This position is also responsible for all technical aspects of live events and performances at Buena Vista University, acting as the director for the coordination and safe operation of technology for all events. This position collaborates with event sponsors to identify technical requirements in the areas of sound, stagecraft and lighting; and then plans and executes these technical aspects of the events with the support of student work crews. Applicants must be a dynamic, self-motivated and enthusiastic individual with a passion for excellence. This role requires continuous interaction with students, faculty, and staff, and is key to preparing students to configure, operate, and troubleshoot media software and equipment. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required. The position also requires a bachelors in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience including a minimum of two years of experience in a media specialist role. This position also requires previous experience supporting live multimedia events & productions, including sound system design, setup, show execution and teardown. SMARTPHONE ADDICTION Parents should be concerned if their teenage children spend an inordinate amount of time texting, messaging, or otherwise using their smartphones. According to the Pew Research Center, 73 percent of teens have access to a smartphone, and 92 percent of them say that they go online every single day. This widespread use is concerning because recent research suggests that being constantly online is more than just a waste of time. Teens addicted to their cell phones have a chemical imbalance in their brains that predisposes them to anxiety and depression, as well as sleeplessness and impulsive behavior. Any signs of these symptoms should lead parents to have a serious talk with their teens and consult with a psychotherapist, if necessary. In todayâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s difficult world parents are continually challenged to be able to provide for, protect and nurture their children while managing the often chaotic demands placed on them as individuals, spouses and parents.
