CAESARS ENTERTAINMENT Atlantic City, NJ This past summer, the iconic Warner Theatre was restored to its former glory as Spiegelworld brought the only permanent live entertainment destination, The Hook, to Atlantic City at Caesars, featuring an international cast of comics, acrobats, and circus artists. The 400-seat venue also serves as an East Coast home for the Italian-American-Psychedelic Superfrico restaurant. Caesars’ three Atlantic City properties, which include Caesars, Harrah’s, and Tropicana, collectively offer numerous restaurants and nightlife experiences, plus ample meeting and event space, including at the 100,000-square foot Waterfront Conference Center at Harrah’s. Nobu, a distinctly unique brand recognized worldwide, debuted this spring at Caesars. Nobu Atlantic City is an iconic restaurant - the first-of-its-kind in the region. A Nobu Hotel within Caesars complements this signature dining experience. Guests can enjoy cocktails at the bar with sweeping ocean views, or watch chefs craft specialty dishes at the sushi bar. There is something to satisfy everyone’s palate at Gordon Ramsay Steak at Harrah’s, which features a modern take on the English pub that marries contemporary design with a striking restaurant that is perfect for groups both small and large.

GOLDEN NUGGET Atlantic City, NJ As the vice president of hotel sales who recently joined Golden Nugget Atlantic City, Jim Ziereis says that it immediately became apparent to him what a great property it is for groups. “Our emphasis now is both on short-term as well as long-term group needs. The short-term booking demand for groups looking to gather in Q4, combined with the request for holiday parties, has been very encouraging and dates are quickly filling up.”

Holiday parties can be customized at various venues throughout Golden Nugget and can include special overnight stay packages, as well.

“Focusing on the longer-term bookings in 2024,” he continues, “we are embracing our under-utilized and unique spaces, which will provide our groups with memorable experiences. For instance, on our fifth floor, we have an outdoor Event Lawn measuring 45,000-square feet with incredible views. It is a perfect outdoor setting for a large group banquet or for team building.” In addition, on the outdoor swimming pool deck, Golden Nugget features H2O Bar & Lounge with cabanas and suites. Located in the city’s Marina District, the property boasts additional indoor and outdoor spaces that feature views of the boats and yachts docked along the water.

The newly created Vista Suites feature expansive living space, private bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a spacious dining area ideal for entertaining. “The remodel spans all aspects of the experience, from the entrance to new accommodations, reflecting a contemporary and playful personality with nautical design elements inspired by Atlantic City’s Marina District,” notes Mark Stavitski, executive director of hotel sales for Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa.

Historic Venues & Destinations History is more than stories of wars and heroes, elections and conquests learned in school or in books. Its reach extends through generations. Connecting yesterday with today and influencing tomorrow, history is sometimes revered, always learned from, and provides a window into the past while helping to shape a changing world.

Sometimes history also can inspire, motivate, and unite. “Historic destinations set a different tone simply by being historic,” asserts Kelly Ronalds, director room sales and guest experience, Historic Hotel Bethlehem. “They bring a timeline that can be incorporated into a meeting, retreat or team building that traditional sites cannot. I also believe that historical sites and destinations are simply special – just by their history and the story that they can tell the attendees.” Historic Hotel Bethlehem celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2022. Under the direction of the CEO of Bethlehem Steel, the property was built utilizing the I-beam, which was revolutionary in the field of construction. The Chamber of Commerce at the time sold $50 shares to the community to build the hotel in the heart of Historic Moravian Bethlehem, PA, a Historic Landmark District. Most recently, the Moravian Church Settlement Bethlehem was part of a trans-national nomination for UNESCO World Heritage.

Historic Hotel Bethlehem was awarded the title of #1 Best Historic Hotel in the Nation by USA Today. Today, the hotel offers 125 guest rooms and suites, two award winning restaurants, and 10 meeting spaces on-site, including two ballrooms. “We recently opened a self-contained conference center one-block from the hotel that provides more privacy for groups,” notes Ronalds. Mid-AtlanticEvENtsMagazine 29

Private history tours of the hotel or history chats are available for those who want to immerse themselves in the story behind the hotel. “We even can put together a team building scavenger hunt where they have to piece together our timeline – or the timeline of our historic district – by going out and about to find the clues. This is fun, educational, and a great way to have guests find their way around town,” proclaims Ronalds. “Upon arrival, you begin to sense the value of a timetested resort that has hosted many events over hundreds of years,” observes John Hess, director of sales and marketing, Omni Homestead Resort in Hot Springs, VA. “When you realize that our forefathers made critical decisions that influenced the direction of a growing young nation, it adds a legitimacy to the importance of your meeting. We find that our groups return time and time again as they love the relaxed luxurious nature of a historic resort.” Hess adds that the Omni’s guests tend to put down their electronic devices and interact more with each other while on-site. “I find it to be the polar opposite of when you spend time in a large urban area where attendees are easily distracted,” says Hess. “Here, that energy is a more relaxing, reflective energy and it is very contagious. We hear from many clients that their attendees are very focused, pay attention, and 30 Novemberz December2023

leave here refreshed and ready to get back to work. There is a clear ROI on spending time with colleagues in this atmosphere, and we see it quite frequently with the groups we host.” Omni Homestead Resort offers over 40 amenities onsite, such as championship golf (two courses), an award-winning spa, an Equestrian Center, Shooting Club, multiple indoor and outdoor swimming pools, as well as many other activities on 2,300-acres. Being home to 76,000-square feet of dedicated meeting space and multiple outdoor venues helps guests to enjoy the favorable mountain weather, too. The resort’s Warm Springs Pools offer a truly unique spa experience. These natural spring-fed pools maintain a constant temperature of 98-degrees, and the property’s Gentlemen’s Bathhouse was the first spa structure in America. Guests travel from all over the world specifically to soak in these mineral rich springs. Multiple restaurants on-site range from grab-and-go to fine dining - and everything in between. Several bars and lounges feature local crafted cocktails or favorite wines. “Our skilled culinary team loves to create custom menus tailored to a group’s specific desires, and our sommelier can create a wine selection specifically curated for an event. “For many who visit historic destinations as part of conferences, meetings or retreats, history can be inspiring," Carl Whitehill, Vice President, Destination Gettysburg that many groups will keep afternoons free for their attendees so they can enjoy all the wonderful amenities of the resort,” adds Hess. History is ingrained in the resort’s DNA, so much so that groups incorporate it throughout their stay. Whether it is playing golf on the Old Course (longest continuous operating first tee in the nation), soaking in the historic Warm Springs Pools which date back to 1761, or riding horseback through the mountains, guests will find themselves enjoying the natural beauty and historic nature of Omni Homestead. “We offer a complimentary social hour every afternoon in the Great Hall, offering guests a special treat and an opportunity to network with others,” notes Hess. “Our daily historic tour also can be booked privately for groups. In addition, groups also may book private falconry experiences and interact with our trained birds of prey. There are so many options, the most difficult decision is finding enough time to experience them all.” These days, non-profit and corporate events need to provide an experience to maximize guest attendance. Invitees value their time, stresses Peter Loevy, president, Catering By Design.

