2023-2024: A Year in Review

"THE

SUN ALWAYS SHINES IN MIDDLESEX COUNTY AND BEYOND"

Dear Valued Chamber Member:

2023-2024 was another great year for the Middlesex County Chamber of Commerce!

Thanks to the continued support of our great membership, we are so excited for the year ahead. I would like to give a special thanks to our Past Chairman Sean Hayes, who has continued to step up and lead our chamber through this past year. Sean has championed for this chamber, and for that I am very grateful.

I would also like to take a moment to thank my incredible staff at the chamber for their continued support and dedication to our members and this organization. This team works tirelessly throughout the year in support of our member businesses, community events and programs, and the betterment of the areas that we serve. I am so appreciative of each and every one of them.

We are so fortunate to be a dynamic business organization with over 1,985 members that represent every industry sector and businesses of all sizes, from large corporations to micro businesses and entrepreneurs. In addition to being an effective and dynamic business organization, the chamber strives to be a strong community organization, with a number of programs that support workforce development, youth development, substance abuse prevention, our veterans, and much more. We have done our best to make a difference once again this year, and I hope those efforts are being felt throughout the greater Middlesex County region and beyond.

My team and I look forward to continuing our work on behalf of the business community in our region on a number of fronts. We will continue to develop our grassroots divisions and committees to engage members with state and local officials and address issues of importance to their town or their industry sector, as well as host relevant meetings that feature important and helpful content for our members. We remain committed to the implementation of vital workforce development and educational training programs that are helping to develop the community as well as create and retain jobs and we will continue to support our vital sectors of tourism and manufacturing. We will continue outreach to non-member businesses and organizations, and invite them to come aboard. Finally, we will continue to be a resource to our members and a good partner to our fellow community stakeholders in every way we can.

The chamber will continue to be here for you, and remember, the sun always shines in Middlesex County and beyond!

Sincerely,

Stay connected with our Chamber

@ M d s x C h a m b e r

WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS

The Middlesex County Chamber of Commerce has continued to implement successful workforce development programs throughout the past year As a result of our great working relationships with Workforce Alliance, the Connecticut Department of Labor, the Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development, Community Renewal Team, and the City of Middletown, the chamber is able to serve as a bridge that connects job seekers to employers. A strong workforce is the key to a strong economy, and the chamber is proud of its workforce development initiatives. Some examples include:

The 2024 Middletown Summer Youth Employment Program ran from early July to late August, 2024. We are fortunate to have the capacity to place these youngsters into subsidized employment in a wide variety of professional fields for six weeks in the summer months, working 15 to 20 hours per week. This year, over 70 youngsters primarily from Middletown were placed into summer employment at around 40 businesses and organizations in Middletown, Portland, Cromwell and Middlefield It is critical that we have host worksites from a wide variety of industry sectors step up and provide the work and supervision necessary for this program. The chamber would like to thank the businesses and organizations in Greater Middletown that stepped up to serve as host worksites this summer. In addition to our host worksites, this program would of course not be possible without the support of our funders. Our 2024 team of funding partners is as follows: Workforce Alliance, the City of Middletown, Peach Pit Foundation, State of CT Judicial Branch, Jarvis Products Corporation, and the Youth Services Bureau of Middletown

THANKS FOR ANOTHER GREAT YEAR!

To the Middlesex Chamber Board of Directors and Membership,

It has been my honor to serve as Chairman of the Middlesex County Chamber of Commerce this past year.

Middlesex County has long been “where the sun always shines,” and nothing reflects that better than our leadership in which job growth this past year outpaced the state average.

Our hardworking divisions are our grassroots, boots-on-the-ground forces that

breathe life into our local communities. Your support of your local colleagues and elected officials keeps the Chamber vibrant and well grounded. Thank you to all of our Division Chairs for going above and beyond in support of our organization and members!

With over 30 committees and councils, the Chamber continue to press the issues that are important and relevant to our membership. As we look to grow our leadership and membership from our various groups, we will need everyone ’ s ideas, inputs and perspectives. Thank you to all of our Committee and Council Chairs!

Our Side Street to Main Street Programs, Workforce Development, Summer Youth Employment Program, and partnership with the CT Small Business Development Center drive our success in the small business sectors in our region. The enthusiasm and energy of our start up business owners will continue to inspire the community, their families and the Chamber.

I would like to thank the Board of Directors and the Executive Committee for your ongoing support of our Chamber and especially of me as your Chairman. It is your participation that has earned the Middlesex County Chamber of Commerce the distinction as the most successful Chamber of Commerce in the State and around the Country.

A special thank you goes to the staff of the Chamber. Our staff is beyond exceptional, and is the backbone of all the functions we offer to our members.
