-up-in-smoke and that was all on his Q-3 effort. Unfortunately for Mike, Beau Layne his Q-4 effort was a repeat of Q-3, ending his weekend with a DNQ. Billy Jack then ran a valiant 7.33 at 209mph pass, but he also Did Not Qualify for this race.

As for the elite eight, the final qualifiers were: Doug Vancil (6.30, Bob Malloy (6.31), Jay Turner (6.32), Rickey House (6.36), Beau Layne (6.39), Tii Tharpe (6.44), Tracy Kile (6.66), and Peter Geiss (6.89).

On Sunday, elimination rounds began under bright blue, sunny Jay Turner skies, with a track temperature of 124 degrees/f. The first pair out was, the Ricky House

and Beau Layne match up. We had the classic cagey veteran and the rookie going at it. First off the line was Beau Layne with a .049 reaction to the green light and he was off like a shot. Sharkey responded with a .082 reaction time and pulled away quickly. Storming across the finish line first was Rickey House with a 6.28 to Beau Layne’s 7.21 elapsed time.

The next pair out were team mates Jay Turner and Tii Tharpe. They are the best of friends every day; but on the starting line, someone has to go down.

LS 2018 TOP FUEL HARLEY match up was the #1 qualifier (Vancil 6.30) taking on the #8 qualifier (Geiss) in classic underdog match up. Peter Geiss was first off the starting line with a .112 reaction time to the tree.

Doug Vancil responded with a .128 RT and the race was on.

At the big end of the race track where it counts most, Doug Vancil got there first with a 6.31 to The Thug’s 7.01, which ending Peter’s race weekend.

a .049 RT to Tii’s, .058 that put him almost a tenth in the hole, right at the start. Down track, Jay’s 6.35 @ 225 was more than Tii’s 6.47 elapsed time could cover.

In the Bobby Malloy Vs Tracy Kile pairing, it was two old veteran drag racers duking it out. Tracy had a best of 6.66 in qualifying and facing Bobby who posted a 6.31 right off the trailer – TK knew he had his hands full. Tracy got out first with a .054 reaction time and Bobby, knowing he had Tracy by a bunch, took it easy on the tree with a .101 RT. In the end, Tracy’s 6.62 was no match for Bobby’s 6.31 and that was all for Tracy Kile.

In the final pairing, the Doug Vancil Vs Peter Geiss

When the semi-final round match up unfolded, Ricky House and Doug Vancil went at it first. Sharkey was out for blood and he struck first getting off the line with a solid .056 light to Doug’s, .064 RT. His lead was short lived as Doug pulled steadily away with the quickest ET of the weekend so far, a stunning 6.26 pass at a thundering 226 MPH, that just ran away from the Cat Spot Racing bike of Rickey House who slowed after mid track.

The Jay Turner, Bobby Malloy match up next was vital for Jay Turner who was #3 in points coming into this race. Knowing this was a close round of racing, Bobby Malloy chopped the tree, but too close as he went red by .014, while Jay took off on his quickest pass of the weekend, clocking in at 6.263 @ 228.31 MPH, a new TFH track record for

In the final round, with all the marbles on the table, two of the best of the best faced off to settle this race. Doug Vancil fired first and they both did good smoky burnouts for the crowd. Jay got away first with an excellent .039 RT to Doug’s .046 light. As they thundered down track, Doug got the better of this match up by hitting the win stripe first with a 6.283 elapsed time to Jay’s 6.48, to secure the win.

The Mickey Thompson Tires Top Fuel Harley season will end September 3rd at the conclusion of the 2018, NHRA, US Nationals, in Indy.

Etch slowly exits the center meridian and drives back onto the highway headed in the other direction away from the rampaging big rigs and state troopers hoping to get back to a safe place and calm his nerves.

His GTO crawls to the next exit and Etch cannot believe his eyes when he drives to the blind spot behind the exit ramp tree line. A roadblock.

“Just great!” said, Etch. He kinda pauses for a few moments and tries to catch his breath. He almost got crushed by two massive speeding big rigs and that can definitely take anybody’s breath away from them.