“Historic venues provide a unique backdrop for our fabulous cuisine and event planning,” Loevy explains. “Each venue offers stunning architecture with its own story and purpose, often conveyed by docents. Guests are excited by the opportunity to visit a location they have heard about, but may have never had the chance to see before. Hosting an event at a Philadelphia historical landmark galvanizes mission and memory for years to come.” Catering By Design proudly partners with five exclusive venues, says Loevy, each with their own historical significance: ONE North Broad; Historical Society of Pennsylvania; College of Physicians of Philadelphia; James A. Michener Art Museum; and Bolingbroke Mansion. ONE North Broad is located within the Masonic Temple directly across the street from City Hall, which it actually predates, as exterior construction on the Freemasons’ Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania was completed in 1873. It took another 30 years to complete the interior. The intricate architecture throughout the Masonic Temple is seemingly never-ending. Beginning outside, the 34 Novemberz December2023

building’s façade has become iconic. Inside, archways, sweeping grand staircases, marble pillars and stainedglass windows provide a gorgeous setting and plenty of photo opportunities. There are seven grand halls throughout the venue, and each is based on a different theme of ancient architecture. The second-floor halls are connected by an impressive “Foyer Under The Stars,” which boasts a vaulted, illuminated ceiling, and is the perfect setting for a cocktail hour. On the first floor, The Grand Ballroom can host up to 250 guests for receptions. There are several unique grand halls and spaces from which to choose in this large historic venue. The Historical Society of Pennsylvania is known as Philadelphia’s Library of American History and is home to over 21-million documents. Located in Center City, this venue is a treasure chest hidden in plain sight. Events here can be transformed into a personalized experience for guests, as docents can pull historic documents from their enormous collection, which guests can view to learn about the history of the specific topic related to their event or organization.

The Reading Room provides a unique, stately setting, with bookshelves lining the walls surrounding curated displays. Dinner also may be served here, and its historic aesthetic welcomes corporate functions. Upstairs, the newly renovated Patterson Room can host up to 160 guests for seated dinners. The reception hall is equipped for lecture-style events, too. The College of Physicians of Philadelphia, the birthplace of American medicine, was founded in 1787, and is one of the oldest professional medical organizations in the country. Throughout its history, the college has provided a place for medical professionals and the public to learn about medicine as both a science and as an art. The Beaux Arts-style building that currently houses The College and The Mutter Museum was constructed in 1908. As soon as guests enter, they are greeted by the marble rotunda and grand staircase. Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania in Lancaster, PA Rush Medicinal Herb Garden, creates an idyllic environment for cocktail receptions. The garden is named for Benjamin Rush, who was a signer of the Declaration of Independence and colonial Philadelphia doctor who helped found The College of Physicians of Philadelphia. The herb garden is a private oasis in Center City, where guests can enjoy drinks and hors d'oeuvres outdoors while they stroll through 60 different herbs with historical, and sometimes contemporary, medicinal value. The grand staircase leads to two great halls. Ashhurst Hall, which features a floor-to-ceiling mahogany carved mantlepiece and grand clock, plus high ceiling windows that allow light to flood the room creating a fresh and open space. Mitchell Hall features a 30-foot rococo ceiling, large leaded glass windows, portrait-lined walls, and a period dais. Perhaps the grandest and most adaptable of the spaces, this room can be configured for seminars, lectures, and receptions. Adjoined to the Ashhurst Room, together they can accommodate large, multi-staged events with ease of flow between spaces. The Mutter Museum can be open for guests to explore, as well. This museum of medical history displays collections of anatomical specimens, models, and medical instruments in a 19th-century "cabinet museum" setting. The goal of the museum is to help visitors understand the mysteries and beauty of the human body and appreciate the history of diagnosis and treatment of disease. 36 Novemberz December2023

James A. Michener Art Museum is named for the Pulitzer Prize-winning author and is housed in the repurposed 1884 Bucks County Jail. Since opening in 1988, the museum has evolved from a modest facility with a locally derived mission to an accredited worldclass venue with a broad vision. Its world-class collection of Pennsylvania Impressionist paintings and special exhibitions showcase a wide range of historical and contemporary work that attracts art lovers from around the world to Doylestown, PA. The all-glass Edgar N. Putnam Event Pavilion was constructed in 2012 and acts as a jewel box for events within the historic stone walls of the former prison. In fact, the sophisticated design of the event pavilion has earned architects KieranTimberlake a gold medal in design excellence from AIA Philadelphia. The 2,500square foot space is ideal for lectures, musical performances, and receptions. The pavilion is flanked on both sides by sculpture gardens and a terrace. Fifteen-miles from where America declared its independence, Bolingbroke Mansion predates that event by half-a-century. The Spring House bears the inscription “1727” and the house’s original fieldstone, some of it still intact, was brought from Colonial gristmills along Gulph Creek. Much of the building remains preserved as it was originally, which lends a charm to this quaint Main Line venue. With a large lawn and covered porch, outdoor events here are exquisite.

