With husbands and former members as their guests, the women hosted a potluck supper and reminisced about the club’s beginning and its history. the Gunder Road, aptly named their club Prosperous Ridge. The first meeting of the club was held at the home of Mrs. William Baltz. Along with Mrs. Baltz, other charter members were Mrs. Louie Bigler, Mrs Henry Bigler, Mrs. Victor Casten, Mrs. Ben Erickson, Mrs,. Anston Helgerson, Mrs Ed McNeil, Mrs. Cevert Meyer, Mrs. Sophie Meyer, Mrs. Joseph Olson, Mrs. Ella Renzmann, Mrs. Bernard Waters, Mrs. Leonard Waters, Mrs. Lawrence Welzel, Mrs. Robert Welzel. Mrs. Ed Nuehring and Mrs. Enock Mork joined the club at the September meeting. As the club was organized in the summer, the second meeting in July

of 1926 was a neighborhood picnic. Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Water were the hosts and nearly 100 neighbors and friends were guests. The group, like so many early organizations, was dedicated to service. One of the first projects, and one they carried out for many years, was to make quilts for the Children’s Home in Council Bluffs. Along with the quilts, they sent sheets, pillow cases, clothing, cookies and eggs, many times as many as 30 dozen. More recently they continue to help with functions at the Good Samaritan Center and help others in need as the need arises.

The first Prosperous Ridge song books were purchased in the fall of 1927. Their history reflects that the 18 song books costs $1.83. The same books were used until 1951. As women became more independent, it is noted in the 1935 minutes, that the women were to be called by their first names rather than that of their spouse and that roll call would be in alphabetical order. Although rules were quite lenient, the women did have to adhere to a few stringent guidelines. If anyone missed six regular meeting in succession without a proper excuse, they would be asked to resign and women were forbidden to serve more than three items for lunch. The first dues were $1 per year, but during the depression in 1932 dues were reduced to 50 cents. Current members pay annual dues of $5. Silver serving trays were purchased in 1938 and were passed from hostess to hostess for each meeting. The two and one half dozen trays cost $6.73. If a club member wanted to borrow them for an event rather than a club meeting, they were to be rented at a cost of one cent each. The social committee was chosen each year by the president and they were selected with special reference to their social qualities.
