The Trauma Nursing Core course is a 2-day course designed by the Emergency Nurses Association for RNs. It is designed to provide the learner with basic trauma knowledge & psychomotor skills. LPNs, Respiratory Care & Paramedics may attend for CEU’s, but will not receive a course completion card or take part in testing. Completion leads to a certification card that is valid for four years. It is required that you review your student manual and complete the 8 interactive online modules. Modules must be complete prior to the first day of class or you will not be allowed to proceed. You must bring your student manual to class.

The Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course is a 2-day course designed for RNs to provide core-level pediatric knowledge and psychomotor skills needed to care for pediatric patients in an emergency setting. LPNs & Respiratory Care may attend for CEUs, but will not receive a course completion card or take part in testing. Completion leads to a certification card that is valid for four years. It is required that you review your student manual and listen to the CD prior to coming to class. You MUST bring your student manual to class.

Feb 6, Mar 5 or Apr 2 | 4-5pm | Officer Rory Little NPPD WW Wood 202/204 In an effort to deter substance abuse and to make sure alcohol does not end up in the wrong hands, Community Connections and the North Platte Police Department have teamed up to educate those who sell and serve alcohol. Preregistration is not necessary.

FORKLIFT/SCISSOR LIFT/TELEHANDLER /SKID STEER TRAINING Customized training upon request

Each year, thousands of injuries related to forklift and warehouse equipment accidents occur in the US. Unfortunately, most employee injuries and property damage can be attributed to lack of safe operating procedures, lack of safety-rule enforcement, and insufficient or inadequate training. This class will OSHA train and qualify students to legally operate a forklift, scissor lift, telehandler, and skid steer. A certificate of completion will be offered upon conclusion of the class.

MOTORSCHOOL ENTRY LEVEL DRIVER TRAINING (ELDT) FOR CDL CLASS A OR CLASS B Feb 19-Mar 22 | Apr 1-May 3

Instruction focuses on fundamental basics needed to become a professional driver. Topics range from basic vehicle operation to whistle blower protections. Labs are hands on training for the driver enabling them to conduct a proper pre-trip, en-route, and post trip (DVIR) inspections, proper hooking and unhooking procedures, sliding of tandems and fifth wheels. Behind-the-wheel training is just that. Driver trainees will learn how to maneuver a tractor-trailer around tight corners, make proper lane changes, and drive in traffic. They also will learn and become proficient in backing and docking. At the end of this training, Central States Safety and Driver Training will administer the necessary CDL Skills tests for the driver trainee to get their CDL License. A major part of all instruction within this program deals with safety and professionalism of the driver. Must register by phone 308-535-3687

HAZARDOUS MATERIAL ENDORSEMENT DRIVER TRAINING

Feb 26-27 | Apr 8-9 8am-5 | McConald-Belton 134 | Will Cleveland | $300 This is an Entry Level Driver Training approved theory course. A theory course must be completed before taking the HAZMAT endorsement class. The course cover rule, regulations and safety practices when hauling hazardous materials. DRIVER EDUCATION

The Driver Education is an essential first step to learning safe, lifelong driving skills. Driving is one of the first major responsibilities in a teen’s life. Driver Education teaches teens basic traffic laws, driver awareness, rules of the road, and basic motor vehicle operation. This course consists of 20 hours of classroom time and 5 hours of driving time as required by the Nebraska DMV. The class prepares drivers for licensure by awarding a Drive Test Waiver upon satisfactory completion. Minimum student age is 14. This class is intended for entry level drivers ages 14-17. Students must attend all sessions, have a learner’s permit before class begins, and meet all drive requirements in order to obtain the Drive Test Waiver. The Nebraska DMV reserves the right to test anyone at any time. DRIVING SESSIONS WILL BE SEPARATE FROM CLASS TIME - YOU ARE REQUIRED TO HAVE YOUR LEARNER’S PERMIT! BASIC LIFE SUPPORT PROVIDER (CPR)

Learn the hands-on approach to emergency, focusing on the skills needed for a first responder. Class includes CPR/AED, first aid for choking (including pediatric emergency first response), and how to manage illness and injuries before help arrives. American Heart Association Certificate is provided upon successful completion of this course. Class will include pediatric instruction for childcare providers.