He looks around and doesn’t see any live human beings anywhere. He steps out of the stopped GTO and stands up straight enough to get a better view of his surroundings. “Where are the cops?” He walks to the front of his car and can barely see the top of a Dunkin’ Donuts sign on the road at the end of this exit ramp. He walks up a little further not wanting to put too much space between his car and himself. He sees a group of police officers standing in the Dunkin’ Donuts parking lot

eating donuts and drinking coffees. He remembers how one police officer he knew referred donuts to be the equivalent of power circles.

“They aren’t donuts. They are power circles!” said, Etch under his breath as he walks back to his GTO. One of the police officers stops dead in his tracks and points at Etch standing near his GTO on the off ramp. The police officers see him and start running towards their parked police cars in the donut shop parking lot. Etch makes his way back to his waiting GTO, jumps into the driver seat, turns the ignition key and all hell breaks loose. Etch backs his classic muscle car onto the highway while the police cruisers are driving directly towards him the wrong way down the off ramp. Etch is shocked by the sight he sees and floor stomps the GTO gas pedal leaving a cloud of burnt tire smoke in his wake covering the confused police officers vehicles. OUTLAW launches down the highway reminding Etch about all of his passes at the area dragways over the years in New England and New York State. The GTO

is shakin’ and rattlin’ as Etch shifts up into another gear. The police cars are minus two vehicles now because of the billowing burnt tire smoke and misjudgment on how to steer when you can’t see two feet in front of you. Not easy by a long shot even if you are a trained driver. The other surviving police cars and their police officer drivers are still in pursuit of the OUTLAW GTO just the same. Etch is traveling at a high rate of speed down the open highway and that’s where OUTLAW feels at home other than at a dragway. He sees the flashing lights on the pursuing police cars and just smiles. He’s almost getting used to being a wanted man and the adrenaline is pushing him to limits he once thought were unreachable.

Pro Tip for New Car Buyers THINK AFTERMARKET

By BILL PRATT As the back-to-school commercials begin appearing on our television screens, it’s an early indicator that a new model year for all types of vehicles is just around the corner.

There are two common approaches that people use when buying a new vehicle and both of them typically involve a customer either paying more than necessary for the vehicle or getting less than they really wanted.

Because of the ways that manufacturers build vehicles, customers and dealers typically are steered into adding extra option packages in order to get the one or two options they really want. This approach works for dealers because it increases profits but it doesn’t work as well for the buyer.

A third approach is needed and, fortunately, it’s a fairly easy one to adopt with a little forethought. When I purchased my truck in 2012, the target I had in mind was the SuperDuty King Ranch. I liked the two-tone paint treatment in the Ford promotional materials and decided I wanted my new truck to look like that. The main obstacle was that I was on an XLT budget and buyers had to step up to at least the Lariat to get the paint treatment and upgraded wheels. That also meant ending up with leather upholstery and several other options I didn’t need and didn’t want to pay for.

Mini-Series By JIM WEICHERDING Randolph sits on a milk crate in his driveway washing his cherished 1957 Chevrolet. The sun beats down upon the back of his neck while he takes the water hose and sprays his head with a quick splash to try and keep cooled off in the dreaded heat. He glances up to see his pet German Shepards watching him from the front window of his moderate single family house located in a rural Rhode Island community. He doesn’t want to expose his pet dogs to the oppressive heat outside so he left them inside with the air conditioner running to keep them comfortable.

The heat bothers him, but he flashes back to his two tours of duty in the Vietnam War and thinks this is a lot better than what he endured during those years in the thick of the jungle dodging enemy bullets and bayonets. Randolph hears the sound of the neighborhood teens riding their skateboards in the street in front of his house.

They yell at him and call him names while he tries to clean his classic car in his own driveway.

He minds his own business but the neighborhood he has lived in since returning home from the war has dramatically changed over the years.

The elderly neighbors are passing away and family members are moving into their houses or they sell the house and split the funds between family members. Either way, the neighborhood has progressively changed and not for the better.

