This Alumni Chapter was the most recent winner of the N. Webster Moore History Award. An award presented to an alumni member, and one to an undergraduate member.
Let’s take a look back in time at Tulsa (OK) Alumni The Webster dictionary defines history as “ a branch of knowledge that records and explains past events” When you speak of the Mighty Middle Western Province, it is hard to ignore the history of Tulsa Alumni. Tulsa Alumni was chartered May 23, 1931. That is over 90 years of Achievement all in the name of PHI NU PI. Just like the ten men who founded this grand fraternity, they too have ten chartering members. The first Polemarch Rufus Stout who birthed the idea of Starting Tulsa Alumni. The first Keeper of records and exchequer. S.E. Williams whose name graces the stadium of the historical Booker T. Washington High School B C Franklin has a park named in his honor that provides a safe space for kids still to this day. George Haliburton, Wilbur Moffiette, Tollie Moore, R.A. Goodwin, John Buford, and Laurel Wreath Awardee C Felton Gayles. These men came together with the help of one of our illustrious founders, Byron K Armstrong, to form The Tulsa Alumni.
Tulsa Alumni has been a pillar in North Tulsa setting the benchmark high. We consider ourselves “The Standard”. Tulsa has produced some of the best Ed Lacey won several state championships and had a park named in his honor. Robert I. Mayes, Charles Wesley Morgan Awadee, touched and changed the lives of thousands of children Brother Mayes started the Ebony Awareness bowl to educate children of our culture, and that program is still going strong for more than 25 years Larry McGee, Ioder Fisher, Verdel Schoats were all educators who left an impression of success on their students. Tulsa Alumni has a history of province leaders like Art Williams who served as Province Polemarch and won the Elder Watson Diggs award Robert Gray is a Charles Wesley Morgan recipient. Brother David Deville ,Charles Wesley Morgan Awardee, who has given his blood sweat and tears to ensure this grand fraternity continuously stood the test of time. During time of segregation Brother Milard House and Julius Pegues were front line ensuring Black students were provided the opportunity for a fair education
As we come into the now, Tulsa Alumni still shows and proves its admiration to the Middle Western Province. Bringing in several Chapter of the year awards and look to do so again in 2024. Hosting Middle western Province Councils over the years and look to do so again in the future. Our John Morrison serves as the Province Chief of staff currently. In his undergrad years Brother Morrison served as Junior Vice Polemarch while attending Wichita State University. We have John Baker who serves as Province Historian Rodney Garner is one of the first to join the Province Security detail Jerry Moore is a Province Chaplin and serves on the a/v team.