The Lancaster Marriott at Penn Square and Lancaster County Convention Center has a remarkable history, which includes a preserved section of the Underground Railroad within the convention center. The Thaddeus Stevens & Lydia Hamilton Smith Center for History & Democracy is a historic site and former home and business of anti-slavery and pre-Civil War Congressman Thaddeus Stevens. Currently in development, the historic site will transition into a museum sharing the story of two remarkable Americans, while exploring the quest for freedom among enslaved African Americans and the pivotal place that Lancaster, PA and the surrounding region played in the operation of the Underground Railroad. The museum is projected to open in early 2025. In the meantime, visitors can view the preservation process behind glass in the lower level of the hotel. The Lancaster Marriott also is within the façade of the 110-year-old Watt & Shand Department Store building, which was at one time on the list of the National Register of Historic Places. Also located within the convention center is the William Montgomery House, dating back to 1804 and referred to by historians as one of Lancaster’s great Federal Period mansions. Across the street from the hotel is the Central Market – America’s oldest continuously operating public farmer’s market – full of local vendors, fresh produce, Pennsylvania Dutch specialties, and more. “The Lancaster Marriott and Lancaster County Convention Center are seamlessly integrated on-property, and perfectly situated in the heart of historic downtown Lancaster, so everything is right at your fingertips,” notes Hans Schreiber, director of sales and marketing, Lancaster County Convention Center and Lancaster Marriott at Penn Square. “The hotel also is home to two phenomenal dining destinations – Plough, which features a menu that simultaneously celebrates Lancaster’s rich cultural roots while embracing a new era of modernity; and the rooftop of all rooftops – open year-round – The Exchange, where you can take in the views of downtown and the beautiful surrounding countryside while sipping a delicious cocktail bundled up next to a roaring fire-top table and heaters.” 38 Novemberz December2023

The historic elements of the Lancaster Marriott and Convention Center are on-display throughout the property, so groups and meetings guests can observe the Thaddeus Stevens & Lydia Hamilton Smith Center or the William Montgomery House on their way to or inbetween meetings. Outside the property is historic downtown Lancaster, one of the oldest inland towns in America. Lancaster was incorporated in 1742 and played a significant role in the Revolution (it was even the Capital for one day when the Continental Congress fled Philadelphia), the Civil War, the Abolition Movement, and more. Lancaster also was home to President James Buchannan and visitors can still tour his home, Wheatland. “So, no matter what the reason for your stay – group event, business meeting, family getaway, or a vacation – history is all-around and easy to incorporate into your itinerary when visiting Lancaster,” declares Schreiber. Hotel West & Main opened in October 2022 in the historic Washington Fire Company station in Conshohocken, PA, a nearly 150-year-old building that was first incorporated in 1877 and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1975. The hotel pays homage to its historic roots as a firehouse in the design, concept, and décor throughout the property – including firehouse-inspired touches in the lobby, like the wall made of firehoses behind the front desk, the firehouse dog statue that greets guests upon arrival, the original firepole that is on display as guests make their way through the revolving door entry way, the framed historic photographs on display all throughout the property, and more. The restored firepole extending to every floor and the use of the original 16-foot windows and firefighters' lockers in the lobby and market area create a distinctive ambiance, and the two food & beverage outlets onproperty – 1874 Social and Hook and Ladder Skybar & Kitchen – have firehouse-themed names, touches of décor, and menu items that are all inspired by the property’s significant history.

"The historical elements of Hotel West & Main are allaround the second guests step through the front doors," notes Paul Apanavicius, general manager, Hotel West & Main. "From the moment they check-in, guests can see that this is not your typical corporate hotel with generic branding and design, but rather a hotel that feels authentic, local, and true to its roots." Groups can explore the property in self-guided tours and view the old firehouse mementos here, while the firehouse-inspired design serves as a great backdrop for group events, meetings, or gatherings. In addition, the hotel is a short drive from historic landmarks and attractions, including Independence Hall in Philadelphia and Valley Forge National Historic Park in King of Prussia. Choosing a historical destination allows groups to weave in unique elements from the destination’s past into the overall theme of the program. In Valley Forge, groups often have “General George Washington” himself welcome their attendees during opening sessions, incorporate team building in a unique way, and visit the many other historical sites, including some of the area’s restaurants or hotels. Valley Forge, PA is the site of the 1777-1778 winter encampment of the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War. It is here where General George Washington’s soldiers re-emerged as a unified and discipline group. “Groups can retrace the same steps that General George Washington and his team took to achieve their overall goals,” proclaims Scott Higgins, director of sales, Valley Forge Tourism and Convention Board. “This is a powerful element to include in any group’s itinerary, as leadership and team building have become key components of many meetings and conferences. Imagine standing in Washington’s headquarters, and envisioning the decisions that were made within the walls of the building. In Valley Forge, groups are able to learn from our history, and re-emerge themselves as a strong and more cohesive team.” Historical destinations are some of the country’s best classrooms, too, says Carl Whitehill, vice president, 40 Novemberz December2023

Destination Gettysburg. They are places where lessons of the past can be connected to modern day leadership or decision-making. “For many who visit historic destinations as part of conferences, meetings or retreats, history can be inspiring – especially in places such as Gettysburg where the epic battle that swept through a small community had world-wide implications,” notes Whitehall. “History is about people as much as it is about places, and meeting attendees can often feel a strong connection with those stories just by immersing themselves into the host destination.” Gettysburg was the site of the American Civil War’s largest battle in July 1863. Over the course of three days, Union and Confederate armies clashed on the farm fields surrounding this small Pennsylvania community, in addition to the streets and neighborhoods of Gettysburg. In the end, more than 51,000 soldiers were killed, wounded captured or missing, leaving this town – and the country – changed forever. Four months later, President Abraham Lincoln visited for a short 25hours and delivered remarks at the dedication of the national cemetery. That short speech, the Gettysburg Address, remains long remembered by generations around the world. Gettysburg’s vast battlefield – Gettysburg National Military Park – provides endless history, leadership lessons, and stories of tragedy and valor. “By bringing groups onto the nation’s most hallowed ground, attendees are often awe-struck at the strategy, the sacrifice, and the lasting effect on this land,” observes Whitehall. Throughout the town, museums and tours help groups to better understand the impact of war through engaging programs, interactive exhibits, and first-hand accounts from soldiers and townspeople about not only the three days of battle, but the months and years of scars that remained on this town and the country. “Historic destinations enable travelers to literally stand where history was made,” says Whitehall. “Places like Gettysburg aren’t just a place to learn, but places where you can reflect deeply on the lessons from those events and think about how they apply today.”