Noisy kids grow up to be annoying and dangerous teenagers while the families grow and expand. Drunken’ fights, teens in their loud import cars racing up and down the street and what was once a sleepy and peaceful place to live and raise your family is now another world.

Randolph ignores the teens and young adults taunts and slurs while continuing to clean his 1957 Chevrolet. He just wants to be left alone.

He stands up from his sitting position on the milk crate and stares at the teens riding their skateboards on the street in front of his house.

They have an entire street to do this activity but they always choose to do it in front of his house instead. The six-foot-two ex-marine walks over to the other side of his Chevrolet and sees the teens attempting to perform stunts near his fenced in yard and at the end of his driveway. He slowly walks to the end of his driveway and stands there holding his water hose in his hand.

“What’s your problem old man? We aren’t bothering you or your dump of a house and yard.” Randolph just continues to stand at the end of his driveway and never says a word. A couple imports vehicles roll up onto the scene and the skateboarders approach both vehicles with something cupped inside their hands. The teens exchange cash for drugs and Randolph watches the exchanges in disgust.

A couple of the vehicle passengers toss empty beer cans onto the street directly in front of Randolph’s driveway. “What are you gonna do about it pops?” Randolph takes his water hose and starts spraying the teens outside and inside the vehicle with the cold water. The driver doors on both vehicles open up quickly as the teens step out to confront Randolph still standing in his own driveway. The teens are yelling at him while he continues to stand there silently not saying a single word.

A moment later, everyone turns their attention back to the street. “Who owns these cars?” asked the police officer. He just drove upon the scene unnoticed. The teens stand there at the end of Randolph’s driveway in shock looking at the police officer. “Move them out of the middle of the street and do it right now!” The police officer watches as the teens get back into their vehicles and the skateboarders hold their position on the street.

I’m sure that plenty of you classic car and truck enthusiasts out there in the Cruisin’ Scene World have an appreciation for great food as well as cool classic vehicles. Fortunately, many of our area weekly and weekend Classic Auto Shows and Cruise Nights are hosted by these types of eatery establishments across New England.

I can list them but I’m only allowed so much space for each of my Feature Articles. We should thank each and every one of these establishment owners for accepting us at their diners, ice cream spots and restaurants on a regular basis.

There are some very hard working DJ’s out there that make all of this happen for us and that should not go unnoticed by any of us involved in this automotive hobby and lifestyle. My hat is off to all of them.

The same goes for the diner, restaurant and ice cream host sites owners that allow these events to go on week, after week, month, after month and year, after year.

I’ve run into quite a few owners that are all about the money and not about the venue.

Those diner and restaurant owners only care about generating revenue because of the hard work and dedication from these classic auto show and cruise night promoters and DJ’s. I understand these businesses need to earn an income via menu sales but to gauge everything around these earnings and not because of the community value is in my mind a very stupid way to run any business.

Not everything is about money. It’s about people and community. Money comes last. Everything else should come first. Unfortunately, not every business owner thinks that way. People are smart too. They know who cares about their families and communities and who doesn’t care.

Over time, that will become very evident to these diner and restaurant owners down the road when business becomes sluggish and eventually they have no business at all.

By MICHAEL IZZO My deep obsession with all things MOPAR started at a very young age. I can vividly remember my Dad telling me stories of a by gone era where guys would gather at certain locations all over Rhode Island and other New England hot spots to drag race. Sometimes at a track but more often right out in the street from the fire roads to the interstate. The stories also included legendary tales of stock / modified Roadrunners, GTX’s, Cuda’s, Chargers, Challengers, and of course Dusters. Guys would spend hours in their driveway getting their cars just right, if not just for a weekend date night but the eventual RT 295, RT. 6 the highway as well as a few other hot spots to race under the cover of darkness. It was not only about the cars but the great lifelong friendships that were formed.

Like any other car story from the late 60’s, early 70’s, the gas crisis hit, adult responsibility set in and just like that their muscle cars were gone.

It was not until my Sophomore year in High School that my father decided it was time to relive the glory days and purchased a numbers matching 1969 383 Roadrunner to restore. Once I heard the rumble of that 383 and saw the pure MOPAR design I was hooked on MOPAR for life.

