Come learn with us about Sourdough! This class will teach you about sourdough origin, the benefits of sourdough, terminology used when making sourdough, tips and tricks and recipes. The registration fee will include and active starter a small packet of rice flour for decorative loaf scoring, a blade for scoring, a plastic bowl cover and bowl/banneton liner and access to my sourdough “support” group to post progress, questions and additional recipes.

The first class introduces students to the immersive, 3D learning platform zSpace. Participants will learn to move, resize, and explore objects in augmented reality 3D. Students will discover Leopoly Maker sculpting tools on the zSpace 3D augmented reality platform. Participants will create a digital sculpture that can be brought to life as a3D printed object. The students can save their image on a flash drive.

PRIVATE PILOT TEST PREPARATION CLASS

This intense 4-day ground school will cover the topics needed to master the private pilot federal written examination. Instruction includes aviation theory, the weather, general aircraft knowledge including instruments, weight and balance, and performance, airport operations and runways, aviation regulations and other aviation related topics.

It is designed to provide healthcare practitioners with the knowledge and skills necessary to resuscitate newborns. In order to gain maximum benefit from this course, it is important for participants to review materials and complete the pretests in the student manual prior to attending the course.

The Trauma Nursing Core course is a 2-day course designed by the Emergency Nurses Association for RNs. It is designed to provide the learner with basic trauma knowledge & psychomotor skills. LPNs, Respiratory Care & Paramedics may attend for CEU’s, but will not receive a course completion card or take part in testing. Completion leads to a certification card that is valid for four years. It is required that you review your student manual and complete the 8 interactive online modules. Modules must be complete prior to the first day of class or you will not be allowed to proceed. In an effort to deter substance abuse and to make sure alcohol does not end up in the wrong hands, Community Connections and the North Platte Police Department have teamed up to educate those who sell and serve alcohol. Preregistration is not necessary.

FORKLIFT/SCISSOR LIFT/TELEHANDLER /SKID STEER TRAINING

Customized training upon request

Each year, thousands of injuries related to forklift and warehouse equipment accidents occur in the US. Unfortunately, most employee injuries and property damage can be attributed to lack of safe operating procedures, lack of safety-rule enforcement, and insufficient or inadequate training. This class will OSHA train and qualify students to legally operate a forklift, scissor lift, telehandler, and skid steer. A certificate of completion will be offered upon conclusion of the class.

SUNFLOWER OR GEOMETRIC BARN QUILT

Sunflower barn quilt comes with design drawn and is ready for you to mark colors and tape.

If you choose to do the Geometric option you can choose from a pattern board that has 48 design options. Options range from traditional and simple to complex. You will learn how to dissect a pattern and transfer it to the barn quilt blank.

You will need to bring yellow Delicate Frogtape (1.41 width is best-it can be purchased at a hardware store), hair dryer and a heavy-duty extension cord.

MOTORSCHOOL

ENTRY LEVEL DRIVER TRAINING (ELDT) FOR CDL CLASS A OR CLASS B

Instruction focuses on fundamental basics needed to become a professional driver. Topics range from basic vehicle operation to whistle blower protections. Labs are hands on training for the driver enabling them to conduct a proper pre-trip, en-route, and post trip (DVIR) inspections, proper hooking and unhooking procedures, sliding of tandems and fifth wheels. Behind-the-wheel training is just that. Driver trainees will learn how to maneuver a tractor-trailer around tight corners, make proper lane changes, and drive in traffic. They also will learn and become proficient in backing and docking.

At the end of this training, Central States Safety and Driver Training will administer the necessary CDL Skills tests for the driver trainee to get their CDL License. A major part of all instruction within this program deals with safety and professionalism of the driver.