historic bed and breakfasts or boutique hotels to get the real feeling of living life like a classic Annapolitan.” “As our nation’s first peacetime capital, Annapolis was a political, cultural, and commercial mover and shaker of its day. Today, the historic roots of our colonial port city turned world-renowned recreational boating capital are visible at every turn. A host of tours puts you in touch with four centuries of history and architecture, including the oldest State House in continuous legislative use in the nation. It was here that George Washington resigned his commission as Commander in Chief of the Continental Army, and the Continental Congress ratified the Treaty of Paris, officially ending the Revolutionary War,” Fenton explains. A stroll along the brick-lined streets of Annapolis takes visitors past the homes of Maryland’s four signers of the Declaration of Independence. Called a “Museum without Walls,” Annapolis boasts more 18th-century brick buildings than any town of comparable size in the nation. Outside tours at the William Paca House and Garden and Historic London Town and Gardens will introduce visitors to the movers and shakers of colonial Annapolis. The Maryland State House, U.S. Naval Academy, Banneker-Douglass Museum, and other historic museums and attractions are other places to learn about local history. ture, more than 200 independent shops and restaurants, art studios, and historic museums and attractions,” says Carla Bascope-Hebble, vice president of sales, Visit Alexandria. “Hosting your retreat in a historical destination provides organizers with built-in talking points and offers an atmosphere that cannot be duplicated,” BascopeHebble adds. Alexandria’s history actually dates back thousands of years. From the first Native Americans to settle here to the bustling city it has become, the timeline of Alexandria’s history is filled with events that helped shape the nation. The actual town of Alexandria was founded in 1749 by Scottish merchants and was named after Scotsman John Alexander. Alexandria is known as the adopted hometown of America’s first president, George Washington. As a teenager, Washington surveyed the city. Later, he owned a townhouse here in Old Town, a replica of which can be found on Cameron Street. He also worshiped at Christ Church (tour the site and sit in his pew – number 60), and he frequented Gadsby’s Tavern. Alexandria has deep historical ties to African American History, as well. Alexandria's African American history includes a trafficked Black population dating to the 18th century, the Freedom House Museum honoring the lives and experiences of the enslaved and free Black people of Alexandria, and America's first SitDown Strike in the early days of the Civil Rights movement. “Alexandria’s vast history and attractions provide groups with creative and flexible options that can be easily incorporated into any itinerary,” notes BascopeHebble. “Groups looking to incorporate the history of the destination into the venue planning are encouraged to explore The Leadership Collection at Alexandria, an exclusive collection of three nationally recognized executive leadership and team building opportunities.” Tap into groundbreaking content, high-level facilitators, and one-of-a-kind venues with the George Washington

Full of History Lancaster's Pennsylvania Dutch (German) immigrants were the first Europeans to arrive in the area in 1709. This heritage includes the original and largest Amish settlement in the U.S., which began soon thereafter and is the focus of several present-day interpretive experiences. Incorporated in 1729, Lancaster City is one of the oldest inland cities in America and is home to the nation’s oldest continuously-operating farmers market (Lancaster Central Market) and oldest continuously-operating theater (Fulton Theatre). It even served as the U.S. Capital for one day (September 27, 1777), and as Pennsylvania's Capital from 1799-1812. Historical sites in the city include Wheatland Mansion (home of the 15th U.S. President James Buchanan), Historic Rock Ford (home of Edward Hand, Adjutant General to General George Washington), and the Demuth Museum (home to renowned modernist painter Charles Demuth). 44 Novemberz December2023

The African American Heritage Walking Tour in Lancaster City features 12 locations from the community’s history, spanning the Colonial era to the mid-20th century Civil Rights Movement. It highlights abolitionists, Underground Railroad agents, religious leaders, and entrepreneurs. Spread throughout the county, additional historic properties include: Landis Valley Village and Farm Museum; Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania; Ephrata Cloister; Strasburg Rail Road, America’s oldest continuously-operating railroad; the 1719 Museum (Hans Herr House and Native American Longhouse); Julius Sturgis Pretzel Bakery, the first commercial pretzel bakery in the U.S.; and Bube’s Brewery, the only 1800s “lager era” brewery complex still intact in the U.S. For meeting space with historical ties, the Lancaster County Convention Center and adjoining Lancaster Marriott at Penn Square seamlessly incorporate the 110-year-old Beaux Arts façade of the landmark former Watt & Shand department store – Lancaster City’s version of Macy’s, the area’s shopping jewel – and offer a combined 90,000-square feet of meeting space and 416 guest rooms. The stylish 63-room Lancaster Arts Hotel in Lancaster City, formerly a tobacco warehouse, is perfect for a board retreat. The 93-room Cork Factory Hotel, also in Lancaster City, is comprised of buildings that once housed the historic Armstrong Cork and Kerr Glass companies. The Inn at Leola Village – a AAA Four Diamond-rated property and formerly an Amish farmstead – in Leola has meeting and event space and 62 guest rooms. Amish Experience, Amish Farm & House, and Amish Village do a wonderful job of interpreting the Plain community and its customs. The main hall of the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania in Strasburg is a great event space, with its incredible backdrop of historic locomotives and vintage railroad cars. The grounds and buildings of Landis Valley Village and Farm Museum provide an authentic immersion in early Pennsylvania German life (1740-1940), with interactive demonstrations from tinsmiths, blacksmiths, and tavern keepers in period costume. "People enjoy immersive activities because they provide an array of benefits, including entertainment, engagement, social interaction, learning, emotional impact, and the opportunity for personal growth,” observes Erica Bloch, associate director of communications for Woodloch in the Pocono Mountains, PA. “These experiences allow individuals to step outside of their usual reality and engage with different aspects of themselves and the world around them." “One of the primary benefits of participating in immersive activities is that they provide an escape from everyday life and offer a form of entertainment,” Bloch continues. “They transport us to different worlds or narratives, allowing us to temporarily disconnect from routine and experience something new and exciting. These activities also provide social interaction, something that many people feel they are lacking these days, Bloch notes. These activities provide opportunities for individuals to bond with others, strengthen relationships, and build social skills. They also can promote a sense of belonging within a community of likeminded people. “The Lodge at Woodloch is dedicated to providing guests with a transformative and all-inclusive wellness experience,” asserts Bloch. “With luxurious accommodations, gourmet cuisine, and a wide variety of mind, body, and soul activities, The Lodge at Woodloch is a sanctuary for those seeking relaxation, rejuvenation, and personal growth.” Woodloch’s exceptional spa concierge team is dedicated to assisting guests in tailoring their stays to match their unique priorities, interests, and aspirations. For example, a guest seeking relaxation and rejuvenation may choose to indulge in a classic Swedish massage and participate in a variety of calming yoga and meditation classes. On the other hand, a guest with a focus on improving their fitness performance may opt for a deep tissue massage and engage in more intense classes like cycling, rowing, and high-intensity interval training. “Each guest's experience can be highly personalized while also allowing opportunities for shared activities and connections with others, enhancing their overall immersion in the retreat,” Bloch adds. Woodloch embraces a philosophy of personal awakening and provides an extensive selection of spa treatments, classes, and activities, ensuring there is something for everyone. Museum of Ice Cream in New York City brings to life the universal love of ice cream offering guests a blend of interactive art experiences, sensory exploration, and sweet treats. Many people associate ice cream with summer days of years past, and the museum’s installations allow participants to step into a nostalgic, imaginative, vibrant, and sensory-rich environment to escape from everyday life stressors. “We truly exist to unite and inspire through imagination and connection and we do that through playing like a kid again and being able to eat unlimited ice cream,” asserts Erin Levzow, chief marketing officer, Museum of Ice Cream. “Immersive activities provide a higher level of engagement than traditional forms of entertainment, with Museum of Ice Cream’s experiences being designed specifically to inspire human connection and energize the senses,” Levzow adds. “The museum’s 1905c pink decor, larger than life, whimsical renditions of otherwise boring everyday objects, like the MTA-inspired “Celestial Subway” (New York and Chicago)… or our iconic sprinkle pool is unlike anything you can enjoy anywhere else,” continues Levzow. “We also have the indulgence of the universal