Throughout high school and college I was always a car guy. I would hang out with friends that had similar interests and a love for any movie that featured cars rather than acting. After college, working at my first real job, I started saving a little bit of cash. I almost made an eBay purchase on a ‘71 GTO (what was I thinking). While it was a cool car it was no MOPAR. Then came marriage, children and family responsibilities. But always in the back of my mind was the drive to purchase, restore and build my own MOPAR. Fast forward to the year 2012 when I had mentioned to my cousin Jimmy that I would like to restore an A-body (preferably) Duster. It took Jimmy all of about 2 weeks and a road trip to the Adirondack Nationals to find a Numbers Match true 340 Duster in a barn in Hudson Falls, NY. Shortly after the phone call from Cousin Jim, Dad and I made the road trip to inspect the car and negotiate a deal with the seller. Then a 6 hour road trip with Jimmy, Dad and a car trailer, my Duster barn find was home.

After a few starts and stops I had the car totally apart, paint stripped and motor / body / transmission delivered to the respective experts.

The body work and paint was done by Performance Paint and Body (owner Tim Alicea). Russ Johnson and Sons had the task of machining and rebuilding the motor. Other than the major body work, engine rebuild and transmission work, this car is all home built in a 2 car garage.

Nothing fancy, just a lot of time, dedication and hard work. Often times the “build team” and I have to come up with creative ways to get things done without the aid of a lift and other fancy tools found in a high end restoration shop. This goes to show that the muscle car spirit of a by gone era is alive and well in 2018!

lunch breaks for Bacon Cheddar Burgers and Italian Grinders) As I’ve gone through the now 6 year restoration process, this car has reunited old friends and taught me a finer appreciation for MOPAR history and just how awesome these cars are. My two young daughters, Alexandra and Abby often join Dad and Grandpa in the garage and help tighten a bolt or 4. Well, most times my youngest, Abby, sits in her chair with a juice box and supervises the build process. Hopefully they are like their Dad and are absorbing an early love for all things MOPAR. Of course I would be remiss if I did not mention my amazing wife, Samantha, who has supported my car restoration dream for the past 6 years and puts up with me being in the garage for hours on end and long nights hunting for parts online!

seats, carpet, headliner, dash, all lines and the electrical harnesses.

The car also fires right up and sounds amazing! Should not be long until it’s finished, on the road and I’m ordering a fresh set of rear tires.

However, as I said prior, it continues to be so much more than a build process. So many new and old friends have stepped up and helped me achieve this dream with everything from storage, sandblasting help, paint tips, electrical restoration and mechanical assistance.

The most challenging task that we are trying to put off this winter is ultimately cleaning out the garage.

There are a ton of items to go through, from left over assorted tools, to containers of grease, to half empty bottles of fluids that are bringing us a sense of unnecessary clutter. What even the most vigilant person hasn’t considered is the actual probability of their products being “expired” or well past use.

When perusing through your stash of goods on top off your toolbox and shelves, you might want to keep one basic question in mind.

“How long have I had this?” One of the most prominent contaminants that will unfold right before your eyes which can be a dreadful harm to your vehicle is hydroscopic fluids. What does hydroscopic mean? Hydroscopic describes something that will readily take up and retain moisture.

A common hydroscopic fluid that would cause quite a conundrum is brake fluid.

When brake fluid absorbs moisture, the boiling point of the fluid becomes lower and will cause the fluid to compress less. Moisture within your braking system will give the fluid the ability to limit your braking power, and in turn rust out your brake lines and all necessary hardware and components. Previously featured this year in Motorheadâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s January and February issues, Richard and Jeanne Porvasnik from North Olmsted, OH joined Daniel and Paula Sugg from Evansville, IN to create a pair of 1985 Mercury Cougars at this fantastic event. Dan and Shawnee Boggs of Sandusky, Ohio rounded out the eighties (and twenty years of Cougar models) with their 1987 Cougar!

Chris Smith brought a pair of 1969 Cougars including a white with black Air Conditioning Repair vinyl top cat originally sold in Ventura, CA (very near the May family’s home) by Weber-Cooper Engine Repair & Service LM.