Basic Life Support Provider course is designed to teach CPR skills to aid victims of all ages. The use of AED, ventilation with barrier devices and relief of foreign body airway obstructions are taught. This course is relevant for those who provide care to patients in both the hospital and pre-hospital environments. Completion leads to a certification card that is valid for two years.

FARM SUCCESSION & ESTATE PLANNING

This program put on in conjunction with the University of Nebraska’s Center for Ag Profitability gives you the steps to get started. This three-hour course goes over the basics of what is estate and transition plan and how to begin. This program will also feature a local area expert who will discuss different types of estate plans and ways to protect assets.

This class provides research-informed practical strategies to protect your family relationships when passing on personal possessions. Few families escape making decisions about passing on personal possessions. Paring down and deciding if and how to transfer personal possessions is inevitable when a family member downsizes, declutters, moves, or dies. While it may seem simple, decisions about personal property can be challenging and lead to serious family conflicts.

Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR) training is designed to help participants understand how to talk about suicide, identify the signs of suicidal thoughts, and feel more comfortable engaging with someone who may be thinking about suicide. Preregistration is appreciated, but not required.

This course will teach you to apply new truths and techniques that will help you prepare for what’s ahead so you can retire successfully and keep your retirement plan on track.

Nebraska State Law requires anyone 11 years of age or older, born on or after January 1, 1977, to have successfully completed a Firearm Hunter Education course prior to hunting. There is no maximum age limit for students and this course is provided at no cost. Students successfully completing this course will have a better understanding of their outdoor obligations to the landowner, to the resources, to other hunters, and to themselves. STEM CLASS: LEGO SPIKE ROBOTICS (GRADES 4-8)

Students will learn the basics of building and programming autonomous robots. Using sensors to control motors and interact with objects students will be required to negotiate their driving base through a series of obstacles and missions.

EASTER EMPTY TOMB GARDEN (GRADES 2-4) Mar 16 | 2-3:30pm | McMillen Hall 201 Kandie McCauley | $15

Children will experience the true Easter story with this hands-on creation of a Resurrection Garden. They will create Easter’s empty tomb by collecting sticks and pebbles outside (weather permitting.) After that they will be creating the tomb and planting grass seed, which will hopefully be timed to sprout on Easter. Kids should dress to get messy and for the outdoor weather. Also, please bring an old kitchen towel to cover the completed project.

Tuesday-Wednesday-Thursday, Mach 26-27-28, 4-6 pm, McMillen Hall 201, Todd Weimer, $39 This class will build upon the introductory “SPIKE Robotics” class, focusing more heavily on the programming side, as students face new challenging builds. Teams will build and program autonomous robots, will test and refine their builds using the design process to develop a solution in order to complete missions.

DISSECTING LAB: SHARKS (GRADES 4+)

Mar 8 | 11am-Noon | Barnett Hall 110 | Rob Bogardus | $35 Enhance your knowledge and skills in science and come prepared to dissect a shark. Students will be using dissecting tools, so this class is best for grades 4th and above. Participation fee is $35 which includes the use of one dissection kit, additional student dissection fee is $12. Parent and family participation is encouraged. Class size is limited to 12 students. Feb 6 | 10am-1:30pm University of Nebraska Extension | $45 (Lunch included) We all know Estate and Transition Planning for the operation needs to be done, but how do we go about it? This program put on in conjunction with the University of Nebraska’s Center for Ag Profitability gives you the steps to get started. This three-hour course goes over the basics of what is estate and transition plan and how to begin. This program will also feature an attorney who will discuss different types of estate plans and ways to protect assets.

WET FELTING

March 5 | 5:30–8pm | Joan Swim | $50 Learn the basics of wet felting wool roving into a seascape wall hanging. We will be using orange Dawn soap. If allergic, bring your own soap for the felting process. Supplies will be provided. Ages 12 & up.