love of ice cream – every ticket purchased comes with unlimited treats throughout the experience, making Museum of Ice Cream a paradise for foodies of all types.”

These varied immersive experiences, activities and settings provide groups with an opportunity to become fully engaged through escapes that can be used to inspire and entertain, create a sense of awe and wonder, or relax and rejuvenate.

CVBs & DMOs

Partners You Can Count On Need information about a city under consideration for hosting an upcoming meeting or convention? The local convention and visitors bureau (CVB) can help. Need help finding vendors, entertainment, caterers, or offsite venues for satellite events? Contact a CVB or destination marketing organization (DMO). Looking for group activities or places to go during downtime? Yep, you guessed it. These organizations are a great Go-To for getting in touch with the right people, places, and resources to meet a wide variety of needs. “There are many reasons to call on a CVB or DMO for assistance with planning,” asserts Jeff Vasser, executive director, Division of Travel & Tourism, State of New Jersey. 50 Novemberz December2023

New Jersey is a diverse state with seven distinct regions, including: the Skylands Region; Gateway Region; Central New Jersey Region; Delaware River Region; Shore Region; Greater Atlantic City Region; and Southern Shore Region. With all of these from which to choose, a CVB or DMO partner will be able to help planners weigh their options to see which would be the best fit. “Once the region is narrowed down, you’ll receive expert planning help to ensure your venue options satisfy your requirements,” says Vasser. “For example, Atlantic City has over 1.8-million-square feet of meeting space citywide, including 15 meeting and convention venues and 64 off-site event venues. By utilizing Visit Atlantic City’s event planner resources, organizations and businesses will be able to find the perfect venue, no matter the size and format of an event, meeting, or convention.”

Another example is the Greater Newark Convention and Visitors Bureau, located in the Gateway Region. Aside from proximity to Newark Airport and NYC, they offer planning expertise and resources, and customized support from start-to-finish, including guided site inspections, custom itinerary building, and arranging of all appointments, transportation, and meals. They also can provide “boots on the ground” to help with detailed execution. “By working with a CVB or DMO partner, planners gain access to local businesses and organizations to enhance a planner’s itinerary with options such as dining, sightseeing, and other attractions, which help to create a memorable event,” notes Vasser. “Whether you’re planning an incentive meeting or sales training, executive retreat or product launch, New Jersey’s DMO partners can accommodate your group’s

They can help with timing as it pertains to what is going on locally at the time of an event, too. There are many great reasons to include the local CVB in the event sourcing and planning process, says Emily Scheiderer, senior director of education, sales, and services, Destinations International. “The value that they bring is immense, but now more than ever we are seeing large shifts in the industry, from financial implications and booking patterns to attendee sentiments. I would really encourage event strategists to consider those current industry trends and make the destination organization a staple of their business events process.” Consider cost, too, and the ROI it produces, urges Scheiderer. The economic landscape, supply chain, and inflation all are subject to change. In the face of escalating expenses and budget consequences, collaborating with a destination organization stands as a unique 52 Novemberz December2023

“Attendee sentiments and booking patterns have shifted,” Scheiderer continues. “They now prioritize purpose when allocating their time and often make last-minute attendance decisions. The deep relationships that destination organizations have with the local community can support the event strategist in curating an experience and education that will appeal to the delegates of the future and provide them with the opportunity to exchange their time for the creation of a positive impact.” Some of the ways that destination organizations can offer support include: establishing connections with local causes that will resonate with the attendees; facilitating introductions to local thought leaders, experts, specialized equipment, or other unique intellectual assets within the destination; providing guidance on ecofriendly event enhancements to assist attendees in offsetting their carbon footprint; and assisting in developing tailored marketing strategies to motivate attendance and encourage earlier bookings. These days, safety has taken on a new meaning, and all event stakeholders perceive it differently, Scheiderer observes. “Considerations around financial risk mitigation for boards, and physical and mental health and safety for attendees range from issues that are simple to those that are complex. Organizations are displaying a heightened aversion to risks, and event planners are tasked with striking a delicate balance between business acumen and the emotional intelligence needed in event design and attendee communications.” Here, destination organizations can step in as invaluable partners. They can facilitate connections with local entities that actively contribute to risk mitigation and

crisis management plans, and they offer an essential layer of insight and connection to the local community. This ensures that internal business decision-makers and event stakeholders feel informed and in control. And when it comes to working with CVBs and DMOs, size doesn’t matter. “You do not have to be a citywide event, or even utilizing multiple hotel blocks, to qualify for free services from the destination organization,” say Scheiderer. “Many have team members who specialize in supporting self-contained meetings.”

When it comes to working with large chains or specific brands who offer their own national sales or global sales resources, remember that it is the destination organization and the NSO/GSO, not the destination organization or the NSO/GSO, cautions Scheiderer. “Both have immense value, different focuses, and different assets that can expand your resources. Don’t choose between the two.” Something else to remember about destination organizations - their success is directly tied to the success of both incoming events and those of the local community, making them the ultimate advocate. Even if an event planner knows the hotel package or has rich connections in the community, there is always going to be a value proposition in working with the CVB. The bureau or DMO will have a deeper understanding of other events that are layering in the city over the same dates. They will have a gauge on projected destination

renovations and developments, and they will have a finger on the pulse of destination elements that can impact the attendees’ experience.