HISTORY OF THE MODEL A The Ford Model A (also colloquially called the A-Model Ford or the A, and A-bone among rodders and customizers),was the second huge success for the Ford Motor Company, after its predecessor, the Model T. First produced on October 20, 1927, but not sold until December 2, it replaced the venerable Model T, which had been produced for 18 years. This new Model A (a previous model had used the name in 1903–04) was designated a 1928 model and was available in four standard colors.

By February 4, 1929, one million Model As had been sold, and by July 24, two million.The range of body styles ran from the Tudor at US$500 (in grey, green, or black) to the Town Car with a dual cowl at US$1200. In March 1930, Model A sales hit three million, and there were nine body styles available.

Model A production ended in March 1932, after 4,858,644 had been made in all body styles. Its successor was the Model B, which featured an updated inline four-cylinder engine, as well as the Model 18, which introduced Ford’s new flathead (sidevalve) V8 engine.

Prices for the Model A ranged from US$385 for a roadster to US$1400 for the top-of-the-line Town Car. The engine was a water-cooled L-head inline four with a displacement of 201 cu in (3.3 l). This engine provided 40 hp (30 kW; 41 PS). Top speed was around 65 mph (105 km/h). The Model A had a 103.5 in (2,630 mm) wheelbase with a final drive ratio of 3.77:1. The transmission was a conventional unsynchronized three-speed sliding gear manual with a single speed reverse. The Model A had four-wheel mechanical drum brakes.

The Model A came in a wide variety of styles including a Coupe (Standard and Deluxe), Business Coupe, Sport Coupe, Roadster Coupe (Standard and Deluxe), Convertible Cabriolet, Convertible Sedan, Phaeton (Standard and Deluxe), Tudor Sedan (Standard and Deluxe), Town Car, Fordor (five-window standard, three-window deluxe), Victoria, Town Sedan, Station Wagon, Taxicab, Truck, and Commercial. The very rare Special Coupe started production around March 1928 and ended mid-1929.

The Model A was the first Ford to use the standard set of driver controls with conventional clutch and brake pedals, throttle, and gearshift. Previous Fords used controls that had become uncommon to drivers of other makes. The Model A’s fuel tank was situated in the cowl, between the engine compartment’s fire wall and the dash panel. It had a visual fuel gauge, and the fuel flowed to the carburetor by gravity. A rear-view mirror was optional. In cooler climates, owners could purchase an aftermarket cast iron unit to place over the exhaust manifold to provide heat to the cab. A small door provided adjustment of the amount of hot air entering the cab. The Model A was the first car to have safety glass in the windshield.

The Soviet company GAZ, which started as a joint venture between Ford and the Soviet Union, made a licensed version from 1932–1936. This served as the basis for the FAI and BA-20 armored cars which saw use as Soviet scout vehicles in the early stages of World War II. In addition to the United States, Ford made the Model A in

the DFM of forging did not prove practical. Eventually, Ford’s engineers persuaded him to relent, lest the Model A’s production cost force up its retail price too much.

The Model A was well represented in media of the era since it was one of the most common cars. Model kits remain available from hobby shops as stock cars or hot rods.

However, this equated to a British fiscal horsepower of 14.9 hp (11.1 kW; 15.1 PS)(compared to the 24 hp (18 kW; 24 PS) of the larger engine) and attracted a punitive annual car tax levy of £1 per fiscal hp in the UK. It therefore was expensive to own and too heavy and uneconomical to achieve volume sales, and so unable to compete in the newly developing mass market, while also too crude to compete as a luxury product. European manufactured Model As failed to achieve the sales success in Europe that would greet their smaller successor in England and Germany.

From the mid 1910s through the early 1920s, Ford dominated the automotive market with its Model T. However, during the mid-1920s, this dominance eroded as competitors, especially the various General Motors divisions, caught up with Ford’s mass production system and began to better Ford in some areas, especially by offering more powerful engines, new convenience features, or cosmetic customization. Also, features Henry Ford considered to be unnecessary, such as electric starters, were gradually shifting in the public’s perception from luxuries to essentials.

