A MESSAGE FROM THE PROVINCE POLEMARCH

Brothers,

I am pleased to share that we have just concluded the most successful C. Rodger Wilson Leadership Conference in the history of our esteemed Province. With over 350 registrants, we set a new record for attendance, underscoring the strength and engagement of our Brotherhood The St Louis Alumni Chapter led the way with an outstanding turnout of more than 140 Brothers and excelled in hosting a truly memorable leadership conference.

1952-2024

17 TH MIDDLE WESTERN PROVINCE POLEMARCH PIONEER EDUCATOR, COMMUNITY LEADER

A career educator to countless young minds, Elmer J. Crumbley entered Chapter Invisible, July 31, 2024. With family roots in Lafayette, LA., Crumbley was born August 25, 1952, to parents, George and Helen Crumbley. Following his father’s retirement from the military, the family moved to Omaha, NE., where 10 siblings were raised. During these formative years, Crumbley excelled academically graduating with honors from Omaha North High School in 1971.

Crumbley attended the University of NebraskaLincoln (UNL), where he was joined by his high school sweetheart and future wife, Velma Lee (Smith) Crumbley. At UNL, he excelled academically, consistently making the Dean’s List, and became the first African American inducted into the Innocents Society, a prestigious senior academic group chosen by the Chancellor.

After earning a master’s degree in education administration from UNL, Crumbley returned to education, teaching in Omaha Public Schools and eventually becoming the first principal of Skinner Magnet. He oversaw the construction of the school and developed an advanced curriculum focusing on math, technology, and the arts for what would become Nebraska’s largest and most innovative elementary school

Crumbley often spoke proudly of the construction workers, saying, “That realization would lead to a few extra nails or screws from the crews That building will be built to last forever!” He was instrumental in the naming of the school, ensuring it honored fellow Kappa Alpha Psi brother and educator Dr Eugene Skinner Skinner Magnet Center opened in 1996, with a mural of the Kappa Alpha Psi coat of arms in the gymnasium installed under Crumbley’s bold leadership without seeking district approval

For students and families in need, Crumbley often overlooked residential boundaries and behavioral records, simply accepting any student willing to give education a chance. He would ask, “Will you give education a try? It is my responsibility to properly educate you!”

“Brother Crumbley’s commitment to student success is legend in Omaha. There are children and now parents of children, encouraged, educated, and mentored by him. He adjusted curriculum to student learning styles. He delivered excellence and he expected in-kind effort from educators.”

– Victor Beanum, MWP Board of Director, Omaha Alumni Chapter Polemarch.