“Viewing them as an extension of your meeting team and a true partner will only positively impact you. And, speaking of impact, they will have the best understanding of the economic and deeper impacts that your event is making in the destination and that intel can go a long way in supporting your internal and external conversations about the value of your event to your organization, industry, attendees, and host venues and communities,” adds Scheiderer. “We are your local destination experts. We have strong partnerships in our community and can connect planners not only with venues, but with local service providers to fulfill different event needs,” explains Leigh Velez, regional sales manager, Pocono Mountains Convention and Visitors Bureau. “There is no fee for working with us. We are happy to help, and our mission is to ensure that both the planner and attendee have memorable experiences in our destination.”

With 121,000 sq. in event space, 4 ballrooms, 30 meeting rooms, hotels, restaurants, and one Great Lake,

liage rally routes, as well as a public car show in downtown Stroudsburg, PA, helping to arrange street closures, local business participation, and media coverage. It was a great convention, and our community enjoyed having the group visit the Pocono Mountains,” recalls Velez. “We are a completely free service and can save planners time, money, and a little stress just by connecting with us,” Velez continues. “From arranging a site tour to providing tailored recommendations of things to do in the area, the CVB can provide extra resources and insider insight about the destination to help take your event to the next level.” Because of the bureau’s partnerships in the Pocono Mountains, the CVB often is the first to hear of new projects or services coming to the area that could be helpful to planners. The bureau provides an additional point of contact between the planner and the destination to ensure an efficient and exceptional event experience. “The CVB or DMO truly is the local expert beyond the convention center and is able to help recommend activities, lodging, restaurants, and so much more,” notes Kim Mueller, director of sales, Town of Ocean City, Maryland. “For example, here in Ocean City, Maryland, we can help planners curate the perfect itinerary spanning dining, entertainment, leisure, and meeting options customized to any kind of gathering. Further, the CVB or DMO most likely has great in-market relationships that can help with anything the planner may need. Oftentimes, we also can work with the planner to provide discounts and other savings, when applicable.” With a recent new booking, the Ocean City CVB was able to offer a group a prime spot in their shoulder season that allowed them to stay below budget while still giving many of their student attendees the chance to see Maryland’s Coast for the first time. “With shoulder season events like this, we also often are able to get our accommodation partners to build in a rebate to help offset some of their event costs,” says Mueller. In Ocean City, Maryland, the Roland W. Powell Convention Center – together with the CVB – works with the 56 Novemberz December2023

planner to understand what type of space is needed, what specific services are required, and the overall goals of their event to create the best experience possible. “CVB and DMO teams have deep personal knowledge of the accommodations, assets, and resources in their destinations, allowing them to make great suggestions and recommendations based on planners’ requirements and saving them many hours that would otherwise need to be spent researching,” observes Tina Coleman, communications manager, Southern Delaware Tourism. CVBs also have personal relationships with property representatives and other tourism partners and can provide introductions for planners and help facilitate the process. These organizations also are intimately familiar with local entertainment, attractions, activities, shopping, the culinary scene, and more, and can provide a multitude of suggestions for team building activities, as well as suggest ideas for how attendees may want to spend any free time they have in the destination. “Southern Delaware Tourism recently assisted a group seeking to organize a conference in Rehoboth Beach,” recalls Coleman. “We were able to suggest an appropriate property based on the group’s parameters, provide an introduction to the property’s sales director, and facilitate discussions about dates, availability, and rates for rooms and conference and breakout space. We assisted with suggestions, selection, and outreach to potential sponsors, as well as to potential speakers, for various sessions. We also promoted the event among our partners.” “DMOs are happy to brainstorm and work with event planners,” Coleman assures. “The knowledge, relationships, and experience the DMO teams bring to the table make them incredibly valuable, time-saving partners that can contribute significantly to the success of meetings and events held in their destinations… It is a great partnership that benefits both meeting and event planners and local DMOs looking to showcase their destinations.”

Interest in Sustainability Isn't All That Makes Valley Forge Green

In the winter of 1777, when Philadelphia was occupied by British redcoats, George Washington set up camp in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania. And while the area is far more accommodating than it was back in the day - with over 80 hotels and everything from boutiques to big brands dotting the landscape - the natural beauty of Valley Forge and surrounding Montgomery County has not changed that much over the years. Sustainability is more than a buzzword here, starting with Valley Forge National Historical Park. It encompasses 3,500 acres of meadows and woodlands, where Washington and his men encamped. Thanks in part to Leave No Trace, a program that promotes the protection of the nation’s cultural and natural resources, it remains as green as it ever was. But Valley Forge is just the start of the historic sites and gardens that dot the area, which include Fort Washington State Park, where the Pennsylvania militia was stationed, and Graeme Park, home to a manor and grounds where Elizabeth Graeme, a British loyalist’s wife, passed 58 Novemberz December2023

messages to the Continental army. Many area parks and biking locations also feature refillable water stations. Montgomery County is crisscrossed by 96 miles of biking and walking trails, which take you through the scenic countryside, quaint villages, and vibrant downtowns. Expanding those many trails and greenways is among the top priorities of Montco 2040, an areawide vision that received a national award from the American Planning Association. Perhaps the most ambitious of these plans incorporates the Schuylkill River Trail, named the “Best Urban Trail” by readers of USA Today, which is popular for biking, jogging, and walking. A total of 18 miles of the trail - a route that starts in Philadelphia and is slated to extend to the picturesque countryside of Reading, some 60 miles away - runs through Montgomery County. Even if you are not up for a long hike, there is plenty to enjoy along the route, as the trail passes through a variety of intriguing towns. (Another of

Montco 2040’s goals is to make intimate downtown areas even more appealing.) In fashionable Conshohocken, one of the fastest-growing areas in suburban Philadelphia, the Conshohocken Brewing Company beckons thirsty trail users with bike racks and outdoor seating. If a quirky museum is more your speed, the American Treasure Tour Museum is just a few steps off the trail in Oaks (just north of Valley Forge) and features over one-million pieces of pop culture memorabilia. Looking for a team building opportunity with a sustainability focus? The John James Audubon Center at Mill Grove offers volunteering opportunities that allow groups to give back. Located on a 175-acre estate surrounding the first American home of the famous artist and naturalist, the center welcomes assistance in areas from maintenance of the grounds to bird care. Green spaces are not the only places that are green around Valley Forge. An interest in sustainability is shared by many local businesses. Over 80 percent of Montgomery County hotels participate in green initiatives, such as Travel with Purpose by Hilton, a strategy that drives responsible travel and tourism globally. The Greater Philadelphia Expo Center has installed the largest solar rooftop array of any Pennsylvania convention venue, providing it with enough energy to power the 140-plus events that it hosts annually. Additionally, Valley Forge not only is convenient enough for many meeting attendees to drive, allowing them to avoid carbon-unfriendly flights (although it must be noted that Philadelphia International Airport is conveniently close), but the area has also invested in dozens of EV charging stations.