Several Model As have obtained particular fame.

The “Mean Green Machine”, a green and black 1931 Tudor Sedan, has been a staple of University of North Texas football games and special events since 1974, maintained by the spirit

organization Talons since the 1980s. The Ramblin’ Wreck, a 1930 Sport Coupe, is the official mascot of the student body at the Georgia Institute of Technology and appears at sporting events and student body functions. Ala Kart, a customized 1929 roadster pickup built by George Barris, won two straight “America’s Most Beautiful Roadster” awards at the Oakland Roadster Show before making numerous film and television appearances.

Between October 1992 and December 1994, Hector Quevedo, along with his son Hugo, drove a 1928 Model A 22,000 mi (35,406 km) from his home in Punta Arenas, Chile to Ford headquarters in Dearborn, Michigan. The car required minimal service, including a flat tire and transmission work in Nicaragua, and is now housed in the Henry Ford Museum.

Charlie Ryan’s song “Hot Rod Lincoln” featured a modified Model A. The song has been covered several times since its original release.

Ford’s sales force recognized the threat and advised Henry to respond to it. Initially he resisted, but the T’s sagging market share finally forced him to admit a replacement was needed.

When he finally agreed to begin development of this new model, he focused on the mechanical aspects and on what today is called design for manufacturability (DFM), which he had always strongly embraced and for which the Model T production system was famous. Although ultimately successful, the development of the Model A included many problems that had to be resolved. For example, the die stamping of parts from sheet steel, which the Ford company had led to new heights of development with the Model T production system, was something Henry had always been ambivalent about; it had brought success, but he felt that it was not the best choice for durability. ED YESSAIAN Just recently a memory popped up on the social media pages belonging to a handful of us. It was a flashback to what we called “Arm Drop racing at New England Dragway”. I remember that day like it was yesterday because I was supposed to be running Outlaw 10.50 but due to a power

outage it was cancelled, then thanks to a couple guys that were there running Test Session, we were able to run grudge style with just the drop of an arm. Those two guys were Danny Reis and

his brother Steve, who I had met once before and was frequently entertained by on social media.

Steve was the King of talking smack and stirring the pot before every race session and tragically he was taken from us way too soon. So it was

obviously fitting that in his memory, we would host an event at his favorite place on earth, the drag strip.

In previous years that we hosted Mustang vs F-Body it had a great turnout of friends, family, and fellow racers who came to enjoy the day while honoring Steve’s undying spirit and love of racing.

However, for the 2018 event, with the news of Englishtown’s track closing their doors, we decided to welcome even more competition by merging with one of the Englishtown eventsMustang vs Grand National to create the first ever STEVE REIS MEMORIAL MUSTANG vs F-BODY vs GRAND NATIONAL. The rules will be the same as previous years, mirroring Outlaw 10.50’s guidelines but welcoming all Grand National, T-Type, and Turbo Buick powered racers.

There will be five index classes contested on this day- 9.00, 10.00, 11.00, 12.00, and 13.00 second classes- Outlaw 10.50 rules apply/Pro-Tree For those that enjoy bracket racing there will also be the STEVE REIS Bracket Shootout- Outlaw 10.50 rules apply/ Sportsman Tree New for 2017 and returning this year will also be the Xander’s Choice Award for the coolest race car, presented by Motorhead Writer and Cruise Night celebrity Xander Yessaian Please reference www.nedragway.com for the current Racer’s handbook for all Outlaw 10.50 rules and vehicle technical guidelines. The other day not one child died after being left in a hot vehicle, but two kids under the age of four years old were left in a vehicle to die a horrible and slow death.

I’d like to take these moron adults and stuff them in an oven until their skin melted off their bones. One parent actually told police officers that she forgot her kid was in the car when she arrived home. Left that child to die in their own driveway.

A common misconception is that window tint is dark and night time driving is impossible when a car is tinted. The truth is that there are films of any darkness that suits your preferences. Tinting film is designed to reduce glare and not impede upon night time driving.

