COLLEGE GRADUATE APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM (CGAP)

If you are looking for an exciting hands-on career where you can earn a great living and have a life-long career path, then MIELKE’s College Graduate Apprenticeship Program (CGAP) may be right for you. CGAP offers college graduates an opportunity to pair their professional skills with industry-specific technical knowledge in the HVAC, Plumbing and Mechanical Piping industry. Successful candidates enjoy a fast track to supervisory or management roles; these roles include Field Supervisors, Estimators, Project Managers and Division Leaders.

CGAP requirements:

Ability to work 40-hour work week

Perform various field tasks including general laborer work, cutting, grinding, soldering, welding, and pipefitting

Attend training programs tailored to your interests and abilities

CGAP REQUIREMENTS

Candidates for the College Graduates Apprenticeship Program must have earned their undergraduate degree in either a 2 or 4 years accredited college in the engineering, management, or construction technology fields.

Previous construction field experience in not a prerequisite but would be helpful.

Successful applicants must be capable of performing manual labor including lifting heavy objects, climbing ladders and using heavy tools and equipment.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The 3-4 year program consists of providing field installation experience for individuals who may eventually be assigned to critical positions in the MIELKE organization such as Field Supervisors, Project Managers, Mechanical Designers, Estimators and Project Engineers. Specific training will be offered in various trade areas such as plumbing, welding, pipefitting and HVAC installation and service. Training programs will be tailored to each individual’s interests and abilities. CGAP employees will be required to work a normal 40-hour work week in the field. Formal training classroom time will be after work hours and non-compensable.

CGAP employees will perform various field tasks including general laborer work, cutting, grinding, soldering, welding, and pipefitting. The nature of the assigned work will progress with each individual’s demonstrated knowledge, understanding and

The apprentice shall be required to attend classes in subjects related to MIELKE fieldwork as part of their CGAP agreement. One hundred forty (140) hours per year is required while enrolled in the CGAP. These classes may be given during or outside the regular working hours, depending upon availability and attending the apprenticeship program can count towards this requirement. All time spent in such classes after regular working hours shall not be considered as hours of work. If, for any reason, classroom instruction is not available, the related training may be conducted by means of correspondence, home study, or MIELKE sponsored courses.

Instruction shall be coordinated as much as possible with the work on the job so that the apprentice and the employer will receive the maximum benefits from such instruction.

Failure on the part of the apprentice to fulfill their obligation as to the related training studies and / or attendance, or their failure to maintain passing grades therein, shall constitute adequate cause for cancellation of their CGAP agreement.

▪ Shadow large projects floating project manager for 1 day per month for 3 months

CURRICULUM CONTINUED

Year 2: First Six Months

Maintain 80% or better grade within all continuing education trade specific courses

1000 hours OJT

Introduction to estimation

▪ Shadow estimator for 1 day per month for 3 months

Introduction to project management

▪ Shadow in-office project manager for 1 day per month for 3 months

Bi-annual evaluation with MIELKE executive to discuss plan progress and performance

Year 2: Second Six Months

Maintain 80% or better grade within all continuing education trade specific courses

1000 hours OJT

Continuation of exposure to project management 1 day per month for 3 months with concentration of project supply procurement

Bi-annual evaluation with MIELKE executive to discuss plan progress and performance

Years 3 and 4

COMPENSATION

During the 4-year CGAP period, employees will be paid on an hourly basis per the rate schedule below:

Year 1 (2020 base) $21 00/hr

Year 2 $22.05/hr

Year 3 $23.15/hr

Year 4 $24.31/hr

Compensation will also include a full range of standard benefits offered to all employees including health insurance and paid time off.

PROGRAM MENTORS

Successful candidates will be assigned mentors who will coach and guide them through their CGAP experience. Mentors will schedule regular meetings with each CGAP employee to gauge their progress and growth. The primary responsibility of the mentor will be assuring the employee is receiving a well-rounded experience that will be meaningful and significant to their future career.

RESPONSIBILITIES

CGAP employees are always expected to conduct themselves in a professional manner The following list reflects the minimal responsibilities of each CGAP employee:

Arrive on time each day to the work location ready and able to carry out the duties assigned by field foremen and supervisors

Listen to and follow the directions given by immediate supervisor

Work safely and be cognizant of the health and welfare of others

Follow all company work and safety rules

Attend all assigned classroom training and maintain acceptable grades levels

Be respectful and courteous of others

Share in taking accountability for ensuring that meetings with executive sponsor and mentor are happening as mentioned above and, in addition with Human Resources to ensure appropriate training and shadowing are taking place per the plan outlined above.