An interest in sustainability also drives many area restaurants. Among more than 1,800 options that Valley Forge and Montgomery County have to offer (not to mention all the breweries, wineries, and distilleries) is Founding Farmers, named one of the 10 most sustainable restaurants in America. Normandy Farm Hotel’s hip farmer’s daughter features a giant bar, a fireplace, and an expansive outdoor terrace, and is another terrific farm-to-table choice for dining. Looking for fun either before or after dining? The region boasts a vibrant arts scene and some of the best shopping around, including Simon’s spectacular and environmentally-conscious King of Prussia Mall, the largest on the East Coast. Meeting planners know that a memorable meeting is more than just a great meeting room, and Valley Forge’s planning consultants are as accommodating as the area itself. They may have ideas to help planners save a different kind of green. Connect with them to discover more than 300 varied venues for gatherings of any size and at every budget level - shiggins@valleyforge.org & kilroy@valleyforge.org. ®Copyright 2023 Aloysius Butler & Clark

“We’re excited to see upcoming projects, such as the Doubletree Philadelphia West’s full renovation and conversion to an Embassy Suites, and the Elmwood Park Zoo’s expansion to their 38-acre footprint,” Higgins exclaims.

Attendees can get a jump on their holiday shopping at the King of Prussia Mall or along unique Main Streets in towns such as Ambler. The King of Prussia Mall will be adding the major culinary destination and experience, Eataly, in 2025. The marketplace is known worldwide for its restaurants, cooking classes, and food and wine vendors.

THINGS TO DO Elmwood Park Zoo’s construction of its new Frank & Paige Engro Veterinary Hospital and Welcome Center is fully underway. "It’s Great to go Back to the Raw Bar..." Legal Sea Foods had it right with their October Oyster Fest last month and we want more...

FOOD & DRINK Valley Forge, King of Prussia, Blue Bell, and Conshohocken continue to be outstanding destinations for dining with so many restaurants – and still growing. Some of these include: Eddie V’s King of Prussia; Legal Sea Foods; The Capital Grille; Morton’s The Steakhouse; Savona Restaurant; Creed’s Seafood and Steaks; Sullivan’s Steakhouse; Fogo de Chao; Season’s 52; North Italia; Kooma Asian Fusion and Sushi Bar; Paladar Latin Kitchen; Founding Farmers; Davio’s Northern Italian Steakhouse; J. Alexander’s; Bahama Breeze; Maggiano’s Little Italy; and Gauchos Prime and Taku Japanese Steakhouse in King of Prussia. Heading toward Blue Bell, Plymouth Meeting, Horsham, Fort Washington, and North Wales are: the Blue Bell Inn; Harvest Seasonal Grill; farmer’s daughter at Normandy Farm; Redstone American Grill; Cantina Feliz; Arugula; Dettera; Bridget’s in Ambler; Daniel’s; Hook & Ladder Sky Bar; Blackfish; Southern Cross; Gypsy Saloon; Flanigan’s Boathouse; Coyote Crossing; Great American Pub; Jasper’s Backyard in Conshohocken; and the recently opened Lark in Bala Cynwyd.

Visiting on the last day of their promotional Oyster Fest, Becca, an impeccable server in Legal Sea Foods’ King of Prussia restaurant (just outside the King of Prussia Mall) - and someone who truly enjoys the variety of oysters (all from the New England area, as Legal Sea Foods is based in Boston) – proclaimed that guests kept pouring in over the course of this amazing promotion. Now, there are some who simply won’t try them, a lot who will dive right in, and the many of us who just love them with mignonette, a lite champagne, or cocktail sauce with a dollop of horse radish. Duxbury and Stonington oysters from Massachusetts and Connecticut were popular choices (and mine, as well) along with Oyster Rockefeller. The restaurant was doing so well that a few of the selections were selling out daily. It is a good idea to listen to Becca and other servers who enjoy oysters as they talk about brine, sweetness, salinity, or plumpness before choosing. King Crab claws, mussels, oysters, and of course - jumbo shrimp are some of the most popular upsell items for banquets and events. Exterior mall restaurants have become so popular that they really do stand alone (even if they are attached). Legal Sea Foods is a great example. I wonder if they do Crab Cake fests or Lobster Roll months? Maybe they already do - and their crab cakes are stellar! Next time you are headed to a seafood restaurant or steakhouse, ask the servers all about the oysters… East Coast, West Coast, Mid-Atlantic, North Atlantic - and you will start to become so much more knowledgeable if you were not already. Enthusiasts can detect correctly the many differences between oysters grown in different parts of North America. LegalSeaFoods.com Mid-Atlantic EvEnts Magazine

A COHNversation with Jim Jim Cohn, publisher of Mid-Atlantic Events Magazine, talks to people.

Anthony Lehman, Owner, Feast Your Eyes Catering WE TALKED A LITTLE ABOUT THIS BEFORE, ANTHONY, BUT WHAT IS YOUR PLAN TO MAKE FEAST YOUR EYES CATERING STAND OUT MOVING FORWARD? I like to say that Feast Your Eyes is an established company with a start-up mindset. We are not afraid to think outside of the box and challenge the traditional ways of catering and marketing ourselves. We know that selecting a caterer is an important investment for any event, and the key to standing out is making our product more approachable. Looking ahead to next year, our team is planning on hosting more tasting opportunities, not just for our potential clients, but also industry folks and venue partners. Building trust and a positive reputation of our service, presentation, and menu offerings comes at all levels. In addition to this, all our staff - from sales and culinary to our warehouse teams - also are encouraged to come up with new and innovative ideas to enhance our offerings and streamline how we do business. This allows for more time to provide excellent service every day, and to foster a more collaborative work environment.