Before I talk about the benefits of tinting your vehicles windows, I would like to explain what Tint is and how window Film Works.

Tint is created when tinting film is bonded onto a piece of glass. Tinting film is usually made out of a piece of clear polyester film with a very thin and even layer of tinting agents such as dyes and/or metals deposited onto the film.

So the Question…. To Tint or Not to Tint?

It is a personal choice and IS permissible in the State of Rhode Island, if you stay within the legal requirements as defined under Rhode Island General Laws 31-23.3.

R.I.G.L. 31-23.3-3 defines the use of non-transparent or sunscreen material or window application on motor vehicles which has a total visible light transmittance of not less than seventy (70%)

Once tinting film is applied to a window, the characteristics of how visible light comes into the car changes. Normal auto glass without tint reflects around 5% of visible light (known as VLR%), absorbs another 5% (known as VLA%) and transmits 90% of visible light (known as VLT%) into the car.

Depending on the type and quality of tinting film applied to a window these percentages change dramatically. Some tints are more reflective and others absorb more light.

So as we approach the summer months there are many reasons to tint your vehicle. Such as staying cool, protecting against health concerns, safety reasons and privacy reasons, as well as preserving your investment in your car.

One of the reasons to tint your vehicle is to stay cool. Your car’s interior can be 60 % cooler during those hot summer days with proper tinting.

Another reason to tint your vehicle is to contribute to safer driving. Tinting reduces dangerous glare from the sun, snow, and other headlights, helping you drive safely.

Harmful UV rays and heat cause car upholstery to crack and fade. Car tint is sunscreen for your car.

Tinting can protect your skin. Harmful UV rays from the sun can cause skin cancer. Tinting your car can block 99% of these damaging rays.

Tinting your vehicles windows protects your privacy and contents within your car. What a burglar can’t see, he won’t steal.

One last benefit of tinting your windows is in the case of an auto accident, a tinted window can help shattered glass to hold together, protecting the occupants of the car.

The Vietnam War was in full stride in the 60’s and early 70’s and things were chaotic there and on our home front. The one thing that took everyone away from these tumultuous times was movies. Hollywood was releasing movies at a frantic pace back in these decades and the competition between movie studios was fierce.

There was a lot of detective and cop movies, science fiction movies, James Bond movies, horror movies and automotive movies released to attract audiences that back-in-day were playing at drive-in movies as

well as at cinemas across the USA all the time. The drive-ins were perfectly suited for these spectacular automotive movies because of the size of the movie screens and we actually enjoyed them inside, or near our own vehicles.

American Graffiti, Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry, Easy Rider, Two-Lane Blacktop, Vanishing Point, Death Race 2000, Smokey and the Bandit and Bullitt are just some of the movies in that era that attracted automotive enthusiasts to the big screens at drive-ins nationwide on a regular basis.

Bullitt wasn’t necessarily an automotive enthusiasts movie, because it was a detective movie starring Steve McQueen, but it did feature the Greatest Chase Scene in movies ever. Even the movie The Seven Ups was a detective movie but that also had one helluva chase scene with a Pontiac Ventura driven by our boy Roy from the movie JAWS. Blue Thunder was about a powerful helicopter with plenty of “Kill Capabilities” but that Corvette racing around the city streets was pretty cool too.

There are not a lot of automotive enthusiasts movies being produced anymore by comparison but it doesn’t mean the world wants to stop watching them. I know, we have The Fast and the Furious franchise, but that’s pretty much it for us Car Guys & Gals out here in the real world of cars

• Multi-layer rubber hose designed to withstand the corrosive properties of modern fuels • Primary Barrier Liner – initial layer offers high resistance to heat and aggressive fuels • Vapor Guard Barrier – Thermoplastic layer provides superior fuel isolation significantly reducing vapors from escaping through the hose • Reinforcement braid-aramid material – (EFI hose only) is used to provide the higher pressure rating that is required with fuel injection • Available in 5/16” and 3/8” sizes • Special retention bead retains hose under pressure while assuring hose liner is not damaged • Full line of Vapor Guard hose ends also available!
