IG Council hears concerns again on trailer court, discusses city wells ❚ by BETHANY JONES
The chambers of the Ida Grove City Council were once again a packed house on July 5 when residents brought concerns regarding the trailer park and the handling of municipal ines. My thoughts on this are if it’s on someone else’s side of town it doesn’t matter. Well, it’s on my side of town, and it does matter. Someone dropped the ball on this.”
Councilman Ryan Goodman added, “When we left the meeting two weeks ago, the way I understood it we were going to wait to hear from the attorney about what could happen going forward. Since then, we’ve gotten communication that the magistrate most likely would not uphold the ines because the work was done.” Following discussion, Goodman noted, “I think we note the items he did not have completed in time and we should issue ines for them because he did not meet (continued on page 3)

Holstein Council approves resignation, hears update on maintenance building The Holstein City Council approved councilman Perry Venteicher’s resignation during its meeting July 5. Venteicher’s resignation was effective June 18. Administrator Kay Hanson stated the council needed to decide how to ill Venteicher’s seat. There are two options—by appointment or hold a special election. After discussion, the council voted to ill the position by appointment. Tom Grafft from I&S Group gave an update on the city maintenance building. Grafft reported the contractor stated they would pour the footings for the building July 6. According to Grafft, the irst delay was in getting a preconstruction meeting set up. Then the contractor asked for a change order for trench footing that would save the city approximately
$4,100. The contractor did some soil testing and found wet soil and wanted a change order that would have added $30,000 to the project. I&S Group told the contractor the wet soil was addressed in the plans and they wouldn’t approve the change order. Grafft told the council he would be sending a irm letter to the contractor stating the city wants to see progress and demanding an updated schedule. The letter will also require a face-to-face meeting in Holstein. Grafft will have the city attorney review the letter before it’s sent. The contract states the project is to be substantially completed by July 29 with inal completion Aug. 8. The council approved pay request number one ($50,981) to L&L Builders, a $4,888 change order for the maintenance shop
driveway as required by the Department of Transportation (increasing concrete from seven to 10 inches and changing the grade from six to one to eight to one) and a $1,666 change order for a higher ef iciency furnace. Sundquist Engineer Joe Rueschenberg sent a memo stating the storm sewer intakes were inspected. Three intakes need some grouting completed and tracer wires and the DOT plans to install new wiring for the Highway 59/20 intersection lights.