WHAT UNIQUE TOUCHES HAVE YOU ADDED TO YOUR CATERED EVENTS REGARDING BOTH YOUR CUISINE AND YOUR PRESENTATION? All our foods are handmade from scratch, which gives us the ability to offer a range of menu options when working with clients. Our focus is always on promoting the “Farm to Table” concept, and that extends to many of our modernized food stations, like our signature Chaat Cart, Vegetable Carvery, or Vietnamese Crêpe stations. We always keep it natural and local to reduce food waste. We also are investing time to refresh and revamp our style in our food stations, buffets, and digital presence. More recently, we have partnered with several event designers to enhance our displays with fun florals and custom-built pieces for a memorable brand experience both in-person and online. WHICH DISHES CONTINUE TO BE “MUST HAVES” ON THE FEAST YOUR EYES MENU? WHAT ABOUT NEW OFFERINGS? While I doubt we will ever stop getting calls for Eggplant Artichoke Terrine or something from Miss Amelia’s BBQ, our repertoire grows quickly and new items fast become old favorites. We write menus specifically for each event and build new menus from these fresh ideas. We have extremely talented chefs from around the world, which gives us leverage in exploring more global cuisines, as well. We currently are testing items from Cuban and Polynesian food cultures to produce new and wonderful cocktail stations and other dishes. DURING EARLY MEETINGS WITH A PLANNER REGARDING THEIR EVENT, WHAT IS A KEY QUESTION THEY SHOULD BE ASKING? We know that between vendors, there are many moving parts to any event. And for event planners, a large part of a planning timeline can fall on their plate to navigate. By asking caterers for more details on the menu being served, this will allow for more insight on timing in our service and flexibility. We know that timelines always are changing, but understanding that some dishes or offerings require a certain level of detail in preparation will allow for seamless service from our end. We know that this is the industry of pivoting, but we never want to compromise on quality. WHAT DO YOU SEE CHANGING IN THE CATERING WORLD? WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE CHANGE? At Feast, we are challenging our teams to go above and beyond and think past the idea of traditional catering. We love the food scene in Philadelphia, and think its recognition around the country is growing. While we are not a traditional restaurant, our standard is to provide a similar high-quality portfolio of designed dishes. We encourage our clients to demand the same expectations when planning an event for 300 as they do for a dinner of 10. We do not know of a James Beard Award for caterers, but we encourage our culinary teams to strive for that goal - even if only for internal high-fives.

Michael DelBene President & CEO, Welcome America Inc. & Executive Producer, Philly Holiday Experience MICHAEL, I LOVED HEADING TO MARKET STREET FOR THE HOLIDAY RUSH AS A KID, WITH SO MANY GREAT STORES LIKE GIMBLES, WANAMAKER’S, AND LIT BROS., PARADES, FIRE TRUCKS, AND WINDOW DISPLAYS ALL STARTING AROUND THANKSGIVING WEEKEND. PHILADELPHIA WAS THE PLACE TO BE – AND SEE – AT THIS TIME OF YEAR. TELL ME ABOUT THE CREATION OF THE PHILLY HOLIDAY EXPERIENCE. The Philly Holiday Experience is designed to capture the energy, spirit, and magic of the holidays in Philadelphia. It is truly the most wonderful time of year in the city. Like you, Jim, I grew up relishing the experience of the holidays in Philadelphia, which, at that time, was often created by those major retailers. Over the years, I began to see and understand that this was just one piece, but there were so many special people and businesses that made the holidays come to life. Now, through my role as CEO of Welcome America, Inc., and as executive producer of the Philly Holiday Experience, I have had the unique opportunity to strategically design the festival to continually maximize opportunities and amplify the diverse talent, creativity, and offerings of individuals, as well as small minority- and womenowned businesses, allowing them to take advantage of the spotlight and the economic opportunities generated by the Philly Holiday Experience. Our goals are two-fold: harness the excitement and energy that surrounds the holidays, and drive economic value across the city during a time of elevated consumer spending, allowing businesses of all sizes to seize the opportunities provided by Philly Holiday Experience. 84 Novemberz December2023

DO YOU SEE A LOT OF INCREASED TOURISM FOR THE EXPERIENCE? HAVE YOU SEEN A LOT OF VISITORS OR LOCALS EXTENDING THEIR DAY TO EITHER GO SHOPPING, HEAD TO A MUSEUM, OR DINE OUT AFTER OR BEFORE THE FESTIVITIES? Participating in the Philly Holiday Experience is just one of the incredible things both residents and visitors can enjoy this holiday season. The Philly Holiday Experience brings the city to life with festive happenings, while amplifying the tried-and-true things that make Philadelphia so special year-round. So, whether attendees call the city home or are visiting from the suburbs, across the country, or around the world, they come to enjoy the experiences and festivities, but stay to shop, dine, visit cultural attractions, and much more. We designed it this way, and we count on it to serve as a catalyst to continually elevate our great city. THERE IS A LOT OF COORDINATION INVOLVED, FROM THE CITY TO CITY SERVICES, POLICE TO SECURITY, AS WELL AS SPONSORSHIP OPPORTUNITIES. HAVE THE CITY AND SPONSORS EMBRACED THE EVENT TO NOW WANT TO OFFER YOU MORE IDEAS OR SERVICES? It takes immense coordination with the City and its partners to ensure the Philly Holiday Experience is a robust, active, engaging, fun, celebratory and safe experience for all involved. We receive great interest from sponsors year after year. They want to be part of all that is happening during this wonderful time of year, and to gain visibility with the hundreds of thousands of festivalgoers who come out, and the millions of dollars that are spent. Through hand-in-glove relationships, we create valuable opportunities for sponsors through our work with the city, and we are able to work with the city to make this festival so grand because of our sponsors. DO YOU HAVE ITEMS ON YOUR WISH LIST TO HELP MAKE THIS EVENT EVEN BIGGER OR MORE CREATIVE? For me, it is less about a “wish list” and more about an ongoing commitment to continually grow the event year after year. Philly has been a destination for the holidays since the days of John Wanamaker, but our job has always been to make it about more than just shopping. We strive to create an active, engaging, inclusive and memorable season through free, family-friendly, safe events and entertainment. It is about consistently finding ways to scale, improve and amplify all that we do. In the same way that Wawa Welcome America has become the nation’s leading 4th of July festival, we are working to grow Philly Holiday Experience, which has already gained national recognition, helping to strengthen Philly’s positioning on the map as a leading destination for the holidays. I am very proud of the framework we have built to ensure we have all the pieces in place to host a dynamic, memorable, and festive experience. Mid-AtlanticEvENtsMagazine 85