DRIVER EDUCATION

The Driver Education is an essential first step to learning safe, lifelong driving skills. Driving is one of the first major responsibilities in a teen’s life. Driver Education teaches teens basic traffic laws, driver awareness, rules of the road, and basic motor vehicle operation. This course consists of 20 hours of classroom time and 5 hours of driving time as required by the Nebraska DMV. The class prepares drivers for licensure by awarding a Drive Test Waiver upon satisfactory completion. Minimum student age is 14. This class is intended for entry level drivers ages 14-17. Students must attend all sessions, have a learner’s permit before class begins, and meet all drive requirements in order to obtain the Drive Test Waiver. The Nebraska DMV reserves the right to test anyone at any time. DRIVING SESSIONS WILL BE SEPARATE FROM CLASS TIME - YOU ARE REQUIRED TO HAVE YOUR LEARNER’S PERMIT!

HAZARDOUS MATERIAL ENDORSEMENT DRIVER

This is an Entry Level Driver Training approved theory course. A theory course must be completed before taking the HAZMAT endorsement class. Instructor: Will Cleveland, Course fee: $159This two-day class prepares students to pass the Commercial Learner’s Permit exam required by the DOT. The CLP is required prior to enrolling in any CDL Class A/B training program. Taught in-person at the North Platte North Campus and sent Distance Learning to all MPCC area campuses: Ogallala, Broken Bow, Imperial, Valentine and McCook.

ONE-ON-ONE COMPUTER TRAINING

This learning opportunity is designed for the person who wants one-on-one attention, giving personalized attention on the computer topic that meets your specific need. Class takes place in one of our training rooms. You may use your own laptop, or one provided by the college, depending upon needs. Call 345-8122 to visit with someone about one-on-one computer training. Cost is determined by number of hours and type of training.

As it is a violation of federal law for anyone UNDER 18 years of age to operate a forklift or for anyone OVER 18 years of age who is not properly trained to do so, this class will OSHA train and qualify students to legally operate a forklift, scissor lift, telehandler, and skid steer. A certificate of completion will be offered upon conclusion of the class.

Learn the hands-on approach to emergency, focusing on the skills needed for a first responder. Class includes CPR/AED, first aid for choking (including pediatric emergency first response), and how to manage illness and injuries before help arrives. BASIC LIFE SUPPORT PROVIDER (CPR)

Basic Life Support Provider course is designed to teach CPR skills to aid victims of all ages. The use of AED, ventilation with barrier devices and relief of foreign body airway obstructions are taught. Using the basics of composition and color theory to teach how a variety of material could work together in making a beautiful work of art. Students will resume programming the driving base using the color/light, force, distance sensors and the hub gyroscope to complete challenging missions. Focus will be on the design process (discover, define, ideate, design, test) to develop solutions to the various missions.

A vinyasa style yoga class suitable for both new and experienced yogis! Breath is connected with movement in a feel-good class that flows from one pose to the next. Nebraska State Law requires anyone 11 years of age or older, born on or after January 1, 1977, to have successfully completed a Firearm Hunter Education course prior to hunting. There is no maximum age limit for students and this course is provided at no cost. Students successfully completing this course will have a better understanding of their outdoor obligations to the landowner, to the resources, to other hunters, and to themselves. BUFFALO COMMONS - STAINED GLASS TOUR

Museum of the High Plains, McCook | $30

Put a little color in your day with this inspiring getaway. Board the bus for a colorful and historical focus on some of the area’s most incredible stained-glass displays. The day-long tour includes stunning window art creations and related descriptive narratives and side stories, as well as entertainment during the ride and at the various stops. Group will meet at the Museum of the High Plains in McCook. The $30 registration fee will include lunch and a pie break. SELF DEFENSE (AGES 14 AND OLDER)

A basic self-defense training class that includes demonstration and active participation. Learn the pressure points and striking areas to use on an assailant. Being aware of your surroundings and helpful hints on ensuring one’s safety will also be discussed. Wear comfortable clothing.

QUILTING WITH MARY LOU: PAPER PIECING WORKSHOP
